It's funny, the game has already gotten better in the almost-three months since EE began, but people still like to make a point to come onto these boards to slam the game.

Personally, I think the game has mostly room for improvement, it's definitely far from perfect, but I love the vision for the game and I see where it's going. It will take time for it to get there, of course.

I hope GW/Paizo has planned their finances such that this game can at least survive long enough to get to the point where it has enough content that one could say it's ready for a release that is closer to the amount of content with which other MMOs release. Then we could start to see whether the game continues to grow incrementally enough to be sustainable, or whether it appears that the writing is on the wall, as has happened with many other MMOs.

But to come here and spew a highly subjective opinion that the game "won't get any better" is in poor taste, in my (also highly subjective) opinion. The game is not for you in some way or another, we get it. Please take your money elsewhere and stop coming back, trying to poison this community.

we are talking about "the grass", it wont get in a state cool enough for us anytime soon.

dirt words are part of life, or better yet, are nothing but sexual body parts, ill side with pino and say explain to ur kids what they mean and move on. there are far worse words like famine, assassination, pedophilia, etc.

I guess it is due to alpha fatigue, I would understand the boot coming down on stuff like in my second post above, but stoping on reasoning about future developments.... just comes down as .... Smallminded or something.

I like all the concepts the players are suggesting you show, but the graphics at this point are soooo primitive and 1994 looking I'm afraid you'll scare people away.

or better, renderize some our playerbase and pretend they are all happy trolls rolling in the grass.

Maybe one of the reasons I "get it" with MvP is because in RL, my work centers around public relations and consulting for restaurants. For as long as I've been in the business most restaurants have gone through the exact same bell curve as AAA video games. All of the promotion and resources go towards a launch date at which time the press judges them and everybody rushes in to try it. Just like AAA games, restaurant launches tend to be disasters. The staff isn't oiled enough, the kitchen just learned how to make the dishes and the customers are pissed before they take one bite because they waited in line for 2 hours. The restaurant opens in a hole because they had to wait extra months paying rent to open and they often live or die based on the reviews they get in that opening week.

More and more of the veteran restaurateurs have moved in the opposite direction with ever softer openings. The restaurant opens with barely a facebook page and only friends and family are let in for an entire month or two. They won't even have a liquor license in place (the PvP of restaurants) and they serve a limited menu that constantly gets tweaked based on feedback. No media, no reporters unless they are friends. They let the crowd grow gradually and then host an official launch when they are good and ready.

Maybe it's the holistic economist in me, but I think all of this is the correct way to create a niche product. The only very real danger GW faces is that the mass media hates this format with a passion. It emasculates their power and debunks the fear myth they use as a selling point. Mass media has spent decades propping the launch/review dynamic and has a good portion of the populace believing the BS that this is the proper way to do things, because they would rather skewer their clients at "launch" than actually help create sustainable businesses who might dare to think they don't need advertising (bS again, everybody needs some smart $$ invested in advertising).

I consider EVE's system to be flawed. The fact that you can just pay for training, logging in increasingly infrequently as you train skills that have longer and longer windows, and doing nothing when you conduct those periodic logins to reset your skill queue is, in my opinion, bad for the game.

In fact, the reason that EVE did not even have a skill queue until Apocrypha was because the designers understood that forcing players to log in regularly was a necessity to keep them engaged with the game. The compromise for the current skill queue design was hard fought and many people still think it was a mistake.

The risk is that players who are paying, but not truly engaged, are fragile. They're more likely to quit than someone who has something meaningful to do in the game on a regular basis. It's much easier to say to yourself when you look at your monthly credit card bill "why am I paying this $15 for doing nothing?"

Infrequent logins also mean that player's clients become woefully out of date very quickly, which can generate all sorts of customer service headaches. It also means that if your credit card fails to bill for some reason and you ignore emails about the problem (most such emails are ignored) you may in fact not be getting the training you thought you were getting and when you do log in, finally, and discover that due to a payment failure you missed months of skill points, it's pretty easy to imagine that you might just quit right there on the spot.

this means we have 2 legit paths, with gating and without gating, which one would provide more revenue in the end? Ryan seems to think that the "gating one" will, also he have more experience and know all than all of us together, even so i believe the no gating one would provide more money in the end.

maybe trading damage for interesting effects.

if someone says my idea is stupid ill feel insulted. there are a lot ways of saying you dont like an idea, some even gentle(then better ones). Also there are a lot of more worrying issues than "archery rooted or not".

im not really worried about the graphics, but why the game is so system demanding and sluggish? sometimes i think they should convert it to isometric or tophead view.

This is what i call "Emergent Goblinplay"

Thank you Thadaus and Mavrick!! will give to a friend the second one,. :)

No. We aren't saying "That is funny, but also offensive." We are saying "That is empirically harmful and has no redeeming artistic or academic nature."

just a reminder, murder and slavery are trauma triggers too. the guy shooting naked ppl of their own sect with a shotgun was more offensive for me than the "goofy rape animation". if this happen in game ill be fighting against, but to say the other 2 are ok and condenm this one is only to combat others posters opinions.

thank you, happy to be here. Ill have a character on circle too, hope that is not a problem. both companies share many goals, imo would be a good idea to merge maybe.

is chaotic evil characters = griefers?( what i mean is if im roleplaying a chaotic evil character and start to grief ppl im perfectly roleplaying a chaotic evil character, its what they do by nature)
isnt a chaotic evil with high reputation in truth a neutral or perhaps a lawful evil?

Bluddwolf wrote:

I'm sure a victory will be claimed when no one rolls their core alignment as Chaotuc Evil, and no one slides to Chaotic Evil.

The shallowness of that victory will be in the fact that characters with other alignments will be motivated by chaos and evil, while hiding behind another alignment and operating within the systems so as not to lose reputation. Motivations are untraceable by either other players or even the game mechanics.

So what could this look like?

The Good Settlement is NG. It has a few POIs and a number of Outposts. Suddenly it is feuded by another company. The Good Seetlement investigates and funds out that it has been feuded by a Lawful Good Company known as Divine Dissonance.

The Goods send an emissary to discover what caused this feud. Their emissary is attacked and killed without mercy or word as to why there is conflict. The DDs then raid the outposts, killing every NPC and anyone arriving to aid the outposts.

The DDs then use a third party, meta gamed to assassinate the leader of The Goods. This is followed by additional raids, and slaughter of any feud targets.

The feud ends and finally the Divine Dissonance contacts The Goods and explains that they feuded the Goods because they wore a red hat on Green Hat Tuesday.

Not one of the actions I mentioned above would cost DD any alignment shift nor lose any reputation. It's motivation was purely Chaotic Evil. Untraceable, undetectable and unpunishable.

Your alignment system is now completely meaningless, but you won't have any Chaotic Evil characters.... Woot!! Epic Fail.

because this is the game being played as intended.

@ Being,

I had posted this in the original thread you mentioned this idea of yours, but I repost it here to get your response:

Quote:

What is so special about the EE crowd (settlements) that we are deserving of such a unified front, against a storm that will not target all but just a few?

Yes Andius had called for a treaty, and we all know its flaws, and he was fried for it as you say.

I had called for the Bigtown approach and to not remain soft in the face of the storm, and I was fried for it.

So I ask again, based on what is this sense of entitlement that EE should be defended against a storm that would welcome many of us to join within its winds?

Those of us that have spoken most loudly on the side of the impending player vs, player conflict, have been fought at every turn, and countered with fears of supposed "toxic" behavior and Care Bear utopian dreams.

I will bide my time, and that of my company, and we will see what EE brings. It will remain to be seen whether or not EE will be a hand that feeds us or one that we shall chop off and join the storm.

Now to address some of the comments here. It is true that we will not have settlement vs. settlement for the majority of EE. This means that both EE and OE groups will have roughly the same experience as players with that system.

Secondly, the EE settlements will likely not even be through the lower portions of tier 2 in either structures, training or crafting. Yes there will be some advantage in being tier 2 vs tier one, but OE will have vastly greater numbers.

Third, of the potential 15 settlements, is the EE "Community" going to plan as a community that all alignments and play styles are being served? I already suspect that is not and will not be the case. Those EE companies or even settlements being left outside of that inner circle will be open to helping usher in OE entities, why wouldn't they?

Finally, for those that think the way to prepare for a hurricane is to build a house made if wet tissue paper. A...

we dont need a "phisical" place just the same mindset and will to enforce the "spirit of the game" in times of need.

you post suggest that some ppl from the EE will embrace a greater power even if their intent is disruptive towards the good sportmanship (to not say grief/toxic)and i can already imagine the their thought " we arent toxic or griefers and we dont care if our allyes are, as long we profit from the relanshionship"
