Game begin. Dot in as time allows.

Hello there. I received notification that the order shipped July 15th and on the tracking information through UPS-MI, it was inducted into the USPS system July 19th and delivered to the post office July 20th. Now it seems the post office is saying they never received it, and UPS-MI is stating that it made it to the post office. Is there anything Paizo can do in this situation?

Please ninja dot and we will get started once mustering has completed.

I am looking to run Fugitive on the Red Planet a little quicker than my normal games this time. Please check in here for the game with the following information:

Player Name (or alias):
Character Name
SFS#:
Day job roll:

Also, please note that I would prefer those that apply to be able to post 2-3 times per day. Please note if you are able to fulfill this pacing.

Discuss any OOC details here.

The Abyss Approaches!

Something wicked—and monstrous—stirs around the rugged Isgeri town of Saringallow, where the hated legacy of noble Chelish diabolists runs deep. With the recent disappearance of several apprentices, the nearby menace of particularly grotesque goblins, and the unsettling rumors about the old Sarini Estate, Mayor Sandra Trinelli knows that she needs help, and she needs it fast! The heroes must confront one of these crises, or all three, if they hope to stem the tide of darkness that looms.

Hello everyone and welcome. This is a formal recruitment for Gallows of Madness with a bit of a twist, that being with only characters of Pathfinder Compatible, Non-Paizo (third-party) classes. Please see my profile for my assumptions on post rate / dispute resolution / etc. Below are the character creation details and considerations to create a character for the game. As always, if there are any questions or something I have not yet addressed, please ask.

Character Creation:

  • Abilities: 20 point-buy
  • Alignment Any, provided this does not cause disruption. This module assumes characters are neutral or good.
  • Hit Points: PFS hit points. Maximum at first level then 1/2+1 at level up.
  • Race: Core Paizo races are automatically approved. Uncommon and Rare races need approval. Any third-party race meeting the criteria set out in the ‘Class’ section below (4 stars, or my approval) is approved.
  • Class: Any non-Paizo, third-party Pathfinder Compatible class from a product that has gained four or more stars from Endzeitgeist is a safe bet. Ask about products with reviews of three stars or less, and, if available, submit snippets of the specific rules in this product you wish to use. This criteria extends to archetypes and class options as well.
  • Feats: Any Paizo feat deemed legal by Pathfinder Society is approved. An easy way to see if your feat is PFS approved is to search for it at Archives of Nethys, and if it has the Pathfinder Society logo next to it, it is legal. Additionally, any product source that meets the ‘Class’ criteria above (4 stars, or my approval) is safe to use, this includes supplements designed specifically for the class.
  • Equipment: Starting gp is 150. Any equipment that meets the criteria described in the ‘Feats’ section is approved.
  • Traits: Two traits. No drawbacks. Any trait from a source that meets the criteria set forth in the ‘Feats’ section is approved.
  • Setting: You will be adventuring in and around the town of Saringallow, a large town in Isger that was once home to Chelish nobles-turned-diabolists, until they were hanged by the revolting townspeople. The people are quite superstitious and fearful of strange creatures, so keep this in mind when choosing your race. It is strongly advised that characters of Chelish noble descent not answer this call to adventure.
  • Backstory: A paragraph can suffice here. More is always appreciated. The adventure is neutral on if the PCs are strangers or from Saringallow, so your background can be most anything. You only have to explain why you would answer the mayor’s call for adventure.
  • Other Rules: Scrolls will be PFS style throughout the adventure, meaning no distinction between arcane/divine. If it’s on your spell list, you can cast it from an identified scroll.

PFS credit: This module will be played in campaign mode for Pathfinder Society credit. This means that, if you wish, credit will be applied to one of your existing (or newly created) Pathfinder Society characters as if you played a pregen.

Selection Criteria: I will evaluate all applications through next week and make a determination. One slot is already determined, and will most likely be playing a Pyromancer, arcane fire caster, so 5 slots are up for grabs. If we have five applicants or less, then we are good to go. If there are more applicants than seats I will evaluate applications based on the order of priority: party composition > Backstory > Setting/Theme Appropriate > Class/Mechanics (crunch inventiveness)

Thank you for the interest, and I hope we get to play this great adventure together!

Looking to gauge interest for an idea I had, that is what it would be like playing through Gallows of Madness with a party comprised only of Third-Party (Pathfinder Compatible) classes such as the Swordmaster, Malefactor, or Runesmith, to name a very small few.

Since Gallows can be played in campaign mode, chronicles for Pathfinder Society credit would be given out at the end for completing the arc.

Does anyone have old classes rotting away in the deepest recesses of your downloads, something you've always wanted to try?

Please dot-and-delete to add your character to the game.

Hello everyone! This is one of my very favorite scenarios! If you are a new or beginning player, please don't hesitate to ask questions in whatever form you are comfortable (post, PM, etc.).

Please check in here with the relevant chronicle information, consisting of:

Player Name (or alias):
Character Name:
PFS#:
Faction:
Day job roll:

And then head on over to the gameplay thread to "dot-and-delete", meaning post something in the gameplay thread and then immediately delete it to add your selected character to the game. Make sure you post with the character you intend to play.

Please dot and delete to add your character. We will be underway March 5th.

OutPost I: Back to the Future
EVENT #253109
March 5 - April 30, 2017

Please check in here with the relevant chronicle information, consisting of:

Player Name (or alias):
Character Name
PFS#:
Faction:
Day job roll:

Reminder, this is a CORE game.

Please dot and delete to add your character. We will be underway once everyone has checked in.

Please post here with the character you intend to play and list the normal, relevant chronicle information.

Please dot-and-delete in the gameplay thread. We will underway in a day or so.

Please dot here those that were selected. We will start in about a day or so.

Posting: I expect everyone to post at least once per weekday, and once over the weekend. More is always appreciated. Once we get going, things will move at a good clip, and not posting for several days in a row causes the game to stall. If this happens, it will result in your character being skipped. Make sure you’re OK with the time commitment this entails.

Mistakes: If you notice a mistake, problem, or have a concern, please let me know in any way you’re comfortable (discussion thread/pm) and we can discuss and find a solution.

RP: I’m a big fan of RP. That said, I’m also a big believer in keeping things moving. Interspersing description, dialogue, and action can seem like a chore, but it makes the game richer and more immersive for everyone. Doing all that while pushing things forward is the ideal for me. And don’t forget to interact with your fellow teammates, too, as well as the NPCs! It's much more enjoyable when interaction occurs, rather than just playing in proximity with other players. Be part of a team!

Those that were selected, if you feel you can meet the requirements above, please put your information below in the following categories:

Player name:
Character name:
PFS#:
Faction:
Day job

Please dot here when ready. First post to come in a day or so.

I tried searching here but might be missing the answer. Is there a reason there's currently no link to the chronicle sheet for the Hell's Rebels AP?

Hello everyone and welcome! I've always been a sucker for Kaer Maga. I'm a big fan of the city, and have wanted to GM a scenario set in it for awhile.

First, the obligatory expectations for those selected:

Hello everyone, and welcome! This will be my first game GM’ing here on the PBP boards, so I thought I’d start with a scenario I’ve always wanted to run, but never had the chance to face to face. I’ve been playing Pathfinder for about six years now, but just got involved with Pathfinder Society this past year, and have only played a handful of games.

Two slots are already reserved, so I am looking for four more. Please see below for some of my expectations for this game:

Posting: I expect everyone to post at least once per weekday, and once over the weekend. More is always appreciated. Once we get going, things will move at a good clip, and not posting for several days in a row causes the game to stall. If this happens, it will result in your character being skipped. Make sure you’re OK with the time commitment this entails.

Mistakes: As this is the first game I’ve ever run here on the boards, I’ll be mostly borrowing techniques used by other GMs that I’ve seen or played with to adjudicate initiative, knowledge checks, etc. That said, I fully expect to make mistakes. If you notice a mistake, problem, or have a concern, please let me know in any way you’re comfortable (discussion thread/pm) and we can discuss and find a solution.

Selection: Selection will be first come first serve. Make sure you are able to fulfill all of the criteria mentioned above and post your interest below.

This will be a classic (non-core) game.

It doesn’t take long for the next call to come in. You’re the newest team in Detroit’s HCIU, and so you’re on call for the night shift. You never know when someone’s evening will come to a tragic end. When it comes across, the address is familiar: The Danger Room, a gym for heightened individuals downtown. An ambulance crew with a suspicious death on their hands phoned it in.

Trivia or Anamorphology:
The Danger Room is one of the oldest gyms that caters to the mutant community.

It’s nearly dark when you arrive. The ambulance lights stain the buildings red. It’s all the familiar sights of a crime scene outside: the curious passersby, the lights, the feel of the air about the place.

Spends Available!

1-Point Architecture Spend:
Though the buildings surround the Danger Room are a bit run-down, your expertise tells you that the Danger Room must be doing very well financially due to it being renovated often and kept up better than its neighbors.

Moving inside, the lobby is like that of an old boxing studio. Photos of old fighters hang about the walls as well as smiling, prominent gym members. Behind the photos and memorabilia, the walls are stained with cigarette smoke. The whole place smells of sweat. A greasy man looking to be in his mid-forties waits for you in the center of the lobby, fidgeting. Dressed in a stained t-shirt and sweat pants, the guy looks like a working class joe minus the expensive wrist watch and iphone 9 belted to his waist. He’s got sweat across his forehead and a worried air about him.

Photography:
This place sports a surprisingly sophisticated security system, from cameras to keycard locks and heavy shutters over all the ground-floor entrances.

Officers, Lou Hutkins. I’m the owner here. Please, follow me back to the…uh…scene.” He tells you a bit about the Danger Room, and about the scene, as he walks. ”Only someone who’s got proof that they’ve got the power can use the machine suited for it. You gotta sign a disclaimer too.”

Bullsh*t Detector:
He’s not lying, but he’s obviously nervous and scared.

He leads you through double doors and into a labyrinth of corridors, obviously expanded many times over the years into the adjacent buildings. Some rooms hold machines with big motors for the super strong, some hold hardened targets for blasters, some are fireproofed, and some hold barriers of all types of materials for the ghosters, or phase mutants. Mr. Hutkins points all of these machines out as you go. It’s clear they cater to all types of powers here.

Then you turn a corner, and the blade room is next.

Ambulance workers mill about, and perk up as you enter. The machine in the center is a monstrosity: blades of all types and sizes with rotating, extending arms. And in the center of them all, a well-built man stands impaled, still held up by the blades. Blood echoes out from the machine.

Anamorphology:
This machine is designed to push the blade immunity power by stabbing them repeatedly. It is supposed to shut down if its attacks aren’t immediately deflected.

Law:
You know that these types of machines are barely legal. Court cases and debates are still ongoing. Employing a potentially lethal machine at places such as these requires a trained medic or Healer on call 24/7.

What do you do first?

Welcome everyone! I am excited to be running this MCB game for such great people. A couple things before we get started. Please create an alias for your character, if you have not already, and put the crunch and your background and morning routine in it. It doesn't need to be elaborate, just legible.

Next, since we have 5 players, the total build points you can spend on investigative abilities drops to 21. So, those that built their investigative abilities already will need to take away 7 points worth.

I'll be taking a look at each of your investigative abilities to see if there's any holes that need filling. In general, throughout the party you want a good spread of abilities to handle most situations.

And lastly, I expect the first post to go up this Sunday.

Any questions, let me know. And have fun!

The mysteries await!

Detroit, ten years made. Ten years of anything goes, where the paper boy could be a living bomb, or the gossip-crazed landlady hears everything in a five-block radius. Ten years since the Sudden Mutation Event, the world turning on its end a little more every day, stranger and stranger. But even with everything that’s happened, the city still limps on. Not whole, not by a longshot. But something else. Maybe even something more, in between the broken things.

But the lights and the sirens don’t stop--can’t stop. The dark is heavier here somehow, the silence too. The lights wash across broken things all over: windows, stray dogs, lined faces by firelight, as if everything could be fixed just by standing witness. Just by noticing. The lights roll on and soon enough the sun sets everything bare and the city--your city--has endured another day.

The only thing left to believe is that it can do it again tomorrow.

Campaign Information:

This will be a Mutant City Blues game centered around the city of Detroit and the Heightened Crimes Investigation Unit (HCIU) of the Detroit City Police Department. Players create detectives of HCIU and work to clear cases linked to the mutant population of Detroit using forensics, interpersonal skills, and other investigative abilities. And when such times call for it, the detectives use their own powers to even the odds when faced with mutant aggression and violence.

This first investigation is meant to be an introduction to the system and the world of MCB. I will be using one of the cases in Pelgrane Press’s “Brief Cases” for this. The party size can vary from 2-6 players.

Note:There will likely be some combat in this first case, but MCB places the emphasis on investigation first, and combat second. If you are looking for a superhero combat-focused game, you will be disappointed here. That type of game is better handled by other systems.

Character Creation:

Character creation follows the standard creation rules for Mutant City Blues, however, since you will not know how many players will be working on the case when you are creating your character, I ask that you leave investigative abilities blank until players are chosen. If you need to choose some abilities before recruitment ends to realize your character, assume 3 people party size (28 build points). These abilities will largely be determined in the discussion thread after recruitment ends, as there needs to be a good representation of most investigative abilities to progress through the cases. That said, you may place your points into general abilities and your mutant powers using the Quade diagram however you like.

Next, give a short background for your character and explain how they came to be in the Detroit HCIU. All the better if you can tie your general abilities and/or mutant powers into the story.

And lastly, tell me your character’s morning routine. Guide me through the start of your character’s day in a small scene, third person limited point of view, present tense. See with a detective’s eye, and tell me a story through the details around your character. Where do they live? What do they notice first? What does all this say about them? Etc. etc. This little scene and your background will be the two major deciding factors to being accepted into the game. Be descriptive! Be creative! Show me you’re willing to go the extra mile to make the game truly special for everyone involved.

Posting Requirements:
I am expecting all players to be able to post at least a minimum of once every 48 hours. I will be posting every day. I will let players know of any absences prior to them occurring, unless it is an emergency, and I expect all players to do the same.

I will leave this recruitment call open for two weeks, ending on 5/27. This timeframe may be shortened or lengthened by me if circumstances surrounding applications require it. Players will be chosen the day recruitment ends. I plan to begin the investigation the day after recruitment ends. If there is enough interest after this investigation, and everyone wants to keep going, I would be more than happy to continue on with more MCB cases.

If there are any questions about anything here let me know.

My Background/Experience:
I have been a GM for about 7 years now, running a large assortment of games for different groups in meatspace. I am a newcomer to play by post gaming, however, and am eager to learn and create something special with good people.

Thanks goes out to GM Captain Trips for an excellent recruitment thread from which I based the structure of mine off of. Also thanks goes to Painlord's guides as well, and the other sticky guides on PBP gaming, which have helped me tremendously.

Looking to gauge interest in a play-by-post Mutant City Blues game set in Detroit. This will be a short investigation to test the waters; if interest continues, I will look into running more with the same team. I am a new GM to pbp, but have played F2F for the last 7 years or so, and have GM'ed a few investigations in MCB before. Mutant City Blues is a police procedural game with mutant powers thrown in as a twist. It's CSI/Law & Order meets X-Men. Here is the description pulled from the book:

"Ten years ago, 1% of the population gained mutant powers. 1% of the citizens means 1% of the criminals! You're the cops who clean up the mess.

Ever since the Sudden Mutation Event, people have been able to fly. Phase through walls. Read minds. Shoot bolts of energy from their fingertips. Walk into dreams.

As members of the elite Heightened Crime Investigation Unit, you and your fellow detectives solve crimes involving the city’s mutant community. When a mutant power is used to kill, you catch the case. When it’s a mutant victim in the chalk outline, you get the call. And when it comes time for a fight, you deploy your own extraordinary abilities to even the odds."

  • Please let me know if you're interested, and what, if any, experience you have with the Gumshoe system (none is perfectly acceptable).
  • I will be asking for players to be able to post at a minimum of once every 48 hours, and once over the weekend.
  • Looking for 2-6 players.

  • Hi everyone, I've started a Slumbering Tsar game and we're two sessions in. For this campaign, I restricted character creation to core-only with a system of unlocking new things (abilities, spells, classes) as they probe deeper into Tsar. One player, however, has challenged this decision, stating that it is a power play to keep the playing field uneven between the player characters and the opposition due to the fact that there are creatures converted from Tome of Horrors and Creature Collection III.

The player had a character die in the first session, and repeatedly called attention to anything that was not core afterward, and in the session that followed. What I don't want is this to fester and grow into something more severe, compounded by each character death. I have talked to him a few times since, but I wonder if anyone else has dealt with this before. Any advice for moving forward?

I was reading ahead and came across this, in the last book of the Jade Regent AP, which confused me, and I'm wondering if I'm failing a perception check somewhere along the way:

    Spoiler:
From The Empty Throne, pg. 55 wrote:
If the PCs learn of the Jade Regent’s origin in “Forest of Spirits” (and especially the manner of his mother’s death

This is located in Soto Takahiro's stat block in "The Empty Throne". I checked back to "The Forest of Spirits" for the information that the PCs are to discover in Munasukaru's Penance, but this was all I could find:

From The Forest of Spirits, pg. 31 wrote:
Beyond relying on hired mortal agents, Anamurumon was also obsessed with siring half-human progeny. He needed the “perfect” grandchild—a tiefling who would not only be unquestioningly loyal to Anamurumon, but could also pass as human. Such a child would be the perfect agent to infiltrate the imperial families of Minkai, but all of Anamurumon’s descendants were deemed “unsuitable” and killed by the oni.

I know that Anamurumon is Takahiro's grandfather, so he must have had at least one child survive. But I don't see anything about Takahiro or his mother. Am I failing my perception check?

I tried searching for this but didn't see an answer. Say a cross-blooded, wildblooded sorcerer casts shocking grasp with bloodlines that matched his element, would he gain +2 damage per dice?
