There's nothing in the game that would discourage that kind of behavior, there is no way to actually give consequences that can't be worked around as they are in the real world.

Just because YOU won't do it, doesn't mean 1-in-50 people aren't going to do it and I don't want to play with those people.

I don't know how much more clear I can be than that.

Even the idea of having a non-PvP server was dismissed with a handwave.

Currently in PFO if you don't live in the south, you'll see zero pvp you don't want to be apart of. and the pvp in the south is due to bad diplomacy. I think there's ONE character in the game who actually murderhobo's people. The Reputation systems actually do a very good job of making people think about killing that afk person..

As one of the more hardcore pvp'ers, I've walked by many people I found off in the woods just standing around. Sometimes because I felt like being nice, other times because I figured that the rep loss was not worth the possibility of them having loot.

but from what I can tell from your posts, your not interested in a sandbox MMO. but more of a Themepark, or purely Co-op game.

Who better to profile then Benevolent Dictator Phyllain Or the Stab Happy Tink, who has come up with many great idea changes (some used, some not), such as the buffing of Thornguards, and rootable ranged attacks way back in alpha:D

(I may be a little Biased those opinions though :D)

*All hail Phyllain! Benevolent Dictator of Xeilias! And Golgotha, the throne upon which he sits!*

His eyes swollen, and face redden from tears, the old lumberjack clutch at the small polished stone. A stone that was given to him, by a old drunk beggar, sitting outside of Beelzepub, the tavern in the Capital of the Empire, Golgotha.

He knew what to do with it, he's heard to the rumors and stories, of the magic stones that the Necromancers of Golgotha enchanted that allowed people to talk, and others listen.

But what he didn't understand, is how did a beggar come by one of these priceless stones. And not just any enchanted stone, one of THESE stones... Twirling it in his hands, he saw the small carving of a hand, on the smooth flat top of the stone.

His mind made up, the lumberjack pulled his knife from his belt, and slide it across his hand, drawing the crimson blood from his body. Gripping the stone in the bloodied hand, he recited a poem only the desperate would ever even think:

When the worgs of war are howling,
The fields empty of farmers plowing,
The children of widows are crying,
The warlords, sitting there smiling,
In will set the panic
When doomed is your land
Remember these words of magic,
and whisper "The Bloody Hand"

With knuckles gone white from squeezing the stone, the man heaved himself up. The tears flowing down his face once again, he walked out the door of his little shack, to a small freshly turned patch of dirt, the lumberjack crumbled to his knees. Staring at a small pile of rocks at the end of dirt, the man started to openly sob;
soon, soon my son. All will be right again, and that scum will be taken from this world!

After getting up from what seemed like hours of sobbing, the lumberjack turned to go back inside but was confronted by a cloaked figure.

no words spoken, the two just stared at each other. The man did not need the light of day to know who the figure was, gazing into the orange-red eyes of Tigari. There were few Tieflings in Golgotha, and even fewer who would be here, now.

Who? was all Tigari asked, in a voice just above a whisper.

He.. he..he killed my son, that bastard! He murdered him, then blamed it on that half-wit who lived next to him!

Tigari slightly raised his eyebrow, for he heard the stories floating around the slums of Auroral.

I know what really happened! It doesn't take much to realized! Just look at the size difference of their hands; between the halfwit and that bastard merchant Jonta Kal'gin.

Upon getting his answer, Tigari proposed the next single worded questoin.
Payment?

still locked in stares, the lumberjack new the only acceptable answer. For he was poor, and had not the money to offer.
I guess I'm lucky they sent you, for many have heard of the rumors and stories about you. I offer you the ultimate price, My soul

Of course they would send Tigari, for the moment the man spoke into the stone, the necromancers in The Bloody Hand knew of his situation.

Not many assassins will take payments other than coin. Yet for Tigari, there was a payment worth MUCH more then gold, but only those truely desperate would offer it.

I shall return after the deed is done as Tigari turned and walked back into the shadows.

Tigari though to himself; rolling a small knife with a dark green gem set into it's hilt
Once I fill this soul gem, I'll be one more closer of the many still needed to having enough, enough to draw the attention of that no good father of mine. THEN I shall put my skills to the test."

Goblin Squad Member

Hey Q, using the words "northern coalition " , when talking about agreements in the north is a bad idea, since THE Northern Coalition is the name for the NAP with EoX, Aragon and Freevale.

Goblin Squad Member

Black Moria, If you can PM me the names. We can't deal with problems if we don't actually know the facts. Golgothans should know not to start pvp around Marchmont. IF the names cannot be provided, I have to assume it did not happen OR you cannot actually claim they were "established" Golgothans. Thank You

Goblin Squad Member

Yay!! Tink called me his friend!!

But yes, most of the fun is hanging with your friends. Even grinding crappy escalations have it's fun moments, specially hearing mages swear at certain melee people jumping into the fray just as the AoE's are released and mages lose rep :D. Or mindlessly gathering and finding that other line gatherer/mobile node.

Goblin Squad Member

Tig = Tigari

For those who don't speak with me on TS :D

Goblin Squad Member

I don't attack my friends ( or even loot their corpses ) :D

Goblin Squad Member

I'm his friend that's what. He asked a question and was given an inappropriate answer. All I'm looking for is an answer from the people that matter. It's apperant that they won't give him one and keep focusing on the fact I won't let it drop.

Goblin Squad Member

Erian, Thod asked a simple question. He was then given an answer. I saw possible flaws in said answer, so as a friend spoke up.

Goblin Squad Member

If that was the case then I wouldn't be here and someone better at this foruming would be feeding Thod things to say.

Thod is MY friend and I see possible holes in things being said in this thread, so I'm speaking up for him..

And Avari, again your just reiterating my point. A claim was made against a member of Phaeros, and then a recommendation of action (an action of itself) was brought to the EBA level. No actions were desided. So by KP and BH saying they will not engage hostile actions against EL if they get their stuff from Hammferfall, does not mean Phaeros won't.

So going back to Thods question, can he expect hostilities if he attempts to retrieve his stuff? Or is Phaeros going to continue to skirt the question?

Goblin Squad Member

Actually you guys made this an EBA matter by bringing the option of revoking EL's privilege to EBA TERRITORY. Thod just made a post calling out Decius, then EBA responded. Not one entity my butt. And nice try trying to change subjects, that means I'm hitting the right spot

Goblin Squad Member

That's exactly my point Avari. I'm on my phone so not able to quote, but if this is being handle on a settlement level, both Brighthaven and Keepers Pass have chimmed in saying they are not going to be hostile (yet) to Thod (per his question if his members are no longer allowed in EBA territory, and if he's able to get his stuff from Hammerfall), BUT Phaeros has not, meaning they could treat Thod and EL with Hostilities until stated otherwise

Goblin Squad Member

Because they're able to change their minds. They don't HAVE to follow EBA policy. In fact the only reason something IS EBA policy is because at the time all settlements agreed to it, the second one settlement no longer agrees with a policy, it's no longer an "EBA Policy", making the term almost useless.
After these events Phaeros could have changed there minds and now start aggression towards Thod and EL. Until we hear from a Phaeros rep, I wouldn't take the possibility off the table.

Goblin Squad Member

Going to step in and use this example as I see a possible loophole that Thod may not.

So, according to your policies each settlement has to individually agree to this, and I've only seen Keepers Pass and Brighthaven agree to this. Does Phaeros, the actual settlement of the accused agree, and will they also not attack Thod or his people?

Sorry, there is nothing about being Free and Conscientious that precludes the existence of an elaborately worded document, nor vice versa. I don't understand the point being made.

One issue with not having an elaborately worded document is that there can be no expectation of understanding by anyone else.

It's Just Nihimon doing what he does. He's trying to be witty and take a stab at someone.

In this case I'm assuming its Pax and our use of carefully worded documents/Policies.

I remember at one point many people telling me and my group that Perception is Everything. To many the EBA is one Entity. They ACT like one Entity, they LOOK like one entity, they must be one entity.

If they want to have each settlement deal on their own, fine, it's their group. But don't make the mistake, they are one group.

Remember when they told everyone that they didn't have an alliance? that they were just talking about where to settle together? It's the same here.

From my view, one BIG reason for doing it like this is it leaves MANY loopholes open for them. Anytime one settlement tires of a contract, just have another EBA settlement find a way to become hostile with them, and boom, they can null the contract. And if their smart, they will have this little cancellation clause in their contracts about hostility with other EBA settlements

Goblin Squad Member

So, a deal cannot be made with 'The EBA', but has to be made with each settlement?

and

If a deal is made with one settlement, and conflicts starts up with another settlement, can we expect the first settlement to break the agreement?

Are you making a claim of territory and describing prohibited behavior? You might have a point under Courts Are For Kings, if you had made a suitable public claim about your territory.

If you want to claim a looting policy in your area, feel free to do so. I suggest also declaring a travel policy, harvesting policy, and escalation policy at the same time.

But you didn't. You just decided to act as though you had set a policy, without even explaining what the policy you didn't set in advance was.

So let's hear it: what territory does EL claim that it's laws apply within, what are those laws, and what is the punishment for violating them?

You are misunderstanding me Vrel. I mean withing the settlement itself, not the lands surrounding. And I did not mean any of the times I myself was attacked, as I perfectly understand why I was attacked and would expect nothing less. Nihimon himself already addressed the issue I pointed out by saying he was just defending himself and was not the one who attacked first within Keepers Pass.

The main reason I personally (not speaking for any settlement or group) is I'm interested and like what he's doing. I want to see it take off and how he builds it's. For me that's enought reason to assist him when he needs a little help.

Sorry, Gol Tigari, but unless you are a alias of Gol Tink (and it don't seem so), your build has little to do with Gol Tink position.

His position is that there is little difference between his character and that of a character build for PvE combat. Not between yours and that of a PvE combatant.

From what you say your build is similar to that of my PvE combatant, but I have a good crunch of XP into crafting skills (to be able to make my arrows when we will stat using ammunitions and to get the dexterity high enough). As I tend to play alone for time zone problem I have privileged defense, making a heavy armor switch hitter. But, like in EVE, that work well when fighting NPC alone, not for PvP. When the PvP players is set to stack conditions on you, having a good armor don't help. You need to be able to kill or incapacitate him rapidly.
A PvErs will try to find what combos work better on NPC and stick to them, a PvPers will try to find what combo work better against PC.
Even at this early stage they are different builds.

Pretty sure he was comparing his build (as a pvp'er) to that of a PVE'er. I am doing the same. PVE'er builds can be just as effective in PVP.

And my "PVP" build was done to Farm Mordant Spire mobs (PVE). As that was what we were doing alot of at the time of my early xp days.

If people are not aware, Gol = Golgotha. Its how some of the original (and i think a couple of the newer) people show they represent Golgotha.

I doubt that your build is so similar to that of a PvE combatant.

A PvE combatant would have spent a good number of XP in knowledge skills to get more loot. How many you have spent there?
AFAIK a good number of conditions don't work on NPCs while they work on PCs. I am fairly sure that your actions bars are different from those of a PvE combatant and more efficients at killing PCs.

Actually I bet my build is pretty similar to a PVE build. I have rank 3 in most of my Knowledge skills, expect arcane, that is 2, and i have 6 Geography, and 7 Local. PLUS I have Forester 7, miner 3, Dowser3. Everything else goes to combat (But I'm no where near Min/max) as I have dipped into odd things to experiment with some things.

EDIT:I also have 35k Xp to boot, from not being able to enter a town to train.

Is it really a war though?

My impression was that it is a cold war at most. Or just rivalry. And that the driver for it is the need to have some pvp in the game more than anything else.

something something about Golgatha playing the villains the game needs.

maybe I'm naive, but what I've seen so far is a bunch of players wanting the game to succeed and able to cooperate just fine in the background while fighting and looting each other in the foreground.

I'm hoping this is the case. A war would be long, and drawn out, not fun IMO. a "fued between settlements" (not to be confused with the future Fued mechanic between Companies) would be fine, and fun. A short term thing. But I keep seeing the word "War", and I can go and neglect my duties in PFO's First War.

I don't talk with EBA people (except rarely Cheatle), so IDK what they're thinking, I just read whats posted. A lot can be lost through just reading something. Tone, sarcasm, emotions in general are all lost (mostly, some well written things can convey some emotions). To add, I'm very competitive, so If I see a challenge issued (call of War), I accept, and do what I can to win. The downside, is I could be taking this word with more meaning then intended. That's why I'm tryn to clarify.

Goblin Squad Member

LOL, tryn to make me look like a crazy person... The people on Golgotha TS would be proud of you.

Goblin Squad Member

That's what I'm trying to find out.

Goblin Squad Member

Is it really a war though? Or is it just giving us what we've been asking for? I mean, if its an actual call of War, I can go back to doing what my job in warfare is, Spec ops/black ops style missions, liking hindering your supply. This mean hunting gatherers and people comming in to trade.

Now, if its just some friendly pvp, I can continue to just enjoy the little WoT skirmishes we've been having, something I'd rather do, as I sorely miss being able to enter Beautiful Golgotha. But, I will do as the Empire needs of me.

Goblin Squad Member

TEO Alexander Damocles wrote:

It's very simple, actually.

If you set up a trade agreement, they will honor it to the letter.

If you pay tribute, they will leave you alone.

They follow their own code and will not break it.

Those are the actions of a lawful state. If you don't have an agreement with them, then there is no law preventing them from doing what they want, hence lawful Evil. "What's yours is mine, unless we have an agreement that says otherwise."

(Golgothans are free to correct my statement)

I would say this is fairly accurate. Our "banditing" is more of there's not much other pvp in the game. WOT wasn't a reason to PvP, with the changes, we'll see if that changes.

We've also been very open with diplomats, anyone who wanted to start up diplomatic talks with the Empire of Xeilias can go Here

Goblin Squad Member

From what I saw, A LOT of people did not like the first changes to the towers, because it would put the smaller guys at a larger disadvantage. The small guys rose up and spoke their minds, and in turn GW came up with the current War of Towers that we see.

Oh, no. I had fun. Doing Hit and runs can be more fun then even pvp. The rush you get when you do get a kill against extreme odds is one of the best fillings (For me).

But that only last as long as the strat you are using does. Once the larger group catches on, then its time to leave.

Haikido, you won't hear that. Why? Because the PvP'ers that so often claim they want a greater PvP challenge really don't want that. They weigh risk vs. reward in their engagements. They look for low risk and high reward. Anything south of that and they probably won't engage.

This is a blatent lie. There has been MANY times we through our faces at your zerg. And one of the few times we actually outnumbered your zerg, we lowered our numbers to make it even. we're willing to gake on a challenge, and we've gone up against people 5(us)vs8(them, and not gathereres) and won. We won't continouly throw ourselves at your when its 2:1. that's not a challenge, that stupidity or extreame boredom.

When we look at a fight, our first question is "do we have a chance at winning?" if yes, most of us are already running in, and can't to do any more questions. I'm not down there being a bandit to take your stuff, that's just the bonus.

IN MY OWN OPINION, if they're willing to leave over this, they're probably not capable of actually running a settlement. Their best choice would be to join another settlement. I already think to many settlements where put on the map. I think 15-20(or even 18. 3 for original landrush, and 15 for second) would have been much better then 33.

I don't like seeing people go, but maybe this is not their game. Down the road, we will be losing settlements, years and years of hard work. Sure, if I ever lose Golgotha, I'd be terribly sad, but I'm at least AWARE it can happen.

Goblin Squad Member

I think you misunderstand, we are not tryn to "grind their settlement into the dirt". They are merely a juicy target near where we were hunting. We are not directly targeting BWG.

EDIT: I think what was ment by we wont stop is; We wont stop doing pvp in the most active area of the map, and we wont stop our normal rule of if not in our group target it.

That's not true, now your misinforming people. I have not killed a single person outside of a pvp hex, that has not attacked me first.
