The lizard men were angry and not open to negotiation. Galendir responded with lethal action of his own. He began his deadly dance, striking at the lizardman engaged with him with deadly accuracy and agility.

Dolgrin yells out ”They nay be smar’ anough ta be reasoned with! Jus’ cut ‘em down like tha beasties they are!” as he dismounts and readies his weapon. As the flames from Flaith’s spell fade, he hustles over to fill the void left by the fallen Lizardfolk there. However, the javelin hurling one on the rock remains, though badly burned.

Galendir nearly cuts one down, but the monstrous creature remains in the fight! The muscle bound leader heaves another javelin at Galendir, but it is clearly not his strong suit and the spear flails hopelessly off course again!

”Damnit man, stop your attacking!” he shouts at the lizard folk. ”We’re here on a peaceful mission to bury the hatchet between our peoples. There is no need for this bloodshed.”

Never the less, he prepares by dismounting (swift dismount) away from the lizard folk near him: Ride: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 vs DC 20 - success!

(I think my movement provokes because it’s not a 5’ step so the lizardman on me gets a swing.)

He draws his scimitar (move) and casts Haste on the party.

I think its the lizards turn!


Ooops, TBH this one is again entirely on me, because I for some reason thought I was still waiting on someone but didn't wanna be a douche and come prodding. Good thing since it would have been a misguided prod!

When Lucius throws out his bluster, the two Lizardfolk near him take a chance to swing at him, but fail due to the awkward angle of attacking him while he is mounted. However, one of them appears to be quite shook up by Lucius' bravado!

The rest of the lizardfolk continue to attack as well, swinging clubs or tossing javelins. Galendir parries aside one's attack and responds with a thrust of his own, taking it down, while every other attack misses save for the spear throw against Flaith, which again grazes her across the left side of her abdomen below her ribcage.

Dolgrin saw Lady Aredhel take a hit before she faded from sight, but he figured it would be best to deal with the new lizard man that ran up to Govannon since Flaith was hidden away by magic now. As he rushes forward, his hammer begins crackling with electricity, and he brings it down on the lizardman with a powerful blow, though it remains standing!

The muscle bound lizardfolk, and apparent leader of this troop, leaps down from the boulder and attempts to smash Galendir with his two-handed morningstar. However, Galendir is able to parry the blow aside and retaliate with a thrust of his weapon, which cleanly enters the lizardfolk leader's throat! The creature gurgles on its blood as Galendir withdraws his blade, falling limply to the ground in death throes!

Govannon cuts the lizardfolk attacking him viciously! The first slice removes the creatures arm holding it's weapon from it's body entirely! Then, the second attack cleaves the creature's head from it's shoulders!

"Hmph! Very well then!" Lucius takes a shot at a lizard not currently in melee. attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5


Lucius' shot fires directly into the burned one from Flaith's fireball, felling the injured creature and knocking him off the rock and back into the river. However, it leaves him open for attacks, and one manages to hit!

The fall of their leader causes the remaining ones to grow panicked, though they continue their attack for now. The spearmen, however, after throwing their javelins, hop down from the trees.

Govannon looks at the bloody mess that is the battlefield, and curses. Chewing his lip, he tries to free Dolgren from encumbrance, attacking the lizardfolk next to him.

"He convinced you we were your enemies. Now he lay's dying. Let us help him and you. We came to talk. So do you wish to talk or die?"

A bit forward and lacking his normal diplomacy but that is bound to happen in the heat of combat.

Govannon lets any who flee go their way safely, without AoO or pursuit.

"Dolgrin, can you stabilize their wounded? I can heal them, but I don't want them to get up fighting, you know?" Govannon rushes around helping to stabilize as many as they can, starting with the leader.

When those who can be saved have been, he calms down, lights up a smoke, and confers with his allies, "Well, that went about as well as expected I guess. I say we wake the leader, I have some healing that can be brought to bear, and we try to convince him we're different. Perhaps this show of strength will convince them we should be treated seriously, and our mercy will convince them we're here to bargain."

He'll heal anyone in the party who may be injured, utilizing his healing touch. (Govannon heals 2d8+7 on a touch once a day per person. Help yourself to a healing if you need it and I'll keep track. No double dipping - you'll need to see Dolgrin if you need further aid.)

He takes a deep drag as he considers. Blowing the smoke high into the air he shrugs, "It's worth a try anyway, yes? I don't want to wipe these guys out, and I can't have a hostile band of lizard folk between us." he gestures to Galendir. "We've just got to convince their leaders."

Galendir sheathes his blade and puts a hand on the lizard folks shoulder that surrendered. He continues to speak in their tongue.

"Thank you for ending this bloodshed. We will save those that death has not yet taken. You have probably dealt with bandits and those like us that only wished to take. We our here to prosper for all on these lands. A future were we all live and work together to make things better for all. Can you lead us to your elders or those that are in charge so we can talk?"

He nods as Govannon approaches and speaks.

"They are hostile as they have only seen hostility from others like us. It may take time to change them."


Dolgrin looks incredulously at Govannon’s request. ”’ave ye gone daft, lad! These ‘ere beasties jus’ tried ta kill us! I know ye are tryin’ ta play nicey nice, bu’ primitives like these are nay able ta live like you an’ me! Why should we put ourselves at risk when it’s clear they want nuttin’ but trouble!” he rants as he stomps over to the gathered barons.

"My good Dolgrin, they tried to kill us because they don't know any better - and apparently the last wave of humans in these parts was unkind. We must persevere, or try at least."

"Will you please help me help them? I mean there must be a way..."

He thanks Galendir for his attempts at civility. He speaks to the lizard folk in custody (though in common). "We mean no harm here. Look, if we did, we'd have brought an army. This is a peaceful mission. Won't you help us?"

Lucius sulks, still on about his shirt. "A N'joq original! Ruined! Anyway, we are not in the business of genocide or anything tacky like that. We wish to live and for you to live. It may not be easy, but it IS doable. Perhaps some of you can visit my Carnivalia and see our intentions cherished and celebrated!"

Releasing her spell of invisibility Flaith looks at the others.
"War should always be the last resort, not the first!"
Putting a hand on Dolgrins shoulder she adds."Could you take care of my wounds, please!"


Seeing the insistence of the others, Dolgrin just grumbles something to himself in Dwarven before moving to the middle of the group and sending out a wave of healing energies.

As he does so, the injured leader of this warband stops his death throes as the wound to it's throat closes up. He looks around at you all frantically as it begins reaching for it's club!

"It is alright. Some have ran off. We have saved the others. As I said we are not your enemy. Let me help you up."

Govannan stands nearby, and waits to see what their leader plans to do. He hopes this is a turning point...


The lizard man stops the reaching with his clawed hand and just scowls at you all. It looks at Galendir’s hand and snarls before spitting on it!

Draconic:
”You soft-skins are all alike! You want us for slaves! The King of the Forest will have nothing of it! Serving him is better than serving you!”

The other remaining lizardfolk warily lowers itself to the ground, sitting passively on its knees in defeat.

Galendir looks at the spit and shakes it off. He takes a step back. He continues to speak in Draconic.

"That is just rude and gross. Come grab your weapon. I know soft skins in the past have wanted such. We do not, but it will take time for us to show you. Can you take us to the king then?"

He looks to his companions for the ones that don'ts speak draconic.

"He says they have a king and he will not tolerate us, but we can only win them over with compassion and understanding. I fear there will be more blood before anything else. I asked him to lead us to the king."


Draconic:
”I would die before taking you to our nests!”


”Auch!” Dolgrin grunts, ”It’s jus’ as I said! They know nothin’ but blood an’ war. Tha’ forest would be better off withou’ ‘em, lads!” Dolgrin says as he packs his own pipe with tobacco.

Galendir nods and looks to the one on his knees and speaks to him in Draconic.

"And you, do you feel the same. You would rather die thinking all of us soft skins are the same. Holding on to hate for ones that offer peace and way to live and prosper together? You have seen we are capable of war. We have the means to destroy and take you as this one says, this in itself shows we don't want that or we would have came prepared to do so. Will you help us and your people?"


Human

"I hear you Dolgrin, but we should try. This on is in the military after all, so his solutions are all military ones. Perhaps their king is more reasonable, if we could only get an audience without killing half the village."

He watches Galendir communicate with the lizard folk and waits to see the outcome.


The other lizardfolk prisoner simply hangs its head and continues to sit passively. It mumbles something in its serpentine language...

”We are your slaves now. We now live to serve.”

In Draconic "Stand. You are not and will not be a slave. You are a hero for you have saved the lives of some of your people. We will tell those that lead what you have done. I ask that you continue to help your people. What is your name. I am Galendir. You can become known for the one that helped to establish a peace among the soft skins. You have a chance here and now for your name to be told among your people for years to come. Will you continue to help them? Will you take us to your leader so we can establish a peace?" He extends his hand to help the lizard man from his knees.

He lets his allies know.

"He called himself a slave. I reassured him he was not and his people would not be slaves."

The lizardfolk seems utterly broken, and simply replies:

The larger lizardfolk captain snarls and goes to lunge at the captive lizardfolk, but a quick thud renders him unconscious on the ground. Above him, Dolgrin smirks and wipes off the blood from Thunderer as he looks around at you all. "Wha'? He was bein' a prick. An' obviously 'e didn' like wha' tha' one said, which means it must be willin' ta 'elp, right? He'll be fine, I jus' gave 'im a love tap from Thunderer 'ere. 'e'll wake up wi' a nasty 'eadache is all."

"He will help. I will continue to talk with him. Lets be off. Surely the others will let them know to expect us. We could be heading into another ambush. Be on guard."

He looks to the lizard man and speaks in Draconic.

"Come then friend. Lead us. I'm afraid the others will set an ambush for us. We will do our best to not kill any of your kind. We truly seek peace and I hope some day soon you will understand. Perhaps even you may lead your people. Only time will tell."


Human

"Well done Galendir. Hopefully we can wedge them into some sort of peacefulness. And I suspect you're right about the ambush. We should be cautious."

He'll remount and look around a little before heading off.

The conscious lizardfolk guides you back to the tribe. Their island network rests in the middle of the Murque River, about 50' from shore. The islands themselves are barely ten feet above the water level at their highest point, and a ten foot palisade surrounds the central island.

As you near the shore, the captive guide kneels down again, and you can see a gathering of lizardfolk collecting on the central island along the pallisade.

"Stand my friend. Introduce us to your people. Please tell them we came to talk."


Human

Govannon eyes the palisade and considers his flight path. He can carry one other, though maybe not the heavily armored Galendir or Dolgrin - the others surely.

He hopes it will not come to combat... again. He listens to Galendir's speech and wonders if he's going to need to learn the Draconic tongue to speak to the lizard folk - or if they'll have to engage in war.

He hopes the former as he waits for the lizard folk.

Flaith looks at the kneeling troll and remarks.
"Galendir, maybe you should tell him that they should not kneel. They are a strong proud race, and we do not seek slaves but allies!"

Assume even if I don't state it I repeat to the group what I said in draconic if were not in combat.

"I have done so many times over now my queen. He feels defeated and they only seem to know war or slavery from us softskins. This will take time."


The lizardfolk captive stands as instructed and calls out to his tribe.

Draconic:
"These soft skins defeated us downriver. They say they want peace. They have spared my life to deliver their message to you all."

There is a muttering from the collecting lizard-men behind the palisade. Eventually, one calls out in broken Taldane, "We serve soft-skins no more! We serve King of Forest now!"

”Truly?” a deep rumbling from behind and above sends a pang if dread through each of your spines. As you turn to see who spoke, you are greeted with the sight of...the forest. That is, until parts of it start to move that seem to make no sense. A tree trunk moves oddly, the canopy seems to stretch and rustle into the shape of a wing. As your eyes adjust, you all realize you are suddenly face to face with a behemoth of a dragon!

It’s scales are a dull emerald green, and it’s eyes regard you with a cruel curiosity as it tilts its head sideways to study you all.

”So tell me then, mortals. What do you offer that I simply cannot claim, as I have claimed this territory and these slaves as my own?” the dragon asks as it steps out of the tree line, it’s footfalls causing the earth itself to shake. Dolgrin’s horse rears and bucks, tossing him off and running back towards the town as hard as it can!
