I definitely am interested in this as I have PbP from way back in 2009.

Okay Profile for Puc-Lee is finished.

GM: Please review for any mistakes, thanks. I also put in some contacts under the Willowshore spoiler too.

All: Still trying to figure out which Free Archetype to select, but I suppose I will figure it out as the game progresses. Nomadical's Ritualist suggestion is a good one though.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Okay Tchokuqo Pucle "Puc-Lee"(rhymes with Bruce Lee) is coming along nicely here. Tengu monk specializing in the Dragon Stance. He will start with the Outskirt Dwelling Background. Heritage feat is MountainKeeper Tengu which should come in handy methinks. It allows the casting of the Disrupt Undead cantrip he he.

GM Ladile: Since Puc-Lee is starting with the Outskirt Dwelling background I was thinking of having him dwell near the Fisheries (W22) on the west bank of the Duyue River (north of Area 24). Let me know if that works for you!

By the way, any equipment suggestions are more than welcome here.

Now to work on his profile page...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Present! Planning on a human or tengu monk, borrowing on Bruce Lee heavily he he.

I will give this game a shot. I have a Wizard that I first used with the old adventure Fall of Plaguestone.

HERE is his profile.

I would suggest checking out the Quick Primer for Old School Gaming. That short document basically nails what OSG is all about.

Okay Lewill Deray is finished now. As for how he knows the party he would gladly travel with the rest of you to Grimmsgate -safety in numbers you know. As for why he is heading there he is not as forthcoming. (aka still working on BG).

OK delved into the rules briefly, looks good so far. Thinking about taking the Scribe background, and also the Forgetful flaw.

Still need to rework his crunch and select his spells but that should not be too difficult.

Okay then, like Brainiac I am rather busy so it will take me some time to read the ruleset and convert Lewill over.

I'll stick with S&W if that's OK with everyone.

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:
Happy to switch to Olde Swords reign if that is the consensus.

I actually prefer S&W (or DCC) as a system and not really feeling the desire to learn a new (5e) system.

I will work on my magic user sheet/BG this weekend, he should be ready to go on Monday. Need to brush up on the S+W rules first.

My thoughts on PF1, I suggest keeping it Core book for starters. That way power creep is greatly reduced.

Actually my character Lewill Deray (the magic-user) would definitely hire a guide to travel to Grimmsgate so perhaps Calhoun could be his guide

I was thinking of my wizard character heading to Grimmsgate following up on rumors of a spellbook (or other powerful artifact) located somewhere in the Cretian Mountains. Grimmsgate is his base of operations for now.

I will work on his character sheet this evening.

3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3) = 12
3d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) = 9
3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) = 5
3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6) = 16
3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11

STR: 9
INT: 16
WIS: 9
DEX: 5
CON: 12
CHA: 11

Nice mix there. Going to play a human magic-user.

Gender, even Male/odd Female: 1d12 ⇒ 2

OldSchoolGM: Have you decided where we will be starting out in the Lost Lands yet?

A little clarification here: I meant to make a judgement call concerning skill use by the players (whether you use a hidden die roll or not), not the system you use for skill interactions. With that I also say if the players describe what their characters are doing that should definitely be a factor!

Iam OK with the ability generation method you suggest, but I don't think playing around with skills is very productive. Just make a judgement call and move on :)

Sure I would like to try a S+W game. Definitely want to play a magic user :)

Mirinde stares at Clancy for a long moment, clearly aware of the effect her mark has upon the newly minted priest. Go ahead and scorn me...scorn the Lady who granted you release from your old life. Your decision will have consequences I assure you...

As the party comes upon the strange stone pillar she pauses here a look of curiosity on her face. "Such an odd place for this pillar to be here. What do these symbols portend?"

She will approach the pillar and try to decipher the symbols.

Sounds like a cool adventure, I am OK with the PvP aspect here, let's do it!

As Mirinde prepares for her journey she reflects upon the previous events in her life...beginning after the completion of her studies...

"Gauward, I need your help..." After she explained her dilemma to him he remained unconvinced of her conviction to bind herself to the Blue Lady.

"I don't think this is a wise idea. Surely there must be another who you can join with?"

Yes but none know of my...NEED here. She can help me, I know it!"

"Very well," Gauward conceded. "I will help you."

Now as the ritual took place over the span of a week, each minute felt like an hour, each hour felt like days unending...but finally as the ceremony reached its apex she felt the nearness of the Lady in Blue in her heart, and soul. As she reached out to the otherworldly presence she is only dimly aware of the screams of agony coming from Gauward as she accepted more of the magic into her...

Spell Check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 Spellburn 3 points of STA to increase total to 20.

Cool thanks for the spell descriptions Brainiac!

A couple of questions for clarification here:

1) Does Mirinde simply declare any living soul to her patron when casting Mending? According to the Mending spell description, it only affects non living objects. Maybe a re-roll needed?

2) Is it assumed Mirinde has already cast Patron Bond before the adventure starts, or can this be role-played? If so, should she roll a Spell Check now? Also it sounds like the Lady in Blue would be a natural patron for her, considering her spell selection here.

OK here are Mirinde's spell rolls:

Spell #1: 1d27 ⇒ 15; Mercurial: 1d100 ⇒ 43
Spell #2: 1d27 ⇒ 18; Mercurial: 1d100 ⇒ 3
Spell #3: 1d27 ⇒ 7; Mercurial: 1d100 ⇒ 25

DM Braniac: How did you want Mirinde to select her spells? The Quick start rules say to select randomly, but I have not purchased the Rulebook yet, though I do plan on getting it soon.

Mirinde dreams....the only thing she could see in her mind was her brother's look of terror and she could still hear his screams as he plummeted to his death, just before she snaps to wakefulness.

Gauward gently shakes her awake, "Same nightmare again?" Mirinde sighs, "Yes Gauward, I cannot seem to escape it, no matter the means I try."

The doughty halfling puts on a reassuring smile, "Look we both know our destiny can be altered...even rewritten. The Lady in Blue has shown that. I truly believe..."

"...that Aerond can be saved? I...I want to believe but..."

Gauward points to the white lock of hair which hangs down her face. "No doubts here Mirinde. You know it can be done. If you wish to save him, then your studies of the arcane must begin now..."

Thus Mirinde tackled her studies with a renewed dedication...the studying was indeed long and arduous but time means little to elves...Now with her (admittedly feeble) knowledge gained, she prepares to alter her destiny once more...

Elf traits: Heightened Senses, Iron Vulnerability, Infravision, Immunities (sleep and paralysis)

Lucky Sign: The raging storm: Spell damage

Tough call here, but I think I'll stick with Mirinde the Elf as my PC (with Gauward as a backup).

Luck increases to 11. Mirinde Lucky roll: 1d30 ⇒ 14 The raging storm: Spell damage. That fits beautifully I think.

As for her physical change I would say she now has a streak of white hair that runs through her normally black hair.

Elf HP roll: 1d6 ⇒ 4 8 HP total.

Finally she will exchange the iron dagger she has been carrying for a mithril one.

Once the party has returned to the Lady in Blue's realm Gauward cannot help but wonder if the right choices were made here...but he shrugs and decides to chance his Destiny...but Mirinde beats him to the punch (figuratively)...

Mirinde Wheel Spin: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Gauward Wheel Spin: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Both of the remaining Misfits return back to their reality, both touched in a positive way...yet Mirinde cannot help but hide her despair at the loss of her brother.

Gauward stares for a long time at the elf orphan and then something clicks in his brain for him. "Don't worry Mirinde. We shall do what we can to find your brother and return him to life...there are indeed other realities; perhaps one of them hold the key!"

Gauward smiles in satisfaction at the destruction of the pumpkin creature and turns to leave...only to see Mirinde start to head towards the nothingness (and oblivion).

"NOOO!" he shrieks, "You shall not join him in death! This way...I promise we can restore Aerond to life again!!"

Despite the bald-faced lie here the elf Mirinde decides to grasp at the straw and she makes her way unsteadily towards the hole in the sky...followed by the halfling who is eager to be free of this place!

Gauward rolls to his feet glad to have escaped the terrifying monster. He looks up just in time to see Cyne buy them some more time with his death.

Damn, he held the line...gotta make sure it wasn't in vain...

He sees the others move towards the cage ready to free the prisoner, but one does not move...the elf Mirinde still in shock at the loss of her brother. Moving to her side he rudely slaps her from her shock.

"Look! We can't stop to grieve now! That Jack O Lantern will be on us in a few seconds...we have to hold it off!" He yells into her ear as he prepares his club for the inevitable. "Do you still have that holy water?"

Mirinde nods slowly as she turns to focus on the Scene above. She draws the precious vial, moving as if in a trance...Ready to toss the vial at Cur Maxima once it gets into range.

Figured I need to buy more time here...hopefully.

Scranford I can offer Mirinde the Elvish Sage if you are interested:

The Night before:

Gauward looks over the spear with a great deal of skepticism, "How is this spear supposed to kill that titan? it would be nothing moe than a pinprick to it! I don't care jsut how much supposed...MAGIC it has!"

During Combat

Cyne waves the others on here. "I can hold it off!" He then readies his blade here hoping to at least score a blow here. Cyne wants to ready an attack here to strike one of the tentacles here.

The elf siblings proceed to leap off towards the branch!

Aerond Agility DC 13: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 I don't think he will make it...
Mirinde Agility DC 13: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8 Burn 5 Luck to make it.

Gauward yells "Give me the rope! I'll tie it down for you!" Assuming someone hands him one end of the rope... he then takes a flying leap!

Gauward Agility DC 13: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11 Burn 2 Luck to make it.

Here is what we found, less the spear Mr Wamderful claimed, and the used up vial of holy water…

- 3 usable sacks

- 3 torn sacks.

• A suit of dwarf size banded mail, in need of repair (AC bonus reduced to +4 until repaired).

- 1 suit of human sized chainmail, in need of repair (AC bonus reduced to +3 until repaired). Cyne (He can donate a suit of Leather Armor to the Loot pile).

- 1 suit of human sized chainmail, in need of repair (AC bonus reduced to +3 until repaired).

- 1 suit of leather armor in decent condition, human sized

- 1 suit of leather armor in decent condition, halfling sized. Gauward

- 1 crossbow – the string is nearly rotted through, and it can fire one shot before it breaks. Aerond

- Quiver with 6 crossbow bolts. Aerond

- 1 short sword

- 1 short sword

• 1 beautifully wrought dwarven warhammer in excellent condition.

- 1 vial of holy water Mirinde

• 1 holy symbol (Justicia), made of platinum and copper and hung on a silver chain (1000 gp value).

Sounds like a good plan:

Here are the claims my characters would make:

Cyne: Suit of Chain Mail (he can give his leather armor to someone else)
Aerond: The crossbow w/quiver
Mirinde: Vial of holy water
Gauward: Suit of leather armor (halfling sized)

Gauward shakes his head slowly as he ponders the words, "I dunno...seems like you are making a bunch of rash assumptions here. While I think Karl means us ill-will, I find it hard to believe he is working for the titan or that overgrown pumpkin! Why would he be hiding amongst the rabble here? Makes no sense to me."

Cyne looks over to the 'dwarf', clearly wanting to plunge his blade into his back, but decide to keep a close eye on him for now.

The two elves slowly approach the slkeletal remains a look of wonder on their faces, "Who were these folk? and what of this spear? What does this mean, For Sir-Spear Demon?"

Cyne cautiously approaches the mutant hoping to catch it off guard here...

Shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Mirinde quickly dashes in to try cutting one of its tentacles in half!

Dagger: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Aerond grabs the makeshift club and moves to surround the mutant...

Club[/dice: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Gauward decides to keep a close eye on the other mutants, just to be sure no further surprises await...

"There has got to be a way to lure Cur Maxima away from the cage so we can free the prisoner," Gauward replies, "Reckon we can backtrack to the entrance, but whoever does that would be throwing their life away! Gotta be another way..."

Once Cyne sees the pale freaks his eyes widen in disgust, "Is that how we will look if we stay here? No thanks!"

Gauward listens carefully to the details provided by the dwarf, trying to shake off an intense feeling of despair here.

I KNEW it! No one gets anything for free!

Wiping his brow he responds tiredly, "So now what do we do? Just wait for the next batch of victims to come here, then kill or be killed? I don't like the thought of going mad here...have you ever tried to seek a way to kill that...floating pumpkin?"

Cyne feels the lust of battle overcome him as he hacks wildly at the next filthy human in front of him!

Shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Gauward decides to take a more defensive position here as he steps behind the first rank, awaiting the next opportunity to strike. Not sure if he can Parry here but if so, then that is what he will do.

Aerond swiftly moves to one of the fallen foes and grabs the makeshift club, striking at another one of the humans!

Club: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Mirinde moves up to assist her brother here striking at the same target! If the target dies, then she will strike at a different target.

Dagger: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

"Where did all of these people come from?" Cyne yells as he clumsily returns the attack against the first ruffian!

Shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Geez, can't you tell? This is their HOME!" Gauward retorts in reply as he moves up to assist here.

Staff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The two elf siblings hang back from the fray although Aerond decides to loose his last precious arrow at the dwarf, hoping to score a lucky blow.

Shortbow: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Hearing the woman's agonized screams cut short Cyne pauses here, peering up at the ladder while stepping over the tripwire. "Sounds like they are chasing us down here into an ambush," he mutters to himself. Gauward slips behind the ditch digger nodding silently in agreement. The two elves warily approach, their eyes peeled up where the ladder ascends. "If the ladder is dangerous, then maybe I should go first." the halfling grimaces here clearly not too happy about this...

The appearance of the crazed humnas strikes the Misfits, and they are slow to react here. Only when the woman flees the scene does Gauwrd react here, "Crap we gotta get out--" his words are interrupted by the *TWANG* of a bowstring as Aerond sends an arrow at the fleeing woman...

Shortbow: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Gauward utters a sailor's curse here, "Too late! We gotta get out of here!" He yells as he moves further up the passage, followed by Cyne, Aerond and Mirinde.

Of all the Misfits here, Only Gauward shows any appreciation for the deception shown by Dee but that appreciation does not show him down as they all make their way towards the breach in the wall!

Cyne's jaw drops as he takes in the enormity of the situation here. "We are supposed to sneak past THAT?"

"Yes, yes...preferable without it waking up!" Stroking his chin in thought here he adds, "We must be like insects to it...as long as we move lightly it will never know we are there!"

"How are we supposed to climb up there?" The normally silent elf Mirinde asks, "Our ropes are not long enough. We could climb up the roots to the cage I think..."

Cyne hoists his pack and scowls at the unpleasant surroundings. "Well, looks like that building is our destination. I don't like being lost in this hell."

"Yes we need to find shelter first," Gauward chimes in, "That building seems to be the only shelter around for miles."

The two elven siblings nod silently in agreement.

Gauward shakes his head here,"Without anyway to keep the meat cold or salt it here, that meat will spoil quickly! Still," he motions to the chest containing his stained fabrics, "We can store it in there for now. I think Gretchen can carry the load for us. Thanks for your kind words too."

Cyne looks at the carcasses with a look of disgust, "I don't think I would trust that meat. No telling what those birds were eating!"

The two elf siblings glanced at one another before turning to their quiet conversation between themselves.

Cyne yells out, "Get away from here ya mangy birds!" as he moves to strike at the bird pecking at the rope!

Shortsword: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Mirinde moves to strike at the other bird with her dagger, backed up by Gauward with his walking stick...

Dagger: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

Staff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The commotion from the others stirs the Misfits to action here. Cyne quickly grabs his (half-rusted) sword and swings wildly...before realizing they had not reached the bridge yet. While Mirinde and Gauward stuggle to set a defensive position, Aerond nocks one of his few remaining arrows and lets it fly at one of the bird-like creatures...

Shortbow: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

...and by some miracle strikes a solid blow!

The rest of my PCs will take the +2 to AC for the first round.

The Misfits:

1. Cyne The Ditch Digger -3 Luck
2. Aerond the Elven Male Navigator - -2 Luck, 2 arrows remaining
3. Mirinde the Elven Female Sage
4. Gauward Ratcley the Halfling Male Dyer -2 Luck

The Misfits

After the close call during the storm it take Gauward to rouse his fellows here, "Quickly! My chest! I'll open it so we can gather the rainwater...it's the only way!"

After the crisis has passed the band of Misfits all collapse onto the center of the bridge barely noticing (or caring) of the loss of one of their own. They all fall into fitful sleep with a rasping cough echoed betwixt all of them...

The Lowest Stamina score I have here is 8 (just barely). PS thanks for the update on how to use Luck here.

OK here we go...

The sudden blast of wind catches the Misfits completely by surprise here...

Cyne rolls/Luck:

Luck roll <13: 1d20 ⇒ 16 fail! Burn 3 Luck points.

Aerond rolls/Luck:

Luck roll <17: 1d20 ⇒ 19 fail! Burn 2 Luck points.

Mirinde rolls/Luck:

Luck roll <10: 1d20 ⇒ 5 success!

Gauward rolls/Luck:

Luck roll <9: 1d20 ⇒ 11 fail! Burn 2 Luck points.

...but by some miraculous stroke of luck all of the roped companions stay on the bridge although perilously close to the edge for comfort!

Cyne sits down heavily upon the invisible bridge feeling more exhausted than he had ever before - the novelty of walking suspended in midair long worn off by now. Reaching into his pack to pull out the half moldy hardtack he passes out rations to the rest of his companions. "This is...much less than I expected. I thought digging ditches was hard...yeah we need to keep moving here once we have rested."

"I agree with Cyne here. Not only will food be an issue but, more importantly, water too." Aerond sighs heavily here, clearly exhausted by the long trek. "The only source of water we could harness would be be any rain falling from the sky."

Gauward munches thoughtfully on his rations, "I know not what the Blue Lady stands for but this I know: There is no such thing as a free lunch. Whatever rewards she offers us will be paid for by us at twice the price-this I can say for sure!"

Mirinde yawns mightily and turns to face the halfling, "Your words have the ring of truth...yet I feel such a price is a small thing to pay no?" She gazes at the halfling appraising him like a fascinating new pet, "Unless you wish to keep working with your cottons and silks..."
