![]() I'm sure you will have a subset of the audience who is *super* hyped to play goblins, and for them I'm glad for them. From my perspective it does look like carving some Paizo IP into the Pathfinder 2E rulebook, and it looks like there are a number of people in this thread saying it is a stretch. Tieflings would be a much better core option in my opinion, because they have a whole nation (Cheliax) which a Tiefling fits to come from. We already allow PCs to be from Cheliax in society and in homegames, so it's not a big stretch. As others have iterated better than I, Goblins in the setting while silly and more destructive than evil, have been portrayed as a villain and not something that you put in your party. For me, if others want to be a goblin, I don't want to take their fun away. To me, it feels more marketing and IP driven than what fits in Golarion lore. ![]()
![]() Very excited to see what season two brings! Hard reset is no worries for me. PFS in PF1 was a great time, and we'll have the same in PF2 I'm sure. As for my votes for the systems moving forward: Starting fresh is fine, and pick the option which gives you lot the most design space to give Pathfinder Society players the most fun ongoing. We trust you, and having space to breath and make cool stuff is an important resource. I like PFS subsystems which have been introduced along the way: faction boons you purchase, the boon slots, things which we can do *because* we're society characters. That's a personal preference though, and I know that the #1 thing I want is a thriving PFS. ![]()
![]() It's true that the things you say are present in PFS, with the exception of creating monsters since that's not the focus of pfs. In home games, these things still come up, and sometimes it's because groups play pfs and home games in combination. The system is yet to be fully revealed, but I'll be looking at this stuff when I can play the full system. Without it, all there really is to do is argue with people on the internet about it :) ![]()

This is the most concise message of correct advice here. It sucks when a player isn't jiving and they are close or important to you outside the game. It is never okay to be passive aggressive about a disagreement like this, pathfinder related or not. It might be a tough situation, but talking to them and working out what you both want from the game and trying to make it work. Whenever I start a game, I'm very open about what I'm looking for in the characters, and also the tone. That means I avoid most of these problems before they become long term ![]()
![]() Well, in my opinion you should worry more about the character you'd like to play over worrying if you'll be most effective. I think both are viable, so I would first work out the roleplaying flavour you like, and then if it fits shatter resolve then go that way, or if it favours undead master then go that way. That is how I would look at it. ![]()
![]() Kodger is correct, as long as you're within 1 step of the deity you can select to worship them. As for your question about roleplaying, I would suggest having this character come from Geb where having undead slaves is not only accepted, but a way of life. It is more efficient to have workers who do not tire or eat like a traditional slave would. To me, this would allow you to roleplay the character with your own spin (a salesman of undead slaves, perhaps an undead physician - ensuring the undead were in top shape and ready for work, etc). The main thing is to balance the evil feeling parts of the character (undeath, urgathoa) with a positive and nice personality. If I had this character I would want other people to say "That character is really nice and reasonable, it's just the undead I find weird." Hope that helps! ![]()
![]() Hi Paul! Glad to have you back in the country. Season 6 has been enjoyable for me thus far (once you get past the Technologist debacle) and I'm excited to hear about how Dunedin players will get to experience it. Waypoint would have definitely been better with you along, but there will be BattleCry in early 2015 for the Dunedin players to come along to. ![]()
![]() Very excited both on the race changes, particularly that we get a new small race. As for the quests, this is a good response to allow for slots which are not 4-5 hours to include some games. Are there plans for regular releases for these modular quests? I have a feeling my players will eat this up, in which case I hope there will be more coming quickly soon after for us to keep using them. ![]()
![]() Since I put the challenge onto the players to make a character from the terrible archetypes as chosen by you lot in this thread. I have since put together my core monk (although I have been given Gnomes of Golarion too, so I will definitely be making use of Bewildering Koan. The theme is that he is one of three gnomes from Yavipho in Garund. Growing up he hated that those who were not born short stout and with fancy hair considered his race to be weak and unable to compete in the local gnoll wrestling which takes part in southern Osirion. Determined, he is ready to be unleashed upon anyone and show them that he too can pin with the best of them. He has formed the Gnome Wrestling Assocation or G.W.A. and wishes to make it internationally approved. Mechanically I thought I had to do something entertaining with him. Damage is dull at the best of times. No one is impressed by damage numbers, not even your own mother. Instead I decided to give him a wrestling theme, which is why I went with Agile Maneuvers to make him a little less MAD. (I wasn't allowed to take any stat below 10 as per the challenge, which makes core monk even tougher) If you lot have any ideas for how I should advance Wobblenozzle I will take it into account, especially if it's before 2 when I can retrain at will. his stats: Dinwin Wobblenozzle
![]()
![]() You don't like Halflings? How can you call yourself a kiwi Glen? It's okay, I must admit I'm the same when it comes to halfings, and as for your filcher I hope you stick with the theme and try to steal things left and right. I'll also enjoy the moment you get fireballed, and when someone says "Oh but the Rogue takes 0 because he passed his reflex save" and people will wonder why you're still upset. ![]()
![]() I think it's important to split the mechanical section 'This is what you should do with the chronicles' with the social section 'This is how you deal with the player. As for how to handle the chronicles, Jeffrey Fox described perfectly what you should do. For the player itself, we all know that RL things come up, both at the table and online. This can range from an emergency, to really jarring with the players at the table. It's always undervalued the importance of speaking to the player and finding out why they made the switch, and working through it with both parties. As a once off I wouldn't be too offended, but if it becomes a pattern then again speaking to the player and identifying why the games are routinely dropped. I hope you're able to work it all out. (Apoc I'm surprised you're still only 1-star, get onto it!) ![]()
![]() I have a PFS character based on this and I decided to dive 100% in and resulted with the following: Alchemist (Ragechemist) 2/Barbarian (Titan mauler) 2/Fighter (Two-Handed Fighter) 8. Because you have so many bonuses to STR it doesn't really matter based on the negatives for 2x two big weapons. Scythe or Greatsword or whatever makes you excited and twirl them around hoping to connect with people. ![]()

The prestige classes are secondary to the bad archetypes, as the players will need to reach around 6th level with these characters before the PrCs become meaningful. That said, the intention was that the PrCs would give the character a further theme. These PCs while being under the curve will still be PFS characters and should be memorable by their role play as well as their mechanics. I'm very happy with the responses we've got from this thread, and Tuesday the 24th is when the characters will be assigned to players. We may see some carry on threads from people trying to make Wave rider cavaliers viable in PFS. ![]()
![]() Thanks for all the suggestions thus far. The players who end up playing these archetypes are free to min Max them, however the spirit of the challenge is to use the custom abilities given by the archetype. Having a crossbowmen Fighter who uses a greatsword technically works, but is hardly worth making a fuss about. Note we will roll randomly to determine race, and not allowing any stat below 10 means that MAD archetypes will naturally be worse. Monk archetypes are what we're dreading the most. ![]()
![]() I am pleased to announce that Pathfinder Society in New Zealand have a new officer for both the North and the South Island. Isaac White (RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32) has always been a large part of the Auckland Pathfinder Society scene, from relentlessly GMing event after event to creating regular newsletters for the society. There is a condifence, and level of professionalism with everything he does. Isaac has decided accept the title of Venture Lieutenant - Auckland to solidify and bolster Auckland's Pathfinder Society. Isaac bought me my first roleplaying book 10 years ago and has been involved in very close to 100% of games that I have been present in. He is a software engineer by day, and killer GM by night. If you would like to get a hold of Isaac White, you can do so at pfsisaacwhite <at> gmail <dot> com. In a much colder part of New Zealand, I would like to introduce you to Paul Trani, our new Venture Lieutnenant - Dunedin. Hailing as the previous Venture Captain of Asheville North Carolina in the USA, Paul has recently relocated to the South Island of New Zealand. Already he has contacted a local group of players who played Pathfinder but had never heard of Pathfinder Society. Quickly Paul has changed this, and is looking for opportunities to grow their community from a single table to a thriving mecca for PFS. Paul has an incredible level of enthusiasm for Pathfinder Society, and when we first corresponded by phone the planned 15 minute phone call easily turned to 3 hours of Pathfinder stories, and ways that Pathfinder can be grown in New Zealand. As the first Venture Officer in the South Island, Paul's role will be to serve as a more local contact for players looking for Pathfinder Society, and he will work with myself to better integrate the North and South Island's events. If you would like to get a hold of Isaac White, you can do so at we.be.dunedinpfs <at> gmail <dot> com. These two officers already have a great history with Paizo, but please make these two feel welcome in their new roles, and if you are a PFS player in New Zealand, or are thinking about becoming one get in contact with these officers and lets get you sitting down at a table and rolling some 20's! ![]()
![]() Thank you all for the kind words! It's been a great ride since I started organising Pathfinder Society here in Auckland, and this begins the next chapter. In the near future I am planning to spread Pathfinder Society to the other city centres in New Zealand. After seeing how many players came out of the woodwork when I became a venture officer in April, I can't wait to see the results when we get Venture Officers spread across the North and South Island. I also hear a common theme amongst most posts in this thread, conventions! currently RPG conventions are non-existent in New Zealand, at least in the way we understand them in Australia. This will change in future, I promise. Watch this space! ![]()
![]() Hi Helaman, For seasons 0-4 you will still use the faction mission handouts which are with the modules. The year long faction goals are not used for previous scenarios. In terms of gaining Prestige, in the scenario at the end it will state that every player gets 1 prestige for the main goal of the scenario, and then the conditions for which a player of each faction can earn a second prestige point. Hope that helps you out. ![]()
![]() Hi all, Thank you Alistair for that grand introduction. I'm glad to finally get to step up to this position. I've met so many fantastic people playing this game, and I thoroughly look forward to getting to know more New Zealand players, and to help facilitate better and more RPG events in our great country. Al already said above, but if you are a player here in NZ, please get in contact with me, as I'd love to get a network of players so that we're able to connect in a way that was previously impossible. Regards,
![]()
![]() Hi Stefan, Unfortunately I haven't had any communications from anyone in the South Island, however I organise games and groups here within Auckland. Alistair has been pushing for me to go for Venture Captaincy, but I remain a part time devotee to Pathfinder at current. If you want to give me an email at: (Sephrilum AT gmail DOT com) then I can link you to the facebook page I run, which hopefully will allow you to co-ordinate games within New Zealand, whether they be Convention based games, home games, or Store based society games. I'm always interested in emailing, skyping, meeting up for coffee (if distance allows) with Pathfinder players, especially ones trying to become more connected with a larger group of players. - Chris

![]() Gaming Paper, maker of fine mapping accessories and adventures for nearly five years, is proud to introduce the second product in the Megadungeon line. This is Megadungeon 2 "The Lost Catacombs". It is 25 pages of geomorphic (they are compatible in many different configurations by design) maps. Have you seen the Megadungeon 1? If not here is a link Megadungeon 2 is completely compatible with Megadungeon 1. We're introducing the Megadungeon 2 on Kickstarter because we need to fund the initial design and printing. If we can exceed our funding objective, we will reward your support with generous Stretch Goals – and make a great offer even more enticing! Anyone pledging $7 or more will be eligible for the FREE Stretch Goals. These stretch goals will allow us to G-R-O-W the Megadungeon and make it even better. ![]()
![]() Gaming Paper has been a welcome addition to the GM's toolkit. It comes in rolls 30" wide and 12' long. It is clay-coated so it takes marker incredibly well. It is permanent, allowing GMs to draw up all of their maps before the game. This reduces wasted game time, allows the game master to draw more interesting and immersive maps, and you can save your maps. Until now, Gaming Paper has only been available in one color combination: tan with blue lines. That is what this is all about. We want to add color to Gaming Paper. All of the colors will be available in both square and hex pattern. Click here to go to the Kickstarter. It has many pictures of all the new color options, information about the first stretch goals, and three amazing add ons. Including Gaming Paper Singles Cobblestone - which is like have 100 double sided dungeon (or city, or tavern, or castle, or inn, or warehouse) tiles Thank you and good gaming. ![]()
![]() Welcome to adventure on the high seas! You are currently reading about Gaming Paper's first sourcebook, full of character options. Herein you will find a multitude of new feats, archetypes, spells, races, and equipment to more accurately reflect adventuring in a setting similar to the golden age of piracy on Earth, but with the fantasy twist common to Pathfinder games. And the cover is awesome! Take a look. http://kck.st/PKDjeI We were planning on publishing this in September, but the stars have all aligned and all the elements of the sourcebook were turned in two weeks early! We are going for a GenCon release! Can't wait. Thanks for checking it out. ![]()
![]() Erik Bauer from Gaming Paper here! We have a new Kickstarter (well it's not totally new...it is about 12 days old and has only 8 days left. It is an amazing high level Pathfinder Role Playing Game adventure written by John Ling, maps by Lazz, and artwork by Joel Biske and Jude Beers. Please take a look and consider giving us your support! You can read all about it right here: http://kck.st/Mh7CtX Now a word from the author John Ling! Erik wanted a post from the author, but frankly… he’s an idiot, barely capable of stringing together words into a coherent sentence, let alone making a paragraph. And so, for your benefit, I’ve used one of my spell slots to get that fool out of the way for a while. Please, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Leander d’Arstond. I’m a supremely intelligent wizard who had the audacity to sacrifice some clerics of the Sun God and fracture my phylactery into four pieces. Don’t worry — I’ll avoid too many big words so as not to confuse you mere mortals. I’m about as evil as they come, one bad ass dude as you might say in your vernacular. I rip the tags off mattresses and laugh about it! With introductions out of the way, allow me a moment to convince you not to buy this little product. You would need to be a fool to invest even a simple six gold coins in this endeavor. I understand that Top Ten lists are popular among dwellers of your particular Material Plane, and so I’ll debase myself this one time to give you the Top Ten Reasons Not to Buy This Product. 10. Ling is an idiot. He and Bauer agreed to make this little soirée on the planes between 24,000 and 26,000 words. The moron instead wrote 34,000 words! If the man (I use the term loosely) can’t even hit a simple target, how do you expect him to produce quality? 9. For his part, Bauer has issues, too. His writer blew word count, and he didn’t assert breach of contract? And he’s going to publish the extra words? And not charge more for it? These are the sort of business decisions that make me weep. 8. Need more proof Bauer has no business sense? The man hired Lou Agresta to write an adventure. Seriously, he must have been desperate. I can promise you, dear reader, that Rone Barton wrote the good parts of that debacle, and he still weeps at the prospect of having to share the title page with Agresta. 7. Clearly, Ling and Bauer are boring, too. Want evidence? Nobody has even sniffed at the pledge level to have dinner with them at this thing called GenCon — whatever that is. Smart, dear readers. Very smart. Ling would probably just sit there and drool on his plate, and Bauer, no doubt, will regale you with boring tales about his characters. The fact that you could run up a 500 gold coin tab at one of the finest restaurants in downtown Indianapolis is clearly not enough to make that experience worthwhile! 6. Gaming Paper? Seriously, have you ever looked at what it is? It’s wrapping paper, with lines drawn on it. What sort of flagship product is that? It’s not like it’s super-convenient or anything. I mean, you have to rip it or cut it. What’s wrong with a little water, a rag, and some elbow grease to clean off a vinyl mat? 5. I have a highly skilled assassin strike team at my beck and call. Ling thinks the best use for that team is to send them after your PCs, with detailed instructions on how to kill them — and why killing them isn’t a big deal! But just understand… this is my strike team. I could opt to send them after you, instead, if you think traveling to the planes is a good idea. 4. Just so you understand Ling’s lack of writing skill… Assassin strike team aside, there’s a good chance your PCs will DIE while trying to track me down. Where’s the fun in that? Then you have to listen to them whine and cry while they make new characters, and they’ll likely blame you for it! I mean, I’ve had centuries to prepare for their PCs. Hell, one whole room of my lair is covered in glyphs and symbols. How do you think your PCs will survive that? Undead minions (including blood urchins, something you’ve probably never even heard of since it’s my very own creation!), constructs, fire giants, airship pirates, an advanced aboleth sorcerer, an angry and territorial crag linnorn, rock trolls, oozes, devils, demons, angels. I have so many minions — some of whom don’t even know they’re my minions — your players don’t stand a chance. 3. More proof that Ling’s writing is terrible? Bauer needs to hide it by doing things such as including color artwork, six full page maps by Rob Lazzeretti — the only talented person Bauer hired for this catastrophe — and a slew of black and white art. Clearly, Bauer is looking to take your attention away from the fiasco that is Ling’s writing. 2. Back to Bauer’s business sense… have you looked at some of the rewards? He’s practically giving away his only decent product: All Stars Take on the Mega Dungeon. What a terrible business decision, giving away perfectly good product just to get suckers to buy the balderdash Ling is writing. And since your players are angry with you for killing their characters, you’ll have nobody with whom to play All Stars. Save your money! And the Number One Reason not to purchase this product? 1. Seriously, how many times do I need to say it? Ling is an idiot who couldn’t write his way out of a wet paper bag, even if you ripped a hole in it to get him started. The dude thinks magical chamber pots are a good idea! Run, good reader. Run! Take your money somewhere else. There’s no need for you to purchase this obvious failure of a product. You don’t need the 34,000 words, the planar travel, the devious traps, the precious rewards, the glorious maps from Lazz, the color artwork. The fact that my unlife is at risk if your gaming group gets this has absolutely nothing at all to do with this suggestion, either. Speaking of suggestion, don’t make me break out more spells in order to convince you! Run! Go outside and play or something. I think while I have Ling under my control for a little while longer, I’ll take advantage of it. My lair needs cleaning… Just in case your PCs show up anyway, I need to get rid of the cobwebs. Sincerely, Leander d’Arstond Evil Mastermind http://kck.st/Mh7CtX ![]()
