HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

And why am I not surprised to hear someone who goes by "DM DoctorEvil" say something like that?

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Thanks--I have a possibly-workable idea to run with. See you elsewhere on the boards!

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

You're already solid on the healing front while lacking a full arcane caster, so I was initially thinking to convert Dragolan into a sorcerer. That wasn't working for me, so with the ref's permission I'm coming up with a new character. Wizard, working towards the Magaambyan Arcanist prestige class. I'll have more on the character later.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Varya, I'm having trouble making Dragolan gel as a sorcerer. Before I try to set up a new character, I thought I'd give you the option (particularly since I'm in a few more online games than you are). Let me know.

I'd be interested, though depending on things I may rebuild Dragolan as an arcane spellcaster...maybe a Celestial bloodline sorcerer, as that would also not be popular in Cheliax.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

I think Felix would make a better breaking & entering specialist--archaeobards get +1/2 per level to Perception and Disable Device checks, and even though they don't get to disarm magical traps until 6th level (compared to archivists' getting it at 2nd level) those bonuses help a lot.

No, you're not--I am. Dragolan was created for a PbP Serpent's Skull game *almost five years ago*. The GM for that one disappeared after picking players and setting up the gameplay and discussion threads. I proposed Dragolan for another SS game in June, 2011, and got into that one. It lasted until October, when the GM didn't have the time to continue. I proposed him for yet another SS game in September, 2012, and got into that one. The GM for that one disappeared the following June.

Hey, maybe you're right--mine all involve the GM falling out of touch, and DoctorEvil is still here. It's not my fault this time!

More seriously, I think that Mikail and Felix are far enough apart in execution that they shouldn't overlap much--remember that archaeobards have luck in place of inspiring performances, and IIRC Felix isn't pushing the scholarly aspects of the class. An archaeobard also makes for an adequate rogue substitute, at least wrt the breaking & entering stuff.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan peers at the still-writhing corpse. "It takes them some small amount of time to realize that they are dead. (Rather unlike such enlightened creatures as we.) Once it has settled down, though, I should like to see if any of it is edible."

Take 10 on Profession (Cook) for a 16, if possible.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

I see that Okhosa's player hasn't posted in any campaigns for close to a month, nor has he posted under his main alias. Who's still active in Group B?

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Morningstar to snake: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Dragolan tries to hit the snake, but misses badly.

I'm going to be at a con this weekend, and out of touch.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

The oracle peers intently at a low flower spike growing in a small patch of sunlight on the jungle floor. "What a fascinating bromeliad! Do you know, there are frogs that live in--what?"

Perception check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"The west end of the island, perhaps. We were already exploring in that direction. It is also possible that one of the others is more skilled at climbing than we; I have some training in the skill, but lack the musculature to excel."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"Both Mikail and I have some skill at tracking."

Survival check to track: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"I advise searching for Morgrym. If alive, he can take on some food-gathering duties while the rest of us explore, and the longer we wait the more difficult it will be to find his trail."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"I advise resting, while I tend to the ill. Is anyone still wounded?"

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Once again, Dragolan's keen eye for edibles (not to mention frequent use of the detect poison cantrip to resolve edge cases) comes through for the party.

Survival check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"I advise saving the potions for the moment, looking for food during the morning, then returning to camp and tending our invalids."

Strength damage don't kill you directly. When your strength damage is equal to your strength you become paralyzed, so thirst and hunger kill you. With someone caring for you and a lesser restoration at hand to keep strength above 0 if needed it can be overcome.

As you may have noticed, I said something very like that a few posts up.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

I've been swamped at work since getting back; I should be able to get something up tomorrow.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Only a few mosquitoes, but a lot of flies and gnats. Luckily, the rain held off until after we'd packed up and were on the road.

How does Red Ache compare to other diseases we might be exposed to out here? Dragolan is concerned about the likelihood of encountering something worse.

I'm going to be camping this weekend, and off the grid. I'll be back Monday, though.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

How much do Dragolan and Mikail know about Red Ache? (IE, if it's doing stat damage, which stat(s) is/are it damaging? Phrase it as how it kills--does it do you in directly, or do you starve/die of thirst because you can't eat or drink? Will supportive therapy keep you alive?)

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Before everyone beds down for the night, Dragolan channels again to heal anyone who's still hurt.

Channel Energy to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Untrained Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

The rotund oracle takes a moment to speak with Aerys. "Madame Mavato--are you well? Disease is something we must watch for diligently."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan doesn't prepare spells.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan chuckles. "This place is full of things to eat, and some of them are very tasty indeed. Unfortunately, it's also full of things that find us very tasty as well. I hope that Morgrym hasn't run afoul of one of those."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan turns his attention to the two ill members of the group. "Master Ruben, if you could assist?"

Heal check on Jask: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Heal check on Gelik: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"I am still in good health, and I have some minor talent at tracking--we can go looking for Morgrym and Sasha."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"While ordinarily I would welcome the chance for more novelty, I believe that it is time for the better part of valor, as they say. I vote we return to camp and rest until you have recovered at least in part from the centipede poison."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

The oracle shrugs with a bit of a smile. "It helps that I can identify poisons readily...though I also have learned that just because it's not poisonous doesn't mean it tastes good."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Survival check to forage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Clearly, Dragolan spent his time waiting for the party wisely.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"Well, now. If whoever drugged us is still on the island with us, it would perhaps be foolish to divide our numbers more than we already have. I doubt that I could have done much against Devers' slayer, or against whatever creature slew the cook. Equipment can be replaced more easily than we can."

ETA: Hey, this was my 19,000th post on the boards! I play in too many games, I guess.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

You can provide long-term care for up to six people, but you can't provide it for yourself. And AFAICT it requires complete rest on the part of the people being treated.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan stands up as the wounded party approaches. "That would seem to have been a bit too much excitement. Next time, we all should go in together. Mikail, why did you want us to split up?"

Channel energy to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Channel energy to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 1

I guess Dragolan is a little short of life energy at the moment?

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan yawns and scratches himself idly. I wonder how they're doing in there. It can't be that bad, or I would have heard the screaming.

Just in time for me to get back. Have fun--I did (except for several miles of dirt road--tough on my back).

"Shout if you need anything...I shall be over here, in the shade."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

I'm going to be on vacation for the next couple of weeks, and for at least part of that time will be in a part of the country with inconsistent cell service. I'll try to keep up, but if you need to 'bot me to keep things moving go ahead.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

That works for me. He's got the good Survival check, so he can reasonably find a lot of food. (OTOH, if the explorers happen to fight and kill something edible, it's coming back with us.)

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

I think all the PCs are going. We'll start out heading west along the beach, looking for food and any other things of interest, and mapping as we go. Definitely interested in signs of habitation, wrecks, and trails going inland.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan is unfamiliar with whatever is behind the spoiler tag. "I saw nothing, Varya."

The next morning, the oracle looks a little haggard. "Bad dreams; I do not know if they mean anything. Something about bailing out Jenivere with a spoon? And Kovack and Ieana conspiring? Ah, well--likely enough merely the last of the poison they used on us leaving my system."

Knowledge (Nature) check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Perception check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

As good a reason as any to keep to the beach, at least at first.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

From the PRD:

PRD wrote:
Healing Nonlethal Damage: You heal nonlethal damage at the rate of 1 hit point per hour per character level. When a spell or ability cures hit point damage, it also removes an equal amount of nonlethal damage.

"I would also like to go with the exploring party." Dragolan chuckles. "After all, I fully intended to go out into the jungles of the Expanse...this is merely a little sooner than I'd intended!"

The oracle points to the map. "I would take exception to your proposed destination, Mikail...let us begin by following the coastline to the west. I suspect that we are on the north side of the island, but there may be useful items to be gleaned from wrecks...eh, Jask?"

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

After the shelter is in place, Dragolan gathers the workers (and anyone else still injured) together for a pick-me-up.

Channel energy to heal: 1d6 ⇒ 2

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Neither of them have been active anywhere on the boards for a few weeks.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"Shelter...was the right thing...to start with." Dragolan fans himself with one hand as he pants in exhaustion. "We can forage...tomorrow morning, when...it's cooler."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

"Ah, Sasha. We don't know how long it will take before we are rescued; the Shiv, I am told, has a bad reputation as a graveyard of ships, so wise captains steer well clear of it. Perhaps we will find a way off of the island quickly, but I fear we will be here for some time."

Fort save, first hour: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Fort save, second hour: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Fort save, third hour: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Dragolan will also assist with setting up camp, complaining loudly about the difficulty of the work, why it has to be done in the heat of the day, and generally being kind of a pain. However, despite his complaints he manages to work tirelessly for the first two hours, only flagging towards the end of the time.

Survival check, aid another: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

In reply, Dragolan smiles. "Potable water is not a concern, my friend. I have magic to pull the salt out of sea water; as long as we are close to the shore and I am alive, I will be able to provide all the water we need."

Unfortunately, I can't take 10 on an Aid Another, though Dragolan has +5 Survival so he's got a pretty good chance to make it. By RAW, Dragolan and Mikail between them can take 10 and move at half overland speed while still feeding themselves and four more people.

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Dragolan contemplates the charts, shaking his head. "No one sane seems to come anywhere near this place, I fear. I don't recall any storms that might have blown us off course; if none of you do, either, I am forced to conclude that the captain brought the ship here for a reason. But that is not the most important thing.

"For the purpose of our survival, we must determine where we are, and what threats are present on the island. I suggest that we divide our group of castaways into two--a home base, if you will, and an exploration team. The explorers will, well, explore the immediate vicinity of the base; once that is done, everyone will cooperate on moving the base to another convenient place to explore from. We continue until we have completely explored the island, been rescued, or died. Then (assuming the first case, of course!) we find the best place to light a beacon and wait."

HP 10/10, 0 NL, AC Chelaxian Human ***INACTIVE*** Life Oracle/1

Yeah! Go Varya!
