The serpentine bloodline has the ability Serpentfriend, which grants a viper familiar.

At 3rd level, you can use speak with animals at will with reptilian animals (including various forms of dinosaurs, lizards, and other cold-blooded creatures), and you gain a viper familiar using your sorcerer level –2 as your effective wizard level.

If a serpentine sorcerer had the Improved Familiar feat, would it be applicable here? I know that it has to be a viper familiar, but the list of improved familiar options includes familiar, celestial/entropic/fiendish/resolute/etc. The minimum level for all of these templated familiars (except clockwork) is 3rd.

In the description of the False Idol template, it lists an ability called Mark of the Idol. The part of it that confuses me is this:

It can also, as a standard action, cause pain to a mark bearer that deals 1d6 points of damage/2 HD with no saving throw.

Normally, it specifies the creature whose hit dice it’s referring to. Are the damage dice based off of the false idol creature’s HD, or are they based off of the target’s HD?

Apologies if this has already been asked, I couldn’t find it on the forums.

My question is how the daily uses of a creature’s spell-like abilities works.
For example, if there is a creature that has “3/day- ethereal jaunt, greater invisibility” listed under spell-like abilities, does this mean they can use each one three times a day, or that the daily uses of each can’t exceed 3 (e.g. two uses of ethereal jaunt and one use of greater invisibility)? My guess is the second one, since that’s how spells are listed for spontaneous casters, but I wasn’t quite sure.

So I'm running a PbP, and it's been one or two months since one of the players has posted anything on the paizo forums. I got a new player as replacement, but here's the problem: I need a way to get rid of the absent character, who I've been botting.
If it matters, the character is a level 1 paladin, and they're in a swamp.

This is the discussion thread for the Trail of the Apprentice adventure path. If anyone who isn't a part of this game finds it, this is just a continuation of an IRL game. I'll put some helpful links in the Campaign Info tab.

It has been about two weeks since your battle with Black Fang. The four of you are relaxing in the Rusty Dragon, sharing some drinks. However, you are startled by the sudden sound of a bell tolling repeatedly, followed shortly by the sound of footfalls and screams. As you run outside, you see that there are four orcs across the small field in the town square. One of them is hacking away at the door of the house and shop of Edwin Pierce, the local blacksmith. Three orcs armed with axes and javelins stand guard around him, watching for any villagers who try to stop them. Most of the villagers are either hiding in the back of their various shops and taverns, or trying to dislodge a large wagon that is propping the gate to the east open.

Welcome to the Trail of the Apprentice! I'll open the gameplay thread in just a few moments. I'll put the link to the maps in the Campaign Info tab. Since there are way more maps this time around, I can't put the alphanumeric labeling on them, so just post which directions you move in and I'll update it when I can.

After consulting a map of the surrounding countryside, you find an as-of-yet-unexplored cave not too far away, the only one for miles. By late morning you find yourselves in front of an opening in the cliff face obscured by thick hanging moss. In front of it, there stands a vaguely humanoid statue holding what appears to be a staff. It's hard to discern details, since it is very heavily eroded.

Black Fang's Dungeon is a 1st level adventure, designed for those new to Pathfinder. However, I would prefer you to have an understanding of basic rules, since communication in a Play-by-Post can be slow.
