Also, I've been doing a lot of Pathfinder Society GM'ing lately. That really doesn't affect this game a whole lot, other than the fact that I've been going through and reformatting a lot of my character sheets to try and make them all uniform, and easier to post with. One example is that any ability that has a 'uses per day', like Flamboyant Arcana, gets a spot in the header bar. This keeps me from forgetting about crucial abilities. For instance, this character would have an entry for Spellscars and Magus Arcana, along with anything else I find during the process.

I'm posting this because I don't want anyone to see such a drastic change in appearance of my sheet and think that I've tried to get away with a free rebuild or anything. It's just that I've found a better way to not forget about character abilities with all of the games I'm playing and GM'ing simultaneously, and it increases the quality of play and enjoyment for everyone involved.

Also, GM, I just wanted to tell you that this game (and the massive influence it has on this character) has influenced me to make a pathfinder society version of Reiko, and once I finish the build, he's going to be insanely awesome and fun to play. :)

Sorry guys. Spent the week doing inventory and then doctors appointments for the demonspawn that's coming. Yep, I have a little one on the way. Was kind of a shock considering that I've been told I was sterile for the last ten years. Should be semi normal now though.

Yeah, Ive found that the best thing to do to keep the pace up is to roll pretty much anything passive for the players. Perceptions, initiatives, saves, you name it. If it would be something that the rest of the players would have to wait for someone to post on, then just roll it for everyone.

I think what she means is that the gm rolls for everyone at the beginning of combat, and then posts a blurb like:

Reiko turns back to the fray, the magical fear finally having worn off, only to see the massive shape of Antonio in the way. An exasperated look crosses his face for a moment, before he starts stalking back toward the enemies, his left hand beginning the shapes of a spell.

I have a bow, I'm just waiting on confirmation that my fear effect is gone. That, and with Antonio's size, he grants cover to all of the enemies in front of him, so ranged attacks are pointless.

Ok, whose turn is it? GM, it may help to lay out the initiative order and do a turn recap after each round is over. Once I started doing that, it cleaned up combat a ton.

With the lack of a frontliner glaring, with a little hefty retrain, I can make Reiko a solid frontliner.

Of course, it would have to be part of the story, perhaps something he finds in the monastery partially warps him into the abyssal creature he made himself in the past, or such.

Basically, I make him an abyssal bloodline magus archetype, and take the mythic abyssal bloodline feat. He would be solidly capable of dealing frontline damage, and with a frat retrain, would be able to take hits like a tank.

Of course, I'm fine with keeping him as he is also. Up to Eldon.

As unfortunate as it can be for story elements in a lot of cases, pathfinder is very much a miniature based game. Characters are built and decisions are made on things that are finite pieces of gameplay, such as reach, positioning, feat utility, and the like.

Knowing what is going on, on the map, is a very big part of that. Hidden enemies are ok, but players know and expect that they have to succeed at stealth checks to surprise players. As such, we buff perception. Having them come out of nowhere while we get no way of countering that leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, especially after our mythic powers have been found to be different than what we expected.

Not that I don't like this game. I love the setting, the plot so far, my character, and the people in the group with me.

I think the best fix is to start using tokens on your maps you draw. I know that would go a long way to helping me see what going on and what decisions to make. A lot of the time, when there are a lot of enemies, I don't really feel like I'm doing anything more than "I attack the guy who hit me" most of the time.

I know my posting rate has been sporadic for a long while now, but I got shifted into a new job that pretty much eats all of my time, and it's hard to keep up with all of my long term games. I'm still here and I appreciate you guys bumping me and rolling init and things like that.

All in all, I think what we need is just more clarification on a lot of things, especially if they are going to change rules that we take for granted. Not that I am against those rules being changed, but just asking for a heads up is all.

Reiko spends the night in contemplation, and adding new spell scars to his arms. His meditations are spent trying to force himself to have another vision of his past, trying to put together what is happening here with what he was a part of... before. After he's done carving these new spells onto his body, he rests, and meets back up with the group in the morning, his traveling gear packed and his blade on his side, and his water skin filled with the water from the spring.
I am prepared. The monastery, then?

Scars of Burning Hands, Enlarge Person, and Infernal Healing added. Also, it is probable a good idea to buy some bandoliers and some empty potion bottles for the spring water, that way we have access to it in potion form and a ready location on our bodies at all times. If we have time before leaving, Reiko would see about purchasing some for himself.

Reiko's build progression is meant to include mythic in order to stay viable in a couple of levels, so I really don't know what to do with him now. I'll figure something out, I guess.
