I am sorry to say that I am going to have to absent myself from the boards for awhile. Some real life things have come up, and I can't take the time to play or run any games. Sorry to let you all down like this. I have enjoyed playing with you all and hope my leaving won't be too much of an inconvenience. To those of you in my Skull and Shackles game I can't tell you how sorry I am to disappear on you all like this. I said I would finish at least the first book of the AP but it just isn't possible right now.

Brom follows Fenn into the dining room and looks around curiously. This is an area where we might find a wine bottle but all the bottles here look empty. Thats not the bottle we were sent for. Brom says once he has a chance to look at the bottle. Dugan said it would have an anvil on it this one has a griffen.

What did you find? He asks skully when she pulls the sack from under the floor boards?

When they have finished searching the room Brom retrieves his Lucerne Hammer from the floor. He bounces it in his hands for a moment mentally waying the benefits of having it against the close confines of the manor. After a moments though he reaches a decision and takes the pole arm back to the entrance where he leans it against the wall. Returning to the group he draws his bastard sword. Don't let me forget that when we leave. he says to Jeseare.

Caught by Fenn's shove unaware Brom staggers away from the recumbent hobgoblin. Rounding on the Half-elf and seeing the drawn sword Brom swings the point of his pole arm to point at Fenn.

What the hell are you doing? Brom growls at Fenn.

Fenn wrote:

Your right! We are being paid to retrieve a bottle of wine. You're the one that said you wanted to cleanse this place, but I am starting to get the impression what you want is to get us all killed.

Fenn wrote:

We need to question him. . . . .An if he is involved then he's a prisoner tha' we march back ta' New Wesel as proof we did take care o' the bandits.. and not just hear-say. Skully can tie him up an he'll keep until then, he is not a threat."

Brom drops his Lucerne Hammer and buries his face in his hands. He stands like that taking deep breaths for a long moment. Final he lowers his hands.

Are you stupid? You know what that is don't you? That's a hobgoblin. They live for warfare. That thing would happily kill and eat us. Brom throws up his hand and turns away. Do what you want, this is on you. As soon as we find that bottle of wine I am leaving. you can pursue your fool quest on your own.

Brom turns his attention to searching the room leaving the hobgoblin to Fenn.

It is up to the GM to make calls on all of this but this is the best place for the discussion.

Pathfinder PRD wrote:

The Nature of Goblinoid Evil

Goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears, despite having superficial similarities, each represent a different face of evil. Hobgoblins are ordered and methodical in their evil, forming vast armies, warbands, and despotic nations. Goblins are the primal evil, seeking only cruelty and petty victimization as they can find it, be that among their own kind or against their neighbors. Yet the evil personified by the bugbear may be the most terrifying, for they actively seek to inflict pain and suffering in the most destructive ways possible.

goblins, hobgoblin, bugbears, orcs, and other races are assumed evil. yes there maybe some members of the races that aren't but they are exceptions to the rule.

The Cronicler - GM wrote:
He speaks of a leader but explains that he is not so much a chief as a master. He is as big as a human and goes by the name Goot.

The goblin said that the leader was as big as a human not that it was a human. The hobgoblin fits this description.

If the hobgoblin isn't to be left behind then either someone has to carry it or we wait around for it to wake up. Once it is a wake it has to be watched at all times to keep it from escaping.

It is more reasonable that it is involved in the banditry in the area. It is doubtful that the hobgoblin is just taking a nap in the goblin lair before moving on to new Wesel to sell it's load of lace doillies.

Brom would agree that killing it in cold blood is not the best option but there is only five of us facing an unknow number of enemies. Offing the hobgoblin is the most ruthless solution but also the safest least resource intensive.

Fenn doesn't have to like it or accept it. We can fight over it but I am of the opinion that it fits within Broms alignment as explained by the rules.

Now how does Fenn justify leaving the goblin hanging upside down from a tree in the woods. I wouldn't want to be hung upside down for hours. That looks like torture to me, and it wasn't even done to gain information.

I will wait on the GM's judgement before fighting

Lawful Neutral: A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government.

1)hobgoblin-evil creature probably involved in killing and robbing merchants in the area.
2)Local authorities asked us to deal with the problem if we could.
3)The hobgoblin would have to be left behind. were it to get free it becomes an immediate threat to the safty of the party.
4)Brom is a mercenary, meaning he gets paid to kill people.

Fenn wrote:

The way I see it this action fits within Broms personal code and the law of the area. It makes tactical sense. It is progress towards Fenn's stated goal, and the execution of a criminal. What do you think would be done to the hobgoblin if we marched it back to New Wesel?
