I am about to start a play-by-post Carrion Crown campaign, adapted from Pathfinder 1e to Pathfinder 2e Remaster rules. This campaign is something of a passion project for me; I was that kid who really, really wanted to play in a Ravenloft game growing up and in college, but never got the chance to. Carrion Crown has always whispered to me.
Let me apologize in advance, this is going to be a pretty long read.
To this end, I have lived vicariously through frequent visits to this forum, dozens of visits to F. Wesley Schneider’s blogs about this adventure path, reading games on the Paizo pbp forum (particularly Jamzilla’s crews), listening to multiple fun podcasts (especially the incomparable Hideous Laughter), and by making maps (some of my roughest of drafts have been posted online). I am aware that Carrion Crown, for all that I personally love it, has its flaws. Since I am an irreparable over preparer, I have tried to develop a two pronged approach to counter some of these issues. Most of the details to follow impact the first two books, but that is fine by me because it will take me forever to get through that material anyways, so I have plenty of time to figure out what I can change
I am planning on introducing some important NPCs at the funeral: Adivion Adrissant, Embreth Daramid, Horace Croon, Kvalca Sain, and Quinley Basdel. I have taken to heart the need to introduce the primary villain early in the campaign, and the funeral is the easiest opportunity to do so. However, I also do not want for Adivion to stand out too much, or it will basically be a giant red arrow screaming “Big Time Villain Here!” All five are former adventuring partners of the Professor at different stages of his life, so they know of each other but are not familiar with one another. Adrissant will also be a former student.
Adrissant and Basdel will speak at the funeral after Kendra Lorrimor, to add a little bit of interesting background for the Professor. Promptly following the funeral, Daramid will receive a brief communication via a Sending spell requiring her immediate return to Lepidstadt due to the arrest of a prominent wanted figure (the Beast). The other four will attend a brief reception following the reading of the will. The players will be able to interact with the four NPCs, and can also overhear interactions between them. Most of the NPCs will leave town quickly, the exception being Adrissant who will remain in Ravengro throughout the entirety of Haunting of Harrowstone. During this time, in the background, I plan on building a romance between Adrissant and Kendra.
The only foreshadowing I plan to provide about Adrissant will be a very brief snippet where Sain addresses him with respect, instinctively sensing on some feral level that Adrissant is a powerful predator in his own rights. To do anything more will likely result in him being identified as the villain, as I think my players will already be suspicious of the standoffish nobleman. I plan on him being a free “Aid Another” each day of the research process, which I am adapting to follow the Research Subsystem. Adrissant will continue to be a source of assistance in Trial of the Beast, where he will assist the investigation and even be willing to serve as an expert witness, a sort of “monster expert.” In my campaign, Adrissant will have been such a legendary duelist during his time at the University of Lepidstadt that he will given sort of a hero’s welcome, much like when a star athlete visits the campus of the college he once played for.
The amazing letters from “A” will start arriving at the end of HoH. As many other GMs before me, I am shamelelessly borrowing this idea. I, like many others, plan to do everything I can to lead my players to believe Auren Vrood is the mysterious “A.” Another letter will be delivered following the trial. After the events at Schloss Caromarc, a third letter will be found at the site of Adrissant’s burned down townhouse. It will look like both he and Kendra were murdered (I think it was Jamzilla’s games that gave me this idea, but if I am wrong, please, somebody, correct me). I think this idea is the best way for me to have the party lose both their helper and emotional anchor, while at the same time angering the player characters at the deaths of their friends. Adrissant’s story arc will largely carryout as published in the books, but with a steady stream of letters and the reveal that he is in fact “A” (and quite alive) at the end of Broken Moon.
I do plan on one of the members of the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye in Caliphas during Ashes at Dawn to reveal that Adrissant had just been in the city a short time before, and that he was accompanied by a “beautiful, pale lady, the child of a legendary member of the Order from out in the boonies.” This, of course, is going to be Kendra. I plan on her story following that of Arazni, with her being turned into some sort of undead creature. She will be a partner in Adrissant’s crimes, but is definitely a coerced partner. The party will discover in Shadows of Gallowspire that the only way to free her from her current condition is to destroy her. She will be all apologies as she fights viciously against the party alongside Adrissant. I think this will make her a tragically gothic character in the end.
The second change I intend to make is to increase the presence of the Night Heralds beyond the weird events of Wake of the Watcher. It is my vision that the first four books of the adventure path be a three way struggle between the Order (represented by the player characters), the Whispering Way, and the Night Heralsds. In HoH, Antrellus the Mad (a Legendary Games npc), the Piper of Illmarsh, and Hean Feramin will all be members of the cult, and the two of them that speak will make sufficiently creepy and vague taunts, both will hint at the Seasage Effigy already being liberated and soon to be returned to its rightful owners, and of the impending doom that will bring Golarion. I will also create research points for the Night Heralds, though they likely will be delivered slowly by Adivion as the party returns from visiting Harrowstone.
Vorkstag and Grine will be the local leaders of a Night Heralds cell. They have been harvesting souls for for decades. This supplements their cadaver stealing business. Their goal is to steal so many souls that Nhimbaloth or Xhamen Dor will become aware of Golarion for a moment, and that the majority of the planet’s residents will be insane by that glance. They have been using the Beast and the local dueling scene to conceal their own crimes. Vorkstag is no longer a Skin Stealer and will now be a Young Conspirator Dragon. The reason they did not ever steal the Seasage Effigy themselves is that it can be dangerous for an “awakened mind of insufficient power” to be in the presence of such an insanity inducing relic. Luckily for them, Auren Vrood has sufficient power to be safe. I don’t know what I am going to do to replace their mongrelmen servants, but I am currently leaning towards bugbears, as they seem the sort to join a serial killer cult. I might even be able to spin in the shrieking madness of Char Gar Gothakon, the beast that hath no name, into the story.
As an aside, I plan on there being a conversation at some point where Adrissant attempts to persuade the characters that the Night Heralds are the real problem, and that the Whispering Way are not that bad.
The Demon Wolves will no longer worship fiends and will now worship the Mythos. I do not have this fleshed out very much in my mind at this point, but I am years from needing a plan for this set of villains.
After Wake of the Watcher, I do see the Night Heralds as being reduced as a threat to the point they are no longer a serious menace to the party. They will be limited to a couple of petulant ambushes during books five and six. At some point, I do want there to be a fairly big three way brawl between the different factions in my campaign. I think it will be interesting for my players to watch some of the bad guys kill each other.
I also intend for there to be some give and take, where the players are offered information by the Night Heralds about the Whispering Way (and vice versa) for the party to mull over.
I feel like I am forgetting half of my ideas. I think I have the bones of an interesting campaign here, but I just wanted some feedback from all of you. Is this too ambitious? What are some ideas I could add to put some more flesh on those bones? Where are the glaring plotholes I am overlooking?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!
In the Monster Core entry for Skeleton Guard it states, "Most skeletons have one of these abilities. If you give a skeleton more, you might want to increase its level and adjust its statistics."
My question is regarding the adjust its statistics part of the rule. To me, it seems clear that the intent is to increase the creatures level because a second (or more) ability increases its lethality. Wouldn't increasing its statistics compound this effect? Or is said compounding the intent?
Thank you in advance for any help. All apologies if this has been discussed before.

I wish there were plans for occasional (biennial?) cohesive level 1-20 APs.
Just saying.

I have now purchased this conversion, so I can now provide the answers to my own questions.
1) This is definitely a conversion to the Remaster rules. Monsters and NPCs are very up to date as of the time it was shared.
2) The Research subsystem from GM Core is used for Ravengro, but is not used in other instances that might be appropriate.
3) Treasure conversions have been done. I saw many items from books as recent as GM Core. Also, unique items have been convereted to Remaster rules. All weapons have been converted to modern rules and appear to be appropriate to the creature levels.
I really like this book. I think it is a well done conversion, and definitely does not overstep by revealing setting/story details. I plan on yoinking several of his ideas for my own campaign.

I am going to be purchasing this in the next month or so regardless of the answer, but I do have three questions:
1) Are the rules converted to Remaster or Premaster?
2) Did you use the Research subsystem for moments such as uncovering all of the information in Ravengro?
3) Did you include treasure conversions (I see you converted over the unique items, I am asking about the regular treasure found throughout the adventure)?
Thank you for your hard work!

I apologize; I am pretty certain this is the wrong forum, but I cannot figure out where to put it.
Is there a way to reach out to one of the Pathfinder Infinite creators? For instance, I purchased the ABCDs of Edicts and Anathema. I love this product! I find myself wondering if there will be a sequel now that Player Core 2 is released, but I cannot figure out how to ask the creator.
I am fully aware that there is likely a very large button with flashing lights in the dead center of my screen that reads, "Contact Creator Here!", but for the life of me, I cannot see it. I think I critically failed my Perception check.
This shows up as having a response, but I cannot see said response.

I have no idea where to post this, so if this is the wrong forum, I apologize.
A few years ago, Paizo posted a video where two people were talking about different sources of inspiration for campaigns. I think the video was a Paizocon session, and was run by Jason Keeley and Jason Tondro, but I am not 100% certain about any of those details. The important thing is that my fuzzy memory combined with my weak searchfu has made it impossible for me to find the video.
What I am really interested in is a book they discussed. Of course, I cannot remember the book's title or author, but I remember it being described as a book that took details from real world historical conspiracies (and conspiracy theories) and presented them as compelling plot hooks.
Does anyone have any idea what video I am talking about? Or, better yet, have information regarding the actual book?
I know this is all astoundingly vague, but I have been looking for this thing off and on for almost a year, but every time I just end up flummoxed and frustrated. So, I am turning to the community at large, with the sincere hope that somebody, somewhere can point me in the right general direction.
I am wanting print copies of the four remastered rulebooks. When will the subscription page for rulebooks be updated so that it starts with the upcoming Player Core?
I have built a couple of monsters using Monster Tool over at PF2 Tools. Is anyone aware of a similar tool for creating/converting hazards
Will there be any other rulebooks released during the four books?

I want both pdf and hard copies of the four Remastered books. Is it possible for Paizo to create a subscription for just the Remastered books?

In my specific instance, my players found a key hanging on a peg. Two rooms and one challenging encounter later, they find the lock the key goes to.
In a face-to-face game the players would likely remember the key, as they acquired it only an hour ago in real life.
In my pbp game, the key was discovered just over two weeks ago, and they never remember these types of things.
Should I remind the players about the key? How do I do so without ruining the narrative or usurping their control of events?
No, I did make a mistake. The PC starts with 1 hp, and I mistakenly brought them back to 1 hp later as well.
Thank you for the input everyone!
A PC in my group has 1 hero point, 1 hp, and 1d6 Persistent Bleed Damage. By my reading, at the start of his next activation, he will fall Unconscious and become Dying 1.
Assuming he fails all of the many checks in the next few rounds, just as the PC enters Dying 4, the PC would use his hero point. I know that gets rid of all Dying conditions, returns the PC to 1 hp, and also means no Wounded condition.
Would it also be the end of the Persistent Damage?
I just noticed this while digging through Pathfinder Infinite. Has anyone here purchased this pdf? If so, what do you think of it?
Thre is a mitflit wandering around on some scaffolding 8 feet above the ground. A dwarf PC wants to grab its ankle.
The PC strides 10 feet. Should I require an Athletics check to increase the vertical leap, followed by a second Athletics check to grapple the Mitflit? Or, should I assume the dwarf can reach 8 feet and just go straight to the Athletics check to grapple?
That is a better plan than I had (which is none). Tbh, I never considered carrying a Starknife around to use as "ammunition" for Telekinetic Projectile. Thank you!
I really liked the artwork and story for the 1e iconic Medium.
I was thinking Bard with the Enigma Muse would be the best baseline. I remember there being a conversion guide when 2e first came out that recommended taking Cleric Dedication at level 2, but with more books being out, I think Oracle Dedication is more in keeping with the supernatural and creepy nature of the old Medium's powers. A lot of the details can be worked out from that skeleton.
But, I don't know how to get him to be good with the Starknife. Any advice?
I am planning on starting with the funeral for Lasda Venkervale. He has been missing for more than a year, and is assumed dead. Beforehand, the PCs were each approached by Wrin, who has been reading the stars, and asked them to attend with all of their gear. A small number of kobolds (the last of the Stonescale kobolds displaced by the mitflits) will have been sheltering in the cemetery. Based on my players' conduct in the past, this will likely result in violence, which they will be the only ones equipped to handle. After the kobolds are dealt with, Wrin will gasp in horror and point to the Gauntlight in the distance, which will be clearly lit. Panic will ensue, and Mayor Menhemes (who will be attending the funeral) will ask for volunteers to investigate.
Kind of a mixture of Rise of the Runelords and Carrion Crown.

ShadowFighter88 wrote: So just going through it and noticed a hiccup with the map, specifically on A16. The room's description mentions some of the cages being marked to indicate their current occupants, but all of the cages on the map are blank.
EDIT: Should point out this is the PDF and I'm looking at both the map in the adventure PDF and the version in the maps PDF. Both have the cages unmarked.
Has anyone figured out what is going on with this issue? The hard copy book's map is also unmarked.
I love how 2e got rid of the need for a "big six" set of items. I really love how this encouraged players to give their characters "fun" items. But, a lot of the "fun" items from before the edition change have not been carried over. Are there rules to allow for the creation of new runes or items? For instance, is it possible to recreate a Ring of Jumping?
So, as I have mentioned in another thread, I am trying to map out the treasure in an adventure. For a group of level three characters, table 10-9 recommends 2 3rd level and 2 4th level permanent items. What about lower level permanent items? Does this mean that the group should not encounter any 2nd level items? Or are lower level items excluded from the list because they are so "behind the times" at that level that sprinkling a few in would not imbalance things?
For instance, should all magic weapons at this point be +1 striking and not merely +1? Even if throwing a smattering of +1 weapons in here and there is considered not that consequential, wouldn't it wreck what feels like a much tighter game economy?
Would something like Temporary Tool be a good idea?
I am working on treasure for a campaign, and I want to include the occasional wand. To be honest, I get overwhelmed by the spell lists at times, however. Is there a list or guide somewhere that someone has already compiled of ideal wand spells?
I saw the spells guide over at the Guide to Guides page, and my current thought is to focus on the spells marked as "decent, but situational" (my phrasing). Any thoughts?

I would buy all things Carrion Crown.
I cannot find any rules for identifying poisons (though I am certain they exist and are probably very clearly labeled in the Core rulebook). Could someone give me a nudge in the right direction on this topic?
Silly question, but what are the glowing runes around spellcasters' hands called? I think I remember hearing an official name has been given to them in one of the newer books, but I must have missed it in my reading. A page reference would be awesome as well, if possible.
I am thinking about getting back into running pbp games. I am wondering how most of you handle reactions in 2e games. Back in the day, I would prompt a player for an AoO, and would request my players try to avoid some of the more reactionary classes/abilities in the interest of maintaining game flow.
But, 2e is different. Many classes have some sort of key reaction ability. Plus, reactions are an integral part of the game's rich tactical foundation. At the same time, I think it would be frustrating to have to frequently retcon lengthy posts because a reaction undoes some or all of the actions made in a post.
So, what has been working in your games?

Woot! My favorite podcast is now covering my two favorite APs!
Good luck in this new undertaking! I cannot wait to give it a listen!
Well, that sucks.
Since the company sold us on false goods ("the base set will be compatible with future adventure paths"), I really hope they loosen their restrictions on fan created content.
I know that previously Paizo specifically stated that it was illegal to adapt existing rpg adventure paths into pacg adventure paths.
Now that the game is dead, is it acceptable for us to now adapt rpg adventure paths?
What is a good place to post maps? I can't get rpgmapshare to work.
Thebazilly wrote: Curse of the Crimson Throne prominently features a Blue dragon. But there's also a Black dragon in a boss fight in one of the later books. It has been a long time since I have read it, but I think there is an umbral dragon in this one as well.
I don't even drink and I love this show! To my mind, this is easily the best Pathfinder podcast out right now.
Congratulations!

The humble bundle that is about to expire is an awesome deal, but I already have pdfs of many of the titles offered. Is it possible to give the codes for some of the books to a friend, while keeping the rest for myself?
How long do they usually take to activate an account? I submitted a username a couple of weeks ago and instantly received a follow up email that said I had be approved. I haven't heard from them since, and I cannot find an email to contact them further.
Curse of the Crimson Throne is pretty humanoid intensive as well.

I want another horror AP. I would prefer gothic/classic horror, but would still be pleased with cosmic horror.
Why not Zon-Kuthon? Some of his worshippers are cheerful (like Laori Vaus). He even has ties to the outer reaches of the cosmos.
James Jacobs wrote: Just popping in to say a "Disney Princess AP," as an elevator pitch for a campaign, is rad.
We could absolutely do this.
And it's not like so many of the stories Disney made movies out of are their stories. All of Grimms' Fairy Tales are in the public domain.
This is pretty much how I view Jade Regent.
I know I am late to the party, but I do have a thought on the Goblin PC issue.
In Curse of the Crimson Throne, almost all of the adversaries are human. Yet, no one would ever suggest not allowing Human PCs for that Adventure Path.
If I recall (and it has been a long time since I read any of the Rise of the Runelords books), there is a tribe of Goblins indigenous to Sandpoint. They dig through the trash at the dump or something like that. Couldn't you just say that none of the goblins involved in the hostilities come from that tribe, which could be the starting ground for the PC?
1) I accidentally subscribed to the stand-alone Pathfinder 2e adventures. I do not want to do this, as I am quite happy with the amazing amount of content I get with my Adventure Path subscription. Is it possible to drop the subscription and the copy of Fall of Plaguestone that comes with it?
I know how I made this mistake. After selecting the six PDFs for War for the Crown series, I checked my inbox. Then, on a whim, I looked at a couple of additional subscriptions. Apparently, I accidentally clicked on a button to initiate the new subscription, then returned to the order. The screen still only held the total value of the 6 Adventure Path PDFs, so I clicked on Place Order.
2) Also, I have Legacy Paizo Advantage. Should that stack with the 25% discount that expires this evening? I do not think it did, as it looks like I only got a 30% discount on the 6 War for the Crown PDFs.
Does this stack with the discount we receive for being a subscriber?
