Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Wyneiss shakes herself free of the reverie she had slipped into while waiting, thoughts about old conversations. She did have some things to accomplish personally, mostly ones she could look forward to. But certain aspects of her faith didn't come easily to her. She doesn't like the politics. But, little the Savored Sting involves herself in is free from politics. Wyneiss rarely grasps the point of all the maneuvering and contortions, and while she can usually grasp intellectually how some of it is worthwhile, she cannot feel the enjoyment that come from treating it like a sport, Calistria's favorite sport. She sighs, trying to ignore the banality of the chatter, especially the Kellid man's, and agrees with the other elf, Yathlara, that a period of relaxation would be fine for now. Sorry for the slowness. I've been a bit busy with work, and we had a sunny and dry weekend. That's a big deal here in Portland! ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Wyneiss shares her name, place or origin, and purpose in Mendev with those who are there. She does this briskly, seeing to reason to linger on her biography. She also greets the others as they their own information, which includes confirming the Kellid man's speculation that there is a worshipper of Calistria present and that it is her. Otherwise she has nothing further to add at the present. The others seem to know each other, or be familiar, and she can't really follow their conversation. She expects that is some local stuff, a bit of news mixed with random chatter. Her perception is of a heterogenous group united primarily by the considerable amount of noise they make. While the talking goes on, Wyneiss patiently looks about, alternating between the landscape, the sky, and the people. When the talking winds down, she adds a question. "So, here we are. What is our specific purpose?" Wyneiss adds "specific" because she thinks it likely that one or more of the others will reply with something blindingly obvious like 'to kill demons' or 'to patrol the area', or 'to win this war' because of foolishness or in an appalling attempt to play the comedian. ![]()

![]() Wyneiss is disappointed. "I am disappointed they were not interrogated, but it is understandable." Although also sloppy and unimaginative. "I would have liked to know the nature of the information they had concerning me. If I knew, I could begin to trace the source, or sources, to their origin. I have not been in Mendev for long, and I have done nothing to bring attention to myself, aside from being a newcomer." "So, the question I want an answer for is this: Was the decision to mimic me made based on information originating in Mendev, or could it have come from The Tanglebriar? Some things could only be known from one of the places or another. It would be useful in finding the source." "While demons are not given to cooperation, or complex schemes, if there is some kind of information sharing between The Tanglebriar and the Worldwound, it would be beneficial to know of it." ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Wyneiss looks up at the pair of heads while Anevia explains them. She's neither surprised nor disturbed by them. In fact, she seems focused or perhaps intent on taking in all the details. The elf is tall, at least in this new land full of humans, and slender, as is typical for elves. She stands very straight, with her hands clasped behind her back, giving her something of a military air. Her clothes are a variety of darker dull earth-tones, completely unremarkable. But, the brooch that clasps her cloak identifies her as a Ranger of Kyonin. When Anevia is finished speaking, Wyneiss asks her a couple of questions without taking her eyes of the heads. While her Taldane is excellent, it is clear that she rarely uses the language. "How did they account for themselves? What did they say under questioning when claiming they were me? Be specific with the details please." ![]()
![]() Level 2: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12 = 7
Reroll 3: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 8) = 15 = 8
And Again on 6: 2d10 ⇒ (6, 10) = 16 = 10 So 83 total HP before CON and FCB After CON and +10 FCB (Since the Elf FCB for Ranger ain't great) + 30 HP for 113 HP ![]()
![]() Whew! That was a near miss by a freight train! I thought EitR was already in so if it wasn't I'd have a real mess to clean up. In other news, I'm working on an ascension scenario that involves a servitor of Calistria as the mechanism behind the event. Since that is the case I'll find a feat to drop in favor of Deific Obedience. ![]()
![]() Here's the mostly completed Wyneiss. She's primarily an archer ranger, but she can be sort of a pocket melee striker if needed. Her archetypes make her good against demons and able to give party buffs through her altered favored terrain ability. Her background needs a little more work to include her ascension story, which I'm still thinking about. I also need to buy most of her gear, but I wasn't sure about wealth. Is is straight WBL that being used? Finally, I'd appreciate any input regarding problems or mistakes with the build. I think it's largely correct, but I don't have experience with mythic and that plus 10th level means a lot of moving parts to figure out. A couple of things I'm thinking about related to the conversation about dialing some things down due to mythic being so powerful. 1. With her plot course ability active, Wyniess has an initiative bonus of +13. Is that crazy? I'm not sure what to measure it against in this game. If that's way high, I can replace a trait to lower it by 2. 2. I'm thinking of taking the multishot feat off the table. Archers do fine damage without it, and have an easier time getting full attacks anyway. I'm thinking Wyneiss is more about accuracy than filling the sky with arrows. I think rapid shot will be plenty of arrows per round. ![]()
![]() Cool cool. I could also see the desire for deniability being reversed, with Kyonin wanting it the most. If Kyonin is discovered to be meddling in the Worldwound, it may piss off the demon lords there enough for them to decide to return the favor in the Tanglebriar. Demons aren't known for mutual goodwill and cooperation so it might not be a likely response. Treerazor is not in good standing in the Abyss. But Kyonin is a paranoid kind of place in some ways. It could easily conclude any risk at all is too much risk. EDIT: Also the deeper reason her backstory imples for why Wyniess is in Mendev is to get rid of her for a while. The Rangers don't want to boot her out, and they don't want her in the Tanglebriar for a good long time. Kyonin's leadership might see some value in the exchange, but mostly it's about getting Wyniess out of sight and out of mind. ![]()
![]() Um, so is that a "yes" or a "no" regarding Wyniess and Plausibly Deniable? I'd characterize Kyonin as considering the Mendevian Crusade to be an allied effort, and Kyonin is running it's own insular little anti-demon crusade in the Tanglebriar. But Kyonin is also not inclined to materially support the Mendevian Crusade since it is otherwise occupied. I will assume "yes" until told "no". ![]()
![]() @Liliyashanina: A question about qualifying for the Plausibly Deniable and First World, Last Word traits. How close to the traits' fluff does a character need to be to qualify? For example, Wyniess is a member of an outside organization, she's a Kyonin Ranger. Close enough for Plausibly Deniable? She has an employer involved in military pursuits, but it is not a mercenary company. First World, Last Word requires "Have a degree of Fae influences". Does this mean a class ability, trait, or feat that involves Fey in some way? Background involving Fey? ![]()
![]() I guess I don't know enough about mythic to make an educated decision. The trait could slot into her backstory pretty well, but the mythic path might not fit. The classes given as an example for it suggest charisma might matter. If it does, Wyniess isn't a good fit since she only has a 10. If it's more class linked than ability score linked it might work. I guess I'll have to do some research and really understand this mythic stuff *grumble*. ![]()
![]() Elliot: I don't want to tell you what to do by any means, but I'm playing a Void School Wizard who does a lot of battlefield control in a Mummy's Mask campaign, and it's wildly fun. We just finished an encounter with 2 mummies in which everyone except my 4th level wizard failed the paralysis effect save. I had to figure out how to stay alive and keep the mummies from killing everyone else until the effect wore off. I succeeded so I'm riding kinda high at the moment. I didn't solo kill any mummies, but I kept them unable to do anything until the party could act again. It's more challenging, like puzzle solving, compared to blowing stuff up. But it's way more satisfying IMHO. It forces you to think ahead a few rounds, then adjust to changing circumstances as they arise. ![]()
![]() GM Worldwound: I went with the name Morgethai because I can sometimes have trouble with coming up with elven names that seem right, not too familiar and not too Tolkien. When I stumbled across the prolific Morgethai family I had a name that was canon for Golarion and could be easily poached. The cousin is Damiel, Paizo's iconic Alchemist. It's meant as sort of a joke. :) But hey, he could still show up, why not?
Wyniess isn't meant to be an official representative of Kyonin like an ambassador or an attaché. She's just a military observer. Really her commander sent her so she'd do as she's told and convalesce while feeling like she has a purpose. She's not supposed to be an active combatant in Mendev. Maybe she would go on a few patrols to see how they're conducted, and visit some outposts around Mendev to see how they're run. Mostly though she's supposed to remain in Nerosyan and Kenabres to learn what she can about how Mendev conducts it's campaigns strategically, tactically, and operationally. She not a spy by any means, it's a way for allied militaries to share best practices. Of course things are going to go very sideways in Kenabres and after that, all bets are off. Observers are going to have to do something. However, if there are reasons why this particular take on why she's in Mendev doesn't work, she could as easily have decided to use her three years to half a decade of enforced leave to just go fight demons in Mendev on her own. One thing I'll bring up in case it's significant in some way. Her backstory does change around the events as written for her Exposed to Awfulness campaign trait. If there's a reason that can't be done, she could switch to Chance Encounter instead without wrecking her background as is. One of the patrols she went along on went bad and she needed rescue as a survivor of it. Wyniess is eager enough to tippy-toe over a line from safe observation to maybe not so safe observation for sure.

![]() Hi Kazmanaught, Yeah navigating the application process for games can take some getting used to. It's a gamble for everyone involved. The interested players have to make a guess about what a GM will prefer. Then the GM has to look at all the submissions and try to assemble a party out of them, both in terms of what they think will work, and which ones best meet their vision of what the game will be like. There are sort of two ways you can go. 1. Look at the submissions so far and find a niche that few people are covering. Make a character that covers that niche. For example, the recruitment is getting crowded with martial and skills (Bards) characters. so don't make one of them. There aren't any full arcane casters (I think so far) so make one of them. It simply increases your odds because the pool you're in is smaller. 2. If you really prefer a particular play style in characters, like for example martial, and don't have much fun with other character types, make a martial. Yes, there are more martial choices so your odds go down. But if you don't have fun with other character types, who cares? You won't be having fun playing the other kind of character if you're chosen, so why be in the game at that cost? Regardless of which you do, work on your backstory. The "fluff" aspects of the character are how you present your vision of how your character will act, think, and interact with other characters. If you think of PbP as an exercise in collaborative writing, sort of the text version of improvisational acting, you'll see why the GM needs to care about it a great deal. If the mechanics delineate the character, the backstory delineates the player. It doesn't have to be incredibly long and complicated, just show your ideas for the character so the GM has an idea of where you want to go with the character. ![]()
![]() Wyneiss has her background now. It went a little long I suppose, but it's not super complicated. I still have to add some to the Appearance/Personality section and finish up gear. I switched the Infiltrator archetype for Transporter. The two things about Ranger I don't care for are the animal companion and Favored Terrain. Transporter changes the two of them into a really nice and flexible package. ![]()
![]() I have this character (Ranger: Tanglebriar Demonslayer / Infiltrator) mostly made for an earlier recruitment but didn't submit her in the end. I got stuck on the backstory. I'll need to adjust up to a 25 point buy and drop her level from 3 down to 1. The other recruitment wasn't using mythic or the campaign traits, so I'll need to switch a trait. I'll be choosing either Chance Encounter for Trickster or Exposed to Awfulness for Guardian. Wyneiess has come up from Kyonin on a sabbatical from holding the line on the edge of the Tanglebriar. Time to broaden her skill set. ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Here's the Cavalier archetype. I've never played a Cavalier, but the reduced Challenge damage and standard actions used for party buffs and aid another mean rounds not attacking. It's possibly fine but I'd hate to be wrong. ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Ah, If it's core and base then probably Fighter is best. There's lots of cool stuff with weapon and armor training now I'd like to try out anyway. Sister-in-Arms is a cavalier archetype so it qualifies, but as I mentioned it's oriented toward teamwork and aid abilities so I don't think it would solo well. It would need another martial to work with. Oracle is base so a Battle Mystery Oracle could work. But it might not be demon fighting tough enough and Merixia is already a divine full caster. I suppose Paladin isn't off the table, but like I said I think Paladins would require party consensus first. I don't know about Death-Lok or Kyrie (they are different people), but I expect Shogunto will be coming back. At least I hope so. I'm in a different campaign with them where they're also away for a while, so we're botting their character in the mean time. I don't know if it was mentioned here, but the absence is work related and should end. ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() So, I've been thinking a little about melee in case that is something the party needs. Since the character would be starting at 3rd, I'd like to do something that's impossible for starting at 1st level: A penitent Gray Maiden who wears the Gray Maiden armor. 1st level would be Fighter to pick up heavy armor proficiency and armor training. There's also a feat available that allows a Gray Maiden to treat Gray Maiden plate as medium armor if it's more beneficial for class abilities. After that there are a couple of routes I could go: 1. Bloodrager, probably Destined Bloodline with greatsword. 2. Slayer with with two weapon fighting using longsword and shield. This one is very close to the canon Gray Maidens who used longswords and heavy shields. 3. Paladin is also possible. But that would be more of a group decision since Pally's aren't everyone's cup of tea. There's also a neat Cavalier archetype, Sister-in-Arms, but I think it's too combat support oriented if there's only one dedicated front liner. ![]()
Female Elf Ranger (Tanglebrier Demonslayer / Transporter) 10 | Trickster-Champion 4
![]() Oh, I see Shogunto is also a ranger of the same archetype and an archer. That might be a problem if he's coming back. I could offer up a melee character instead if that how things shake out with returning or not returning players. I have a Bloodrager that's gathering dust I could tweak. ![]()

![]() Hello everyone, I've noticed you've had a hiccup in the game and might find yourselves in need of replacements. I'd like to be considered if you decide to recruit. I dropped out of the original recruitment because I didn't quite get a backstory together in time, and in any case I was pretty busy then. I was sorry to withdraw at the time, I liked the idea of this campaign a lot. Since then I've had a couple of games go under and decided to see what I was missing here. Anyway, I'm sure I could get the backstory finished if you're interested. |
