![]() The nobles pull Lucius body to the far shore, gingerly rolling him over. His eyes are open and unblinking, he is not breathing, and his torso appears terribly mangled. Dolgrin leans down over his body, placing a hand on his chest, then an ear to his mouth. ”E....E’s nay breathin’,” Dolgrin mutters. ”By Torag’s beard trimmin’s, e’s dead!” He shakes his head before he grasps Lucius’ shoulders and shakes him forcefully. ”Lucius! Wake up!” ![]()
![]() Dolgrin glares at Lucius, and the young baron's jestful remark seems to push the Dwarven Lord over the edge. "Watch' yer tone wit' me, boy! Yer dog's off 'is leash, an' 'e been killin' my folk 'ere fer a month! When I get me 'ands on 'im, I promise ye 'e won' be killin' again!" he says as he shoves a finger up towards your face, his own growing red with anger! ![]()
![]() Dolgrin comes out just moments behind Govannon, adjusting his black cloak on his pauldrons as he steps out of the temple. Seeing the other barons, he greets you with a wave as he approaches, his face clearly troubled. In particular, he maintains a glower whenever he looks towards Lucius, and it seems he is making it a point to stare the young Lord down quite a bit at the moment. "Gov' is right. Somethin's 'appened ta our neighbors o'er in Varn'old. An' me fav'rite pointy eared lass Lithandra was o'er thar at me request. Whate'er 'as befallen them, it's 'appened ta 'er too," he says in a grumble. He looks around for Galendir before adding "Where be Lord d'Arden? 'e 'avin' troubles a' 'ome?" ![]()
![]() Dolgrin ponders a bit, stroking his beard in his hand. He ultimately shakes his head. ”No,” he replies. ”We should send for the other barons. They will need to be involved. We will be traveling uninvited on foreign lands, so we will need the backing of our entire collective. Varnhold, while alone, was in itself larger and stronger than any one of our own Baronies, after all.” It occurs to you that he is far better spoken in his native tongue than in Common. You have about a week of time between this revelation and the other barons arriving to interact with Dolgrin and his dwarven compatriots. If you’d like, make one general skill check of whatever skills you wish to try and learn what you can. (Sense Motive to get an idea of what Dolgrin’s planning, Diplomacy to try and come right out and ask him, Bluff to trick it out of him, Stealth to sneak and find proof, etc. Feel free to get creative, but you only need one of each such rolls that you and your men are trying, but one check per major person in your company in the town.
A dwarven messenger flying the flag of Nighthelm arrives to each of your capitols, requesting for you each to join Lord Girndmar and Lord Gittins in the dwarven village that has been established by Dolgrin. He claims it is a matter of state emergency that could impact us all... ![]()
![]() Dolgrin turns to look at Govannon directly. In Dwarven, he says "You speak Dwarven? By the Gods, why didn't you say so to begin with? That would have made speaking a bit more comfortable, to say the least!" before refocusing and adding "Baron Varn of Varnhold. He and I have been discussing...matters of state...between our two holdfasts. Property rights, as it were. When we got back from that fair, I sent Lithandra out to Varnhold to continue discussions...poor little elven bird has been acting strange lately and I fear she needed exposure to people other than us dwarves," he says with a chuckle. "Even so, I hadn't heard anything from her in two months. Well...from anyone there in two months. So I sent one of my more subtle companions to go lay eyes on the situation...it doesn't sound good..." ![]()
![]() Going to trickle out posts as I can with work and such. If you have something you need DM interaction with, make sure to poke me in thread here with something to catch my attention. Govannon: The village of Hammerfall is a squat, no frills sort of town. Everything is built to fulfill its purpose, without much design for aesthetic. As you travel down the Main Street, you can see on your left a tavern with a sign above the door that reads “The Hammer.” Directly across the street is the town inn, calling itself “The Anvil.” Further up the road you can see a small trade shop, and on a side street to the left you can hear the sound of a smithy hard at work. Above the door to the blacksmith you see a sign that says “Darksteel Smithy.” Within the side of a small hillock, you can see the stone face of an underground temple to Torag.
The dwarves acting as town guard seem quite tense, and keep a keen eye on your entourage as you enter town. You no more than give your instruction to Rusty when a pair of heavily armed and armored dwarves approach from the direction of the temple. ”Lord Gittins,” one calls out gruffly, ”Baron Girndmar requests your audience in the Temple.” ![]()

"These 'ere lads told me someone went an' cut some folks up! What in the Nine 'ells is goin' on, lads?" As the three of them arrive to the scene, a small crowd is starting to form with the guards forming a perimeter to keep it back. When you round the corner to the alley of the scene of the crime, Dolgrin mutters "Torag's Mustache! 'o coulda done this?" as he kneels down near one of the bodies. ![]()
![]() Yup, there it is. Deduct the 315 gp and add a MW scimitar. Earlier: Dolgrin makes his way to Galendir shortly after greeting Govannon. ”Galendir...I mean...Lord d’Arden!” he says with a smirk and a bow, ”I ‘ave tha’ order ya requested. Took me some creative liberties...noticed ye liked lions,” he says as he turns to his entourage and snaps his fingers. A dwarf footman steps forward and presents an oak box, which Dolgrin opens and retrieves your blade. The dark grey steel of the blade meets the hilt, gleaming golden in contrast. The golden hilt is fashioned to appear as if a roaring lion was staring out from it on either side. The grip is wrapped in fine leather with a decorative golden cord encircling it along it’s length. And the pommel is shaped like a regal lion’s head. Galendir: While you cant quite make out the details of the conversation, you can tell that Dolgrin speaks much more refined in his native tongue than he does in Taldane Common. He sounds downright noble almost! ![]()
![]() Flaith:
Word reaches you via messenger that Lord "Aldori" would like an audience.
Knowledge (Nobility) DC 10: The fact that he has taken the last name of Aldori indicates that he has sworn himself to the "House" that is claimed by the Swordlords. Essentially, he has become a true noble in the eyes of the courts, but his loyalty is ultimately aligned with the Swordlords. Members of the organization who do not take the last name Aldori only have what noble status they could claim prior to joining the organization, but doing so does not negatively affect their ranking. However, most of the highest roles in the organization are filled exclusively with Aldori. When an audience is granted, Lord Domenicus enters and bows deeply to you. "Your Grace," he says with a glimmer of playfulness in his eyes, "it is an honor to be welcomed in your lands." Govannon:
Hendina, finally returning from her trip to Mivon, requests an audience. "Sire, I have a report for you about Mivon. Turns out that the people of Mivon are, in truth, descendants of the Aldori Swordlords of Restov. When Choral the Conquerer came ages ago and united Rostland and Issia into Brevoy by force, some Aldori chose to flee rather than be conquered. The Aldori of Brevoy have long mocked them as cowards and false claimants to the title of Swordlords. However, the Swordlords from Mivon are no less skilled with the blade. And many political matters are often settled with duels, be it to first blood, or the death. They could prove capable allies, but doing so may hinder relations with Restov. On the other hand, they are far closer to us than the Aldori, and to cause us any real trouble, they'd have to first cross both Lord Pence and Lady Aredhel's lands..." Lucius: You begin making plans for your part of the festival, when Highpriestess Hernande requests an audience. She bows deeply, her outfit reflecting the tenants of her faith by showing off her feminine features and perhaps a bit much skin. "My Lord," she says with a warm smile, "I was looking over some of your plans regarding the upcoming festival, and thought that I might discuss some things with you, if you would allow?" ![]()

To Govannon and Galendir he hands each an oak case that, when opened, reveals scabbards made to fit your swords. The scabbards are made of red dragon scale and decorated with bits of dragon horn. ”I figure I got tha dimensions close enough,” he says with a wink. To Lucius he hands a similar box that contains a pair of smaller scabbards made to fit the blades of Carnifex. He smiles politely, but his words carry a hint of disdain in their tone, ”These are fer yer masked friend. Tha one who came an’ ‘elped us kill tha beast.” Then, to Flaith, he reaches into a small pouch and removes an elegant silver chain that has dangling from it a pristine red dragonscale. ”An’ fer the Baroness, I wasn’t quite sure wha’ ta make fer ye, but figured a bit o’ jewelry wouldn’t ‘urt!” The scale seems to glimmer in the sunlight, unlike the scabbards. It is almost as if it has been polished and treated in a way to make it reflect and bend light like a gemstone rather than a scale. Despite its crude origin it is actually an eye-catching piece.
