Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

This came up in a game I had this last weekend and I was excited to see this post...and then saddened that there wasn't any response.

As GM I ruled that you can't use a Misfortune effect to cancel a Halfling's luck, as to me that doesn't seem to be the intent. The player was trying to use Harbingers Caw on an NPCs Luck. I ruled that the Halfing would get the reroll with misfortune applied (roll twice and take the worse result.

I don't want to tell Paizo how to do their job, but I think that this license needs its own Orc ORC mascot. I would love to see some original art for the license of like a green-skinned hero writing a contract.

I was going through the Long March stuff, and it's going to be brutal... did other DMs consider that the PCs overland movement is halved b/c of the snow?

It seems like that might be overkill for Level 1 PCs...

The description of the terrain doesn't mention snow, but describes the land as "empty, dry brushlands with small plateaus and hillocks". It is below zero temperatures, the sky though is described as "cloudless and the bright sun beats down."

The "snowstorm" rules detailed on the sidebar are optional.

Yeah, that should be a poison effect. Plus, the vorphoma is missing its Statistics section. Here's what should have been included.

STATISTICS
Str +1; Dex +4; Con +1; Int +0; Wis +0; Cha +2
Skills Acrobatics +5, Athletics +5, Stealth +10
Languages Shirren; telepathy 100 ft.

That's a pretty big oversight, will there be a proper errata?

The addition of the Vorphoma's stats are already on the Archive of Nethys:

Just an FYI if you think Profession Mercenary would work in place of Profession Soldier, just let them roll that too, or any other similar profession. Usually Profession rolls are kinds of catch-all that some of the other skills don't represent well, like say Tactics or Leadership.

Keeley and I have been talking about very little EXCEPT this AP for months now! We're both stoked to finally be giving you all the high-level content you've been asking for... and which we have wanted to develop. We have fantastic authors working on this project, and we're designing it so your veteran PCs from other APs can slide right into this one.

Jason, did you have to make a whole host of new monsters for this AP or are we going to see a lot of the high level monsters from Alien Archives 1-3 in there?

I think that this might be the first AP that I run IRL after we finish a Pathfinder AP at my sunday game.

Oh boy, do we already get to talk about new classes for a potential 2021 release date?

So as was mentioned above I think that a FULL psychic magic user a la kineticist or a Scanner warrior would be interesting, but I imagine could fall under Mystic/Technomancer camps as a sub-class option.

The problem with any class is I feel like a lot of what I would suggest would be a mix of two existing classes with a bit of a theme on top.

-Commander: A mix of SOLDIER and ENVOY that is a front line advanced melee fighter who buff allies and debuffs enemies by striking foes.

-Scout: OPERATIVE and MYSTIC, kind of like a ranger, but a class that after fighting in a location for a certain number of days can gain bonuses to fighting foes and using local magicks.

-Serum Soldier: SOLDIER and BIOHACKER that uses transformative injections to power their attacks and give special abilities

-Gearhead: MECHANIC and OPERATIVE who rides a vehicle like a mount and can make finesse attacks while charging into battle

-Tank: SOLDIER and TECHNOMANCER that wades into battle with transforming power armor that adapts based on the needs of the combat

-Primal: SOLDIER and MYSTIC combo that focuses on archaic weapons and an ancient form of battle akin to Pathfinder's barbarian

-Gambler: A mystical option that combines a WITCHWARPERS powers of chance and an ENVOYs smooth talking to come out on top. Uses spells to empower influencing other and guiding lucky shots

-Predator: SOLARIAN and BIOHACKER that uses technology and high magicks to study and single out prey with attacks that focus on monster types

-Teleporter: A WITCHWARPER and VANGUARD combo that focuses on teleporting around the battlefield, and opening portals inside enemies...with your fist

-Mech warrior: VANGUARD and MECHANIC that is all about power armor from level 1, starting with an exoskeleton and at level 20 a huge suit of mech
armor

-Time Mage: TECHNOMANCER/MYSTIC and BIOHACKER that can speed up, reverse and slow down time buffing, debuffing, and healing damage on allies as time stitches up wounds

Just a couple of ideas, hope everyone had a happy holidays!

Don't forget that they are already awake for quite some time.

2 hours for walking to their patrol area, 13 hours of patrol (a day in Suskillon has 26 hours), 1 hour back, 1 hour fighting etc.
So they are awake for around 17 hours when they start the long march.

This will also mean that their environment protection systems (eps) will be empty before they reach Fort Gallant.

My group is half way through the first book (they arrived in Reos) and the march to Fort Gallant was really tense, not only because of what just happened (SpaceDock-1, Jamallak, destruction of the City etc.) but also because their eps were close to run out of battery.
They only make it without Cold Climate rolls because they activated the eps not when they moved out of camp but a few hours later (and made the cold climate rolls then).
But the bridge and the low energy really brought up the pressure. (I also reminded the player during the march from time to time about the way ahead and the energy of their eps^^ ("8 miles to go and your energy is at 30%, let's hope nothing happens on the way..." *rolled a dice behind the DM screen*).

So I tried to leave some vague language on the time scale in that section for GMs to adjust things how they want. If you want the Long Slog section to be fairly easy you can run it short (like only 4 hours of forced March), or if you want them trudging through a snowstorm after being awake all night then that option exists too.

The Bridge crossing is like the climax of the first part of the book, and the stakes should feel do or die (if a player character is out of RP at that point the explosion is definitely deadly!)

gave em a busted up truck to make it a hour or 2 worth of the journey before it breaks down because they wouldn't stop asking about it and they were acting like I was being too strict or railroad

Ps, this was after the 4 dredger crater fight without them taking any damage because thye climbed up onto some rocks while one stood below and fought them.

You are a kinder GM than I. I would have had a Swarm Fleetfury swoop in and slag their vehicle after 10 minutes to add some Acid damage on top of the forced march...

Hey quick little errata I noticed the other day. The bug snare item on page 44 should be a level 2 item, not a level 10 item. It is priced appropriately for level 2, so you might be able to pick one up during the adventure if you save your credits!

That's a 2 in binary, adding more fuel to the theory that you are, in fact, an Android.

So the Player's Guide in this AP volume is a set up for the Suskillon Defense Force, the main military org. that is taking on the Swarm in this AP.

It is similar to other Player Guides in that it is all info that you can give to your players to inform them on making characters that fit well in the AP. There are also player options and equipment that is geared for taking on the Swarm.

You do not have to use it at all, but I tried to work in some possible backgrounds for how different Character Themes would fit into the picture of this adventure.

Let Paizo know if you like this style of backup material by writing a review, positive or negative, once you read this book!

Hey there, this is Patrick the author here. The planet that "Fate of the Fifth" takes place on is called "Suskillon" and it is a far-off colony that has been under its own governance for over a century. I imagined Australia while I was writing it, as it has these huge cities but also large tracts of unspoiled wilderness between them. The description of 'marauding bikers' is funny because that makes me think of Mad Max.

I purposefully did not rewatch Starship Troopers while writing, but to be honest I have that movie like laser etched into my brain, so I hope some of the action percolated into this AP for you all and your friends to play in August!

Hi everyone, my name is Patrick and I am the GM on the Cosmic Crit podcast.

We have had a great time playing through the Dead Suns AP this last year, and we wanted to share our love of the game with our fans, and hopefully introduce some new players to Starfinder via streaming on twitch.

This year we are doing another fundraiser for Paizo's Extra Life charity super team. You can join us tomorrow, November 3rd from 10:00 AM to about 8:00 PM PST as we stream character creation, play the SFS scenario "Live Exploration Extreme!" and then have a movie watch along!

Follow our twitch channel here and join up tomorrow in the chat!

If you enjoy our podcast or the stream, or just care to help out, we would thank you for any and all donations that you wish to give us. Thanks to everyone that comes out and we here on the pod hope you all have a great game and fun-filled weekend!

Cosmic's Crit Extra Life 2018!

How do you plan to deal with the fact that higher level characters (Soldiers, Operatives and Solarians) make more attacks and are thus more likely to roll a natural 1 despite their increased skill?

So, I plan to play Natural 1's just like Natural 20s. It confirms if it hits (or in this case misses) the target AC.

So if a high level character rolls a Natural 1 against a low level creature, if the attack would still beat the EAC/KAC then it will be an automatic miss, but nor a Critical Failure. In this way taking the negatives for multiple attacks is risky (as it should be) but you can do so against targets that are easier to hit without too much worry.

I also plan to use this for enemies as well whenever I roll a Natural 1 as GM, so I think it will be pretty balanced.
