Pathfinder Playtest Preorder Update

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

When Paizo was planning this year's Pathfinder Playtest, we expected to exceed our own ability to fulfill orders on a timely basis, so we decided to use Fulfillment by Amazon. Unfortunately, Amazon's reports indicate that most customers will not be receiving their orders by tomorrow's release date. They shipped 3 orders on July 28, 3 more on July 29, and no orders on July 30 or 31. Today, they have shipped almost 10% of the outstanding orders, and they are continuing to ship through the night and into tomorrow. They have so far been unable to tell us when they will complete shipping. We will be posting updates as we receive them in this forum thread.

This delay doesn't impact preorders placed with retailers; most of them should have already received their products for release tomorrow. Paizo.com preorders for pickup at Gen Con are also unaffected.

We sincerely apologize for this delay. If your paizo.com Pathfinder Playtest preorder is being fulfilled by Amazon, we will be giving you $15 in paizo.com store credit in the near future.

PDFs of all of the playtest products will be available for free shortly after 6:00 AM Pacific time at paizo.com/pathfinderplaytest.

That makes it even stranger that they messed this release up. There was stock in the UK after all

Who should I expect to deliver my order? USPS? UPS? Fedex?

I'm in central North Carolina
I believe that most US orders will be delivered by USPS.

I received my order of the Pathfinder Playtest Rulebook today, Monday August 6, 11am. It was delivered by USPS, the U.S. Postal Service, in my regular mailbox. The padded envelope has the Amazon logo on it. The return address is Paizo Inc., 172 Trade Street, Lexington KY 40511, USA, but the internet tells me that 172 Trade Street is Amazon Fullfilment.

I used to live in Lexington, KY, and it was not a major shipping hub. However, this was in the days before Amazon existed. I currently live in upstate New York, in a farming village near Ithaca.

I had hoped to lend the book this weekend to a player who has trouble accessing the internet. Fortunately, he did succeed in downloading the PDF. He says the download took half an hour due to lost connections.

I don't need the $15 consolation credit. Will there be a way to donate the credit back to Paizo? I suppose I could just buy PDF materials, since those cost very little for Paizo to deliver.

Still no books. I def blame Amazon for this but seeing as how i struggled with who to order this from in order to better guarantee a shipment on the release date and ultimately ended up ordering straight from the source....i think i might stick with a retailer in the future from now on seeing how much i payed for shipping on this order...

Hi Vic,

is there any ETA for Germany?

As it says in my Account:
Shipping Method: Amazon Standard Delivery
Package: Shipped Fri, Jul 13, 2018 (package 1107942)
Tracking: Not trackable

And I received all of your other stuff around 2 weeks after shipping.
Or is this just the date you send it to Amazon? And Amazon send it out at July 28?

This. The only packages that Amazon shipped before August 1 were six packages to Canada.

I'm in California 20 minutes from the Amazon distribution center. We are in the Same-Day delivery range. I still haven't received my order or a notice that it's been shipped.

I'm really sorry this is happening to Paizo. They realized their own warehouse might be overwhelmed and tried to circumvent the issue by contracting with Amazon. Then Amazon critically fumbled its delivery.
Imagine if this had been the major release of 2nd Edition instead of Playtest though! It would have been magnitudes worse!

I got my order yesterday which my package was marked for Sunday delivery along with 3 other packages for different people. I was lucky that these packages ended up at my place since it's an apartment and if they were dropped off at one of the other houses instead, I may not have gotten it. The other three packages were houses nearby my place and I just left each package at their door.

I'm really hoping I'll luck out and get mine delivered today. Doing our first playtest tonight and would love to have my flip maps. We've all got the PDFs but nice to have a real book to flip through.

Liberty's Edge

Mine arrived saturday, of course our mailman once again cannot differentiate a 6 and an 8 so it wne tot my neighbors house. Thanks Paizo! this book is real pretty.

I think the offer of some sort of compensation was laudable. However, when my shipping costs were $15.75, why was I not given store credit equal to the higher shipping costs I paid by ordering it from Paizo?

Scarab Sages

I got a notification from Informed Delivery that says a package is waiting at my front door from Amazon. I'm hoping that not only is it the playtest materials, but that its all the playtest materials that I ordered.

Mine arrived on Saturday (in Massachusetts). All in all, not as bad as I was fearing.

I have learned that the percentages I have been using included a large number of orders we placed and cancelled during testing, so my numbers have been roughly 10% too low all this time. We are at 96% shipped.

My parcel arrived this morning to Barcelona (Spain).

Odd enough the delivery man (UPS?) requested 3.45 € to release the parcel and left no ticket.

The rulebook has a small hit in the top border of the back cover, but overall it is in good condition. The adventure and maps are in perfect condition.

I have glanced over the pages and the edition looks awesome for a playtest version.

Hey Vic. I know that you may not have a solid answer and I know only 96% have shipped but I was wondering if we still don't have it say at the end of this week and we are in the states, what do you recommend we do? Since it isn't trackable I have no way of knowing if it has been "delivered" or if it is still in transit.

P.S. Thank you for being forward and honest with us. While I'm bummed about this, I'm sure you are all doing your best and I've always had a good experience interacting with you all. I hope people can see that.

Once Amazon has completed shipping, we'll make a post about how long you should wait before you contact us and other such things.

If someone from the Netherlands gets their parcel could they please mention how it was delivered and by who? Like is it a parcel or does it fit in the mailbox? And will it be delivered by UPS, DHL, PostNL or someone else?
This way I can decide on when to be home and/or track it (PostNL tracks all their packages)

Hey Vic, what the % for canada?

Whelp. Good news is I got a delivery in Seattle today. Bad news is no rule book was in the package. Just the flip mat and the Doomsday book. Here's hoping it was shipped separately..... Seems odd that they would do that though.

A bunch of orders (about 2 to 3 percent) have been split up, for whatever reason. Does the packing slip tell you anything useful?

If Amazon pushed their canadian deliveries through Canada Post, then anyone in Canada who hasn't got it yet will not get it till tomorrow at the earliest as Canada Post is closed for deliveries today.

Packing slip does not show the rule book, so that is why I am hoping it got shipped separately. I did order the red collectors edition.

Thanks for asking, just a wait and see. Here's hoping it shows up tomorrow :P

We have posted the $15 credit to affected accounts, and will soon be sending the following email:

Last week, we emailed you regarding issues with Pathfinder Playtest preorder fulfillment, and we told you that if your paizo.com Pathfinder Playtest preorder is being fulfilled by Amazon, we will be giving you $15 in paizo.com store credit.

This credit has now been added to your paizo.com account.

Fulfillment By Amazon has now shipped approximately 97% of the preorders. We will continue posting updates in this thread on the paizo.com forums.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this delay.

Not everyone had the same shipping costs as you did, thus they probably gave what they thought was a reasonable compensation to everyone for the extra waiting time - i.e. it's not a refund of shipping costs, but a compensation for the longer wait.

Unfortunately the minimum eGiftcard is $5, otherwise I would have gladly gifted you a giftcard of $0.75 since it seems to be so important to you that you get those last $0.75. I hope the "missing" $0.75 doesn't wreck your monthly budget.

My rulebook and adventure showed today in one mailer. Would've been Saturday, but I had the mail held due to being away on vacation.

It's odd that USPS Informed Delivery still shows a bound printed matter Amazon package in limbo. I assumed they had split the two books into two shipments, but maybe they changed their mind last minute and only used one, and this will forever be dormant?

Regardless, even though this was shipped in the same lame, weak cardboard envelope Amazon loves to use for books, because I opted for softcover, the books are intact! If they were hardcover I'm sure the corners would be smooshed.

EDIT: actually, I take it back. One of the corners of the rulebook is weirdly wrinkled, but was flat in the shipping envelope so I didn't notice until I looked closer. Maybe it happened during printing. Not worth it to complain, but thought you guys would want to know.

Anyway, hope everyone gets theirs soon,

-HM

Thank you for being condescending.

Its the principle of the matter, not the cash.

Any word on whether Amazon will be refunding our shipping costs for so entirely botching this endeavor?

You might say it's the principle of the matter, but for $0.75 it just seems petty to me. Again, keep in mind that this is something you're getting even if Amazon decides to reimburse all the shipping costs - it's not a replacement for your shipping costs, so the fact that you paid $15.75 is immaterial to the store credit.

As Vic posted earlier:

Vic Wertz wrote:

We have asked them to step up and waive the fees for all of these orders. I have no idea whether they will do that or not, but if they do, we will refund your shipping fees in addition to issuing the $15 paizo.com store credit.

Somebody is always going to be last... but you weren't even in the bottom 10%.

That said, one of the biggest reasons that we chose Fulfillment By Amazon is because we believed the difference between first and last was going to be pretty insignificant, and that turned out to be false. I apologize for that.

When I left the house at 1130 this morning, there was a package on my doorstep. Label says it was from Paizo, and "Sunday delivery". It also has a USPS tracking number on it. Far as I know, the post office doesn't delivery on Sunday. I was home all day yesterday, so if it was delivered then, the delivery person did the usual — dropped it on the doorstep and did *not* knock or ring the doorbell. But I have it. I'm in Rochester, NY. Dunno where the nearest Amazon fulfillment center is. Buffalo, maybe.

Somebody upthread said something that led me to wonder if I had somehow neglected to order a hardcopy Bestiary, but as near as I can tell, there isn't one. Is that right? I do have the pdf.

I think Paizo has done an outstanding job dealing with this mess. And I say that as a retired military officer. Yes, if you delegate you're still responsible. But the one delegated is responsible - and accountable - as well, to the entity doing the delegating. As I understand it Paizo is still talking to Amazon about that, but IMO that's not really our concern. Our concern is "when are we getting our stuff?" The rest will come out in the wash eventually.

Ed Reppert wrote:

That's correct. No print copies of the Bestiary.

Hi Vic.

I'm merely curious, so don't go to too much effort, but if it's easy - is there any chance of giving a few sample Australian estimated delivery dates?

(Also, have any Australians got theirs yet? With the GST rollout for international orders, I'm expecting there to be some hiccups in processing times in the next few months).

Although a slightly different issue (I didn’t order directly from Paizo), I have still not received my books (Rulebook and Adventure). This is because, according to the store I ordered from (in UK), the adventure was not received when the rulebook was. I find this odd; would have thought they were shipped for distribution together.

Looks like I may miss the start of the playtest as I wanted to have physical copies at the table.
