Yes, but looking to meet people who I can try and recruit and play F2F per all the suggestions. Can't do that if they are 1000 miles a way

Looking at the Paizo Organized Play, the only ones in Colorado are 2.3 hours a way, and 1.5 hours away. To far to go

No playing a 5e game. Look at most Roll 20's or Start playing, and you will find DM's charging players to game. It's a business. Figure the money out. DM runs 1 game a day or even 4 games a week. They have 4 - 6players each paying $20 a game. AT 6 players, that is $120 a game they make for 4 hours of DMing. Times 4, $480 a week

It's a racket and prevents me from doing more, in fact, I debate on even that. But to play, I do what I can. And sadly, my husband does not get to play now, as his schedule prevents it and one reason I am looking for players who can do a F2F

I play in a 5E online game, I find it very lacking, not to mention paying $20 a game, and I am not so invested in the game. If it is Online, I won't be DMing. Playing? I would do, if the game captures my interest, and I don't have to keep paying to play, and it is in my scheduled free time.

So I have been the DM/GM since I started playing in 1979. I run games. I love to play as well, but I always run games and am willing to run games. But after a while, I do need a little break and need to play a little.

Sadly, the Game Stores in my area are pretty worthless. The one in town closed up (Found a few players there) Two in the city north of me, one will not post fliers, the 2nd runs a meet up that is, well, pretty worthless, and cannot do fliers, and may be closing (Owner not a good business person) and the town 30 minutes east put up a flier, but no reply and fliers he had, when I called those people, I found the fliers to be old and they no longer were in the area or the number was no good.

I understand Pandemic, but this started long before the pandemic (finding players). In my area, seems everyone wants to play 5E and will not give PF1 or even 2 a chance.

In the past, we offered to sit down with anyone, outside of the game at a safe spot to talk.

I know all to well about transphobia and racism, and I am very welcome and open to anyone (as long as they are not criminal) in my groups. One guy we recently lost we found out had a child exploitation record. And the last guy to leave LOVED to talk politics and argue. We asked him to stop and when he said No, and bailed.

I've never been a fan of PFS (not many in my area now days), used to be a lot. The one game store locally has kind of killed that. The other runs only D&D, and the one in the town I lived in closed. The one that runs D&D won't even let us put up fliers.

Very frustrating as we have been trying to find people for a long time, and just not having luck and the group went from 12 to 8, to 6, to 4, to 3, to 2.

Just wondering, why is it SO hard to find players to play face to face with?

I have been looking on Meet-ups, here, Discord, and fliers in game stores (What game stores I have in my area and ones that will let me post fliers.

If I want to play online, no issue, but for the past 3 years I have looked and looked and cannot find people who want to play face to face (When their is no major outbreak of pandemic)

Anyone got ideas, sites that work to find players?

I am in Colorado and SO frustrated!

BTW, prefer PF1 vs PF2 but will play PF2

Been playing D&D since 1st Ed and the original Errol Otis box cover (79). Played 2nd, 3, 3.5. I walked into a game store, saw Pathfinder. 4th Edition was coming out and my group got into a discussion on if we wanted to stay 3.5, or move to PF. no way we wanted anything to do with 4. So 2 of us bought books, looked it over, and jumped. Not looked back. PF 1e all the way.

%e is OK, not played 2EPF. Still play 1PF

My HUGE issue at the moment with HLO is this

When I bought HLC, I got two licences. That meant I had a licence, my husband had a licence. I bought two more licences for our laptops when we game (Desktop to create, laptop for travel and game)

From everything I have read, HLO is for 1 user. Yes, I can use it on any system I log into. But for me to get use for my husband, I now have to guy 2 copies.

For cost, it is not as good and I hate having to always be on line

I had Realmworks, but it was not worth keeping it up with paying a fee. I do more on my personal site for free than I can with Realmworks, which promised custom calendars, but never happened.

Sadly, My group is dying... FAST. No one want so go to PF2 in the group, they don't want to go to 5e, they want to stay on PF1, and to top it off, no one outside of my dying group wants to play PF1 or PF2

While I prefer PF1, I still have 2 campaigns being run, and was in the middle of 1 I was playing on. Cannot convert the current play on any of them.

Might aw well just give up and hide in a hole or go play 5e at a LGS (Which I hate going to as none of them are good in my local area)

Sigh... It's been a fun 10 years

My view is this... It does not reflect others view, it is how I feel having played every version of D&D starting in 1979.

There are some good, there are some bad. What I like
Champion instead of Paladin. I like the fact that you can now be the "knight" and not have to be lawful good.

I like 3 actions (This will prevent those monks (I hated monkss from almost every version existing) from hitting 6X in a round and doing mass damage. They may still do mass damage, but they are not doing stunning fist all the time and hitting 6X

I like Cleric healing 1 action if you touch, 2 actions if you heal within 30 feet, and 3 actions to do a 30 to all

The break down of exploration, downtime (and I am drawing a blank on the third) Exploration is when your party is out doing just that, adventuring.

Then you have the downtime, when you are in a town, doing side work, healing.

Somethings I don't like
I miss the charts on character creation. It is all in text hidden. No more, your a blank, take +2 ere and here and -2 here. It seems to be more hunt to find

HP are all static. Your a Dwarf you get 10 HP, Your a fighter, you get 10 more. You raise to level 2, you get 10 more. 3rd level, here have 10 more. No more randomness, not everyone is the same

In the past you had fast, medium, and slow progression. Now you have 1000XP and you just went from level 3 to 4. Anther 1000 xp you are now 5.

I also do not like that by X levels you need to have X permanant magic items (This is not potions or things that you use up) If you run light magic worlds, that is not good. And players may complain saying... well the rules say this and that. Yes, you as a DM can control this, but it just adds more for the DM to manage in rules.

PF2 seems like it is designed for Paizo's world and it's not for outside of that world. It may not be that way, just seems this way to me.

I'm not sure how many of my ever shrinking group is going to want to dish out another $60 for this flimsy book, after spending years on 1st ed (Only needed 3 books but most had PH, DMG, MM, FF, UC, D&D), Then into 2nd ed with all their books, then 3.0, then 3.5 then PF1, (Most of use avoided 4, but some of us got PH, DMG, and MM), then into 5E (PH, DMG, and MM once again avoiding most of the other crap)

It gets old having to rebuy into a game and to shelve the others because no one wants to play it (Part of why my group is shrinking, they want to play ONLY 5E, not anything PF)

So, what it is worth, buy it ONLY if that is what it means to play. But if not, avoid it.

FINALLY Got my book, scanned through the rules. There are a few things I like, but many things I do not like.

I could find nothing about healing and curing wounds even by looking in index. Not one mention as Heal or Cure. No spells of heal or cure. Yes, I may be missing something.

Then Ranger Crossbow? Really? Why not a regular bow, or a composite bow? That seems odd.

Characters seem to "Cookie Cutter" Never was a fan of point buy.

I have 2 games I am running. Both are PF not PF2. They are both in depth games. To change to PF2 would be impossible. Unlike when we were 3.5 and moved to PF, it was pretty simple to convert with some changes

I can understand Paizo wanting to release a "New" Version, it's how they make money. Kind of like WotC with Magic and then 3.0 to 3.5 to 4. to 5.

As a player since 1979, Even TSR did a 1st to 2nd, but seems drastic changes like PF to PF2 are not the route I want to take just like 3.5 to 4e was.

Just overnight it to me keep your $15 bucks, nothing I want on the site. Besides $15 bucks doe snot about to much. I am not a fan of PDF's I cannot stand reading on a PC or a tablet. I like the old fashion book method for everything

Well, this product has convinced me of 1 thing... To cancel all of my ongoing subscriptions from Paizo. It seems that there is really nothing new being added. OK so you get a bunch of new Prestige classes. These are very Golarian Specific. With work I could make them my world, but they are not needed.

I know there are some that will enjoy this bok, there are some that just want the book because... I want books that I can use, and this one is not one.

Sovereign Court

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Don't hate me... To me this is the WORST book out so far. I got mine and find this book great if you are a new player, or you want to Min/Max your character so bad it is not funny.

I am seeing more and more of Pathfinder becoming a Min/Maxer system. I see it in PFS, I see it in regular play. This book offers nothing to a player of more than 5 year.

If your new to Pen and Pager RPG, then this book might be for you, that is if you want to make a character that is so bad arse they can kill a dragon at 5th level. If you want to play a good realiastic flawed character that is far more fun to RP... then avoid this book.

But do not take advice from a gamer of 30+ years, unless you want good advice

67. Well you see it's a long story. My party and I had this ogre killing agenda/Policy. It didn't matter what the ogres did, if they were good or bad, we killed them all the same no matter what. Well long story short in 1 fight I got smashed by a bunch of ogres and my friends were more than happy to have be reincarnated. And well... guess what? As fate or maybe karma would have it, I came back as an Ogre and all of them wanted to kill me even though I was on their side.

I am totally surprised no one said Mount and Blade.

This is an FANTASTIC set of games historically based and very fun to play. To date there have been 3 installments that I know of and M&B II in the works.

It is very inexpensive.

I'd say try it because to date this is one of the best hands down Historical based games

Mount and BladeTale Worlds

EDIT: Correction... Four. Mount and Blade Napoleon Wars which is Multi Player and looks fun

Oh I did. I played a Cleric named Brothur (Brother) Portillies. He spoke in a very heavy Irish accent. He could best be described as a "Friar Tuck" type. He loved to eat and drink and cook and talk about his goddess the Earth Mother who giveth and taketh away. She giveth this day our daily bread and it is our job to till her ground and take care of her plants to feed the poor starved children and less fortunate.

Yes he was very religious, cared not for violence until pushed and loved to talk and try to convert others to his goddess path or to at least see her wisdom and ways

So if you don't like BBT does that mean you do not like The Gamers or Dorkness rising? It really makes fun of gamers and points them in a stereotypical way.

Personally I love The Gamers and Dorkness rising,. Why? Because I've meet players just like them, just like I have meet people like in BBT

I have to say last nights The love Potion was epic. Simon doing the tree with Nick Cages voices (Near spot on) Then the old man as Al Pacino (Funny) But the best... Him doing a dragon in Christopher Walkens voice (I had to listen to it 3X just because it was SO good and SO funny hearing a dragon as CW)

It was an awesome episode, and fun to see a DM use voice characters. though DD was never played like they played it, even 4th ed which I never played.

All of ours where un-written until the past session a few weeks ago. Do to frustration I put things into "LAW" so to speak. We game at my house and the group has been for 6+ years more off than on up to about 5 years ago when we changed many members.

There are 25 rules I set down some are not rules but suggestions.

- Reply to emails promptly. If you don't and it's consistent you don't you will not be around

- Drink in moderation (2 beers 1 wine/mead, 1 shot hard in 8 hour time)

- Do not interrupt the GM

- Keep none game talk to a minimum

- Create your own PC and update your own PC

- Hygiene is a must, if you smell like an orc or a troll you will not be allow to play in this group

- Pick up after yourself

- Don't wear dirty/muddy shoes into the house

- Chip in for the meal I cook and once in a while be willing to buy the main item which costs the most to make the meal

- Offer to help prepare the meal. I miss out when I am cooking it for the horde

- No non-game activities allowed at the table (Sewing, needlepoint, texting, app deving, etc)

- Don't be the center of the game always trying to be the star and in control

- Role play as best you can

- No violence (never had this) you will be expelled from the group

- No nagging (I can be bad about this because when I ask for something and someone does not give it, I hound them for it. Usually something out of game like character sheets, background)

- Don't be an annoying character all the time.

- Be there for you, not your Partner/Boyfriend/Girlfriend/spouse

- Let us know ASAP if you will not be there, especially if you are the GM

- Power gaming is frowned upon

- Do not always argue as PC or non-PC (partner rule thing)

Guess that is it.

No. As the saying goes: exceptions confirm rules.

Then you cannot say that geeks laugh at the jocks and the jocks laugh at the geeks that is a stereotype and then you are just as guilty of what you say the show does.

It is really as simple as this. There are many who LOVE this show and think it is funny. There are many who do NOT like the show and think it is stupid. it has nothing to do really if you are geek or jock, it has much to do if you think the situations are funny. Maybe because you have found yourself in that situation or knew someone in that situation. Then again you might be offended because you have been in that situation and felt 2" tall and people laughed at you and maybe that hurt.

If you've watched a season and still think it is dumb... so be it. I can say how much I HATE Game of Thrones. I love fantasy, but I cannot stand the show. I cannot stand it after seeing episode 1 twice and many of the others once. I gave that show a 2nd chance. But I do not enjoy it and won't watch it again. I can say I love walking dead. Does it make since? NO. Do people do stupid bone headed mistakes that many would not make in real life? YES. Just something about the sow and love it. just like I love BBT. it has something many of us think work. If it did not work? I would not be on the network.

So with that BAZINGA!

Fabius Maximus wrote:

@AD: You describe what the fundamental problem is about the show: it serves its characters up for ridicule. But the crowd of geeks and nerds doesn't laugh about the geeks and nerds in the show. They laugh about the dumb people like penny and the boyfriends you describe.

But the "boneheads" who are more like Penny laugh about the geeks. The show is divisive at its core. And that is not a good thing.

I'm a Geek (not a nerd as it was once said to me what is the difference between a geek and a nerd. A nerd Has Intelligence, no style, a Dweeb has neither and a Geek has both intelligence and style) I laugh at everything Geek and nerd.

Having played sports though High School yet I was a geek then because I played D&D (1979) I was also considered a Freak because I listened to heavy metal, played in metal bands, BUT I was also so called a "Roper" (Cowboy) because I had friends that where cowboys, I hung out with them, I did rodeo, FFA Future Farmers of America) Grew up on the horse racing track (Dad still trains and races quarter horses), and being a "Jock" because I did sports.

I also laugh at the Jock stereo type because I have known many of those types in my life. (Hi my name's Chris Brockel, I play Football, know what position? Defense... ~laughs~ yes true story) And he was not the only one.

I laugh at the people like Penny, because I have known types like her too. Girls who think they are so hot they treat guys like boy toys, yet get treated like scum by the boy toys they treat like poo. And I've known Leonard types, Sheldon types, Howard types and yes even Raj types.

I laugh at everyone in the show because in some small way I am laughing at my own life, my own experiences and the experiences of others I have known.

So I blow that theory out of the water.

Different strokes for different folks. I love BBT. I used to love HIMYM and now I don't like it so much. I cannot stand cop, Dr, Lawyer shows as to me they are not real either and far more fake than BBT, but that is TV

My BF loves BBT as well. He actually knows someone just like Sheldon... yes people like that do exist and this person has a Genius IQ

If you find offence in BBT, so be it, don't watch it as I am sure you will not. I myself would wonder why people do not like it. For me I love the goofiness of it all and poking fun at people. Being a techno geek (I work in IS, I play PC and RPG games, I was always shy and could not talk to the opposite gender). I find humor in it all. Just like as a musician I can find humor in musician jokes, or tech jokes. Yes some can be offensive or hurtful, but the ability to laugh at ones self is a good thing.

So those who do not like it. Details why?

Why do I hate Cop, Dr, Lawyer shows. Every week in every cop show 2+ people get killed in horrible ways. If this happened then we would be extinct. They are not realistic. Dr Shows To many again. I work in he health care industry and if hospitals where that exciting... WOW it would be so stressful no one would want to work in it. It is worse than a soap opera at times. Lawyer shows. See the cops shows... same thing. Most people hate lawyers, so why glorify them. Even many cops don't like them. And if you make a show about those 3... why not about an Accountant. OR a PC tech. STAND BACK... she is going to blow up. We have 15 seconds to operate or...

OH and trust me... when a semi or very attractive female walks into most Comic Book/Game stores... guys do stop and look mouths agape. So they have that right in BBT. It's happened to me.

I did not enjoy it at all.
