Mitsuko:

Your bluff passes with wonderful colors based on Volorog's response- both of which are unhelpful lies. It is clear he only knows of the River monster, and is in no sort of alliance with it.

It is equally clear that he does know where Walthus is, though this appears to be revealed all at once based on the party's actions.

Volorog would smile if it had a mouth as it turned towards the "intimidating" "Tree" "You're not nearly as big as the River Monster- one day it'll align all of us to swallow up that little spit you call Sandpoint! Walthus is dead, and be it me or someone else, you're all-"

Upon Kokip licking after his face-not-face Volorog gives a wild hiss and writhe as he screams out "NO! NO GET THE DAMNED THING AWAY FROM ME! CURSE ALL SNAKES! I HOPE YOU ALL ARE SENT TO THE ABYSS! PLEASE! HE'S SOMEWHERE IN THE HOME, I DON'T KNOW WHERE! HE HID FROM ME!"

Upon Rokkad's calling into the home a small thumping is heard as a door opens somewhere upstairs "H-hello? DON'T come up. I need to hear two people's voices to know... to know it isn't him. My vipers protect me! I-...I'll have them p-poison you! Stay where you are!"

Shadow finds nothing of importance and circles about the house rather quickly, Shalewen. Unless taking 20 out of initiative, or unless the animal companion has 3 INT, please be sure to roll your handle animal rolls!

Rokkad sends out a silent call and Kokip quickly finishes circling the house to slither into the open front door.

"You are quite safe, little one. Please come out." the large serpent calls out in a deep, resounding voice that echoes through the house.

"The Soggy River Monster," Arieys comments at Mitsuko's question. "It's a sinspawn that's been making its home here and attacking travelers over the past few months. And it's nowhere near friendly enough to ally with anyone, even this thing."

When she hears Kokip speak, she approaches the door as well, keeping near Rokkad.

"Mr. Proudstump, is that you? The real Mr. Proudstump, I mean. We've got that monster that was pretending to be you hogtied. You and your vipers are safe now."

Both Shalewen and Shadow look at Kokip with the same curious expression. Neither knew the thing could actually speak. Shadow goes to get a closer look again while Shalewen lowers her bow. It seemed things here were getting under control. That just left the thing following them, as not-Walthus reminded them. She whistles and Shadow leaps to her side. Together they move towards the bridge to keep watch. They others could handle the talking part.

Tiny foot steps are heard pattering around the upstairs of the home until Kokip, Rokkad, and Arieys lay eyes on who they presumed was the true halfling, Walthus.

His clothes were tattered and stained with blood- some dried, some wet and still pouring. He clutched two small hands to a gaping cut across his right ribs as he slowly moved down the stairs "You capt-captured that thing? Ah, oh it hurts. Good. Now..." Walthus draws a dagger from his vest in a small groan of pain "Finish the dirty thing off.... Nearly killed me, been chasing me for the past day and a half!"

Arieys frowns.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Proudstump. That monster tricked me into healing him, and I only had the one healing spell."

She looks at the others.

"What do you all think? Does this...Volorog deserve any mercy?"

"You're quiet now, aren't you, beast? Knowing....hugh, knowing your fate. I would entrust that decision to you then, Ikoma. At least then it can be said it was decided by a representative of the laws of Sandpoint, and not a injured halfling out for vengeance." "Volorog" remains unnervingly quiet as his face turns without eyes in Ikoma's direction.

Looking at the creature bound infront of him, Ikoma thinks for a long time. "I can´t be judge, jury and executioner. Bind him please, bind him good and we will take him with us, when we return to Sandpoint!"

"We have another job we came here to do. Also, if this creature takes on a form that seems innocent and manages to deceive the townsfolk that we are in the wrong what will you do?" The likely hood of that happening was low but she was curious on the answer. Also, reminding them they spent a day and a half travel just to get here.

"It will probably be best to render him unconscious for the duration of him being tied up and back in town so we have no such worries of him managing to escape and bonds put on him nor fooling anyone. Also, what will we do about the goblin threat in the meantime?"

Kneeling next to Walthus she pulled out a handkerchief and would hold it out. "To help with your wounds. I know its not much."

Rokkad kneels down to examine Walthus. "Those wounds do not look good. I saw some herbs nearby that will help with the pain and prevent infection." he states after a minute. He runs into the swamp, coming back quickly with several plants. Walthus, at the aid of Mitsuko and Rokkad, seems to finally take a true and deep breath without pain. He sits for several minutes adjusting and fiddling before the bleeding comes to a halt. It takes even longer for him to stand and speak- the healing process seemed to be somewhat painful in the short run, but has now run its course.

Volorog remains silent as he is bound without resistance- should there be no one with proper rope, Walthus slowly stands and offers it out to anyone who needs it. His demeanor slowly changes as he whistles his several vipers to curl and wind up and about his body "Oh, the pain! The pain is gone! Oh wonderful, oh thank you! Here here!" Walthus takes off his own cloak and wraps it around Rokkad's shoulders "A gift! I wish I had more, but it isn't wise to give out too many great things right now... She's right to bring up the goblins." Anyone have spellcraft? Detect magic? If not, you will need to identify the cloak another way.

Walthus invites everyone in as he begins to hum and heat tea in a rather large kettle for a single halfling "The goblins have gone a bit silent, and a huge horde, maybe 10 or 12 of them, came running past my home in some sort of frenzy. Not sure what caused it... Volorog, the fiend, came about just after the ruckus. Don't imagine you could get a word out of him on whether he caused it, was spooked by it, or maybe was running from whatever it was himself..."

Mitsuko would pull out rope for them to tie the creature up.

Nodding she would smile at Rokkad when they were complete. "It is good to know. Thank you Rokkad. I am not skilled with medicine myself. Perhaps I should invest in that kind of magic."

About to say more she stopped when she heard Walthus bring up the goblins himself. She would check out the cloak with a quick glance casting Detect Magic

As if second nature when he started to heat up tea she would move to grab tea cups and looks for a tray or makeshift one. "I can help serve tea if you wish."

A flurry of excitement draws Shalewen's attention back to the hut. Everyone appeared to moving into the drab building. And the imposter was still alive. Odd turn of events. The thing that had been following them was making no sign it was going to attack. Probably wasn't with so many people in one spot. Deciding against staying out all night, she whistles to Shadow and they head back to the cabin. Besides, she vaguely heard the word goblin.

Arieys smiles as Walthus' wounds are tended to, and his snakes happily crowd around him. It was adorable to see animals that most people feared fawning over their master so.

"I agree. Tactics over tea sounds like a great idea, though we'll probably want one of us to keep an eye on Volorog here to make sure it hasn't got any more tricks."

"By the way, my snakes names are; Vivian, Venus, Violet, and of course my ever loving Schnels." Walthus gives a small poke to the black banded snake coiled around his left shoulder with a shining grin.

"In the meantime and aside from myths- there's a goblin camp somewhere about South, oh South East of here. Run by that deluded Chief Gutwad. Normally I have to make a deal or two to keep him away from me and my gardens, but recently he's been quiet. Even more recently a few of his tribesmen and women goblins have come tearing and roaring and crying through here as if they had seen the Sandpoint Devil. It's the most odd thing I've seen since I've been here. And let me tell you, that is quite a long time."

Mitsuko Sense Motive:

The ranger and halfling is clearly being dishonest- someone that had spent as much time as he proclaims in these woods would certainly see something that your group, having only been in the forest for a day, had already seen.

Something about the beast was off putting to the Halfling- he felt conflicted about it though the reasons were not entirely obvious...

Regardless, Rokkad's inclination was spot on.

The halfling hobbles into his seat with a relaxed sigh as he "aahs" over the steam flowing from his cup of tea "Aaaaah, nothing like a good cup of tea. I haven't had one in a day or two since that thing came by here." He falls silent at the pestering on the Soggy River Monster "Well I, perhaps I have heard a few of the myths about this beast- I simply assumed it and the Sandpoint Devil are the same.... Now, where were we..... Oh! The fleeing goblins- no they were most certainly running from something. Oh no- that isn't what sent you here, is it? Has something happened in Sandpoint?"

Walthus plays with the black banded snake and small giggles as he converses with the others, eventually offering buttered bread to any who might have a small hunger.

Diplomacy DC 20 to press Walthus further on Soggy River Monster

"Not yet, thankfully. But the local tribe out here apparently got their grubby little mitts on a cache of fireworks, which made them feel like they could take on the world. Sheriff Hemlock doesn't want something like the attack on the Swallowtail Festival last year to happen again, so we've come out here to nip the problem in the bud."

She politely accepts some bread and nibbles on it.

Arieys finishes her bread and takes out her cards, shuffling them as she does.

"Have you ever had a harrowing, Mr. Proudstump?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27

Mitsuko sipped the tea with pleasure taking careful notes. "There is an old Tien Proverb my mother would tell me. 'If man has no tea in him. He is incapable of understanding Truth and Beauty.' Your tea is excellent Mr. Proudstump and my mother would have enjoyed it greatly." She sips again letting the proverb slowly sink in.

"I am sure that you don't want to seem like you are telling a tall tale so it is okay to seem nervous. You feel conflicted on telling us what you know. Why is that? You have nothing to fear from us. We will take your words of wisdom and cherish them."

Rokkad takes a bite of bread, then finishes off the last of his tea, deciding to let the matter of the monster drop for now. And I do have tea, though I don't have tea leaves.... do you require anything for it to be done???" As he harrows compliantly and joyfully with Arieys, standing his halfling self up on his chair so that he could stretch out and reach Arieys' hands, he looks to Mitsuko with a cock of his head.

"I can't tell you, ah yes, mind the hot tea cup, Arieys- I can't tell you how many people have said that, and still not listened, but... If you insist... I absolutely know what beast you are speaking of. Its presence, I think, has well kept the goblins away from Sandpoint. I'm almost certain of it. But then one who is wise would wonder when it itself would run into Sandpoint....

I am conflicted, but mostly in that I do not know if I should leave it be, as it leaves me be, or if I should kill it. Unfortunately I don't know much about the beast. It frustratingly alludes me... Goblins, however...."

Walthus gives an excitable grin to Rokkad "In the morning I can easily draw on a map or two where you would find these goblins. Be wary- something has them spooked. I was just scouting their perimeter myself with no avail as to why they hide constantly in their homes... I was going to check a cave nearby them a few days ago before it showed up. Hmph."

Walthus gives a mocking spit after the steadily tied and eerily quiet Volorog before sighing as Arieys continues his reading "Regardless, I suppose you all would want to stay here for the day? If not then I could most likely sketch you something after tea!"

Arieys smiles as Walthus seems to calm down and become more friendly.

"We welcome your hospitality Mr. Proudstump! Fear not, by the time we're done, both the Licktoad goblins and the Soggy River Monster will no longer plague you! To say nothing on that monster tied up outside."

She helps Walthus clear the table and begins to set her cards out.

Walthus lets Schnels sprawl over a separate shelving of books as he sifts through dust riddled parchment "Yes, here. This should be much more accurate than what any of you have- of course, I have a bit of a advantage, heh heh!"

Walthus spreads the map out and identifies key points for the group to go through to get to the Goblins "And.... if you have a mind of what to do with the Soggy River Monster.... It is here." Walthus' stubby finger points to a place near where the group had camped after their encounter with the goblins "It sleeps during the day, relatively. He's an easy waker... I've yet to be able to get within three hundred feet before I hear him waken."

He pats Arieys hands after handing Mitsuko the map in passing by "Thank you for the reading. I do hope you all come by again soon for tea! Should you survive the woods, that is. Don't get caught out at night... I promise, the chances of you returning are small then. And deal with him before night falls..." Walthus gives another point to Volorog "His silence and lack of resistance means he is waiting.... Not compliant."

As the group leaves Walthus' home the Sun has just started to arc down towards the horizon. The sky wasn't quite orange yet- it was most likely evening. Somewhere around two or three o'clock. No wind blew and the smell of the forest had yet to become familiar as the adventurers took another breath of fresh air.
