Xavier mutters a few words and enchants his staff with arcane power. He then steps up and attacks the beetle with a two-handed strike from his quarterstaff.

Xavier hurries forward and sees the creature. Hearing Griff's warning he doesn't hesitate, casting a color spray of his own.

Move to F2, cast Color spray on corner of E and F2 - should mostly hit the wall, but will hit the creature and avoid my peers.

Xavier has a pleasant enough rest of the festival. He heads to his lodging and prepares his spells for the coming journey.

The next morning, he dons his armor and heads to the Lodge to meet up with the rest of the group for the journey.

"We shall return as soon as the deed is done, my lady," Xavier says, standing and bowing deeply. "I hope that I did not insult you - I merely wish to protect our interests as new Society members. I am sure you remember what it was like. Thank you for your hospitality and for entrusting this task to us. We will not fail."

With that he turns to the door and takes the parchment from the servant. When the group is out of the room, he says, "I'm sorry I almost got us into a bit of trouble, but I feared there may have been something she wasn't telling us. I certainly believe she was telling the truth in the end, though."

As you know, we are new to the Society and having powerful friends such as yourself, while invaluable, cannot be at the expense of the Society at large. I would like to have an answer prepared, should we be asked to defend our decision to give such a valuable artifact directly to you - which, I for one, fully intend to do."

Ah...I completely missed the Lantern Lodge. My bad. And I'm good at not reading spoilers I'm not supposed to. Normally. This was one of those times. :)

Xavier will accompany Vermin to acquire a courtier's suit as well, though he will try to find one that is distinctly Chelish in its design.

Xavier curses quietly when seeing their latest "mission." He had countless sets of expensive clothing back in Westcrown. But he didn't expect to need them here as a member of The Society. Turning to Vermin he says, "Sadly, our armor is not as a stylish as our esteemed colleague's. We should likely go purchase something more appropriate."

Turning to Dunn, he says, "Dunn, I don't suppose you would happen to know a tailor near here, would you? It seems that I will need to procure a nice set of clothing for this evening's festivities."

I see that a Courtier's outfit is 30GP - is that the amount we should expect to spend? Or do we need nicer clothing than that?

It seems more within my character to go with infernal, but better for the party if I go with CLW. I'll think on this for a bit.

Do we need another infernal healing wand? I'm almost tempted to stick with CLW, as it seems to be a little more useful, despite the need to UMD. Thoughts?

Hmm...that's odd. I must have tinkered with something, as I thought I had Profession: Librarian. Apparently I do not. Can I take a day job without a profession skill?

And I'm definitely in for Part 2, as well.

I need some recommendations for what to buy, however. I'm considering a masterwork quaterstaff, but that kind of feels like a waste of my 2PP. Do we need another wand of CLW or Infernal Healing?

Xavier's eyes go wide for only a moment as Vermin beats the man down. Then, a narrow smile appears before he says, "I believe he was telling the truth and would have stood down. But I appreciate your tenacity and focus. I am glad to know you're on my side. What would you do with his friends who lie asleep?"

I know we're not at level two yet, but what is your ruling on using Arcane Mark to gain a second attack with spellstrike? I've seen it used, but just want to confirm that you'd allow it as I plan ahead.
