What are your most recent non-Paizo projects? Any chance that you'll show up on Patreon or something like it?

My most recent non-Paizo thing was a short essay for one of Kobold's collections. The Sandy Petersen Mythos book is my largest non-Paizo thing since Elder Evils for Wizards of the Coast.

I've considered starting up a Patreon, perhaps for some short story fiction or Unspeakable Futures development that could perhaps some day lead to a kickstarter, but haven't started one up yet in part due to being busy with other stuff and in part due to nervousness about the whole thing. Would folks be interested in me doing something like that?

Yeah, you can count me in for $01 o $15 bucks/ month. Maybe even $20 depending on what kind of content would be offered. I'm VERY interested in Unspeakable Futures :)

Hmmm... I like that idea. I'll have to run it past the GM but I dig it.

An yeah, concept is coming first here. We're just finishing up Wrath of the Righteous where I'm playing a Paladin and I'm looking for something extremely different. I think this will fit the bill :-)

Why vivisectionist? Other than that I think maybe replace innate magic with moon touched or have you checked out the traits that replace that in the advanced race guide for others that stand out as very "gnome"...hmm

Vivisectionist as I'm not big on the bombs myself and I feel the characters exploration of why he has no magic is going to be involving a lot of surgery and dissection so I thought that would compliment the character well.

I did look at a lot of the alternate traits but the ones I saw that replaced gnome magic simply replaced it with a different kind of magic. I'll double check to see if I missed anything though.

Hi folks,

So, I'm building Gnome without innate magic for an upcoming homebrew campaign set in Golarion (Taldor specifically) and I'm looking for build advice. Here's the basics.

Race: Gnome w/o magic (GM said I could use the race builder to replace Gnome magic, looking for suggestions on what to replace it with.)

Alignment: CN (think a tad aloof, clinical and prone to just testing things on himself)

Motivation: To unlock the magic that he thinks is latent in himself. Possible obsession could be just trying to check everything to see if it is actually magical via UMD.

Class: Most likely Alchemist (vivisectionist). Open to other ideas.

Available material: Anything printed by Paizo is good to use with 3rd party by GM ok.

So, any thoughts?

And thanks in advance!

Don't ask me. Last time I collected anything DC, Kyle Rayner was the only Green Lantern and he was traveling from city to city getting pointers from other heroes on being a hero.

Aside from dumping is girlfriend in a fridge because Kyle just HAD to have a tragedy that early Rayner story was pretty good :-)

Spellstrike (Su): At 2nd level, whenever a magus casts a spell with a range of “touch” from the magus spell list, he can deliver the spell through any weapon he is wielding as part of a melee attack. Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell. If the magus makes this attack in concert with spell combat, this melee attack takes all the penalties accrued by spell combat melee attacks. This attack uses the weapon's critical range (20, 19–20, or 18–20 and modified by the keen weapon property or similar effects), but the spell effect only deals ×2 damage on a successful critical hit, while the weapon damage uses its own critical modifier.

Scenario: I cast shocking grasp and then deliver it through my sword. Do I get a second attack with my sword?

Since the first attack was a free melee as part of the spell. Then I can make a second one with the penalty of spell combat.

Ok, love the bundle ando will definitely be getting it but I have a selfish question. Any way we could "trade" the AP PDFs for ones we don't already have? My guess is probably "Nope" which is cool because I'll still be doing the $25 level. Just mostly curious as there are many of the APs that I don't already have.

I have a buddy who ran a Barb/ Rogue and absolutely dominated with it. The strength combined with sneak attack was a good deal of fun. And, as others have said, the classes synergize surprisingly well.

You may want to incorporate a spear or some other weapon with reach as it allows more flanking option, can help trigger AoO's when enemies pass through your threatened area and, if using Quickdraw, you can just drop it and bring up the axe if needed.

My favorite weapon to use with this combo is actually this.

One thing hinted at is the possibility of some underwater action (aquatic elves as a race, aquatic familiars and animal companions listed, aquatic favoured terrain...) which has me very intrigued.

As for the conversation above, I think Paizo have done a great job about communicating what this AP would be. From the start, I thought it was clear that this was an AP about liberating Kintargo from the rule of House Thrune, rather than bringing them down altogether. Interviews, forum posts and the product pages have all given that impression.

I agree with this.

as per RAW (and as lots of people already said) : Cleric provides flank. being noticed by the fighter is irrelevant.

my "point of discussion" would be more on the following :
should the cleric grant flank if the ROGUE can't see it ?

if the cleric is stealthy and invisible and unnoticed and not attacking (while still threatening), then why should then rogue get flanking IF HE DOES NOT see him, does not even know the cleric is there.

if you can get a flanking bonus from someone not-noticed and not attacking, then shouldn't you always be considered flanking ?

Being seen by anybody doesn't matter. What matters is whether or not the conditions for flanking are met. Those conditions are (assuming no feat or class ability shenanigans) two hostile forces on opposite sides of the target. That's it.

If you personally don't jive with this it's cool, just make some house rules and roll with it at your table. But according to the book and any PFS adventures the only conditions that need to be met are the ones that have been listed several times.

Opening up this rules set for "realism" creates nothing but problems. Look at falling rules, what happens when a creature cuts its way out of another's gullet or even just the binary system of 1hp vs. 0hp. It's a game, sometimes you either need to just go with or if you can't find a different game.

Shadow Lodge

3 people marked this as a favorite.
Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Wow... this got rather crowded.

Realism can be determined at your individual tables. As per the rules it doesn't matter how the aware the subject in between two opponents is. The subject is flanked. Anything else is a houserule.

Shadow Lodge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Yes.

As Bob Bob Bob quoted, the flanking condition doesn't care if the fighter knows if the cleric is there. Only that the cleric is able to pose a threat.

As for "silliness" keep in mind that this is a game that is very combat heavy. Not a simulator. And in a game that is already very rules heavy going into this much minutia at the table could very easily grind things to a halt.

It works with light weapons. Light weapons are finessable.

Benefit: Choose one kind of light or one-handed slashing weapon (such as the longsword). When wielding your chosen weapon one-handed, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing melee weapon for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon (such as a swashbuckler's or a duelist's precise strike) and you can add your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to that weapon's damage. The weapon must be one appropriate for your size.

What I find confusing is that on the PFRD they add the following sentence to the feat;
"You do not gain this benefit while fighting with two weapons or using flurry of blows, or any time another hand is otherwise occupied."

My copy of the Advanced Class Guide does not have that last sentence. I assume there has been an update or something that I missed.

The ACG errata came out last week. There is currently a large amount of... discussion on the material in several threads around the boards.

Reposting this as it looks like it got missed in the OA flurry

Hey Mark,

Are there any plans to do anything with the elemental races (Suli, Ifrit and such) in relation to the new classes? Specifically the Kineticist? Seems to me they would be exceptionally perfect fits for class but right now their elemental affinity ability doesn't sync well with it.

Also, any chance of getting updated character sheets for the new classes? My kineticist sheet is awfully cramped.

Thanks

HI James,

I've been reading through my PDF of Occult Adventures (which I'm adoring) and I'm wondering if there has been any thought to putting out new character sheets that would be better suited to the ever increasingly complex classes? Maybe even class specific character sheets?

Thanks.

Anyone have experience with their product? It looks like this could be really huge and like it might be a really awesome value! But I don't know....

Any advice on if ppl have heard of them, and are backing, and if it would be good or not would be welcome! :D

Hi JamesTheLion,

I've been a part of both previous kickstarters for Reaper and have purchased a LOT of WizKids prepainted Pathfinder minis.

If you're just getting into minis and want to/ have time to paint them then the Reaper Kickstarter is definitely worth it. Especially the paint package add-ons.

Ah well, I won't push it then. I'll try and think of something else to ask.

In this modern age of people issuing death threats on the internet for all sorts of immature and hateful and narrow-midned reasons... it wouldn't surprise me to have someone issue a death threat, no. Whether or not it'd be a serious one or not... it's probably best to take it seriously.

At the very least, it'd hurt feelings and perhaps ruin professional relationships.

It's the same reason parents shouldn't publicly announce which of their children they like the most and which ones they hate the most.

Or to put it another way... what if I revealed who my favorite messageboard poster was, and it wasn't you? How would you feel? Or what if I revealed who my LEAST favorite messageboard poster was, and it WAS you?

And now multiply those feelings by the total number of other posters to these boards.

I obviously DO have favorite APs and least favorite APs, just as I have favorite messageboard posters and least favorite ones... but there's just no way I can publicly reveal who or what those are without hurting feelings or, worst case scenario, making enemies or hurting the company I work for.

So I don't answer "What's your most/least favorite tabletop RPG product?" type questions. Hope that puts things into a better perspective.

It's this kind of class that helps keep me a proud Paizo customer. That and the cocaine I think they sprinkle onto the pages of their products.

I will say I don't see what the problem is with Cap taking the hit. He survives things all the time that would kill a normal person. Heck, even the "normal" Avengers do this on a regular basis. Black Widow takes one fall in particular that towards the end that should have at least had her limping.

It's movie with Gods, mad scientists, a man who runs incredibly fast without the need of extra calories and another who can quadruple (just a guess) his mass without the need to actually supply that mass.

Cap taking a hit doesn't seem that crazy to me.
