Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Sakuro followed the others off of the ship, continuing to keep her spells at the forefront of her mind just in case she needed to get busy and start casting. A big pool of grease under some people hurrying down the stairs would be funny, right?
Er, not funny, practical. Very practical for helping protect the group and not at all her wanting to see the expressions on their faces.
She'll just keep that spell readied in case hostiles approach...
EldonG |
Actually, the only stairs lead down from the walkway into the water, and only the top steps are at all visible. Did you want him to secure the boat on the right, or the left, or did you want him to go ahead and pole it all the way across the room? It must be 100' long.
Reiko Arashi |
Reiko follows Antonio, his katana out.
Well, I suppose we're about to get a lot of answers. Perhaps more questions, too.
When the thing in the water is pointed out, he stiffens a bit.
Perhaps another monstrosity like we fought in the woods? We should be wary...
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
"Uh... I don't think I can summon sharks..." Sakuro muttered, looking a bit nervously towards the water. She did, however, keep her magic on hand. As it were.
Nala the Wanderer |
Init Nala: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Nala lazily watched the dogs as she moved over the edge of the ship to get onto the banks. No sense in me rolling for the two other people.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Init: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
As mentioned above, if any new enemies are coming in from by the door, Sakuro wants to Grease the area under them.
Nala the Wanderer |
Init Reiko: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Sakuro
Reiko
Nia
Antonio
Nala
Dogs
Humans
Reiko Arashi |
I was just waiting on an official action from Sakuro, since she said she was waiting until someone came through the door. Reiko isn't stellar on reflex saves and I didn't want to have to fight that and the enemies all at once.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
I'd thought my post was official. XD; If new enemies are coming in through that door, she's casting Grease to mess with their footing. Unless you'd rather she not, in which case she'll do something else on her turn!
Antonio Nedraid |
If the dogs are in the way, Antonio will try to intimidate them to get them to flee.
"Go on! Git!" He shouted, making a sharp whistling sound by slashing his rapier through the air.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
EldonG |
Once the doors are open, people come pouring out, brandishing weapons. Most have daggers, but one on either side is actually carrying an axe and shield. They all move toward you, menacingly, except a couple of them that start chanting words of power.
Only the axe and shield armed ones have any armor on - and it's just studded leather. The two chanting wear hooded robes very similar to those the cultists were wearing on that first fateful night, and the daggers look the same, as well, though most are dressed like you might expect any common peasant to dress at home.
I'll allow the grease to be targeted anywhere you want along the walkway, and I assume people will actually be engaging, at this point?
Nala the Wanderer |
Nala was waiting to see how the people who had better initiatives handled the dogs. She didn't want to attack them, but knew it was probably the proper course since they couldn't be properly manipulated.
Nala takes a moment and sends a roiling thundercloud (DC 15) into the casters, not being picky about which, given that the dog was already occupied; it wasn't the dog's fault it had bad owners. If the dog were close she'd have taken a step back to ensure she could finish the spell.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
You can generally assume Sakuro will be firing grease wherever it's likely to make the most trouble for the enemy, yeah. XD Trying to catch as many as possible.
Reiko Arashi |
Finally seeing what he was waiting for, Reiko nods to his opponents and raises his katana into an attack stance.
Picture a Jedi settling in for a light saber duel.
His blade begins glowing blue as he funnels his power into it, and he grins slightly.
Are you ready to pay for your crimes? And to die?
Swift Action to make katana +1, move to engage armored enemy, and standard to attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
EldonG |
Ok...the grease is cast not far ahead of the group, on the left side walkway. That'll mean that most have to pass through it, the only exceptions being the few dagger-wielders even closer, and those that hang back.
Now - because everybody waited, there's a big cluster right around you - the walkway is only 5' wide, and one dagger-wielder comes up from behind, one almost right next to the group, and a couple ahead - though they do make way for the obvious warrior.
Cultist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Cultist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Warrior: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
One of the cultists slips and falls, and the warrior doesn't make it there, either, going down face-first.
EldonG |
Three cultists slash with their wicked, gleaming daggers - two on Reiko, and one from behind, on Antonio -
Reiko: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 for a possible: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Reiko: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 for a possible: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Antonio: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 for a possible: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Both of you please make a Will save, as magic struggles against you.
Antonio Nedraid |
Didn't realize the lighting was that bad. I'd have a torch in left hand then.
Will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Antonio swept aside a dagger thrust with a skirling of steel and a grin.
"What? Did we come at a bad time?" He jested as he riposted.
Rapier attack vs. his attacker: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 will likely hit for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 piercing damage.
Nala the Wanderer |
Nala had also unveiled her everburning torch as soon as the light grew dim, way earlier. :)
EldonG |
Even as he hits and downs his attacker, Antonio is gripped by an unnatural fear, coming from the horrible spellcaster down the walkway - he has little choice but to vault his crumpling opponent and dart the other direction down the walkway!
Right - and the immediate area has good light - but it only carries so far. That's a 30' radius, right?
Nala the Wanderer |
20.
Antonio Nedraid |
Right. A torch creates normal light out to 20 feet, shadowy/dim 20-40 feet out. And unlike an Everburning Torch, I can light people on fire...;)
...When I get back from running away...;(
Reiko Arashi |
Reiko sweeps his katana around, and parries the second attack, and then with a wicked grin drives his katana into the foe!
Parry Attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Riposte Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
His eyes begin to take on that haze they do when he is in battle, almost as if the elf loses himself to what few terrible memories he has left...
Reiko Arashi |
Psst, Reiko; Will save...
Whoops, missed that.
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 With an additional +2 against enchantments
If that fails, then the duration is halved due to the forgotten past feat. Speaking of, still waiting to get them memories back to complete it!
EldonG |
Reiko finds himself panicking, too - but as the attacker tries to follow, he suddenly goes sliding under the rail, and into the water with a splash.
In the meantime, the other attackers seem to have their own problems to deal with -
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16
Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
The casters are a ways away, but there are attackers coming along the walkway - according to the spell description, the thundercloud will stop and attack as soon as it encounters one. Along a pretty direct path to the casters, it'll get one at the end of its 20' move, and you'll be able to get it to one of the casters on the next round. It is under your control, so I'm taking liberties, I understand, but I figured you'd rather have it hit something along the way than not.
Though the cultist avoids being hit, several stop for the moment to avoid contact with the cloud!
Nala the Wanderer |
Sure.
EldonG |
At this moment, only one of the cultists is in melee range - the one that Reiko wounded, and another - the one that got through the grease - is right behind him. The ones stopped by the thundercloud will be dealing with the grease as soon as they move - right now, both the warrior and the cultist that fell are trying to get back to their feet.
The adepts start into more spells, as soon as they're able.
Antonio will spend: 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds terrified, Reiko, half of: 1d4 ⇒ 4.
Antonio Nedraid |
At his next turn, Antonio feels the unnatural fear leave him just as he is about to dive into the lake to swim away. Infuriated, he turned and ran back to the very place he had just fled from.
"Now then; where were we?" He asked with an unpleasant smile.
Reiko Arashi |
Ok, whose turn is it? GM, it may help to lay out the initiative order and do a turn recap after each round is over. Once I started doing that, it cleaned up combat a ton.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
"Geeeeeet... BIG!" Sakuro cried, throwing her hands into the air as she focused her magic on Antonio. At the very least, that ought to help him stab and slash things a little more effectively - and few things frightened enemies as much as things suddenly getting way bigger on them. It was... whatchacallit... instinct. Big things were scary. Big things with big, pointy weapons were even scarier.
Casting Enlarge Person on Antonio. 4/6 1st level spells remaining.
Nala the Wanderer |
Power attack spear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Nala commands the storm orb to travel onwards towards the chapters, seeking to either interrupt their casting, or at least obscure their vision.
Then she steps forward with a powerful lunging thrust, towards the cultist that has come in behind them.
EldonG |
Only one of the cultists is in melee, at first - but Nala's blow sends him reeling, spraying blood, and the warrior who slipped in the grease is back on his feet and advancing, with others behind.
The thundercloud catches up with one of the casters:
Lightning: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4) = 10
Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Concentration: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
It scorches him badly, but his spell goes off!
Antonio suddenly finds the space he's in much smaller!
Huh? 'e got huge!
The warrior stands his ground at the edge of the grease, some 10' away.
Sakuro and Nia, will saves, please, as the magic tussles with your minds.
Incidentally, the dogs are nowhere of notice, at this point.
Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
The grease claims another victim.
EldonG |
Save: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Save: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Save: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Save: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Nope, it's not - but it hardly matters, as the spell goes from lowest HD up, and the captain and one of his boys are both snoozing. You may yawn once, but then it's passed. The other boy suddenly goes white as a sheet! Nia is still at risk.
Nia'Nikta |
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Nia feels them messing with her mind and her eyes turn to them as she glares.
She will strike out with her whip at one of the other guys trying to pull him into the drink
Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
If there is room for her to get up over the rail now she will climb over.
Antonio Nedraid |
Antonio is briefly disconcerted by everything around him suddenly becoming smaller. Then he smiled.
"Shall we dance?" He inquired of his next opponent as he stepped forward.
He Improved Feinted as a move action. Bluff vs enemy sense motive/CMD: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Success allows him to make his next attack vs enemy Flat Footed AC (and add sneak attack damage).
He attacked with his standard action.
Large Rapier attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for a possible 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13 piercing damage. If feint is successful, add 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 precision damage.
...Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 for a possible extra 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7 piercing damage.
Nala the Wanderer |
Nala allows her portable thunderstorm to stay right where it is, and then moves forward, towards where the grease is, to make the concept of crossing it seem that much more daunting. Assuming Antonio killed his opponent
