Just as a heads up I believe the number on the premaster version is PZO2109 and the new file is PZO12010-HC so if you download that first number I believe it is the older file. the file could just be moving throughout the system.

I think one thing DPR as a focus can generate is a feeling that if you're not at X DPR level then you're messing up/ playing it wrong etc, and I believe that's not the overall experience PF2e is trying to generate for players.

Look, there are games where DPR/DPS/etc matters a *LOT* but I think the damage to the social aspect (especially in places like society play) far outweighs the benefit of a focus on DPR/DPS as a community.

the funny thing is? You *can* do both in this space. Easily. but you have to be aware that folks are going to tell you DPR doesn't matter because if it does? things like "Optimal build paths" begin to matter, and that's not the vibe PF2e is going for.

I can understand the frustration, and the vibe of the community means a lot, and if the vibe is rejecting DPR/DPS as a metric for tracking class balance, etc? There might be a reason for that.

The issue w/ a PDF only subscription is that depending on how the FLGS' react? that could be an immediate detriment to their businesses and cause Paizo to get pushed out of stores. the subscriber benefit, as set up, allows a special loophole that says "Well they're purchasing directly from us anyway, who cares if they get the PDF a little early" I think that's the thing folks who want a PDF only subscription keep missing. There are FLGS factors that keep them from just offering that, and like it or not? game stores drive sales to people outside of the community. so keeping them on your good side is just smart business.

But building PF2 Mythic as a way to break the power ceiling will help with that. If I am joining a game and the table decides to use Mythic options, then I know what I am getting in to. And I will have the signposted options available in the feats and other options to know how to do it properly. Or I could decide that I don't want to play in a Mythic game because I prefer non-Mythic games. People will know that mixing Mythic and non-Mythic characters in the same game is going to go badly.

I have to say that I agree with this take. I don't see a way to balance Mythic VS Non-Mythic characters currently, so I largely Don't care that it's balanced, at least in the specific context of mythic play. It's sign posted, if I say "This game is going to be Mythic" then everyone should know to not expect everything to be balanced perfectly. It's the nature of mythic play.

As someone who hand converted most of Wrath of the Righteous to 2e (We changed the ending for our table)? I'm very excited to see what they do. Even if they use the more video game based paths rather than the more generic path names (I liked that better, personally)

Some thoughts that may not be popular:

I am thinking through a lot of things, and I am troubled by the concept of calling other forumites bigots. I can see calling out their actions or posts as bigoted, but... There has to be a better way. I can understand your stance of not wanting to let a bigoted post go unchallenged, though my personal mode is to flag and move on. I realize though that others feel differently, especially with so much hatred being posted. And hey, you're correct that I may be coming from a privileged enough background where I can see something nasty and just flag it and move on. I'll try to be better about being the advocate I want to be.

But in my mind, shouting back at someone and telling them they are a bigot just makes them shout back and then it's another flame war that makes everyone feel crappy and makes a lot of work for the mods.

So here is what I would suggest, and will try to get better at implementing. "Hey, I'm flagging this post. Paizo forums are for everyone, and this one makes some of our community feel unsafe." And then I would link to Heather's post, and stop.

Once this is posted, the conversation moves on and the troll is deprived of your outrage and passion. Nothing's feeding it, so less work for the mods.

I'm gonna say this and I hope people understand my words:

Not calling a thing what it is? that is allowing room for bigotry and fascism to grow. simple as that.

so any advocation, at all, of not calling bigots, bigots, is at best, being a racist collaborator. at worst, you're actively fueling the bigotry by allowing it to pass without harsh scrutiny.

So when I see this post, fellow freelancer or not? I see someone advocating for "softened language" and "No flame wars" or whatever? because said people aren't being banned immediately for their bigotted horse crap? I see someone capitulating to fascism and bigotry. that's it that's all.

this quote CONTINUES to be true.

"....I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great
stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate
who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace
which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods
of direct action'..."

I know my reply is a year and some change late (Had to take a break from some of the more negative aspects of these forums) but the reason why I would limit this feat to Divine casters is the nature of the original source material (i.e. Inq class ability) It doesn't naturally HAVE to be, but for the most part I thought limiting it to Divine Classes gives it a tiny bit of balance.

a lot of people were (at the time) complaining of "Munchkinism" but failing to see how say Pathfinder society is played. You're looking for the maximum bonus available, and in that vein, I've found that limiting it to Divine Casters gives those caster types more options when it comes to going earlier in combat.

I suppose it could be limited by race as well, in order to limit access to it better? Not sure.

Still..the math holds up. At similar levels, INQ's still win in the overall Init race, but this gives casters a "leg up" in order to make them more viable as combatants (as opposed to just sitting around waiting for damage and being "healbots")

Weables wrote:

That's irrelevant. When you make homebrew materials, you're supposed to compare to current pathfinder stuff to see if its balanced. If it's almost twice as good (as this can be) then it isn't. It's not rocket surgery.

If you're the DM, it's your call. Obviously coming in with a biased perspective, no ones going to simply convince you if you don't want to be convinced. I've outlined in reasonable terms why I feel its unbalanced compared to current options. I've given hard data showing this.

That's about all that can be done.

and it can be done by Inquisitors right NOW. so I kinda find this argument to be somewhat invalid.

*facepalm*

let's not play the "name calling" game? just because someone is looking for a similar (but lesser) tactical advantage doesn't make them a "power mongerer" or any such. calling anyone names (especially in a place for brain-storming like the homebrew section) is both anti-creativity, and just a little sad. If you disagree? I have no issue, calling someone a power mongerer because they might take a feat I'm getting my jollies putting together because i'm bored and can't sleep? kinda overkill, right? or am I wrong?

It's pretty munchkin in my opinion. it creates another dump stat for clerics and druids, as if you're a caster, your AC isnt gonna get high enough to matter anyways, your reflex save isnt fantastic to start with. The main reason to have dex in the first place is init. So you get to dump dex down to 7 or 8 now, have a 18-20 wis (for high save DCs on spells and such) and get a +6-7 initiative from a feat. makes it almost twice as good as improved initiative, and for that reason I'd not allow it.

Hmm..what's wrong with having a dump stat? everyone does it, and it's a significant strategy in almost every build I've ever seen. Also the "main" reason to have dex (i almost wrote sex..) is ranged combat (or finesse fighting)

why is it ok for fighters, rangers, paladins, cavaliers, samurai, and all other "fighty" classes to have dumpstats, but casters don't get to have one..?

Cheapy wrote:
Plus, wisdom is far more important to druids and clerics than Inquisitors, so between that and improved Initiative, they will blow past the inquisitor's initiative.

Maybe my math skills are deficient:

Dex Mod is say..2?
Wis Mod is say..3?
Improved Init is 4?

Inquisitor is 2+3+4=9

Cleric, Dr00d of the same level is perhaps: 4+4 = 8? (assuming one absolutely bumps the s$%@ out of their wis)

I fail to see how "blow past" is a possibility..

I was thinking about cunning initiative and how it can be made into a feat.

The Original is:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/grant-initiative wrote:
At 2nd level, an inquisitor adds her Wisdom modifier on initiative checks, in addition to her Dexterity modifier.

Insightful Initiative

Prerequisites: Wisdom 13+, able to cast level 1+ divine spells.

Benefit: At the start of each encounter, character replaces their dexterity bonus with their wisdom bonus for purposes of calculating initiative.

with this set up, you still have to be a divine caster, as well as have a positive initiative bonus, but it still allows Inquisitors to maintain their initiative superiority.

What do folks think?

Hey folks, in the tradition of skippy's list(google it), I've decided to create a list of things I'm not longer allowed to do in pathfinder, as generated by my various GM's. I'm not allowed to do these things under threat of death, torture, extreme tickling, and/or denial of cheesecake. So I stopped.

1. Create a monk who's "Flurry of blows" is attached to his unmentionable areas.
1a. especially when you crit someone with it.
1.b especially when that Someone is a dragon.

2. melt 20lbs of gold and rain it over the NPC's head while muttering something about "Golden Shower"
2b. Even if it's really really funny.

3. Ask for dates with characters that don't exist in Golarion, including but not limited to: Drizz't Do'Urden, Any of the Seven Sisters, Elminster, Wulfgar, Scrouge McDuck..

4. Intelligent magic items are never toys. Especially that kind of toy.

5. Have a character break down crying after critting a goblin with a morningstar and turning it into, as the gm described it, a fine paste.

6. Enya songs are not for battle.

7. Cradle of Filth songs scare the cleric.

8. use your selective channel to ignore Friendly PC's that have annoyed you that day.

9. use a wish spell to conjure the worlds largest anything, especially if it is pornographic in nature.

10. cut the wings off of an assimar, glue them on myself, and say "look, I'm Kid Icarus!" before tumbling off a cliff.

11. Play Lawful Anything.

What are some of the things you aren't allowed to do in Pathfinder?

Likes:
1. Fun imaginative world.
2. Interesting take on Fantasy RP
3. Samurai/Gunslinger/Ninja (Sorry, Euro-centric fantasy is boring as hell)
4. easily mod-able to 3.5 stuff (like Eberron!)
5. Magic level of the world is mod-able.
6. Interesting art, beautiful pictures.
7. Anthro-creatures as player races.
8. Ability to do the game MY way, and have fun with it.
9. Rogues get magic!
10. Magus. He owns.

Dislikes
1. Lazy players
2. Lazy Gm's
3. People who complain that they shouldn't have to house rule, when they still purchase the product and don't stop whining about it.
4. Primarily Euro-centric, with sprinkles of other cultures. (Needs more cultures!)
..Hmm..that's it.

Dragon Age: Reckoning

Across Golarion the signs are pointing to it. The Dragon below is stirring in his crypt. Twisted hordes of monsters, corrupted by its ichors have begun to appear on the surface of Golarion and the Blight is beginning. The races of man, dwarf, and fae must prepare for this coming storm.

What tales will they tell of your deeds when the Reckoning comes?

Dragon Age: Reckoning is a mix of Dragon Age Origins setting with the setting of Golarion, where the monsters (known as the Darkspawn) are massing for an invasion of epic proportions. This game will encompass Role-playing (Alliance building, Army Building), Combat, and even some Kingdom building in the face of the Darkspawn Horde.
Characters start @ level 3 and a backstory (of no more than a page or so)

We are using an array for ability scores of 17, 16, 15, 13, 12, 11
All classes/options from the PFPHB, and APG are legal.

The characters will be Grey Wardens, with abilities that will be revealed as the game continues that arise from the Grey Warden condition.

This game will run on Saturdays from 1-6pm Cst via Skype and either maptools or openrpg.

Is there any interest in a game like this?

Wrong again. I've personally witnessed a Katana cut through 6 inches of tank armor to kill the driver.

So, basically a dick shouldn't be allowed to play an RPG. I can get behind that, but how can we police and enforce it?

Almost had me until you got into the companion stuff. While I know I can ignore it (I think that's called a strawman) to me the value decreases a bit if I have to purchase each individual block of races from the companion(s). I honestly believe that Races, and a few feats shouldn't be all that expensive to add in, thus the pricing of it (more than Free) to me doesn't seem worth it.

To be completely fair, I tend to scratch/hiss at the idea of paid character generators anyway..but as a bit of a good thing if I WAS going to purchase one, it would probably be Hero Lab.

D&D Essentials is an Extreme "PASS" for me. I like my 4e books, as is, and I'm kinda sick of splat bloat.

4e was already a success in bringing in new people into the game and helping to create a fanbase among those who might not have been as interested before. I think Essentials is somewhat a waste of time and money attempting to mine a slowly disappearing pool of "Would be" role players.

Maybe I'm incorrect, but from what I've seen that's what they're doing.
