DM-Salsa |
Hello there. I'm currently running a Curse of the Crimson Throne game, and unfortunately, I've had two players leave due to real life issues, so I've decided to recruit some fresh players. I'll be posting the character creation guidelines below, but I'd like for you to look at the campaign tab and a few pages of the game to get some information and a feel for the game so you can decide if your comfortable with the play style.
Character Creation Rules:
-15 point Buy
-All Paizo Core (the hardcovers) sans Race Creation Rules. Anything other than core needs to be approved.
-Two Traits + one campaign trait from the player's guide or the Varisia: Birthplace of Legends splatbook.
-Average Gold +125gp
-Max HP at first
You will also need to provide a backstory and what your character does in a typical day. Also please provide the description of an NPC and two locations in Korvosa that your character has close ties to. It doesn't have to be detailed.
I'm looking for players that can post once a day. I want to keep combat moving so I'd like to keep rounds to 24 hours. There's significantly more leeway in the RP portions on this, though posting often then helps as well.
The current party:
-Raina: Human Unarmed Fighter
-Tusilak: Human Evangelist Cleric (Shoanti Shaman)
-Talliree: Gnome Sorceress (Wild-Crossblooded)
I don't mind cheese, but I'm looking for characters and players, not walking statblocks and players. I'm only going to be taking three, and recruitment closes next friday.
PS: Please put all information about your character in an alias and link to it. This helps me, and you can rename/delete the alias if you don't get in. Statblocks that leave out alot of information, or an incomplete alias won't be considered. If I need to GMPC your character for a bit, I need to be able to know what you have and what you don't.
PPS: If you're new to the game, welcome and don't be afraid to ask questions. I'll do my best to answer, and if I'm wrong, someone will be kind enough to correct me.
Good luck and I look forward to what you guys come up with.

I can create whatever is needed. I prefer sorcerers, but I can do melee as needed. Clerics are fine, but I'm not a healbot; I believe clerics can be powerful party memebers.
I don't have 100% internet as I'm deployed, and sometimes it drops out, but I can post daily. I will need to access my materials, and can have something to you about 6 hours.
I don't have the curse book 1 or companion. I will try to find it.
Tam Hardwick |
Tam Hardwick has never been outside the walls of Korvosa.
He was orphaned as a young halfling, when his parents were killed by a plague that swept the city. He lived on the streets briefly until he was "recruited" into Lamm's Lambs. He was a Lamb for three years and a darn good one, but eventually a savage beating by Lamm sent him fleeing on his own.
On the streets he learned to be whatever he needed to be, to disguise himself as needed and to do whatever he needed to do. And he did some things he's not proud of.
Recently he's learned some new tricks: the ability to baffle and befuddle weak minds. He uses his natural skills and odd magical talents to part the rich and well-off from their money. He currently lives in a small apartment in the Shingles, formed when two buildings leaned together and corners met. It's basically a room, with enough room for a cot and a chamber pot, but it's safe, being only accessible through a small window.
These days he's been holed up in his apartment, avoiding the tumult in the streets. Still, Korvosa is his home and he feels the need to defend it.

@Lord_Viper_69: You won't need CotCT book 1 (that's for the GM!), and the player's guide is free to download here.
To everyone applying with bards: bards are awesome, but our cleric actually inspires courage and the like, so keep that in mind with songs that might not stack with him :)
Lord_Viper_69 |
@Raina: If you interpreted me wanting the curse book 1, I was stating I could try to find them. I don't cheat, that would ruin the point of any adventure.
I've read most of RotRL, and I think it was well done, but I wouldn't use that knowledge. The character knows nothing of the world outside of their background and what's presented.
DM-Salsa |
Although you can coordinate and have two effects going at the same time, or draw out IC as long as possible.
And Hey Kishta. How's it going?

All you need is the player's guide. I have all of the books, and we're already through the first part of the first book. Create what you want to play. As Raina said, Party Balance is second to interesting characters. Any info that you would know I would give you, so no need to spoil the adventure.
Oterisk |
I'm a little interested. I've a character who was built for CotCT but it never will be played due to some RL issues. He has a decent history, and I originally made him 25 point buy as my home group allows, but I could make some changes. He was originally an Angel Blooded Aasimar Chelish Deva, the Deva being from Inner Sea Magic, although I could switch him to Celebrity considering you have an evangelist in the group and it's not a hardcover book, although I would miss the medium and heavy armor the Diva provides.
I have been on the boards quite a bit and you guys look like a bunch of fun to RP with.

I'm thinking a roguish type, caster with the Framed trait, or elven something.
To DM:
Rudolph Aegean |
"On a normal day I will venture through midland, all over the city really. I identify those that can "aid" me. I try to find items that will fix up my place, keep things from falling out, plugs holes, and allow me to persist in this thoroughly mismanaged city. I typically stay in the northern sections, but I do like to walk through the hoity toity areas occasionally, see if they try to throw me out or attack me. When I'm tired, or bored, I venture to the Shingles in North Point and play games with the neighbors. The best one we've found is to jump various ledges, just don't fall, Marcus did. He's alive, but has a lame leg now. I've left the main city a few times, and I've learned to avoid the docks, there are some weird druid or animal things there, I can't tell the difference. Is the interrogation over?"
There is much more in the alias profile.
Kishta Feathersmoke |
And Hey Kishta. How's it going?
Hanging in there. Truth to tell, the last few months have been lousy, but things are starting to look up.
Yeah, and I apparently didn't think about how many people might recognize me. Hopefully I've learned my lesson and I can pace myself better.
Hey, these things happen. You get points for handling it exactly right and ending it at a great place to wrap the story -- every other PbP I've been in that died (which is, to be clear, most of them) just died in the middle of the action with no warning.
To everyone applying with bards: bards are awesome, but our cleric actually inspires courage and the like, so keep that in mind with songs that might not stack with him :)
Good to know. Kishta's an Arcane Duelist, so she can also handle herself in the fight.
(Case in point: we're all currently trying to figure out what to do with all the orphans we saved from Lamm.)
The church of Milani is small, but they could take a few, just as they took in me. Come the revolution -- and make no mistake, the revolution is coming, though it take years -- they will be more prepared for the blood in the streets.

DM, I saw there was a tiefling in the game, so I assume they are allowed.
Would you allow the Fiendish Heritage feat altering the heritages and abilities? If so, I've been thinking of a tiefling flame oracle of Saranrae (probably Div or RakShasa based), that I'd like to put together and submit.
I think that feat has been out-moded by Blood of Fiends (I have the book, and yes Tieflings, and Aasimars are allowed, just be aware that there is a heavy Chelish influence in Korvosa, and people will be reacting accordingly.) I'm not going to make you spend a feat on having a different heritage, as that just seems silly.
@Lord Viper: Yes there is quite a bit of RP, though I can't tell you the exact mix, but there's a reason I asked for NPC's you knew.
@Everyone: If you're taking the missing child trait, please tell me the name and give me a description of the kid.

Thanks, DM, and one more question and I should have all the info I need...how about for replacing the Darkness 1/day ability? Can that be selected from that list of 100 variants, or should that be rolled for in this thread? After this last bit of info, I'll put something together tomorrow.

I forgot to add the NPC's, and areas in a list though they were stated in the background. It will be done.
Pasiune Rhade |
DM, here is Gerald's oracle. Thanks for the consideration. I'd be happy to answer any questions or make any changes.

Current Applicants:
-Lord_Viper_69: Rudolph Aegean
-Sylirinight: ???
-Gerald: Pasiune Rhade
-pH Unbalanced: Kishta Feathersmoke
-Oterisk: ???
-Talomyr: Arianna Sirmikova
-James Martin: Tam Hardwick
-Hassan Ahmed: Black Thom
Fixed.
And I forgot to mention, like I always do, we're using the Strain and Injury rules found here. Won't be as dependent on healing, but having the ability to refresh characters in combat is going to be huge.
@Gerald: I'm looking through it now, and the only thing that has me is the age. Most Tieflings live as long as humans at the most, and Rhade is in the old Age bracket heading towards venerable.
As an aside, I find the Aasimar ages ridiculous in Blood of Angels. As a houserule, Aasimars mature at the same rate as their non-celestially blooded parent, but live out the rest of their lives as stated in the book.
DM-Salsa |
DM, I just used the srd for info on tiefling ages. I'm happy to change that to much younger. That won't effect the character at all.
That's all right. I just wanted to let you know that 67 years old is pushing into the place where you're older than Lamm.
Think I'll bow out too. Good luck to those who have submitted entries.
Sorry to hear that. I wish you luck and hope you enjoy whatever games you're in.
