Welcome to the Trail of the Apprentice! I'll open the gameplay thread in just a few moments. I'll put the link to the maps in the Campaign Info tab. Since there are way more maps this time around, I can't put the alphanumeric labeling on them, so just post which directions you move in and I'll update it when I can.

Just waiting for the PC icons to be added to the map, then I'll go ahead with my turn. :)

Not sure what happened, but I could have sworn the initiative rolls at the start were different. I can either keep the order we have, and insert Cammy partway through, or rearrange the order according to what the rolls currently are and put Cammy at initiative count 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17. Preferences?

Yup, the rolls match the text.

Could someone clarify for me whether I am allowed the two level 1 spells? I'm a level 1 Paladin so as I understand it I get Smite Evil/Detect Eveil/Aura of Good at Level 1 but nothing else? Sorry if I've got this wrong.
I'll admit to not really understanding how spells work in Pathfinder or how to work out how many I'm allowed.
GM MacShack
Paladins don't get spell casting at first level. However, "learning" new spells is only helpful to Phedran or Belliken, since when you get access to first level spells, you know all of them on the first level paladin spell list. But with sorcerers and alchemists, they only know a certain amount out of the spell list for any given level, and can learn new spells to add to their spells known list.
Belliken Weaver
All the different casters work different. Sorcerers don't know all of their spells, but can cast any they know anytime. Other classes have to prepare each day which specific spells they want to prepare.
Are we close to level one what with the orc fight?
Belliken Weaver
On the paladin spells per day table it has a 0 for level one spells at level 4. That means when you get to level 4 you have the ability to cast, but dont get any base spells per day. You will however be able to cast because every character gets bonus spells per day, and you will get as many as you charisma modifier. So you can cast twice a day any level one paladin spell at level four.
Hank the Keeper
Paladins are good beginner characters in part because you get spells later on, so you can concentrate on learning combat until level four, when you get to switch gears. But when you get 'em you can ask ol' Hank for advice since he's a prepared divine caster and the operations are fairly similar.

So, I really hope Sofia shows up again. I was talking with my wife Kate about how we're down a person in the party, at least for now, and she had the idea that we could invite the lurker who read our Black Fang's Dungeon game to join up if we needed a replacement. They at least know the characters and backstory. Thought I'd throw it out there, not a bad idea. We could run a five character party if Sofie does roll in again sometime.

It would certainly alleviate the load taken on by the GM to have to bot a PC.

Hey everyone! I just caught up on my reading. I am still working my character. This weekend is a bit busy because I had to make a road trip for a wedding but I hope to have a character rolled up by the end of the weekend. I am thinking a melee character of some kind (probably 2 handed weapon person).
Thanks again for the invite!
Quick question, do we know what level we are playing to? I just wanted to check before making my character. I am leaning towards a earth breaker using ranger.

Just went back and realized that i need to roll my stats. Always scary but here we go!
stat 1: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 5) = 18
stat 2: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 4) = 17
stat 3: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 6) = 20
stat 4: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1, 3) = 15
stat 5: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 5) = 17
stat 6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 6) = 11
wow! That is an amazing roll. So stats to spread are:
14
15
16
14
15
10
A 34 point buy? Yes please haha I am thinking a half orc wild hunter (ranger achetype). Back story is that he is the product of orc rape of a captive human woman. He was brought up in the orc community. But being a half breed he was not treated the best and decided that he would better serve off in the woods. He learned how to hunt from his "brothers" and has been living off the land.
I will post where stats are going later. I figured he would be willing to join the mission because he doesn't like orcs and his nature living would put him in environment to find you guys and join up. Thoughts?
Before I choose skills, are we missing anything big as a group?

Welcome aboard! And yeah, that’s the best stat array I’ve ever witnessed having been rolled, haha.
I think that the Ranger’s bread and butter class skills (Handle Animal, Perception, Stealth, Survival, etc) ought to be more than enough.
Hank the Keeper
Heheh considering that poor ol' Hank rolled a 1 point buy... a single point...
My own favorite half-orc character is the child of two half-orcs and had a really great childhood on their farm, but somehow that kind of happy half-orc is extremely uncommon in Pathfinder.
Karthurg "The Lurker"
I agree, happy half orcs are fun. The last homebrew I played in, I played a half orc cleric who was born of a orc and was born of a married human and orc. She pastor at a church and helped my character's father find the civil life. It was really fun! I just liked the idea of this character living in the wild and hard to have a happy character who would rather live in the wild than his family.
But this is his alias. I will work on filling it out.

Yeah, we haven't gotten a ton of treasure as a party so I don't think you'll be too far behind for long, even with just starting wealth. Our big magic item is the wand of Cure Light Wounds we pooled to buy--and robo-Sofia's dragonbane longsword, of course.

Would the party be off the left side of the map, then? Off some distance, I assume, unless we close to melee distance with the orcs?

Apologies for a lack of quality (ie. flavour, fluff, etc) in my updates recently - come mid-November all the way to Christmas eve, I work 7 days a week, with Monday to Saturday being 9am - 8pm days. By the time I get home, my leisure time is at a premium (and being taken up with various videogames' holiday event grinds (I'm looking at you, Overwatch, and Heroes of the Storm, curses to you and and your holiday specific skins...)
It'll get better going forward, as now I can snag a nearby WiFi signal during the day, on my breaks. :)

Printer/retouching/post-production for a photographic studio, we just also happen to have the contract for the local mall's Santa photos. So regular studio work in the morning, then managing and operating the Santa setup in afternoons and evenings. It's like working two jobs in the holiday season, so the money is too good to pass up.
Hank the Keeper
Doesn't get much more holiday season than making the kids in the Santa photos cute--good luck with the rush! My one friend who is totally overwhelmed works for Amazon. So many packages to shepherd around. And he has a new kid. I'm anxious because I'm hunting for jobs, he's anxious because he has one. That's life I guess.

Everyone have a decent holiday season? I'm good to get back into the swing of things, if everyone else is!
