I don't want to tell Paizo how to do their job, but I think that this license needs its own Orc ORC mascot. I would love to see some original art for the license of like a green-skinned hero writing a contract.

So the Player's Guide in this AP volume is a set up for the Suskillon Defense Force, the main military org. that is taking on the Swarm in this AP.

It is similar to other Player Guides in that it is all info that you can give to your players to inform them on making characters that fit well in the AP. There are also player options and equipment that is geared for taking on the Swarm.

You do not have to use it at all, but I tried to work in some possible backgrounds for how different Character Themes would fit into the picture of this adventure.

Let Paizo know if you like this style of backup material by writing a review, positive or negative, once you read this book!

Hey there, this is Patrick the author here. The planet that "Fate of the Fifth" takes place on is called "Suskillon" and it is a far-off colony that has been under its own governance for over a century. I imagined Australia while I was writing it, as it has these huge cities but also large tracts of unspoiled wilderness between them. The description of 'marauding bikers' is funny because that makes me think of Mad Max.

I purposefully did not rewatch Starship Troopers while writing, but to be honest I have that movie like laser etched into my brain, so I hope some of the action percolated into this AP for you all and your friends to play in August!

Just saw this thread, and I am the author of this section of the AP volume on Sarenrae and am pretty sure this was just a header-error marking the longarm as one-handed. I wanted to make some weapons that weren't currently in Starfinder that felt Sun-worship-worthy, and I hope you all enjoy them!

I own these for Pathfinder and they are really nice to have the appropriate cards ready and set aside, especially for combat, spell casting and skill rules checks.

I can't tell you how many times we have stalled on a question and found an answer in the deck faster than online.

Hi everyone, my name is Patrick and I am the GM on the Cosmic Crit podcast.

We have had a great time playing through the Dead Suns AP this last year, and we wanted to share our love of the game with our fans, and hopefully introduce some new players to Starfinder via streaming on twitch.

Hi Starfinder Messageboard,

We're Cosmic Crit, a Starfinder Actual Play Podcast, and we are playing through Dead Suns and if you've listened to us we
humbly thank you. Every month we get the community involved by asking for submissions to our Fan Challenges, from Starfinder players and our fans alike. For February the challenge to to build a Critical Failure deck for Starfinder.

When you roll a Natural 1 we want their to be consequences for Melee, Ranged and Spell casting that rolls a d20. Submit one of each critical failures and we will compile them all into a large list and make an online generator and release it in March. We will also award our three favorite submissions with $10 in Paizo PDFS, and enter everyone that helps out into a drawing for more prizes. Enter as many times as you'd like. More rules and explanation about the challenge can be found here.

Here is an example of a submission:

MELEE: "Overextended" You miss and your weapon leaves you open to a counter attack. You gain the flat-footed condition until you take a move action to steady yourself.

RANGED: "Discharge" A piece of flak, debris or energy escapes your weapon in such a way that you are thrown off and gain the Off-Target condition until the end of the fight

SPELLS: "Discombobulated" The Magic backfires in a way that you must make a Willpower save equal to 10 + the Spells level or it hits and effects you.

I really appreciate Rob's answer to that question, as I got book three this week and immediately searched it top to bottom about his ties to the Corpse Fleet. It seems very confusing but the info that I have to go on is:

-Eskolar seems to be seeking Diplomatic Immunity
-Eskolar will not acknowledge her connection to the Embassy or C.F.
-Nor will not acknowledge ties to the C.F.
-The ship in AP Book 2 wants to recapture Eskolar.

In my mind, and more than likely how I will be representing it in story is that Nor is trying to turn an agent himself for Eox, without going through the Stewards (as is required under Eoxian law), perhaps he has Diplomatic Immunity for such sensitive intelligence work?

If the C.F. wants to recapture (as opposed to kill Eskolar) then she has information more than likely important to both parties neither has. Perhaps access codes/coordinates for derelict Eoxian ships in a hidden cache in the Diaspora? I love a good mystery, and open ended questions like that one, and the end fate of the Hardscrabble/Astral Extractions litigation I enjoy as a GM.

Hi Pathfinder & Starfinder fans

We are Cosmic Crit, an actual play show running through the Dead Suns Adventure Path for the Starfinder Roleplaying Game. About 2 months ago we launched our show, and we wanted to thank everyone for your support and listening, and invite people to catch up if you haven't heard of us yet.

Our show is dedicated to highlighting the best parts of the Dead Suns AP, and to mix in a lot of character backstory, side quest story telling, and fleshing out the living Starfinder universe. That being said we are dedicated to trying to get the rules right, and make our show explanatory for people trying to learn how to play the game for the first time.

We run the show pretty clean, and have made up a few inventive Starfinder curse words to replace our salty language when the dice don't go our way. So expect to hear "Pronk!" said a lot, in a variety of ways.

This last Monday when the Moon eclipsed the Sun we released the first episodes of our new Starfinder Roleplaying Game Actual Play Podcast "COSMIC CRIT". We wanted to come back to the Paizo boards and let you know a little bit about the podcast, the game and why we love Starfinder so much.

  • First off, you can find our first gameplay episode entitled "Space Hooligans" here on our website

  • Secondly, if you want to subscribe on iTunes you can listen to episodes 000, 001 and 002 all right now.

We fell in love with the idea of converting our Monday night game group to Starfinder, and recording our experiences with the game, back in May. We've been hard at work reading all the setting tidbits, crafting characters, and writing back stories since then.

While we are playing the Dead Suns adventure path, our game is going to have a lot of character story mixed in alongside side-quests and extra elements. Even if you have played or watched Dead Suns already, there'll be something cool and new to check out in Cosmic Crit.

We will be releasing a new episode every Monday, and we are going to keep the show clean. While we are cursing on the podcast, it will be along the lines of "Frak" or "Goblin Spit". While a little violent, the show should be something that we think anyone can take a listen to.

Hi Everyone,

I have gone through about 7 sessions so far of Iron Fang Invasion (started playing the week it came out on Roll20) and have gathered a great group to play with. So far this has been one of my favorite APs to run, its straight forward, but as a GM there are enough story lines and things to have a very fun and flavorful campaign. Having 20-30 refugee NPCs seems daunting at first, but populating the band of Phaender survivors and roleplaying their bonds forming with the PC's seems like it will be very rewarding down the line.

So far my game groups consists currently of a Half-Orc Paladin, a human Warlock, a Dwarf Inquisitor of the Green Faith, and half-elf Druid and Bard (if any of you happen to be reading this, wtf are you doing here, spoilers are ahead!). Escaping Phaender took two games, and they have been knocking out events in part 2, random encounters, and protecting the NPCs with aplomb so far. We are almost down with the Troglodyte cave, and I am hoping to finish book one in 2 or 3 more sessions.

I thought I'd share my answers to some thoughts in the thread so far:

This is a good for a few of the encounters in this game. If you want to up the menace level bring the fight to the PC's or the refugees of Phaender. My party will not for the life of them go to the Wolf Lair, so the mite raiding party is coming to their camp. You can do this with a few of the enemies in part 2.

I know that troglodytes (which I often accidentally call trogdolytes---which sounds like trog-delights---much to everyone's amusement) are usually chaotic evil, but just going in and killing sentient beings to steal their shelter doesn't sit right with me. I think that if you want to let your PC's have their cake and eat it too, make two sects or social ranks of Troglodytes. Maybe Ressh and Sesslok are evil warriors caste, and many of the other Troglodytes under Ighiz are enslaved or somehow oppressed. The evil trogs were the ones that sacrificed the Elf, whereas the other Trogs could do nothing but watch the sick ceremony. This allows your PC's to kill some and spare others. If afterwards they want to share the caves with the erstwhile slaves then they can, or maybe the slaves decide to leave on their own.

My PC's are going full Paragon in this section, and so are stabilizing fallen Troglodytes, and are going to reason with Ighiz. I am going to make it a hard Diplomacy check like is suggested in the book, but even if they make friends with Ighiz the Caves are still not in the PC's hands. If they are able to open the Excavator door this will cause another Trog priestess to usurp Ighiz as a false prophet, and take control, leading her people away from the caverns that Ighiz despoiled thus leaving it open for the PCs. Maybe Ighiz will take Handiss and some others and attack the PC's at some point, who knows, but leaving characters open is a great possibility for some revenge plot lines later on.

This is a great suggestion and one that I put in place. Pick a day of the Golarion calendar your festival began in Phaender as 'Day 0', and then mark future evens on it, and use it to keep track of the story so far. We're on day 10 so far

Also, I made up an entire page for NPCs in order to keep track of their names, class levels and relationships to each other and the PCs. Aubrin has a crush on the warlock that tends her wounds, a commoner boy wants to squire for the Paladin, and Lirosa and Taidel have befriended our half-elf Bard

After a while, I had Jett set up a barter/trading post for the Refugee encampment, buying items from PC's for store credit and the like. I am making the encampment function as a Village with a higher chance to find many items. My reasoning is that the refugees got a lot of loot out of Phaender while they escaped, and also can scavenge stuff as they explore the forest, so they have the capability to restock a store. Meanwhile the party can find a good deal of magical loot, don't forget to throw some random encounters in. Use NPC's to brew potions and craft armor, that's what a lot of the NPCs are their for.

It was said before that they pick a cardinal direction, and I make them make a Survival check to find hints of what lays ahead, like Wolf tracks to the north or the clearing with the cabin to the east.

I think the militia should start right away, with Kining Blondebeard or Aubrin leading combat training for the refugees, but have them come together as a unit towards the end of the adventure. From then on out if you throw a random encounter at the refugee's camp sites you can have play around with militia combat in book 2

I think this is fine, but I believe it says he would retreat if he was ambushed to the safety of the hobgoblin camp. This would either make attacking the camp a little harder or the next time he comes out he brings nearly everyone with him to hunt the PC's down. If they can kill Scarvinious, I would make another hobgoblin Sargent take up the banner, and either attack the PC's at their home, or defensively hold the camp, and await reinforcements. Regardless, you should try and force the PC's that the camp has to be shut down.

I hope some of these thoughts we helpful, I'm very excited to start book 2 as it looks harrowing and fun, but if you haven't read book three that's when things really start looking fun in Longshadow.
