How unfortunate. Skeletons can't take the Beastkin Heritage (which can only be taken by Ancestrieswith the Humanoid trait). Would have been neat to describe what happens to a Beastkin's Skeleton as it used its shape changing abilities. Their bones breaking and reshaping in front of everyone's eyes.
You can take the monstrous skeleton heritage, at the very least.
The synergy for this year feels even tighter than all of last year’s good stuff. It’s a strategy I really enjoy - and doubly so for it focusing on places outside the traditional faux-European mold.
Much as I like Ustalav, I have a fairly amount of information of what goes on there. Nex, Geb, Jalmeray, etc aren't as fleshed out, so I am glad they get to shine.
A recent thread of mine about Iblydos had one of the devs say they don't want to tackle it until they have a Mythic-equivalent finished. I don't believe it's considered part of the Inner Sea region, which is why it was in Distant Shores.
I'd say my interest has been greatly piqued. Also happy to hear about not only Ustalav (which I expected in some form), but also Shenmen and Valenhall too! =D
Aaron is incredibly thorough here and also very careful just in case we sneak something in: for example, he is technically correct when he said nightshades aren't in the bestiary section... under that name.
I'll be out for a few days, so I'm batching some answers.
Companions:
There are undead familiars, companions and eidolons. The Soul Warden Archetype, who consider themselves an honorary psychopomp, can get a psychopomp familiar. For companions the "Undead mast" archetype is there, yes.
Hooray for more implements! Also like the idea to go for a more caster-y route or just have a few magical tricks for the design. A magic magpie, indeed!

Has anyone considered changing the light bulb in the archive to make it less dark? No? Just me?
Mildly-Lit Archive doesn't sound like a very interesting book.
Or worse, what if someone brought torches in and we got Flaming Archive.
Happy news indeed! Congrats to the UPW for their start, and to Paizo for putting a step forwards.
