Hi gang! Resurfacing to join the gravöl as we say in Swedish.

Interesting thread, although AvenaOats threw me off track for a while with the WoW-engine talk as it gave me totally wrong impression of what was being said. When I realised it was WoWish Interface that was the gripe everything make much more sense (is that correct? Otherwise I have to reread it from the start.

Aaanyway, here is my two cents threwn into the pile. I was mainly into the KS because I found the sandbox version of NWN (MOO style) set in Golarion (which I didn't know much of) interesting (that was how I read the pitch). Then promptly forgot about it as I do with all my KS (otherwise I would have died of ulcers ages ago).

When I finally joined due to beta being opened to every-one I was confused but entertained. The system was not d20 but clever, however it was lousy implemented and the lack of working documention made it a slog, but what ever to expect in beta.

I had a fun time, made friends and saw progress, in the end it was several small thing that made me take a break.

The bugs, every time a new version was applied the game went south for several days. That induced a bad impression of the development process in me.
The "class" Rogue never implemented, and the treatment of those who wanted to know why and when.
The reason I prefer to not play multiplayer games in general, other people. I frankly got tired of the bickering between the PvPers and the PvEers, the hadcore crowd of each wouldn't accept even the most sensible of compromises without screaming murder.

So what have this to do with anything? Well as been said above the marketing of the game was.... confusing, making the conflict between murderhobos and carebears endless and vocal. I guess GW should have been working a bit more adressing that, but I don't think it would have helped, b'cus humanz. My take had been to put more emphasis on exploring than on crafting and war, a greater survivalist feel had excluded both fringes of the extremists, perhaps catering to a smaller crowd (yes that would have been a problem) but save oh so much time and sweat.

I actually understand the PvP crowds frustration with the "other side" when I relised that it would blow into pieces of rage if a pickpocketing system was implemented.

So my conclution is that PFO was probably wrong in it's inclusiveness, humanity was not ready for it.

There hasn't been a clear definition of how the dedication bonus will work AFIK, and it would be interesting to see some dev thoughts about that one.

But I guess it is too far of in the future .... :-(

The priest in his tattered cloak over a rusty and well worn chainmail, rised his bony arms towards the sky and cackled:

"Let the people be tried, find those who are worthy of live in the River land. Let them be challanged, force them to cooperate, force them to fight over scraps, for survival, for their future!
Force them to use brains and brawn, to trade and to war, to follow the freedom of HANSPUR! The true god of the River Land!"

Looking around to see if anyone saw him he slunk away into the brushwood to pedlar his wares.

I really really like that we have things that are to powerful to handle!! It expands the decision tree and puts some bite into PvE.

(Rant)

If "carebear" is a derisive term used in some contex or another that no one seems to agree upon, I think it is really applicable to those fostered in the spirit of 3.5 D&D's encounter level design. Scaling stuff after the strength of your party is an abdominal RPG technique.

And as you only loot things that is unequipped a raider risk very little, just some duration hit.
In the battlefield the husks will leave very little worth looting as there isn't any reason to carry more stuff than you cam equip...

In other word hunting gatherers are the only thing to do from loot gain POV.

In the war of towers the husks wont change much...

I think it is excellent with a corner for the Hobbits!

And the beauty of this sandbox is that they still need stuff from the rest of the world so there will be trades and interactions aplenty. actually it will be even more reason to go up to the peaceful Shire to plunder ... get the top notch goods for a fair price.

@Schedim,

I wouldn't be so quick to shoot/dismiss this type of discussion down so far. PFO is creating its own emergent market and economic system, and this kind of player created gameplay is worth watching and participating in, especially for all the merchants, traders, bandits, crafter, mercs and independents out there. Figuring out what things are worth is of a lot of interest to many people. :)

yes, yes, sorry if it comes of like a shooting, having a bad day, it MONDAY for frakks sake :-)

Yeah, it is worth discussing, but in my opinion it is also worth to interject (mostly for those who reads and not comment) that the information density and fact validity is very, very low and mostly for exercise our brains.

And the chaotic nature always for me to snipe on people relying of rational, physical models applied on biological systems... call it a habit of work if it suits you :-)

I think we have different thoughts around what crowdforging means both to ourselves and for GW. Dont take me wrong, I think this process is interesting and enriching.
It is just that to me much of the ting above is not so much crowdforging as much as bug hunts and adjustment in my mind. I enjoy that, but when I supported this KS I got other impressions, if they are totally wrong or unfounded I like to know, it wont change my feelings or engagement in the game.
It is just that I'm used to know the limits of the projects I work in so I don't spend energy on stuff thats never going to be considered. Those limits can change but then Its is just to adjust for that.

Perhaps I just arrived at a bad time because it seems there was more info flow from Ryan before Alpha went public.

Here we have another aspect that is denied to the Rogue because the Rogue features no longer produce Flatfooted.

Not only do the Rogue Class Features not grant their bonuses, but neither do the Reactives.

I do not buy into the phantom flatfooted condition that some claim exists. If I don't see the Flatfooted icon on my target, my target is not flatfooted. "Acts as a flatfooted condition" was an excuse used in another thread, and that is BS as far as I'm concerned.

Rogues are broken, period! All of their Class Features and Reactives need to Proc off of Distressed, not Flatfooted which they no longer produce.

There are stuff that produce Flatfooted, but the thing that would be a gamechanger would be the actual implementation of the "All start combat as Flatfooted" that was mentioned a couple of months ago...

But as Bludd says, the Role of Rogue is non-existant, the thing we have is a badly nerfed Fighter-light of little use ...

Here is the formula BTW as Stephen describs it:

Quote:

I don't know if it's in now. It'll be in whenever Paul's changes on Friday afternoon get in.

The formula for the chance to drop any item on the loot table is:

([Base Chance]/[Group Size]) * (95% + [Group Size] x 5%) * (1 + [Relevant Skill Total]/600)

So if you have an item with a 60% drop chance, a group of 6, and everyone has maxed out skills, they'd each have a drop chance equal to:

(60%/6) * (95% + 30%) * (1 + 300/600)

10% * 125% * 150%

18.75%

Which is nearly twice as much loot, on average, than if one person with minimal skill had killed the thing. Each individual person only has a third the base drop chance, but overall the amount of loot given out went up dramatically.

We cap the chances at 100% for anything. So if you think something has a very high drop rate and your high knowledge skill is going to waste by pushing it over 100%, bring a friend.

(Very few things have a drop rate over 66% such that high skill will guarantee capping out the drop chance.)

Killing bot I see more as a houskeeping act and perhaps something for new PvP, that is actually something that gets forgotten in most of our discussions, there will probably be a stream of new players that will do the stuff the oldies have tired of.

And now I just have ha urge to sit in a cave, painted in garish colours, chanting:

husk, husk, husk ... husk, husk, husk .... husk, husk, husk
husk, husk, husk ... husk, husk, husk .... husk, husk, husk
husk, husk, husk ... husk, husk, husk .... husk, husk, husk
husk, husk, husk ... husk, husk, husk .... husk, husk, husk
husk, husk, husk ... husk, husk, husk .... husk, husk, husk

And then throwing strange powder in the fire, yelling:

It would really be interesting if GW spoke an opinion of this as it has been raised now and then for weeks..

I understand that the desync has taken a lot of the attention, but now the second largest problem (IMO) has to be addressed, the trading system.

Goblin Squad Member

The AH malarky is one of the greates problems left IMO. As the barter economy is the prevalent way of dealing these day it robs the crafter towns of a major part of their usefulness.
If just two adjustments to the AH was made the crafter towns would become the hub of activity they should be...

Get filters online in AH for pharesmas sake!

And I still thinks it would be a good idea to change the enumeration of the Attacks to be similar to that of the gear.

Instead of Chop-1, Chop-2 etc

it would be better with Chop+0, Chop+1 etc

To make it easier to understand the correspondence with the keywords of the weapons.

the keywords are confusing enough without having two different scales of index.

Yupp, sure, but some of my mess that I ignores was due to getting like a zillion XP dumped on me in the start.

Misspending a couple of thousands of XP hardly matters in the long run and perhaps just increase the diversity and personality of the character.

But a warning is indeed good to put in.

Diego Rossi wrote:

Freeholder training is available only in crafting settlements. From what I got in EE the settlement training will be available only to people from that settlement, so we will not be capable to train those skills unless we are part of a company linked to a crafting settlement, and that mean not having access to the fighting feats.

AFAIK this is wrong. Unless the Settlement leader opts to, everyone can train everywhere with the cap of the settlement your Company belongs to.

The option of limit training is a tool that will be implemented later IIRC.

Also Ryan(?) talked of some kind of stash to be implemented later on, a sort of buried treasure chest. so it isn't impossible that there will be other camps (of some type or other) that will have a limited storage capacity.

I second this absolutely. I still feel a bit tired when I open the combat trainer and all the attacks and stuff just flood me. I guess it can be a bit because the XP flood in the beginning so I have a little of everything. But some attacks/whatever could be staggered a bit more against Achievements.

And perhaps some should be squirreled away to only unlock at some special creature/quest/whatever achievement a bit like the crafter requirement of crafting stuff.

As long as Gatherers carry something, it will make the economy go around due to attrition of durability.

BTW I think the durability should vary with skill and quality of materials!
