Using Reaper Minis

I was wondering if Reapers Dark Heaven line of minis were size appropriate to use with their Pathfinder line.

This may be in the wrong section, if so, feel free to move it.

Well, since Reaper now makes both, I'd say "yes".

(That plus I use all kinds of minis at my table, and they are fine.)

Cool, thanks for the help. I've never used minis for roleplaying so I wasn't sure if the sizes were standard. The reason I ask is:

RotRL Spoiler:
I bought and painted a Xanesha mini this weekend so that I could surprise my players with it when they get to her. That gave me the idea to buy and paint some minis for their PCs, so that we could use them for the fight. Since Xanesha is supposed to be large, I didn't want to get models that overshadow her.

Other than their giant-sized special minis (like holiday promotions meant to be painted for show rather than used in a game) and their mecha minis, all of Reaper's mini lines are "heroic 28mm" scale--that includes Pathfinder, Dark Heaven, Chronoscope, and so on, and you can use them together without any weird scale issues.

In fact, the only minis I have a scale issue with are some old Ral Partha and some current Mega Minatues figs, as they are almost all "true" 25mm. BUT, since I use them exclusively for non-heroic support/background flavor NPCs, it works out ok, as it makes the "movers and shakers" appear appropriately "larger than life".

The other company to watch out for is Red Box, as their figures are also true 25mm....though they have some of the most gorgeous figures I have seen in recent times. In my LoF group the elf is just a little shorter than the others, which explains his attitude.

Warmachine uses 30mm and you can really tell. Careful there.

Reaper's Warlord minis are also the standard scale and they have excellent detail! I really like them.

I use buttloads of DHL and Warlords minis in my Pathfinder game.

They all work well together, and I am also heretic enough to consider doing conversions with them (I'm in ur miniatures, cuttin' off Seoni's arms--and replacing them with other ones of course. I'm not a monster).

"Aren't you a little short for an elf?"

I'm using DH, Warlord and PF minis for my PF game and they all work great! I'm even taking the bomb from Reapers CS terrorist and putting it on a PF goblin for the Goblin Alchemists in my group.

Just a random reaper miniatures related comment... we received permission from Reaper to include images of their figs on d20pfsrd.com and are beginning to add them in some monster places. They gave us a rather large zip file of images to use so it may take some time but they will be getting added as time goes on.

Some examples:

Minotaur
Roper
Bulette
Dryad
Merfolk
Bebilith
Bat Swarm
Planetar
Giant Eagle
Stone Giant
Marilith
Ogre
Axe Beak
Dire Bat

That's all... carry on :)

I don't really think it's a big deal. Not every adult male human is 6 feet tall, and you're going to have some height variance within a range (whether 25mm, 28mm, or 30mm). Even if all minis in the same range were exactly the same height when standing up straight, that just means a 30mm scale mini is about 6 ft. 5 in. compared to a 28mm mini who's supposedly 6 ft. 0 in. And especially as most minis have variant poses (legs apart, running, etc.) so they're not perfectly upright with a stiff posture.

Yeah that's true. You would want to rebase them though since they're bases are considerably larger then a normal battle grid. Stuff like that makes me twitch O . o I'm the guy at the table who constantly adjusts mini so they're setting dead center in their squares.

You should just rid yourself of the squares then, use a tape measurer.

Yeah, I base all of my minis on washers (for weight, stability, durability, and consistency). I really want to shift to a 1.5" grid to give minis more room because 1" is a tight fit even when sculptors aren't making swords and tails stick out sideways all the time. :p

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Not a bad idea there. Except a certainly company keeps publishing Adventure Paths with 100ft square rooms....

A 1.5" square would probably feel more like a 5ft square in relation to 28mm minis now that I think about it.
