Shadow whines at her side but Shalewen holds him back until she lets go her shot.

Shadow nudges her as he races to attack just before the arrow flies and she knew without a doubt it fouled the shot. But it was too late to worry. She just knocked another and took aim.

"Find cover," Shalewen says loud enough for her companions to here. Goblins might not be a great shot but if you fire enough arrows, one is bound to hit. She and Shadow scramble back to their previous cover. From there she readies her bow against the first one to come within sight.

Readied Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Moving back to the edge of the guard tower for cover. Readied attack against the first goblin that is within range and has no cover.

Shalewen barks a command in elvish and Shadow jumps to respond, racing back to her position and laying low, ready for another attack. Shalewen tilts her head this way and that trying to pinpoint the commotion.

I also do not know what discord is and isn't Roll20 for live games? I would prefer PBP.

Some helpful tips though:

Wayfinder the app is only a dollar and is fairly useful for PBP.

Always Copy What You Type. Cannot stress that enough. Before submitting, copy it. If it fails, paste it and try again. If it fails, save it in notepad and try later. So much easier than typing it all over again.

Shalewen Begins to move closer, continuing to fire shots into the melee at the gate. She focuses her shots on the same target Shadow goes for.

Shalewen had never seen what a firework could do if used as a weapon and she really didn't want to find out. Especially since it was aimed at her friends. She taps Shadow on the shoulder, tranferring a different blessing to him and sends him after the unaware goblin. Before he reaches it, she sends an arrow over his head at the same target.

Attack vs Flat-footed: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Striking from stealth should mean a flat-footed target. Attacking firework wielder and changing animal focus of Shadow to str.

Shalewen presses herself against the wooden wall of the watchtower when she hears the door open. She fights the urge to run as that would just cause more noise. Instead, she and Shadow move around the side of the watchtower and out of sight. Let Ikoma or Rokkad go first.

Shadow Stealth: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 4 = 23

Heel trick for Shadow to avoid fighting. Can't fail the Handle Animal since its not a push. Stealth around the side of the watchtower and let Ikoma engage first.

So the skeleton's from the cave had attacked it seemed. But why? Did the goblin's steal something they shouldn't have? Again she tries to stealth forward in the direction of goblin breathing without Shadow following.

But true to his name he continues to follow. And if he was going to follow, she could at least make him better at it.

Shalewen had a hard time believing goblins defended against all these skeletons. And that they built the impressive palisade wall. They weren't known for the kind of focus it would take to build this. Something else was at work here but without investigating, she could guess all day. So, in lieu of anything meaningful to add, she follows along quietly. She darts to the other side of the gate and peers in. She was confident in her own stealth and tails Kokip as best she can. She orders Shadow to stay for now.

"Not afraid. Hate. Dogs too," Shalewen corrects. If Ikoma rode in there he'd likely get way ahead of the others and be the goblins' entire focus. Maybe that would work. Maybe not. It'd be extremely dangerous for him. Same for Shadow. "Ambush." It wasn't quite a question. More a statement of preference.

Despite the bandaging and a good night's sleep, Shadow was still limping in the morning. Shalewen would have preferred to rest another night at least but Ikoma was right. They had a mission. And its not like they hadn't dealt with worst odds. She'd keep him close and use him sparingly. Only one thing could make them return. She looks at Mitsuko and her pack where the letter resided. "How important is that?"

Shalewen finishes dressing Shadow about the time he perks up and looks in the direction they had come. Both ears are forward in a gesture of interest rather than caution. She looks that way of course sees nothing. But when she turns her head she hears what he had. The storm had finally let up. The flow of water too. They could carry on but, after the fight, she doubted anyone would want to right now. "Storm's over. We should rest."

Shalewen remains tense for a few moments after the skeletal samurai falls, weary of any more enemies. She feels a nudge from behind and turns to see Shadow, one paw held off the ground and dripping blood slowly. If he wasn't sensing anything nearby then it was okay to relax a bit. She puts her weapons away and takes a good long look at his wounds. They were more severe than any he'd taken before but not life threatening. Not yet anyway. The half elf digs around in her pack for some basic first aid and starts bandaging the worst of it. Shadow sits, docile as Shalewen works, periodically licking her hand or face.

The summoned wolf attacks one more time, working in tandem with Shelewen again, before poofing out of existence and back to the plane it called home.

A lot happens in the next few moments. Shalewen releases the spell and another canine appears behind the skeletons. It immediately lunges at the skeleton, working with Shadow to attack.

Bite+flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Instead of letting Shadow continue, she whistles and calls him back to her side. Should be DC 12 Handle Animal to Heel and I can't fail that anymore.

She steps up in his place, drawing her sword and shield, and stabbing at it.

Attack+Flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Move to draw sword and shield. 5ft step up. Standard to attack. Shadow withdraws. Summoned another dog behind the one dueling Ikoma.

How do they have three attacks, all at the same bonus?

Her first hasty shot was mostly ineffectual against the skeleton. But its return strike on her companion was not. She decided against another poorly placed shot and instead intones a prayer, calling on nature to provide aid. She hoped Shadow would hold out long enough for the prayer to be answered.

Casting Summon Nature's Ally.

Should have bought a few blunt arrows.

Shalewen cries out, not from fear, but in outrage as one of the skeletons harms her companion. Without thinking about the consequences, she knocks the arrow of light and pulls back, intending to put it through the undead skeleton's eye socket.

Attack+Point Blank Shot: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damamge: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Swift Action: Apply new animal focus to both characters, Tiger (+2 dex) for Shalewen and Bull (+2 Str) for Shadow. Then attack. If the undead next to her is still alive she procs an AoO.

Considering the time it took get off the shot, Shalewen lights up another arrow and picks up her fallen torch. She nods her agreement with Rokkad. They should make this place safe. They hadn't yet found a place suitable to bed down anyway. Still far too damp.

Technically those actions will take two rounds. Standard to light. Move to go back to fallen torch, one to pick it up and another to come back.

Oh s$*~. I forgot. I was expecting some rolls but they aren't close enough yet.

Shalewen sends shadow to help Ikoma, giving the wolf greater strength in the hopes that it will be enough to crush bone. With the light, he'd not be needing the night vision. For her own part, she takes aim at the same creature and lets fly another arrow.

Attack+Point-Blank: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18
Damage+Point-Blank: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Barely enough to hurt I think.

Okay but:

Light - "This spell causes a touched object to glow like a torch, shedding normal light in a 20-foot radius from the point touched, and increasing the light level for an additional 20 feet by one step, up to normal light (darkness becomes dim light, and dim light becomes normal light). In an area of normal or bright light, this spell has no effect. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a movable object."

The dim light circle is way too big (supposed to be 20', not 40') and the arrow went way too far. I was aiming for overlapping dim light zones. That should, by the wording above, mean normal light in the overlap. Hard to conceptualize but I was trying to make it easier for the humans.

Shalewen looks down the tunnel and then up at the ceiling gauging the strength her next shot needs to be. She pulls back to a half draw and lets it fly. She accounted, and hoped, for some sliding. It arcs over the combat and past the torch light, shining over everyone on its way. Without the command to attack, Shadow follows closely.

Sending the Light arrow to a point far enough down the tunnel so as to barely overlap the current light source at her feet. She will then move 30 forward but it seems the circle is tied to the figure so I will let you do that. Shadow will ready an attack in case something approaches her but I doubt that will happen.

Shalewen's head turns ever so slightly to a sound further down the tunnel. A sword being drawn. Another undead perhaps? She drops the torch at her feet and reaches for an arrow. Instead of knocking it, she holds it in her hand and says something under her breath. The tip of the arrow begins to glow and shine with same intensity as the torch at her feet.

The skeleton on the map is way too far for us to even see. Torch light only goes 20 and darkvision 60. Its 65 out. So for now, casting light in an arrow and switching animal focus to +2 strength for shadow.

Shalewen pulls the webbing off Shadow's nose gives him a good scratch in his head for a job well done. "Spider," she says to the others while holding up the web. That path was relatively safe. She was about to send Shadow down the other when Arieys speaks up. She looks down the tunnel, drawing her bow. She would be pretty useless against most undead with a bow so she does not lead the way this time.

Shalewen looks at the options available as pointed out by Rokkad. A smaller tunnel to the right that splits into two or follow the water down the main tunnel. She would prefer following the main tunnel but not without making sure their flank was secure. She whistles and points down the smaller tunnel's right branch. Shadow obeys and goes exploring.

Take 10 on handle animal. Sending the Shadow down the right off shoot. I placed his picture at the entrance to the one I am talking about on roll 20.

I should have looked at the map. There is a spot to the southeast that looks dry. Also I have a grappling hook.

Shalewen forgoes using Kokip for assistance. Not because she was afraid of him but because she could make it on her own. He said he'd allow it but it still felt demeaning. She raises her bow and torch to shoulder level and uses them to balance as she slides along to the dry area southeast. Shadow whines at the shore but stays put once Shalewen gives the command. She slides a little with the flow but eventually makes it to dry rock. Once there she ties her rope to a grappling hook and tosses it back to the others.

If the grappling hook is attached to something, Shelewen can pull and provide support for others to cross. So can we say she and Kokip are aiding? That's +4. If Mitsuko clears a clean path then everyone should be able to make it.

I am back but it seems the story hasn't moved far enough for me to add anything.

To all my games. Going to be on vacation from tomorrow to Sunday. I will have my phone but I hate posting using a touch screen. Phone is new a little sensitive so some words don't come out right.

Shalewen steps one foot in the water and retracts it. She looks closely at the floor and follows the sound to the gushing cracks. She takes a tentative step forward and finds it manageable but just barely. Shadow would have significant difficulty here and most likely a few of the others. She looks back at Ikoma and Mitsuko specifically. She holds up a hand for the others to wait. Maybe there was a way stop the flow of water or a way to drain it.

Having the others hold off while Shalewen tries to find a way to navigate or reduce the water level (above rolls). Take 10 on Acro and she barely makes it thanks to high dex. Doubtful many others could. Also taking 10 on perception for 18.

Shadow emits a low rumble that is just shy of a growl. Shalewen hears this and knows he's spotted something living and possibly a threat. Rokkad confirms this though she isn't sure how. He was human. He shouldn't be able to see.

Shalewen snaps her finger to recall Shadow and unties everyone from the rope. She nods at Rokkads suggestion and lets Shadow guide her deeper into the left passage before lighting a torch. They should get some distance away before making camp. The spider should leave them alone after a meal but they'd definitely have to keep watch.

Ranger's kit says it comes with 10 torches.

Shadow doesn't get very far before he starts showing unusual behavior. Every now and then he would shack his head as if trying to shake a bad smell from his nose. "Something died here," she says. Most likely several things died here and that clicking might the cause. But that was just supposition at this point so she didn't bother to voice it.

Shalewen steps inside the cave, but only just, and starts hauling the rest of the group in. While they come in she sends Shadow further in to sniff around. Take 10 on handle animal for Seek.

As the winds pick up, Shalewen realizes that a storm is rolling over them about the time Rokkad calls for shelter. The problem was that the fog would prevent them from finding such shelter. It was thick it was starting to hamper visibility of the others. She stops and whistles sharply. A whistle she usually used for Shadow when he was far afield. As she waits for the others to gather round she takes out some rope. When they gather she shouts over the wind, "Grab rope. Stay Close." When everyone has a hold of the rope, she sets out to find shelter, mostly going by what she can feel as she walks.

Once everyone grabs the rope Shalewen looks for shelter to wait the storm out.

Shalewen takes one of the middle watches so the casters can benefit a full nights sleep. And though the house creaks and groans, she identifies the noises and ignores them. Thankfully those are the only ones that fill the night. In the morning, she looks over the map while absently munching on breakfast. Once she has the topography mostly memorized, she packs for the journey south.

Shalewen forgoes the bed, opting for a spot close to the fire. As long as they were inside she was fine on the floor, resting her head against Shadow who was already curled up there.

Shalewen takes aim from behind Mitsuko. Even if it notices her and changes, she just narrows her eyes and lets the arrow go, hitting whoever they look like in the eye. "Monster," she mutters, then turns back to head into the cabin. She was tired of its manipulations.

Shalewen shrugs, uncommitted to the idea. It was just a thought. And seeing as it tried to bait them in, might as well use it for what it was good at. But they certainly had to do something with it.

Shalewen almost forgot about the thing in the corner that took Walthus' form not too long ago. It was indeed very quiet. She looks at it like one would tool they didn't know how it worked yet. "Bait," she says, finding a purpose for it. Maybe they could lure the Monster in close with a little live bait.

Yeah. Never said we'd leave. Though if we use him as bait then we should leave to set up a trap.
