Band of Badgers live stream presents Rise of the Runelords icons over art of Pathfinder goblins pillaging a village

The latest weekly live stream campaign from Band of Badgers explores the world of Golarion from the time of ‘Rise of the Runelords’ as the band of heroes start their journey across the lands of Varisia and beyond. They will be facing goblin raids, a cult of serial killers, fight backwoods ogres, stop an advancing army of stone giants, delve into ancient dungeons, and finally face off against a wizard-king in his ancient mountaintop city.

Gamemaster Dave Kingsman has explained “I’m introducing new players to this fantastic landscape of imagination with one of the greatest stories of adventure and exploration and I am honoured to be the one to guide them through on their first steps into this truly legendary campaign. To do this I’ll be taking the original 1st edition adventure path and converting it into Pathfinder Second Edition.”

Band of Badgers has also garnered the attention of none other than Beadle & Grimm’s, now a licensed Paizo partner, and will be bringing new products to the world of Pathfinder, starting with a Kickstarter to launch a collection of brand new character class journals complete with the Beadle & Grimm’s touch.

You can find this epic campaign on Twitch.tv/bandofbadgers every Thursday from 9 p.m. UK time (simultaneously on Twitch.tv/officialpaizo at 1 p.m. Pacific) and if you join in live you can expect to find giveaways, interactive chat, and a chance to join the band. If you miss it fear not! Videos will be uploaded to YouTube within seven days.

The campaign will launch this Thursday the 27th of August – So ask yourself, when evil rises, are you brave enough to join the band?

Sounds fun! And if that 2E conversion of Rise of the Runelords ever gets published in some form, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

I would love to switch editions but am "stuck" in the Adventure Path for the foreseeable future so a conversion would be the perfect way to go.

As we don't have any current plans to convert Rise of the Runelords to Pathfinder Second Edition we are thrilled that Band of Badgers is doing so. I foresee a roundtable of guest GMs at a future Paizo Con sharing their conversion stories for us all to learn best practices.

Ok. Nice. I was hoping they converted it. Having GMed part of it for PF1 and really wanting to GM it for PF2 (along with the rest of the trilogy), I'm very stoked about this!!

This sounds bomb!

I wonder if the gobbos will be more nuanced given all the great material we’ve seen since 2e was released or if it’s going to play like a Spielberg movie, again?

I’m 100% in, either way.

Band of Badgers plans to upload each episode to their YouTube Channel within a week.

Can BoB publish and sell the conversion to 2e?

Can they at least post up their conversion material on the forums?

I bought the pocket edition and I would absolutely love to run it for 2E.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Not without jumping through more legal hoops than would be practical.

The "Rise of the Runelords" adventure path is Paizo's intellectual property; BoB can't just go ahead and sell copies of it, any more than you could sell copies of a book that you had bought (even if you'd translated it into a different language).

Bob could publish copies of their conversion material. So they could explain what they changed (skill checks, monsters, etc.). But there are limitations. A major one concerns artwork. In general, you can't use any of the artwork, be it from the adventure path, a bestiary, or anywhere. An exception is artwork that has been published in a Paizo blog. That can be used, but only under the conditions imposed by the Community Use policy. In particular, it says you can't charge for it.

Obviously this isn't a 100% "No" - Paizo obviously came to some agreement vis a vis "Kingmaker", where the hardback adventure path is available for both 1e and 2e variants of Pathfinder, and even for another rules system. But I wouldn't consider it likely that anything similar would happen here.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd be happy with simple notes on their conversion. Something I can use with my 1E copy.

Also... writing conversions just for you when you GM it, and writing them with sharing them publicly in mind is completely different. It’s a lot more work making your notes « readable » for random people, and when converting, you’ll usually ignore the parts you know your players will skip, or adapt some parts for your players. Making sure your conversion stays relevant for a large number of groups like the original product is more work. And that’s without thinking of the probable changes they will put in to adapt it better for a stream...
But I know some people that did a conversion of this AP... And they tried to make it shareable... I wonder how much they managed to convert.
