Aside from dumping is girlfriend in a fridge because Kyle just HAD to have a tragedy that early Rayner story was pretty good :-)

Or before AND after. But definitely not AT GenCon? That's also possible. Don't assume that because I didn't mention something that it's not possible. So it definitely may or may not happen before, after or during GenCon.
Any chance we could get you to narrow down which GenCon we are discussing?

Making a "HARD MODE" AP that has the PCs facing tough encounters the whole time... that's actually very very very intriguing. I don't know why this possible solution didn't occur to me before... but I'm VERY intrigued.

One thing hinted at is the possibility of some underwater action (aquatic elves as a race, aquatic familiars and animal companions listed, aquatic favoured terrain...) which has me very intrigued.
As for the conversation above, I think Paizo have done a great job about communicating what this AP would be. From the start, I thought it was clear that this was an AP about liberating Kintargo from the rule of House Thrune, rather than bringing them down altogether. Interviews, forum posts and the product pages have all given that impression.
I agree with this.

Vrischika111 wrote: as per RAW (and as lots of people already said) : Cleric provides flank. being noticed by the fighter is irrelevant.
my "point of discussion" would be more on the following :
should the cleric grant flank if the ROGUE can't see it ?
if the cleric is stealthy and invisible and unnoticed and not attacking (while still threatening), then why should then rogue get flanking IF HE DOES NOT see him, does not even know the cleric is there.
if you can get a flanking bonus from someone not-noticed and not attacking, then shouldn't you always be considered flanking ?
Being seen by anybody doesn't matter. What matters is whether or not the conditions for flanking are met. Those conditions are (assuming no feat or class ability shenanigans) two hostile forces on opposite sides of the target. That's it.
If you personally don't jive with this it's cool, just make some house rules and roll with it at your table. But according to the book and any PFS adventures the only conditions that need to be met are the ones that have been listed several times.
Opening up this rules set for "realism" creates nothing but problems. Look at falling rules, what happens when a creature cuts its way out of another's gullet or even just the binary system of 1hp vs. 0hp. It's a game, sometimes you either need to just go with or if you can't find a different game.

Wow... this got rather crowded.
Realism can be determined at your individual tables. As per the rules it doesn't matter how the aware the subject in between two opponents is. The subject is flanked. Anything else is a houserule.

Hey Mark,
Are there any plans to do anything with the elemental races (Suli, Ifrit and such) in relation to the new classes? Specifically the Kineticist? Seems to me they would be exceptionally perfect fits for class but right now their elemental affinity ability doesn't sync well with it.

James Jacobs wrote: Icyshadow wrote: That's not exactly the way I wanted to present that question.
What, would they kill you for having a differing opinion?
Ah well, I won't push it then. I'll try and think of something else to ask.
In this modern age of people issuing death threats on the internet for all sorts of immature and hateful and narrow-midned reasons... it wouldn't surprise me to have someone issue a death threat, no. Whether or not it'd be a serious one or not... it's probably best to take it seriously.
At the very least, it'd hurt feelings and perhaps ruin professional relationships.
It's the same reason parents shouldn't publicly announce which of their children they like the most and which ones they hate the most.
Or to put it another way... what if I revealed who my favorite messageboard poster was, and it wasn't you? How would you feel? Or what if I revealed who my LEAST favorite messageboard poster was, and it WAS you?
And now multiply those feelings by the total number of other posters to these boards.
I obviously DO have favorite APs and least favorite APs, just as I have favorite messageboard posters and least favorite ones... but there's just no way I can publicly reveal who or what those are without hurting feelings or, worst case scenario, making enemies or hurting the company I work for.
So I don't answer "What's your most/least favorite tabletop RPG product?" type questions. Hope that puts things into a better perspective. It's this kind of class that helps keep me a proud Paizo customer. That and the cocaine I think they sprinkle onto the pages of their products.

I will say I don't see what the problem is with Cap taking the hit. He survives things all the time that would kill a normal person. Heck, even the "normal" Avengers do this on a regular basis. Black Widow takes one fall in particular that towards the end that should have at least had her limping.
It's movie with Gods, mad scientists, a man who runs incredibly fast without the need of extra calories and another who can quadruple (just a guess) his mass without the need to actually supply that mass.
Cap taking a hit doesn't seem that crazy to me.

We've actually been using that squirrel rule at our table for about six months now. I was skeptical at first but it's really grown on me as a way of providing a more immersive experience. We're experimenting with electrodes, matches and liquefied sour gumballs for our wizard to apply to himself whenever he uses an appropriate spells.

Hi James, how would you feel about PCs customizing the look of their spells within the parameters of the spell?
For instance a devotee of Desna could have a fireball that explodes into a burst of flaming butterflies while an acolyte of Zon-Kuthon would have one that explodes into a blast of dark purple/ blue flame.
Or would this alter a spell's DC to recognize it and, thus, require some kind of rules implementation like a feat or class feature?

Odraude wrote: In_digo wrote: Seriously, there's people here who will quit playing Pathfinder, JUST because they've released some stuff you aren't interested in? That seems a little over-dramatic. Some people just can't understand that other people have other tastes. So when the company caters to that taste, they think it's not worth the time that could be used on what they like. It's almost like they think it threatens their preferred fantasy. Also, a lot of people have a really narrow minded definition of what fantasy is and don't like to see other people with differing definitions of it.
This happened with Tian Xia stuff, then gunslingers. This will continue to happen until people realize that other people have different tastes and that's fine. And that you don't have to buy what you don't like, but you don't have to hope others don't get what they like.
But that'll never happen. I don't know, I think it's entirely understandable. I know at my table the only characters I've seen for a long time now are Asian-themed gunslingers with katanas for back up.
Now they will all want laser eyes too! it's not as if we can just ignore things we don't like.

I actually chalk it up to the "it could be me" syndrome which we cultivate very well here in the US.
Winning the lottery? It could be me!
Becoming a billionaire CEO? It could be me!
End up with the side effects of a vaccine even though the chances of it happening are incredibly small? It could be me!
Is this sarcastic? Yep, but I see it quite a bit. I also think it's the reason we support the tax laws that we do. We COULD SOMEDAY benefit from them so why should I vote against myself? ...but that's another discussion entirely.

Would anybody be interested in a mechanic that lets the arcanist *push* her body to get improved bonuses out of Blood Focus at the cost of HP or ability damage?
Also, I agree that a more solid and dedicated combination of bloodline/ schools would be an improvement as I think it would provide more flavor and give players a better "hook" for their characters.

Why would we do that when we can engage in rampant speculation based on only a couple sentences?
Sure, we could wait until Tuesday to make an informed and well thought-out decision but we obviously know exactly what a new, 20 lvl base class will be like based on "it's a combo of fighter and monk". There really is no room for creativity there. It can only be one solution to this problem.

One thing to keep in mind:
You describe things cinematically pretty much however you want. You can describe running past enemies and tagging them with your weapon clanging off the armor but by the rules you may only actually be hitting one enemy.
Also, you may want to look into eventually picking up the Whirlwind feat. I think you may dig it ;-)

Hi guys,
I work with adults with disabilities of all levels for my career and have done so for 5+ and before that with children when I was an art teacher.
I can't say exactly if John-Andre's banning was appropriate but in my line of work sometimes folks with disabilities do get banned from places for their behavior regardless of that behaviors is caused by a disability or not. Just last month one of my clients got banned from a gas station for begging for soda from other customers. He received several warnings from the management. When he continued to beg (he has more money at his disposal than I do) the manager enforced her warning.
Real-world consequences do, and should, happen.
For instance maybe this situation was what finally led John-Andre to decide to finally get the help he needs. That is a good result from an unfortunate situation.
Now, with that in mind if John-Andre is getting his bi-polar disorder in-check like he says he is then there should be a trial period but I would wait for a time for tempers to cool and memories to haze over a bit.

Several of the Devs have commented about how stressful it was to decide on what minis to create months in advance of the individual sections of the AP getting finalized. It actually resulted in a cpuple minis getting made of characters that had a significantly diminshed role in the final AP books. I know James has said (and I'm paraphrasing here) that if they never did it again he'd be ok with that.

Well, what kind of water is it? De-ionized water would actually carry no charge at all and could lower the save ;-)
And be careful, as your PCs could easily start running around with buckets of water to douse their enemies and then let the mage blast with heightened DC lightning bolts until the enemies are just little piles of ash.
Honestly, I would just say that because it is magical electricity that water doesn't affect it and move on rather than make an already complicated game more complicated.
