Does any class have both sneak attack(or similar) and medium armor?

Trying to find an option for a friend with a character unwilling to spend the feat for medium armor.

Closest I can think of if the old 3.0/5 alternate fighter called Thug with sneak attack instead of bonus feats.

Sources from Pathfinder 1st Ed and D&D 3.0/5 all welcome.

Thank you.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get Linux the bard To use her crossbow again.early on she shot a few times. Then after telling her to use a spell, she never lets me attack with the crossbow ever again. Cannot usr a short sword either, the only standard actions I can take with her are spells. It has been going on for over 3,000 experience points already!

I was recently watching a video on youtube of evil clown pranks. A friend joked and said in a creepy voice "Come play in the woods!" I laughed out loud and thought it would be a funny encounter when my players exit the woods on their next game or two. Any suggestions?

Dark Archive

I may begin a new campaign tomorrow, I might be playing a Lizardfolk. I will definitely play a ACG shaman with a spirit familiar. I found a familiar archetype I am interested in that requires worship of one one God. I'm now wondering if reptiles in general have commonly worshiped gods. It does not have to be specific to Lizardfolk. My familiar spirit ability will be from the stone spirit so it would be cool to get something related to that. I already know some Nagaji revere Nagas, I might even try playing something like a half breed Nagaji blooded Lizardfolk.

Dark Archive

I thought it might be fun to emphasize being a reptile character. Part of the plan is being at least dubious, if not outright disdainful of mammals. As such, I am looking for more thematic choices for animals that I adventure with. I noticed Pathfinder seems to have reptile humanoids, but lists lizards and dinosaurs as animals instead of as reptiles.

My plan is to take almost exclusively levels of Shaman. I really want to play the Shaman class. I know some would suggest I do a Druid  instead but while I respect that class, I don't want to play one. I also want to take one level of either Fighter, Cavalier, or another class(down to archetypes now I think) with both martial weapons(I am definitely going to use a reach weapon) and heavy armor proficiencies . I might be persuaded to take the boon companion feat to go with one level of Cavalier. That feat might matter early on, but since
this is for an AP, it will not matter for long.

My character will likely be a Lizardfolk, but with some alterations. I'm trying to use the race builder to swap the claws for something else. Maybe a stronger bite, or poison from saying he is half Lizardfolk & half Nagaji. Also happy for any advice there. I also plan to swap the swimmer trait for the climber trait. Another player will be a swimmer Lizardfolk, so I thought it would be Funny to instead play a climber and then we can roleplay back and forth about is life is harder in the swamp or an arid environment.

So I am looking for reptiles to serve as either a spirit animal for the Shaman and/or a mount, even if not as a Cavalier mount, some sort of mount down the road.

I saw some of the dinosaurs and lizards came close to fitting the bill but nothing that seems ready to propose to the GM as a suitable Cavalier mount. I also don't want the lizard that is too small to threaten on his own. I really like the goat and dodo bird since they can threaten instead of having a zero reach. Any suggestions?

Dark Archive

I am hoping to get one of my CO players to join me in a running gag of Roleplaying for our upcoming campaign.

I and another player are both going to play Lizardfolk. I thought it would be fun if one of us played the standard swimmer type, while the other played the variant climber. Then we could bicker back and forth about how life is harder in the swamp or in the desert.

Even if the other Lizardfolk does not want to play along, maybe I can get the Hydro Kinetisist to play along with the swamp role. Or the other player, I know nothing about his character yet.

Without much time to dig in yet, but a clock ticking on my first game soon, I am wondering if the rulebfor precise shot is removed? Maybe it was renamed? Maybe the anticipation of prevalent use of guns resulted in a rules system a bit more forgiving to ranged combat? How about cover?

I wanted to ask for advice on how to build a PFS Tiefling charcter. I have an old character from a prior year when anyone could build a tiefling without a cert. For years, the character's first 2 chronicles from GM credit and a pre gen play just gathered dust because there wasn't a race/class combo that excited me back then. I hope requesting advice now with any more class options available will present an option I would be excited to play. By the way, I own legitimate PDF's of both the ARG & Blood of Fiends softcover book specializing in Tiefling options so any PFS legal content within those is fair game. I have a legitimate PDF of all the hard covers until Horror adventures, I might get the newer hardcovers soon, PDF's at least. I do not have many soft covers(or PDF) but do not rule out getting another 1 or 2 for a character in PDF.

I have a preference for high strength builds on 3/4 BAB casters and am even open to multi classing. I am very open to trying something different. The only request that I have is that no individual class have more than 1 archetype.

I hope someone in the group is passionate about tieflings and gets some fun sharing their knowledge of such.

THANKS!

Were elephants always banned or does anyone have stories about how they they became bsnned?

Guessing they were too cheap gp wise for a creature with their stats or their 3by3 size were thought to be such a problem for many indoor maps that they were always considered too problematic? Guess the one combat animal rule for pfs is also an issue.

Are tigers legal for purchase these days?

Anything better than a riding dog, warhorse or riding lizard recomended as a combat animal. Not just a mount but a viabke combat animal worth buying and bringing along for fights? Even if thought of as a consumable since I doubt most would last more than one or two combats, especially the higher level the adventure?

A few of my fellow card/board gaming friends said they would be willing to try playing pathfinder for a few nights, ONLY a FEW nights. They would really like to be agents working for House Thrune or at least to uphold the laws of Cheliax and help keep House Thrune in power.

They don't want to devote too many nights to such a game so the APs would be too long. I don't wat to just run the first book of an AP either.

I am hoping to run it at level 3 but am very willibg to run a different adventure powered up or down for 3rd level PCs.

Any advice on what adventure to pick?

So far by best guess is to do the old 3.5 adventure Tower of the Last Barron but rewrite it as coming in on the side of getti g the tower to support Cheliax instead of Andoran.

I still have time to be advised and influenced before my next campaign, Wrath of the Righteous begins this weekend.

GM already approved a Crusader from the Book of Nine Swords, a product from 3.5 D&D. He told other players he was going to leave behind 3.5 stuff, but he felt I did a good job not getting crazy playing a Sword Sage from the same book in out last campaign, so he gave me a thumbs up for the Crusader. Maybe because he already told me I could play one before deciding to otherwise leave 3.5 behind. I suspect other 3.5 material will be unlikely.

We all begin at "5th" level with 2 negative levels we cannot get rid of before playing. Standard wealth by level for 5th level. We have a 20 point buy. I am still flexible on the exact stats and will likely decide their final numbers, only after determining if I decide to primarily fight With a two handed weapon or one handed weapon. I am highly opposed to to a high dexterity build though. I plan on a 12 dex in full plate or 13 for dodge.

I was thinking about what feats to take and felt some of them, while staples from my past, are a little boring, most just adding a +1 to die rolls. I also don't recall the name of one I recently heard about that interests me. It was printed in one of the soft cover books within the last few years, it allows use of a buckler with 2 handed weapons. So I am asking for advice on what feats to take. Below are the feats I already had in mind, I am still flexible on them.
-
Weapon focus(advice for weapons to pick also welcome), shield focus, dodge, toughness, “buckler with two handed weapon,” godless healing if adapting the class from religious to regional, combat reflexes if I concentrate on a reach weapon

From Bo9S: vital recovery(worried it might not work with high AC and Crusader maneuver recharge mechanic), extra granted maneuver, sudden recovery

Any more feats you can recommend? I am not glued to a one handed or two handed weapon yet. I will refuse to do two weapon fighting and highly doubtful of bothering with dexterity based fighting/AC.

I just thought that maybe amateur swashbuckler with reposte might be interesting, and maybe the only way I could justify some points in charisma that I otherwise thought about dumping, even at the cost of a class feature and reduction in benefit of another class feature.

Now I am wondering about checking the current crane wing feat, I doubt I would want to give up the AC boost of a magic shield but I am at least open to considering it.

I am also interested in maybe making one or more adaptations. Please share your feedback on such:

Changing from a religious theme to a regional them, as suggested within Bo9S itself

Swapping out the class feature of charisma bonus to will saves for instead fighters bravery(DM said he was making fear effects more powerful in his campaign and even paladins are not immune). Or something, anything else, I am really tempted to dump charisma so anything not relying on Charisma would be a better option. Maybe once a day, I can reroll a will save?

Boosting their will power saves to a good category, same as how Paladins went from poor to good will save progression from 3.0/5 to PF.

Should I use the smite as written in the Bo9S or as written in PF?

Thank you to anyone willing to offer feedback!

Before I discuss this with my GM, I am asking if anyone is familiar with something I may be over looking. My understanding is that a PC or NPC will not block line of sight or line of effect. For example, people can shoot through cover. Even if you count a body as a solid barrier, later in the rules, it mentions that an opening 1 square foot is enough to target through a wall. Are we suppose to abstract that the body takes up the entire 5’ square? I understand that sometimes, abstracting to 5’ cubes helps but when I can target through a window, I should be able to target between someone’s legs or to the side of their shoulder.

My GM keeps telling me I cannot see everyone on the field who I try to target. I could accept that if there was a mob of people, I might not be able to always target a specific person within that mob. That many people might prevent me from keeping the person in sight. What I believe is a problem is how he sometimes tells me I cannot see someone because there are only 2 or 3 people between them and myself, spread out over at least 15 feet, sometimes more space.

Thank you all for any feedback.

Highly considering the hex that grants craft wondrous items but unsure of what to build. As effective as they are, it also seems rather dull to just use it to save money on cloak of resistance, headband wisdom, whatever physical belt I end up choosing, pearls if power.

I was hoping people could recommend other items The shaman spell list & craft wondrous items can handle. Stuff beyond those core items might make the hex/feat choice seem more interesting. we are playing Crimson Thrown AP so I doubt we will find many items.outside the core rulebook in treasure. This is part if why I think taking the hex/feat can seem good to me, it would allow me to build items we would likly never find.

I need to fleshout 2 NPC henchmen. I want to give them an interesting combat feat they could take with a requirement above +1 bab. Already used.another pair for spring attack so looking for something else.

Open to other feats or even whole builds.

Requirements are
15 point buy
Human
3 levels of warrior, plus one level of any +1 bab class, could take that non warrior level at any level.
Will use a shield and 1 handed weapon.
Limit 4k gold but prefer as little as 1650

I am having a hard time finding adventures that do not consider the Cheliaxians as the opposition of the adventuring party. I want to run at least a few games that are pro Cheliax / House Thrune. I do not want to run APs because I have no belief that I could finish such a long story. I do not want to ruin an AP for other people, nor myself be starting and not finishing an AP.

I am open to level range but would prefer 3-6 level range to begin.

First thought is to maybe reuse old PFS games back fro.vthe faction mission days but those faction missions ate often such a small part of any individual scenario that I don't really count them as pro Cheliax / house Thrune.

Just out of curiosity, are any of the APs actually pro Cheliax current government of House Throne?

Thank all for any help.

Can I hold a charged spell/SLA and still make natural attacks with the other limb with out dischargin? l used the ability and held the charge away from anyone else. Next turn the only enemy in movent range already had the nasty, nonstakable SLA from another of the same creature. I thought it would be fare for the monster to move and just do a regular attack with the other limb of it's 2 natural attacks so it could save the charge on the other limb for when someone without the nasty effect came close to engage.

Some players questioned if it was.legitimate but did not actually argue. They accepted it at the time. Sadly, we had to end the combat in the middle of the fight so I am hoping to have a confident answer if this was fair or not.

Way I see it, if a druid has a produce flame in one hand and a scimitar in the other, they should be able to choose which they attack with each turn. Same for a magus with shocking grasp or a cleric with an inflict spell on one hand and a mace in the other hand.

At the same time, if t was something like a druid wild shaped into a wolf with only 1 attack and produce flame I would think the bite should discharge the spell(or one round of it for produce flame). Of course that begs the question if it should be able to bite without doing the fire damage?

Thanks!

I am soliciting advice for swapping classes and adding encounters to this adventure.

One example was the evil bard with that hair useing prehensile hair witch/magus hex.

Happy to see more suggestions. Feel free to use not just PF but also old 3.5 stuff. I think I will be useing some Book or 9 Swords and some Psionics for example.

This could be taken as an insult but maybe with the right set up, it could be taken as a joke.

I don't know what types of items appeal to different companions yet. Haven't even played one session yet, but I had the idea for Ameiko since Rise of the Rulelords #1 Saud she had a never ending supply of eccentric hairstyles. I thought about buying hair curlers for all the Female companions/party members (different sized if they already had them), and mustash wax for all the guys also.

When giving it to Shalelu, I could make sure to tell hell, "Hey, I'm not trying to make fun if you, if I was, I would say this in public. That's why I am telling you privately now. I almost didn't buy a set of hair curlers for you. I thought if you wanted curly hair, all you would have to do is twirl it around your ears!"

Bestiary page 295, young creature
The rebuild rules say to decrease size. Normally, a size change to smaller would mean a -2 str and +2 dex.
Later, it says ability scores -4 str/con, +4 dex.

Are the str/dex scores adjusted each time for a total of -6str/+6dex? Or are the +/-4 ability score adjustments meant to already include the size modifier?

I think the size being made smaller is strictly in reference to how many squares it takes because young creatures also mention to decrease damage dice, something that is also effected by size changes.

Thanks

I cannot find a definition of mindless in the rules(except for the 3.5 Miniatures handbook, even that is more about the skirmish game rather than the RPG).

I am trying to figure out how undead andconstructs fight. Specifically undead from either animate undead and/or controll undead.

I found that mindless creatures are immune to mind effecting stuff like color spray, but nothing about how able or limited they are.

When I look up Intelligence, it says a creature with 0 int is comatose but mindless don't have 0Int, they have --Int

By the way, I suggest you never allow players to do such, it has absolutely ruined my game, but as it us only one module before the campaign is over, I am going to stick through it. Controlling four hit dice of undead per caster level is ridiculous with how much action economy the player can have, even on "weak" undead who lose supernatural and class abilities. In the case of this spell, quantity often outdoes quality..

Dark Archive

Looking for options beyond:
Iron will
Extra hit dice
Cloak of resistance

I am very open to 3.5 material! Skeptical but still willing to.look at 3rd pp material. Please include the sour ebook if you recall it.

Think there us at least one trait based on religion. Hoping to find another trait also.

If my players see this, don't worry. You are both OK in my book, and I want you to finish our short Conquest of the Bloodsworn Vale mini campaign with your characters. I will not have to deal with your characters beyond this mini campaign. Just looking for ways to make things better till then. Both of you are welcome at my next campaign.

I have an oracle of bones player but I guess this thread can be useful for DMs with necromancers, undead lord clerics, ext.

It may be helpful to also mention another huge factor in my mini campaign is
another player useing a sorcerer with 2 level dip of oracle for the blasted heavens mystery of awesome display revelation on her color spray x 14/day. So far, many of the enemies are totally trivialized by this, save the plant creatures I though in. I don't mind it so much because she will encounter better will save enemies in the future along with other fair challenges for her. Throwing undead against her is not a good answer given the oracle of bones.

I am looking for advice on how to better handle what I feel has become problematic.
Concerns:
-Too many actions/undead minions
-Free action economy to tell undead what to do, even if directing different instructions to several minions
-shield wall of minions (also many terrain bushes/trees make it hard to engage via ranged attacks) or even get close to engage with melee. Think I need to begin placing PCs closer to the enemy from now on
-free 0gp minions, usually, this spell has expensive material components but through the use of the blood money spell, that cost is now a joke. Yes, there is still a cost, the precious few known spells, also a joke cost given how good it is, especially for an undead making and employing pc. I need to get my hands in the source book and try to figure out what Paizo had in mind when releasing it, the players source of just the PFd20.com site or whatever it is accurately spelled as, is not sufficient.

One piece of advice I want to share now is that you should not let PCs keep the equipment of those they slay and animate unless that gear is paid for out of the money the PC would have had to equip themself.

Also, I think when animating undead, you only get racial hit dice, not class levels. So animating a bugbear(3 racial hitdice) 6th level ranger only gives you a 3 hd undead. Thus is especially useful to help try to challenge that awesome display color spray.

I can no longer find the name of a trait I took long ago for perception as a class skill. I began filling out a new character sheet as my old one is pretty worn out from nearly eight levels of play over more than two years and when I was copying info, all I could find on the old one was "perception" listed in the space for traits. Now I am wondering if I heard someone else mention it from a book I had not yet picked up because I either missed it or it is in something I do not own or have loaned out and cannot currently find it. If I understand correctly, I think there are several perception traits but most are linked to an ap and have minor changes to them. So I am looking for all legal for society traits with perception as a class skill. Thank you.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am having trouble signing up for games because the scenario blurbs and product pages do not clearly state which factions are related to each scenario.

For example, 5-03 seems to imply both Cheliax since it mentions Hellknights in the title and silver. Crusade since it mentions them and their faction leader. Who would be the third? Are.my first wo guesses even correct?

Having to go Search through old email that we.never have gotten in the first place if new to the society or a particular faction is not the best solution. We might not even have.such an email anymore. Please make a.sticky where we can.easily and quickly look up what matches up.

Lastly, I want to e,press my dislike for.this season's faction mission style. I feel like I have to. Choose between advancing my faction and having to play that fa tion regardless of class & level of other party members or forget about.advancing my preferred factions and just go with. Class/level of other party members in an effort to present a more role balanced party. People are sorely mistaken if they think it is easy to wAit for another running of a given scenario when your PC of those factions are in the right level range.

Thank you for your consideration.

So should a player useing this spell be allowed to choose the specific actions of the undead? If so, is there a line on what is fair compared to too much?
examples:
choosing which target to attack
moving into flank
useing combat maneuvers
Utilizing full defense or defensive fighting
5 foot stepping to block a charge?

I have a hard time figuring out what the undead's lack intelligence would prohibit it from. It does have a wisdom of 10.

I am not going to prohibit the use of the spell, the player _WILL_ be allowed to continue to use the spell. Please save suggestions of prohibiting the spell for other threads. This campaign is not about being a hero and the ethics involed, it is about getting a job done.

Animate dead
School necromancy [evil]; Level cleric 3, sorcerer/wizard 4
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (an onyx gem worth at least 25 gp per Hit Die of the undead)
Range touch
Targets one or more corpses touched
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
This spell turns corpses into undead skeletons or zombies that obey your spoken commands.

The undead can be made to follow you, or they can be made to remain in an area and attack any creature (or just a specific kind of creature) entering the place. They remain animated until they are destroyed. A destroyed skeleton or zombie can't be animated again.

Regardless of the type of undead you create with this spell, you can't create more HD of undead than twice your caster level with a single casting of animate dead. The desecrate spell doubles this limit.

The undead you create remain under your control indefinitely. No matter how many times you use this spell, however, you can control only 4 HD worth of undead creatures per caster level. If you exceed this number, all the newly created creatures fall under your control, and any excess undead from previous castings become uncontrolled. You choose which creatures are released. Undead you control through the Command Undead feat do not count toward this limit.

Skeletons: A skeleton can be created only from a mostly intact corpse or skeleton. The corpse must have bones. If a skeleton is made from a corpse, the flesh falls off the bones.

Zombies: A zombie can be created only from a mostly intact corpse. The corpse must be that of a creature with a physical anatomy.

After seeing so any complaints about game balance and how other classes are so much better than fighters or rogues, I wonder if the real point of these classes is just to provide an entry point for new players.

I understand plenty of people enjoy all the homework of analyzing all the feats, archetypes, equipment, etc. There is plenty for people who want to, to.dig in and research, compare and. contrast. On the other hand, are they not the simplest or in the top three simplest classes for a.new player to pick up?

Sure, they are great to fill the role of warrior(with many varieties) or scoundrel, but I still cannot wonder if they are designed to be easy entry points meant for new players.

I do not feel every class needs to be perfectly balanced. I would dread how similar and non exciting things would be if everything was balanced.

Anyone recall seeing the designers/developers ever say this or something similar?

Running a game this week. I like the idea of collecting some secrete rolls from the players before the adventure begins, especially the knowledge, sense motive, and willpower saves. These sort of rolls are not always good for everyone at the table to know are being thrown around. Think of how bad the meta gaming gets when a sense motive roll is asked for. What worries me is that if a player has a reroll, shouldn't they be allowed to know what type of roll it is before deciding to use that reroll? I would expect to know what I was rolling for when I have a re roll available. So should I just not ask the players to write down a few rolls on a chart for me before the game so I can reference it at the right time. Advice?

Best case, my willingness to try something different leads to new fun.
Middle case, I rebuild using level one rules.
Worst case, I lose a few scenarios to a pc I decide to never play again.

I only want to make a lantern lodge pc for their trait called Weapon Style(page 16 of the V.4.3 Organized Play Guide) granting proficiency in a monk weapon. Any suggestions and explanations why that weapon is so good will be very appreciated. I may be way out off on this but the campaign coordinator for society play said he may remove one or more factions from the campaign, so I want to grab this while it is still available. It may not get grandfathered in, but I want to try.

Also, does the faction have specific skills that are common in their faction missions or classes that tend to work very well or poorly for that faction? I am not fond of the monk, ninja, samurai classes so I am more interested in learning if any class is particularly poor for the faction. I want to stress my dislike for the mentioned classes is strictly based on not enjoying them mechanically wise, I am NOT one of those people who wine about eastern themes in those people's western themed campaigns.

Thanks all.

While reading a thread about player entitlement on choosing magic items, I began to wonder how strongly my believe that players should have the freedom to choose what they want for characters, especially magic items within reason(WBL guidelines), has been influenced by my playing of Magic: the Gathering. I thought it might be nice to explore how M:tG has influenced my feeling for both D&D 3.0/.5 and Pathfinder. I would not mind others posting other sources that influence their feelings on the game as well.

I played one game of D&D(2nd Ed back in 1995), not a campaign, a single game before playing M:tG. The inability to ever get a group together and stick together led me to play so many more games of M:tG before finally regularly playing D&D. I read and loved 2nd Ed products for years but never really had the chance to play. Finally, by the time I got a chance to play regularly, 3.0 was out and I had a very keen feel for being able to customize what I play.

With M:tG, I not only choose just a red or white deck, I even get to choose which specific direct damage spells to play, same goes with what variant of disenchant or the many types of counter spells. I can even choose different stratergies of deck within the same color or combination of colors. I guess these are largely responsible for why I expect the freedom to choose what I want(within reason). Weather that be class, feats, spells, skills, race(level adjustment races are NOT within reason), and especially equipment. The choice of deck archetypes coincides with classes. My distaste for type 2 and great pleasure for type one where cards from any set are allowed, strongly reinforce my desire to play old classes and subsystems instead of being restricted to a type 2 of only Paizo written material. In M:tG, I even have a sideboard I can use to customize against an opponent? I could deviate from a respected character build to handle campaign specific problems like low treasure, seaborn campaigns, or knowing the group does not have a cleric, so maybe I take the feat Godless Healing and buy a wand of CLW for the ranger to activate on me.

I eventually bought several of the very expensive cards since I wanted them for tournaments. Before that, I still played what I wanted via proxy cards of photocopies or computer printouts. The PRD and other _LEGAL_ Internet resources can arguably make playing what you want in RPGs even easier than what I did in casual M:tG games with proxies. Thus, I do not feel that real world cost has much to do with this. Sure, not everyone has a tablet with an app or a portable Internet connection where ever they go, for myself at least, I am covered as long as my stuff does not break, or get lost or stolen. Even if the bad stuff does happen, I bought several of the Paizo hardbacks before transitioning to PDFs and I still have my 3.5 library.

How have all of you been influenced in how you play by TCGs or other sources.

I am curious about MMOs in particular. Can you buy what you want or do you have to go on specific quests? Do you look up what each quest has and not bother if it's items are not right for that particular character play through? Are they at the mercy of random drops, or are those "random" drops at least somewhat customized based on what class opens the chest?

Just found out about the new prices. I found a thread that would have been good to place this in but it was locked from new posts.

The refund for the Amulet of Mighty Fists is not for Monks only is it? I don't play a monk but would love the 4K refund on my +1 attack & 1d6 acid damage amulet.

Also, can anyone confirm, does the amulet, if at least +1, bypass DR magic? Not everyone who bought this is a monk with ki strike magic or may have taken less than 4 levels in it. What about an amulet +3, does that bypass DR cold iron/silver like a +3 weapon? Same for the +4/5 working in whatever the adamantine/alignment magic weapon DR penetrations work?

I understand Paladin is a no. I suspect any heavy armor class, maybe even medium armor class would be a no since I would fear drowning in the water. Am I being over paranoid about such?

Please feel free to comment on more than Paizo classes but to add 3.5 splat book and especially alternate power source classes as well. I would actually rather play one of these oldie but goody classes.

I already have an invitation to the AP when a group I am friends with finish their current campaign in about a month.

Maybe this would fit in the conversion board just as easily but my gut told me this was better for house rules. I am not really looking to fully convert. I am more interested at looking at precedent as a possible solution to the ever too common complaint that the casters overshadow the martials.

What do y'all think. Maybe the way to make the full BAB classes respectable past the first few levels is to take all those 3/4 BAB classes and return them to the scale they fought on back in 2nd Ed THAC0 values. Back then, Clerics only had a progression of 2/3, Rogues only 1/2 and Wizards a mere 1/3. Maybe if only the full BAB classes could reliably hit things, they may get a little bit more respect.

By the way, it work even worse than something like
2/3 example
1 = no bonus
2= +1
3=+2
4=+2
5=+3
It was something like, you had to advance three levels(meaning you are now level 4) and then you would knock off both of your 2/3 at the same time.

I would still use the +1 at a time method of 3.5 but it would surly dent how reliable any less then full BAB class fought. Well maybe not wizards and sorcerers, they do use touch attacks for their spells.

Classes like the magus and inquisitor with their slower caster progression may still be worth the 3/4 BAB.

How about bring the rogue back down to d6 HP and the ranger back to d8, both like in 3.5? At first(3.0), Iliked how the classes got a little boosted, though a little taken aback that the rogue jumped twice on the scale compared to the cleric only once. Maybe this would really make the full BAB classes have a chance to shine.

I understand it would also slow down combat, monsters would get more chances to injure the players. That would strengthen how much more valuable those d10HD of the fighter and paladin are.

I also understand things like the much less xp the rogue/thief needed to advance in level compared to the other classes in 2nd Ed would also make this more harsh on them than other classes. Anyone got a suggestion for making it less harsh? Other than refusing to implement it at all? Maybe the rogue gets to level up on the fast track xp scale for the first 2 or 3 levels. With three xp advancement scales, that gives some options to work with. Though that might make the low level arcanists too hard to play early. It could also encourage multiclassing easy and or cheap classes early and later going for the casters.

I look forward to my fellow grognards and fat beards coming out of the woodwork to lament the old days of THAC0:) or encourage the days of making PCs earn their levels rather than serving them on silver platters:)

I had a great laugh while interacting with Davison and Antler in Fallout New Vegas. Makes me want to try playing a crazy PC myself.

Two ideas of my own so far.
1-A summoner who does not know he can command the eidolon.
2-Another summoner with an Eidolon who thinks he has a Eidolon or familiar of his own. Maybe the eidolon in this case cannot cope with having his own, int, wis, cha but being forced to do as his master says, to cope, he imagines he has his own slave/servant/whipping boy. Then he(the real eidolon) does everything to teach the nonexistent eidolon/familiar how to do things. I would think it would be both funny and scary to see an eidolon who talks to his own imaginary eidolon/familiar. Than the summoner can try to get the eidolon to teach him how to do the evolution that makes the second generation follower invisible. Maybe he plays along with the dilution fearful of the eidolon establishing independence or just humors him.

This exercise also reminds me of a time when I wanted to join a group but new I would not be on time due to tournaments I played the same day in the late afternoon. I had the idea of a PC with a split personality or schizophrenia. The character could be an NPC when I was not yet their. When I showed up, a psychotic break would occur and my designed PC would come into play. Something like when the terror got too much for him, a new personality would emerge as a protector or a survivalist.

I guess other ideas ripe for exploitation would be both the alchemists mutagen or a barbarian rage, or when both of those interact at the same time. Alc/Bbn may seem like an odd multi class but I am very happy with how I made it work.

Any more ideas from anyone?

It seems to me that I might have made a mistake thinking that I could have my summoner recharge the staff of fire I bought before they were banned from buying. If my concern is correct, I presume I can sell the item back for full price? Even if I used a few charges and am unable to recharge it myself, it could still be recharged. What about getting a fellow player at the table to spend unused spells at the end of the game to do it?

So I bought a staff of fire after seeing it had the spell wall of fire. That spell is usually a level four spell for wizards but it is level three spell for summoners. I thought I could use my spell list to recharge it at first but after seeing it is a level three for summoners and seeing staves must be recharged with the strongest spell, I am second guessing if a summoner can do so with a staff of fire?

I understand why I do not have long lasting campaigns. I am to anal about the rules for most people to enjoy the game. What surprises me is how often I hear other groups do not finish their campaign. This makes me curious as to how often an adventure path does play through to completion. Sometimes I wonder if they are too long.

Do any of them have reputations for groups sticking through to the end or breaking apart before the end?

I suspect the vast majority campaigns among adults break up thanks to real life getting in the way. No need to point that out.

Some of my friends made it to the con for another game, Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, but I had to stay behind this year. Anything for free up for grabs? I could ask them to keep an eye out for it and bring me a copy back?

Enjoy the con!

My DM said this was a permanent sex change. It seems to me the standard cursd item status can be removed with anyone of the following: remove curse/break enchantment/ greater dispel magic. The standard item and the status it creates seems to work until one of those methods is used. Carrying from scenario to scenario. Is the cursed item a special version that can never be turned off and removed? The standard item says once the change has been made, it can be removed without effort.this would mean that I could take it off(still remain changed) and throw on another belt, or my eidolon can as I actually want.

When we pay for a remove curse/break enchantment/greater dispel using prestige, it only covers one casting right? Then they have to make a caster level check to see if it is gotten rid of right? Just like paying gold for spell casting services. I suspect those npc spell casters need to do a caster level check. Or does the use of prestige ensure your faction keeps trying until they succeed(without having to pay prestige over and over).

I have a case of wanting to remove a cursed item. I think I may prefer to spend gold over and over to get rid of it. But if prestige auto succeeds, then that would be one good use of prestige.

Is there any way to buy such spell casting at a higher level than the minimum level to cast the spell in question? Having to buy scrolls at minimum caster level leads me to think no. I don't like the idea of rolling a poor% chance per casting. I would much rather pay extra for a high level caster and be sure to get rid of it or at least have a much better chance.

I have a PC at level 11 with 1 xp past marking level 11 or level 11&1/3 if you prefer.

May this sort of pc play a mod worth 3xp to get to retirement and just sac that last xp? Or would I be prohibited from playing it at all? Or should that third xp carry over into retirement? I already chose to play level 11 at full xp and got such for that first and thus far only xp after making level 11, so I cannot just take half xp now.

I figure someone would complain I got a little extra treasure by sort of playing 1 round extra. I'm sure others would complain that I could be ahead of others in the retirement arc.

Thanks.

Society players know this issue best. We are the ones spending days at cons, three rounds on Saturday. That is why I asked in the Society messageboard.

I am trying to decide what to buy for reading paizo PDFs.

Anyone care to advise/warn what devices do it well or poor?

I wanted to buy a cheap netbook on black friday but they are not carried/advertised much anymore in stores and I do not want to make an online purchase for this item. When I checked netbooks out last night. They were both weaker and more expensive than when i looked them over several months ago. Crazy but that was the case. Maybe an effort by the store to make people want to spend even more for a laptop or tablet? I was leaning to a netbook because of their long battery life. Something that could last me most if not the whole day at a con with three slots. I have no worry about them being weaker than a laptop. Laptops are way too short on battery life and more expensive. Now I am leaning towards the Ipad2 but it is damn expensive itself. At least it has a long battery life unlike a laptop. Thinking the 7 inch screen on a nook or kindle fire may be too small. I also do not know how well they can increase text size and/or zoom on a paizo pdf.

I figure the savings on paizo PDFs are strong enough to payoff the cost of a cheap netbook or tablet in a short time. It would take too long to pay off an Ipad2. Even if I buy more than I expect and save maybe $150 a year that would take at least 4 years to pay off that Ipad2 after: black friday sales(shallow), tax, and presuming no accessories(which I doubt), plus the cost of rebuying PDFs of paper books I already own. Since I do not see myself using the Ipad2 for much beyond rpg PDFs, that makes the high cost hard to swallow. Still, I am getting tired of carrying the bulk and weight of all the paizo hard covers plus a few soft backs. Also, from the research and advice I have gotten so far, the Ipad does seem to be the best device for the job.

Thanks for any advice on any and all products people want to advise/warn on.

This is for a Pathfinder Society Organized Play pc. I have a feeling it would have been called out as more a rules question though and directed here, which it is. Being for the society, I should mention that in society play, bestiary feats are mostly banned unless specifically called out. Hence, multi weapon fighting does not apply. Actually glad about no multi weapon fighting cause I don't feel a -4 penalty to all attacks would make this worth doing.

I think there is a general rule somewhere that whenever attacking with a natural weapons in cunjunction with manufactured weapons, primary natural attacks at full bab and str damage get turned into secondary attacks at -5att and 1/2 str damage? Is this an actual general rule or just somthing added to a few special cases? Where is it?

So the suggested combo just seems too good to be true to me.

APG p.74 Beast Totem, Lessser

UM p. 17&18 Tentacle & Vestigal Arms x2

It just seems too good to be true that I could full attack at full bab with:
a 2-handed for 1&1/2 str damage(twice at bab+6)
still attack at full bab with 2 claws at full str damage
and even throw in a tentacle attack at full bab and full str damage.

Meanwhile,
APG p.75 Fiend Totem, lesser
mentions a gore attack at full bab & full str damage but also says that if used in conjunction with weapons, in that case, it is at -5att & 1/2 str damage.

Guessing Paizo failed to see Vestigal Arms and the Lesser Beast Totem or sorcerer bloodline claw attacks interacting and thought with both claws attacking, the player would have no hands left for attacking with weapons and failed to see the need to add the -5att & 1/2 damage to claw attacks that they predicted with the gore attack. RAW, claws have no such penalty. I suspect they don't list them due to them being written/published 1 or 2 years before Vestigal Arms.

I am looking for a rage power that can be taken at 2nd level of Bbn. This is standing out so much stronger than the other level 2 rage powers in my extra multi limbed build. Even if my original intention of so many extra limbs were to hold a shield, keep one free for grabbing and useing extracts, mutagen, potions or throwing bombs as needed and another limb to carry a freaquntly used wand and avoid the move action to get out, all while still useing a 2-handed weapon.

I thought bestiary feats were outright banned all together and tried to find the section listing such in the 4.0 guide but failed. Am I failing to find it? Was there a rule change? Are only PCs banned? Are animal companions and eidolons allowed to take feats from the bestiary?

i am confused about these enhancements. do we pay the prestige, hand our current one over and now it gets upgraded? some of the entries described the items appearence. do we get an extra wayfinder or is the one we need in the first place(p.63) cosmetically and game mechanically wise changed?

i love the jade one for example. it says it is crafted in tian xia, described in appearence and casts guidance instead of light.

would i spend the 2 prestige to acquire it as a second, separate wayfinder. or do i hand over the light wf and get back only one that has then lost the light ability?

could we put multiple enhancements on one? obviously some would make no sense like an admantine/bone combo. what abot a jade/trapped wayfinder?
