This Shield of Rannick adventure path uses the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game—Rise of the Runelords Base Set and all six of the Rise of the Runelords adventure decks.

You can use whatever you'd like to make your character and your deck. Check out the PbP ACG thread for help with your deck handler. We will make use of Discord for day-to-day communications in this game: HERE

A quick rules note: though the adventure deck cards are all pre-Core, we will be incorporating Core cards in your decks (I envision), so we will be leaning to Core rules. Any adjudication of these rules will be my responsibility, but I'll take suggestions into account. I just want a fun and fair game.

Kia ora koutou! (Hello, everyone!)

I'm Dinketry, a New Zealand based Pathfinder buff. I've been on these boards playing games for a long time, and back in the pre-COVID years, I was a huge Adventure Card Game fan before its decommissioning. Time moves on, but gosh this ACG is so much fun. I've been lucky enough to have an IRL Shackles game for a few years and I've recently re-discovered my PbP ACG groove thang.

And on the Discord Organised Play boards, some lovely soul (shout out to Dad of Destiny!) told me that Ron Lundeen had designed alternate-universe uses for the first three ACG play sets with fully-fledged adventure paths using the Pathfinder Infinite portal. It didn't take me long to spend a few golden coins to purchase the three Lundeen ACG APs.

This is the first one, using the Runelords base set. I've reached out to the ACG org play team (they're still around!) to see if they might look into making certain that all will work for this using the BR website (acg.orgplayonline.com) but.....

I'm ready to take submissions for recruitment. Wanna dust off your deck boxes and try out a character? Can't find your deck boxes? Don't even own deck boxes?

Here's the thing - since the ACG doesn't have official support anymore, the old rules saying that you need to own the class deck/ultimate deck to play on PbP is no longer in effect. Additionally, all character options are valid, even those in big box sets. You can use a Class Deck + 2 adventure packs, or any character + 3 adventure packs. Or a class deck + an ultimate deck. Not sure how to use pre-core cards with core rules or vice versa? Here's the conversion guide. You get to choose which version of any card you use that has both a core and pre-core version when you build your deck. Wanna use a promotional card? Guess what - you don't need to own a physical copy anymore. Of course, you'll need to be the right tier (level) to use that promo card, but things are easy peasy Ekkie squeeze nowadays.

I must shout-out to my fellow ACGeeks - TColMaster, Bigguyinblack, and Matsu Kurisu - for re-stoking my fire for this game. Let's give this a go and see if we can make it work! I'll be playing a character at this table, so I'm recruiting for the first 5 people to put their name down. Experience be damned!

Your hapless comrade Edron Rannick has learned he is a long-lost noble scion and hereditary ruler of remote and mysterious Fort Rannick. You must help your friend oust the false claimants to his lands, purge the town under his charge of monsters and murderers, and host a treacherous convocation of powerful wizards. Yet Edron’s secret heritage may ultimately doom you all, as ominous portents rock the land and the enigmatic Sign of the Sihedron grows in strength and influence.

If this is your first time seeing this, dot and delete, please!

Hey y’all - I’m hunting the Curse of the Crimson Throne promo cards. The Real Rabbit Prince, Asyra, The Unveiling, and The Tall Knife.

Don’t see any on Ebay. Anyone got a lead on them?

Looking to add catharsis mage dedication at 2nd level to my investigator (does not already cast spells, but has the CHA prerequisite). As such, I would get to choose a cantrip from a spell list of my choice.

Trouble is in the wording of the Remorse Catharsis. Two problems, in fact:

  • The benefit I'd get would be - Emotional Fervor: Any spell you cast that restores Hit Points to the triggering ally gets a status bonus to the Hit Points healed equal to the spell's level, or double the spell's level if the ally is at 0 Hit Points. There are no cantrips that restore HP, so this is useless to my character at this point - am I right?

  • The second question is in the wording of the second half of that emotional fervour listing: Any spell you cast that restores Hit Points to the triggering ally gets a status bonus to the Hit Points healed equal to the spell's level, or double the spell's level if the ally is at 0 Hit Points. The trigger for this emotional fervour is when an ally within 30 feet (the triggering ally) drops to 0 hit points, so it doesn't seem the above statement makes sense at all. The triggering ally has dropped to 0 HP. Any spell I would use to restore HP should get double the spell level, right?

This archetype dedication fits nicely for a roleplaying aspect of my character in the game its in, but it doesn't look like it provides any clear benefit. In addition, the language seems to be confusing. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading.

    Hallo everyone!

I've got a proposition for you. Have you watched the live-action Disney Aladdin film recently and said to yourself, "Gosh, ME, I'd love to get into a PbP Pathfinder 1e Adventure Path involving genies and magic lamps and flying carpets and monkey familiars....."

No?! Ok, must just be me, then.

ANYWHO, I've been running a 4+ year PbP Legacy of Fire AP campaign here on the Paizo boards. We've got five long-term players and I'm looking to add a sixth! No one has dropped out; I just want to mix it up now that they're starting Book 2!

As I said, we have just started Book 2 of this AP. All of the players are 5th level and that's where you'd come in. Here's the breakdown of the team:

    Suli Bloodrager
    Aasimar Oracle of Vildeis
    Gnome Sorcerer
    Gnome Aerokineticist
    Human Flamewarden Ranger
As you can tell, I'm open to non-standard races and classes, but no 3rd party sources, please. We are not using background skills, and you get a 15pt ability score buy with a 4th level ability score boost. I've asked previous submissions to strongly consider the campaign traits in the Players Guide, but it's not a deal-breaker if your character does not include one. Yes, you can have a drawback, but we will lean heavily on it. Your character will have ~10,500gp worth of gear, with no more than ~50% of that represented by a single magic thing (item/weapon/armor).

Now, on to some more interesting aspects of our game. Two of our gamers are children - not even in high school - and they bring an energy and zest that gives our game a joyous feel. That being said, if you aren't comfortable with gaming with children (or your filter doesn't allow for it), then this isn't the game for you. We also have a relaxed posting style befitting the very busy lives that we all lead (hence gaming for 4yrs and only being at the start of Book Two). We have a Discord channel that we use to discuss things, and if you're the right submission for us, then we'll give you access to that.

I'm one of the Pathfinder Society VCs from New Zealand; I'm originally from the US where I was a VC (Asheville NC) prior to moving down under-er a handful of years ago. Regardless, this is the longest-running game I've run on these PbP boards - this is a long-term commitment for the right person.

Who is the right person? We prize flavour over crunch to be sure, but we don't like soggy cereal. We would like your character to be a solid build - and a prepared caster and/or Swiss-army-knife skill-bot would not be the wrong build for our team. We really want a good backstory though, and the ability to play that story through your character.

I'm happy to field any questions. I'll do a short recruitment here and leave this open for the next 120 hrs. In other words, submissions will close at 1000AM on 1st September GMT +12 (i.e. that's 31 August for most of you in the western hemisphere).

    Good luck!

    Hello!

I ordered a Starfinder Core Rulebook as part of this order. When it arrived at my house in New Zealand, the order manifest indicated that the Starfinder Core Rulebook was a part of that shipment, but there was no Starfinder Core Rulebook in the package.

The order has been listed as complete. I don't have the Starfinder Core Rulebook.

I have emailed the CS email 2 weeks ago, but I haven't received any confirmation of that email or a reply.

I've sent another email, but I'm now resorting to this forum as well.

    Thanks!

Why, hello there! I’m GM Dinketry. Welcome to my corner of the Paizo boards. I’m recruiting for a Level 1-4 scenario. Consider yourself invited!

I expect common courtesy, a posting rate of around a post a day (with some leeway during the holidays), and a go-getter spirit. This will be an urban investigation, so consider your dunewalker druid to be a second-tier choice for this game.

I’d like to highlight that kobold characters are VERY WELCOME to this game.

I’m going to be picky with this recruitment. Bake me a Christmas or Chanukah (or non-holiday) virtual cookie of your choice. I don’t care to know what character you’re bringing. DON’T tell me about your character; tell me about my virtual cookie. I’ll recruit until I’m satisfied (or I have a tummy-ache, whichever is first).

Good luck and get (virtually) baking!!!

Your adventure begins in Eto, a bustling settlement on the Golden Road in Osirion. You may have recently arrived with one of the caravans, or you might have already spent a few days in the trade city. You even be the rarest of birds in this trade hub: a native. Regardless, at the end of another sun-drenched day you find your mug filled with a refreshing beverage of your choice from your stool in The Bent Coin tavern. The hubbub of the inn promises camaraderie, people-watching, and other forms of entertainment. The tavern maintains a bulletin board where caravan merchants often advertise to hire guards, drivers, and other employees. You find your eyes occasionally glancing towards the bulletin board, hoping for the appearance of a possible employment opportunity.

Please describe your character, what you’re doing (and drinking), and any thing else you’d like to put in an intro. We will hold until all six of you have had a chance to make an entrance.

    Here's our landing/launching pad for out-of-character conversations.

I like to keep my expectations light and breezy. Post when you can and let us all know if you're not going to be able to post for longer than 24hrs in advance so I can fire up my bot. Be considerate of your fellow gamers. Keep off-topic talk in the Discussion thread. We're here to fire up natty 20s!

Please post the following things as part of your first post:

    1.) character name and class/level

2.) your Pathfinder Society ID number including the suffix for the character that you're playing

3.) your starting XP and reputation

If there's a faction that you want to identify as, then let's do that as part of the gameplay (or a private message to me). Bounties don't provide downtime opportunities, so there's no need for any downtime rolls.

I choose to use the Paizo boards for player chat in-game for one-offs like this, but I'm happy to listen to alternatives if there are any.

Now, let's escape the drudgery of the real world for a bit!

Looking for a game to play to escape capitalistic drudgery??

This Bounty is 1st level. You should have a new or somewhat-new (or inexperienced) character.

I will take the first five (or six) players that post interest starting NOW.

We will slot boons and get school items during the game. If there's a faction that you want to identify as, then let's do that as part of the gameplay (or a private message to me).

Hallo! Welcome to my Heroic Level table of City of Shrouds and Sails, the 1st Adventure within the Season of Rotting Ruins!

Gameday VIII runs from August 26 to November 3.

Please read below for some information on how I run my tables. By getting everyone on the same page, we can make the game run a lot more smoothly :)

    Some ground expectations:
    1. Try to post at least once a day in order to keep things moving. If you are going to be unavailable for an extended period of time, please ensure that your deck handler is linked and available for other players, and provide instructions so that other players can bot your turn. I recommend putting the link in your alias Profile, in the Class line. Wrap it in the url tags so it turns into a link -- see "How to format your text" below the reply box for details on how to do that if you aren't sure
    2. Do not wait around for my scenario update posts, just base your turn around the most recent update plus what other players have done since then. I'll get a scenario update out once per day unless there is nothing to update. I'll have other (non-update) posts interspersed throughout the day as needs require.
    3. There are no take-backs or retcons, with exception of invalid plays/turns. Use resources wisely, and keep in mind the other perks you get in Organised Play such as accessory re-rolls and hero points.

    Things that make gameplay smoother:
    1. If a location is shuffled, you can continue to examine or explore cards in it by rolling a die to see which card you examine/explore. No need to wait on me to post an update first with the shuffled deck.
    2. When encountering a card, be very explicit in what card you are encountering. This helps other players at the same location know where you left off so they don't accidentally encounter the same cards that you just got through and have to re-do their turn.
    3. Use your Notes section to describe any cards or powers that can be used to assist other players on their turns and that you are willing to use. If you post that certain cards are available for use, have the card text available somewhere for other players to reference.
    4. When something impacts another player (a power that affects all characters at your location, or you're playing one of their cards), bold that thing so that it stands out.

Things that make deck upgrades smoother:
    1. Write a list of your 2-5 most desired deck upgrades, in order, and roll 1d1000 for each of them. If you have any conditions on the upgrade, such as "I'll take this only if nobody else wants it or if my planned card X is better than anyone else's planned card" make a note of those as well.
    2. That will let us look through those lists and see how we can get everyone their #1 preferred upgrade without lots of times lost in back-and-forth. If people are fighting over an upgrade, the d1000 roll is used to determine who gets it (highest roll wins).
    3. You are free to disregard this and discuss upgrades normally; but try to keep discussions to 2 days at most so that we can move on to the next scenario in time.

There is a discord server set up for this campaign, click here to join it.

    Discord
There is a discord server set up for this campaign, click here to join it. I will need to manually add you to the private channel for the table, as discord's invite links don't let you directly join a private channel. Joining is entirely optional, but highly recommended; it typically speeds things up a lot when people can @mention each other and have an interface for chatting that is easier to use than this discussion thread.

Say Hi to each other here. Get amongst!

    Grand Lodge

Hallo! If you're one of my players, please introduce yourself in character here.

    Grand Lodge

Hello! I'm your BR Dinketry! Welcome to Korvosa!

Or rather, welcome to my PACS (oooh shiny and new!) table for the Cards Against Gnomanity DOS event of Curse of the Crimson Throne!

    *sound the trumpet fanfare*

I'm familiarising myself with all things Harrowed and Cinderish; please check out the new Core rules (as linked in the Campaign Info tab) if you need to do so, as we will be using the new PACS rules for this scenario.

This is the out-of-character thread, so give it some thought and post an intro here. I'd suggest answering the following questions:

  • What's your name?
  • What character are you playing?
  • What's your experience with play by post (PbP)?
  • What's your experience with PACS (Pathfinder Adventure Card Society)?
  • What's your experience with the adventure card game (organised play notwithstanding)?
  • Where are you, geographically? When do you usually post?

As this event is part of a convention, we will be somewhat time-limited, so I must ask that you check the thread daily and post promptly. In order to keep things smoothly running, I'm going to suggest that we all use Discord. Click on this link to get to our Discord channel!

    Traits
    -------------------
Darkest before dawn: Your devotion sustains you when others would fall to despair. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against spells with the emotion, fear, or pain descriptor. Once per day, you can increase this bonus to +4 for a single save, but you must make this decision before you attempt the saving throw.
Elven reflexes: One of your parents was a member of a wild elven tribe, and you’ve inherited a portion of your elven parent’s quick ref lexes. You gain a +2 trait bonus on initiative checks.
    -------------------------------
    Alt Race trait:
    -------------------------------
Blended View: Prerequisite: low-light vision. Half-drow whose non-drow parent had low-light vision might be blessed with a legacy of versatile senses. Characters with this trait keep their low-light vision but also gain darkvision to a distance of 60 feet.
Half-elves can take this trait in place of multitalented.

    Armor of the Celestial Host
    -----------------------------------------------
This bright, silver-and-gold +1 chainmail is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing without betraying its presence. It has a maximum Dexterity bonus of +5, an armor check penalty of –2, and an arcane spell failure chance of 15%. It is considered light armor.
11th Level: The wearer can use fly on command once per day.
13th Level: The armor is +3 chainmail, and the maximum Dexterity bonus increases to +7.
15th Level: The armor is +4 chainmail, the maximum Dexterity bonus increases to +8, and the armor check penalty decreases to –1.

    ---------------------------------------
    Boots of the Elven Spirit
    ---------------------------------------
These elegant, lightweight boots are durable yet soft in texture, being partially made of living leaves and other natural materials. They grant the wearer a +5 competence bonus on Acrobatics checks and allow her to treat the first square of difficult terrain she enters each round as if it weren’t difficult terrain.
12th Level: The boots allow the wearer to ignore the adverse movement effects of difficult terrain entirely.
14th Level: The boots grant the wearer a +10-foot enhancement bonus to her base movement speed, and she leaves no tracks.

    --------------------------------
    Special Abilities
    --------------------------------
Darkvision (60 feet): You can see in the dark (black and white only).
Deadly Aim -3/+6: Trade a penalty to ranged attacks for a bonus to ranged damage.
Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.
Elven Immunities - Sleep: You are immune to magic sleep effects.
Evasion (Ex): If succeed on Reflex save for half damage, take none instead.
Improved Precise Shot: Your ranged attacks ignore the AC bonus granted to targets by anything less than total cover, and the miss chance granted to targets by anything less than total concealment. Total cover and total concealment provide their normal benefits against your ranged attacks.
Low-Light Vision: See twice as far as a human in dim light, distinguishing color and detail.
Point-Blank Shot +1 to attack and damage rolls with ranged weapons at up to 30 feet.
Precise Shot: You don't get -4 to hit when shooting or throwing into melee.
Rapid Shot: You get an extra attack with ranged weapons. Each attack is at -2.
Slayer's Advance (Ex): At 13th level, a slayer can once per day move up to twice his base speed as a move action. He may use Stealth as part of this movement, but takes a –10 penalty to his check for doing so. At 17th level, he can do this twice per day.
Sneak Attack +6d6: Attacks deal extra damage if flanking a foe or if foe is flat-footed.
Stalker (Ex): At 7th level, a slayer gains his studied target bonus on Disguise, Intimidate, and Stealth checks against his studied opponent.
    _________________________________________________________________
Studied Target +4 (swift action, 3 at a time) (Ex) A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.
If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll).
At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the bonuses on weapon attack, damage rolls, and skill checks and to slayer DCs against a studied target increase by 1. In addition, at each such interval, the slayer is able to maintain these bonuses against an additional studied target at the same time. The slayer may discard this connection to a studied target as a free action, allowing him to study another target in its place.
At 7th level, a slayer can study an opponent as a move or swift action.
    ____________________________________________________________________
Track +7(Ex): A slayer adds 1/2 his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks.
Swift Tracker (Ex) At 11th level, a slayer can move at his normal speed while using Survival to follow tracks without taking the normal –5 penalty. When moving at up to twice his normal speed while tracking, he takes only a –10 penalty instead of the normal –20.
Trap Sense +5 (Ex) At 3rd level, a rogue gains an intuitive sense that alerts her to danger from traps, giving her a +1 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps. These bonuses rise to +2 when the rogue reaches 6th level, to +3 when she reaches 9th level, to +4 when she reaches 12th level, to +5 at 15th, and to +6 at 18th level. Trap sense bonuses gained from multiple classes stack.
Trapfinding +7 The slayer gains Disable Device as a class skill. The slayer also gains the trapfinding and trap sense rogue abilities, using his slayer level as his effective rogue level.

    Background:

Half-elf ranger who has run up a large debt with one of the Riddleport moneylenders due to a run of bad luck in the casinos. He'd like to get out of this corrupt little town and make a new beginning but owes more than he can pay, and the moneylender's runners are starting to lean on him a little too heavily. When the meteorite hits, he sees the sky-metal as his chance to pay off his debts and get free and clear.

Lothan and his mother have lived in Riddleport as long as he can remember. His mother, being half-elf as well, has longed to leave Riddleport. She did not want to raise her son in this environment, yet she has never been able to scrape enough money to leave this accursed city.

When Lothan was old enough, he began working as much as possible, doing whatever work was out there, to try and help him and his mother leave Riddleport. He hated the city, hated all these crooked humans running the place and was desperate to get out. He would spend most of his time outside the city, hunting and foraging for whatever food he could find. He felt at home in the wild. He knew that was where he belonged.

He secretly, and against every fiber of his being, went and borrowed money from a "lender". He used that to get his mother out of the city and told her he would be along soon. She was extremely reluctant but Lothan eventually talked her into it. Knowing he needed to pay the money back, he knew there wasn't enough work out there to cover what he owed but he had no choice but to keep looking and find it, otherwise... well, Lothan didn't really wanna think about that.

Lothan is a fairly good-looking half-elf, albeit, ruggedly so. He sports dark hair that travels just past his shoulders. He's got blue eyes, he's clean shaven and carries himself with an air of confidence. He's 35 years old, near 6' tall and about 150lbs.
