Hi Folks, I would like to start a 5th Edition Curse of the Crimson Throne game. Let me start out by saying that I realize that these adventures have been around for some time already. I’m sure a bunch of you have already read/ run/ played in them. If you have, it’s fine, you will be expected to keep character and player knowledge separate though. I WILL also be making changes to the story, so not everything that you know will be reliable information anyway.

I’ve already got two players on board, so I am willing to take on up to four more, for a total of six.

Character Creation:

Races: We’re playing in Golarion, so keep in mind the normal races. That means no Drow or Dragonborn. Tieflings and Aasimar are okay, so are Goliaths, just reskin them as a particularly large Ulfen or something. If you have something else in mind from Volos or one of the web supplements, run it by me and I’ll check it out. Humans can take the alternate feat option if they like.

Classes: All of the PHB stuff is cool. I’ve barely looked at Sword Coast Adventures, but I have access to it, so if there is some archetype you want to use in there, let me know and I’ll check it out. I’d rather stay away from the unearthed arcana stuff.

Ability scores: Let’s keep it simple. Pick an array from the character creation section of the PHB and go!

Background: Curse of the Crimson Throne players guide is here. Download it and check it out. It is, in my opinion, one of the best players guides that Paizo has done for an AP. Read about some of the places, organizations and NPCs. I’m open to allowing you to have ties with some of those things from the get-go.

We are going to diverge a bit from the starting expectations of the AP. I would like at least some of you to start off as members of the Korvosan guard. You’ll be working for Field Marshal Kressida Croft to hunt down the criminal Gaedran Lamm. If you don’t want to go that route for your character, you should use the traits in the players guide to figure out your attachment to Lamm. You don’t have to use the specifics listed there, it’s your story, you tell me how you were victimized by Gaedran.

Other Considerations: You’re the good guys, so no evil alignments please.
Also, Korvosa will be going through some tough times in this AP. It would makes sense for some folks to pack up and abandon it for greener Magnimars. It’s up to you to make sure that you aren’t one of those folks. Your character should care about Korvosa and want to stay there.
Most of this AP takes place in the city, but there are some excursions.
Aaaand.. That’s all I’ve got on Character creation for now.

Posting Expectations:

Baseline is once a day, but I can often post more than that. If you can’t post on a given day, I think we will all get over it. I know that will happen to me. I have a job that gets super busy occasionally without any notice. I also have an infant at home.. That combination means that there will be days that I can’t post and won’t have the time/ brain space to give a head’s up to you all. I don’t post much on weekends but usually check on the game and can probably squeeze a post in when I need to.

This brings me to late summer. My job gets a bit hellish between mid August to mid September and my posting is going to drop to a trickle at that time. We might have to put the game on hiatus then, but I would have to let you know closer to that time. It’s different every year.

Playing the Game:

5E is a bit fast and loose with it’s rules, which matches up pretty well with my GM style. I will always try to stay consistent and fair with my rulings, but hey, i’m human.

I loathe making and updating combat maps, and so theater of mind will be how we play it, unless there is a situation that absolutely calls for a map.

I’ll roll initiative for everyone at the start of the combat. This usually helps keep things rolling.

We won’t be using XP. Leveling will be a milestone/ DM fiat sort of thing.

I don't have a real deadline for starting, just when folks are ready (including me).

Not sure if this is the right section of the boards to post this, but here goes.

Back in December I noticed that there were no modules upcoming in the subscription line and asked about it on the subscription thread. I got an answer from another poster and about a month later, James Jacobs gave a more official answer that it is on hiatus.

Just this morning I was looking at the product thread for the Campaign Setting and noticed that it is skipping March, April and May. As a subscriber to both of those lines, I'm wondering why no communication has been made with me about the change in schedule. I get frequent emails from Paizo about new offers, sales and when the contents of a PDF change, so I know your folks aren't shy about sending them.

It would be nice to not have to notice these thing on my own, then scour the boards for answers.

Hi all. My group is going to choose our next AP tonight and I wanted to be able to tell them all a little bit about path to inform their decisions. I figured an easy way to do this would be to copy/ paste the little blurbs on each of the APs page into a handout. After reading through them though, they seem a bit spoilery to me, like maybe they were written more for GMs. What do you all think?

Hi folks! My group and I are looking for a player or two to join our existing Reign of Winter play by post. The current group is a dwarven Fighter, A human Winter Witch and a human Rogue with the scout archetype, so a Cleric or an Oracle would fit in pretty nicely.

A couple things of note:

• Starting level is one, we aren't using exp, but leveling when the adventure dictates.
  
• We are using 20 point buy
  
• Two traits (one campaign, one other).
  
• Core races. I will consider APG races but no custom creations please.
  
• Starting Hp is max + constitution modifier + 5.
  
• Our group has a pretty relaxed posting pace.
  
• No Summoners or Gunslingers please.

Hi folks, this is the character generation and out of character discussion thread for our Reign of Winter game.

Rules for character creation are;

• Twenty point buy
• Two traits (one must be a campaign trait from the players guide)
• Classes and archetypes from official Paizo Pathfinder products are cool with the exception of the gunslinger and the summoner
• Add 5 to your starting HP at first level
• All core races are cool, if you want to be a weird race, let me know and we can discuss.

I don't actually have the book yet so my ability to answer specific questions is sorta limited. Hopefully Wednesday..

Wow, there is a lot of Champions stuff in there. Anyone have experience with that system? Good or bad?

After a weeks travel Rand, Flint and Balta ascend Bryson's look, s small, lightly forested hill. Near the top they begin to find old bits of ruin and occasional stone block.
Not much farther along, evidence of camps begin to crop up, long burnt out cook fires and rusted through kettles. There, next to a copse of silver maples, is a twenty foot wide pit with a set of stone stairs descending..

The path leading up to the pit is well worn. Though it has rained in the last few days, there is still evidence of tracks..

A question for those who have read Ultimate Magic and are good with system/balance type stuff.

I'm not a big fan of prepared spellcasting but really like the Magus. Would there be any balance issues if I were to play them as a spontaneous spellcaster, using the Bard's spells known/ per day progression table, keeping the Magus list?

So, I searched around on the site and looked through the FAQ but couldn't find an answer for this. Sorry if I just missed it somewhere.

Can you put multiple effects of Evil Eye on one creature? For example, you put the -4 to saves on the first turn, maintain with Cackle, second turn put -4 to attack on the same creature... so on.

Doesn't look like they retained most of the mythology/backstory, which I was a huge fan of. Honestly though, I'm not sure I even care. It looks that cool.. It almost has more of a horror movie feel to it.

So I just made my first 4th edition character and he's only got a 10 as his reflex save. I'm a little concerned, but I don't really know the system that well to know if it's that big of a deal. So am I about to get my lunch eaten?

Whenever a new race comes out, where is that races niche in different campaign settings spelled out? Is that something that pops up in Dragon? I looked around, but couldn't find anything like that.

Edit: I spelled Eberron wrong in my title. Don't know how to change it. So sue me. :-P

I was thinking about running a game of 4th ed (probably some converted Paizo modules), but I've heard that there is a LOT of errata for the it. My question is, can the game be run with PHB 1, 2, 3 and MM 1 & 2 without any kind of subscription? I don't mind if small tweaks were made but I don't want to open up PHB 3 and realize a bunch of stuff doesn't make any sense because I didn't read the errata for PHB1. Any help is appreciated. I would like to cancel all of my subscriptions, but I want you to know that it has nothing to do with the quality of your product or your customer service. I will continue to purchase all of my subscription products through my FLGS. I've been a customer of theirs for the past 13 years and I don't feel like I've given them enough support recently. Also, I get the impression that I'm in a heavy 4th edition area (Pittsburgh) and I would like to "grease the wheels" a little for Paizo products. I'm going to start GMing a LoF game next week and I'm having trouble with the setting. I don't have any experience with a desert climate so i'm pretty foggy on details. There are minor things like where people go to the bathroom and there are more obvious things like architecture and how people interact etc... Anyone know of any good movies to watch that are good representations of life in the desert? Failing that, books to read?
