Currently thinking of a Halfling gunslinger, carrying along an oversized old musket for his shows, he is half clown, half trick shooter. Making amazing shots but appearing to make them completely by chance.
Are the Abilities limits before or after racial adjustments?

Imagine if you will, a 3 feet tall halfling dressed in an overlong duster and dragging a musket bigger than himself.

He sets an apple on top of his assistant's head and makes her stay 30' feet away from her.

He walks back as he mutters loud enough for the public to hear Hope this one is good, I'm still paying the previous one's coffin

He readies his musket using a chair to hold the barrel steady, takes aim, readies his trigger finger and sneezes loudly, dropping the chair and hitting himself with the musket's butt.

He picks the musket again, staggering as he tries to focus his eyes. He shoots, too high, ridiculously so, his bullet cuts a rope tying a wooden beam, it falls down, crashing against a cage where a monkey was sleeping. The small monkey escapes the cage, gets on the assistant's head an eats the apple.

The monkey smiles, the halfling bows to the public

*Waves back*

Two questions.

  • Are Background Skills used?
  • Starting wealth? Class average?

Here's Arasei pending changes as you see fit

  • Definitely interested. I was thinking of a Tiefling Unchained Rogue (Rake)
She was born in Cheliax, to a peasant family in a coastal town who tried to give her a good upbringing. Her parent being immigrants themselves were already outsiders and she was mistreated by everyone else in town for being what she was. She longed for the freedom of the sea and when the chance came she bluffed her way onto a ship.
If you allow variant heritages I'd like her to be a Rakshasa-spawn. If you don't like it standard tiefling works, or human although I would have to rework the background.

I'll try to have an alias prepared later with a full backstory/personality and her stats.

    Set #1: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 6) = 18 15
    4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2) = 13 11
    4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 1) = 16 15
    4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 6) = 11 10
    4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 2) = 13 12
    4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 6) = 14 13

    Set #2: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 1) = 16 15
    4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 5) = 19 15
    4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 2) = 12 11
    4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 2) = 15 13
    4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 3) = 9 8
    4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 1) = 10 9

    Set #3: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) = 17 15
    4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 3) = 9 7
    4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 6) = 16 14
    4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 4) = 17 14
    4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 4) = 15 12
    4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 6) = 20 16

I was thinking of either a hobgoblin ranger, expelled from his clan for letting unarmed humans escape and covering their tracks OR a goblin alchemist who just doesn't like burning innocents (not that he has anything against burning things or those who he feels deserve it)

I'd be really interested in such a game. I have two different character concepts right now in my head

Allerie is a Sargavan born witch coming back home after a journey to Absalom to study under the guidance of a powerful master. Things didn't go as she expected and now she doesn't feel like coming home but has nowhere else to go. She is frustrated and upset and lacking the social skills she can be blunt and annoying, at least until she finds something to take her mind away from her failure.

    or

Awesome Vic, a gunslinger traveling to Sargava from Alkenstar after his arrogance got him in too many fights. He has a big heart and an even bigger ego, he calls himself Awesome Vic although his true name is Victor Kanshare. He is travelling to the Mwangi Expanse through Sargava looking for the adventures that will make him as famous as he deserves.

If any of them seem to fit the campaign please tell me so I can expando on him and work on the crunch.

    DM Patcher:
Well, the concept I have in my mind is this:
A paladin, born of a paladin, raised to become the most awesomest paladin ever, and he was, for a while. His standing among Iomedae's follower rose up greatly, he was an example of what a paladin must be, he was Good and he was Lawful, he obeyed his superiors and yet managed to never fail the cause of good. He was well in his forties when his fail came.

He had a nice family, a beautiful maiden he had rescued had married him and given him two sons and a daughter. He had been given command of a fortress near the Worldwound, several hundred armed men at his orders. He was respected and admired by Iomedae's clergy. He was loved by those under him. He had everything a paladin can ask for, and he lost it all.

A night after receiving some guests come from the distant south he was awoken to find his fortress razed by strange creatures, he killed many, but with each hit he received he felt weaker and weaker. He saw men he had been training since childhood die, he saw his wife take her own life to avoid being captured, he saw his elder son surrender and being beheaded by his enemies.

He survived, he doesn't remember how, but he knows something he is no longer the paragon of paladinhood he was. Life has taken his toll, and when there was a beacon of light who shined upon his friends now ther is a flame of vengeance. He is much less powerful than he was, he doesn't have the support he had, but he is still a paladin, Iomedae is the only one who hasn't left him.

His code is simple, never hurt or allow good people to be hurt, fight evil when victory is achievable, learn about evil to make that victory achievable, honor his word as Iomedae has kept her towards him.

He drinks, he swears, he has bad bodily hygiene, but he is Good, he is Lawful, and he will not be caught unguarded again.

I know the code should get more work but the basics are there, he is not a shining knight anymore but is certainly a force of good. His memory has big blank spaces that would be filled as he recovered his lost power (leveled up)

Have been wanting to play him for a long time, and think this game would fit him, not the leader anymore, but the right hand that can help that leader not to make his same mistakes.

I have an idea that I think would fit the game quite well but I'd like to hear about your position on to issues before getting to work on it.

    DM Patcher:

How do you feel about age mods? No trying to min-max at all but the idea I have fits an older man better than a young one. Would you allow to ignore them, would you enforce them or just disallow older characters?

How do you feel about paladins? I've seen DMs who expect all paladins to be holier than thou mor*ns or fall, my idea is a paladin who despite being honorable and fair has some trouble with authority and a seriously mean streak to him.

I'd be really interested in this, I am DMing a game based of Kingmaker and placed in the River Kingdoms so I'm familiar with that area if you go for it. Would it start as a lvl. 1 campaign?

I'm thinking of a fighter (tactician)

He is a student of the great tactical deeds of the Empire, he considers himself half-scholar and half-fighter. Personality-wise he would be a very easy going person about most matters but have a very serious side when a fight comes. He would sometimes try to direct others in battle but will accept that he is not a general and the other party members are not his soldiers.

Mechanically he would be a fighter with several weapons and a penchant for using the most adequate for each situation. If there's any kind of weapon that was typical of the Empire he would most probably have a preference for it but not be oblivious to its weaknesses. He would take a defensive approach to most fights until he can asses his enemies.

    His rolls would be
    3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 6) = 16 17
    3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3) = 13 16
    3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) = 9 13
    3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) = 12 16
    3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16 18
    3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12 16

    Hope he gets your interest!

Once more Evenor's befuddlement crosses his face They are celebrating? But why? Don't they realize they are most certainly facing their deaths? He approaches the halflings and asks them Is this some kind of cultural tradition or are you just daft?

By the way, congratulations to those already in and good luck to those still waiting. I must say that Mrdarknlight is a a great choice and a very enjoyable player, I really like his character Cyean in my Unexpected Rulers game

Evenor looks at those around him, a perplexed look in his face... So many people willing to defend the weak, and I was so bold as to think myself unique he stares at the horizon as his mind wanders back home...

@DM Locke: As I remember Shevarash was a god really obsessed about revenge against the drow, and since Evenor has never seen one he can hardly feel that hate, although he KNOWS drow are evil. Hoar being a lawful god seemed like a counterpoint to Evenor more chaotic tendencies, he isn't a lawful character but thinks that evil must be punished, and that punishment must be just or else the punisher takes the risk of becoming evil himself.

I had thought of taken Humanoid (Human) as favoured enemy since humans form the bandits and rogue soldiers groups he has fought against in the past.

DM Locke: Is there anything else I can add to Evenor? Is the background I posted alright? Any suggestions to make him fit the campaign better?

There is a common language in the Realms

About Evenor's relationship with the gods, he has faith in the Seldarine and offers them prayers if the situation fits it, but his patron deity would be Hoar (he sees him as a deity of just punishment and poetic justice more than a vengeful god)

    Spoiler:
Born to a half-elf and an elven woman Evenor was surprisingly well treated by her elven family. He grew up in Suldanesselar, an elven city inside the Forest of Thetyr. Since a young age he showed an interest in the arts of the bow and the hunt. He was trained to become one of the guardians of the city, a great honour in a city known for it's isolationism, when he was 20 he was assigned to a diplomatic mission to meet the Tethyrian king's representatives, it was a trap.

The party was ambushed a few miles away from Suldanesselar but had no trouble dispatching their enemies, yet, they decided to take a rest to tend their wounded. When in the morning of the next day they arrived to the rendez-vous they found nobody there, after a few inquiries they discovered there were no more Tethyrian kings to trat with, and so decided to retire back to Suldanesselar, away from the fickle minded humans matters.

But Evenor felt, for the first time in his life, the pull of his human blood, he needed to know more, not with decades of study, but by taking part in the now and then. He was allowed to stay but was warned that if he didn't come back to Suldanesselar in a fortnight he would be considered unclean and not allowed to enter the city again.

During that fortnight Evenor faced the horrors of war, saw the weak submitted to the will of the evil and undeserving but powerful, he saw a world imperfect that the good elves of Suldanesselar didn't care about. He was befuddled, he was angry, he was scared.

Yet he came back home, he met the clerics in search for an explanation but the one he as given sounded hollow, he asked his mother and she repeated the same words, he asked his father and... and while he repeated the same words he saw the fire in his eyes, his father was born to a human woman and felt for his half-kin, he understood.

That made Evenor convinced that he was right. During the night he left the city and went to nearest human village, there he found the location of their oppressors, a bunch of drunken bandits... and slayed them in their sleep. Since then he has been fighting to keep the weak safe from the evil, but with every night his arrows take a life he feels emptier in his soul...

    Then one day...

Here's the crunch of the Ranger, I'm thinking of taking the skirmisher archetype since none of the nature oriented gods fit the idea I have for him. If that's alright DM I will get to the fluff soon.

A question, which domains/subdomains should I choose from for the Cleric of Tyr?

I love the Realms and this game seems pretty cool. I have aa couple of ideas; a bounty hunter, a ranger specialized in hunting bandits, rogue soldier and others that put the good people of the Forest Kingdom at risk. or a Cleric of Tyr, trying to keep justice alive in a land where the powerful don't hace time for it.

I'm thnking of a LG Cleric of Tyr, somebody that faced with the bhaalspawn would feel heavily conflicted.

I love BG2, I am interested, could you please expand on character creation rules? (Point buy, traits, etc)

I have an idea for a wizard, an individual obsessed with prophecies, specially those about Aroden and it's return who one day found an obscure verse in an ancient and probably forged prophecy that clearly talked of him, Evenor Timaeus the Fatetouched. I'm not sure if he should be a Diviner or a Universalist with preference for divination spells in his books. I'll try to expand on him later. What do you think?

I'm guessing this will be PbP, if so I may be interested, could you expand a little? Classes, races and sources allowed? And a bit of background wouldn't go amiss neither

    Quote:
I do! I've never had that many people want to join one of my games! I blame the AP...

Then get on the KM train I for one have several concepts I didn't submit here to avoid flooding the thread! ;)

Well I'm about to start a KM campaign as the GM but I'd love to get a chance to play in yours. I can perfectly separate character knowledge and player knowledge. So if you don't mind it I'd be interested in playing as a Cavalier and will get back to you with a background soon.

I have a magus in mind, should I submit him and see if it would it do the trick or are you looking just for full casters?

Don't want to be the rules lawyer, but Scar can draw one weapon as part of his move action (everybody with a BAB +1 or higher can)

    SPECIAL ABILITIES
    --------------------
Armored Casting (Ex) You can cast bard spells while wearing light armor and use a shield without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance.

    Bardic Countersong

Bardic Knowledge (Ex) You add +1 to all Knowledge checks any may make all Knowledge skill checks untrained.

Bardic Performance You are trained to use the Perform skill to create magical effects on those around you, including yourself if desired. You can use this ability for 14 rounds per day. Each round, you can produce any one of the types of bardic performance that you have mastered. Starting a bardic performance is a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. Changing a bardic performance from one effect to another requires the bard to stop the previous performance and start a new one as a standard action. A bardic performance cannot be disrupted, but it ends immediately if you are killed, paralyzed, stunned, knocked unconscious, or otherwise prevented from taking a free action to maintain it each round. You cannot have more than one bardic performance in effect at one time.

Cantrips You have learned a number of cantrips, or 0-level spells. These spells are cast like any other spells, but they do not consume any slots and may be used again.

Countersong (Su) You can counter magic effects that depend on sound (but not spells that have verbal components). Each round of the countersong you make a Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet (including yourself) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use your Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a noninstantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use your Perform skill check result for the save. Countersong does not work on effects that don't allow saves. Countersong relies on audible components.

Distraction (Su) You can use your performance to counter magic effects that depend on sight. Each round of the distraction, make a Perform (act, comedy, dance, or oratory) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet (including yourself) that is affected by an illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack may use your Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform skill check proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the distraction is already under the effect of a noninstantaneous illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it sees the distraction, but it must use your Perform skill check result for the save. Distraction does not work on effects that don't allow saves. Distraction relies on visual components.

Fascinate (Su) You can use your performance to cause up to 1 creatures to become fascinated with you. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear you, and capable of paying attention to you. You must also be able to see the creatures affected. The distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents this ability from working. Each creature within range receives a Will save (DC 14) to negate the effect. If a creature's saving throw succeeds, you cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes your performance for as long as you continue to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a -4 penalty on all skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect. Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability. Fascinate relies on audible and visual components in order to function.

Fearless (Ex) Halflings receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against fear. This bonus stacks with the bonus granted by Halfling Luck.

Halfling Luck (Ex) Halflings receive a +1 racial bonus on all saving throws.

Inspire Courage (Su) You can use your performance to inspire courage in your allies (including yourself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive your performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. Inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.

Keen Senses (Ex) Halflings receive a +2 bonus on Perception skill checks.

Sure-Footed (Ex) Halflings receive a +2 racial bonus on Acrobatics and Climb skill checks.

Weapon Familiarity (Ex) Halflings are proficient with slings and treat any weapon with the word "halfling" in its name as a martial weapon.

    The fluff:

Born to a family of slaves in Cheliax, Deslin was since very young age taught the arts of theater, song and dance to entertain his owners. His parents felt very proud that his son had been chosen to the honor, as they called it, of being alongside their lords when they wanted to have fun, instead of having to perform some menial and tiring labour.

Since the first day his tutor punished him for trying to improvise he longed for the day he would have the freedom to create his own music. The day his training was complete and he had the chance to amaze his lords with his great talent and creativity. But that day would never come. He was considered the best singer in the city, other noble families asked for his services in their parties and paid his ownes highly for them, in money and favors, but yet, he was restricted to the same old songs over and over. He grew bitter, he started to question his parents loyalty to those who had taken away their freedom.

Then the day came, during the summer the noble family who owned him, sent him to a summer manor near the Andoran border. He expected people near the border to be more receptive to his innovative creations so after several succesful performances he decided to go for it. He sang a song about freedom of mind, about the great things anybody could achieve if given the chance... everybody stood silent during the whole song... he saw tears in the eyes of some slaves... then a terrible silence for a few seconds... and then shouts, they called him a traitor, a rebel, an Andoran lover. They beat him, tortured him, his voice was broken many times, and all he could dream of was escaping. One day his old owners went to visit him, they berated him for all he had cost them, the effort they had made in his formation as an artist. His fathers came alongside them, but they refused to share a word with this "betraying shame".

And he snapped, something in his mind broke that very moment, he had still held a little hope that these powerful people could come to understand his longing for freedom was a creative wish, not a political one. He then understood that powerful people are just as stupid as the slaves who accept their fate, they couldn't understand his love of music went beyond anything else, even when they had instilled it. He bit his old lady, he ran, and ran, and jumped into a river...

He woke up several days later, in a cottage on the other side of the border. He was told his life was his now. He decided he would enjoy his music and add as many experiences to his life as he could so he could create better songs. He started singing in taverns across Andoran, and when he grew tired of it he embarked a boat to Absalom, the gratest city in the world.

Will you be allowing traits? If so, How many? From which sources?

I'm interested. I'd want to play as Deslin Swifthand an halfling bard (probably CG). Will expand later if you're interested.
I have two questions, how often would we be expected to post? How many PCs would there be in the party?
And I think it's just fair to let you know English is not my native language, and this would be my first PbP game.

I wouldn't mind getting a chance to play Serpent's Skull or Legacy of Fire, and I'd love to play Kingmaker, I am currently DMing it and the players seem to be having such a blast I feel jealous, I'd do my very best to act ignorant. So if I don't get in this one I'd be willing to submit an application for the other game.

    DM Acid:
His Oracle curse is Wasting and the lose of his good looks is one of the reasons for his low sel-esteem. The curse manifested for the first time immediately after murdering his parents and so, he feels he's been punished for what he did.

He gained his powers at the same time but he didn't understand them, he was scared and felt revolted for he felt his spirit filled with life, and he even thought he had stolen his parents' souls. The first time he used them was several months later, he was starting to regain some confidence and trying to meet some of his relatives and acquaitances but he felt his appearance would scare them away, and suddenly in his mind he coul see how to create an Obscuring Mist. This way he learned everybody thought his parents had just retired after that last performance and the fact he acted so misteriously and tried to keep hidden from sight just was an effort to add to his parents' legend.

He's not a loner, he tries to keep contact with his friends and relatives and wouldn't mind joining a group with similar motivations (ie. fighting the corrupt and decadent nobility) and putting the powers his curse has given him to good use.

Well, I have never played in a PBP game, but I've wanted for some time. Hope I get a chance. This is the story of Anders Besper, or as he'd be called Anders Rottensoul.

He's a Chaotic Neutral Oracle of Life, with very low self-esteem, and a wish to fall vengeance upon the corrupt aristocrats of Cheliax.

English is not my first language but I think I speak it quite fluently.

    DM Acid:
This is my story, the tale of a man whose body was disgraced by gods unknown for reasons I can't imagine.

I was born to a famous and talented couple of thespians, under the pseudonym Lord & Lady Besper they visited the most prestigious theaters of Cheliax. Since the day of my birth I was taught to act, and I was really good at it, the talent I had inherited from my parents was obvious and my own wit made me a very valued actor on my own. The world was at my feet and then...

Then the big break came, my parents were offered a job in a private play for some of the most opulent and decadent nobles in Westcrown. Little did they know it was one of the so-called Theaters of the Real They used their contacts among the theaters in the city to get me a chance to act alongside them, for they expected to retire with the money they had been offered, and wished to act in the same stage as their son in that day.

The day of the performance I was called apart by one of our employers who said he wanted me to make some lesser changer to my role in the play, I went with him and... and I don't know what kind of evil sorcery fell upone me for the next thing I remember is my hand, my hand covered with the blood of my mother, her eyes devoid of life, the corpse of my father, beheaded a few feet away, and my own skin gray and rotten. The crowd cheering, applauding the loathsome show. I ran, I ran, and I Only stopped running when the tears threatened to drown me.

So I became what I am today a hideous monster where once there was a handsome young man, a vessel of life who's taken the lifes of his loved ones. There are those who would call me an oracle, I prefer to acknowkledge the truth and call me a cursed waste.
