So you could say Joey and Geyrn are too sick/hurt and still laying in bed and Alessa is watching over them. They may get left behind in Solace....

Brand is not drinking enough to get sloppy drunk. He'll fall behind in his drinking and try to keep Otik, Durom and Rumal busy talking and spilling his own drink. He's wise enough to know that he probably can't out drink Durom and knows he can't out drink Rumal. However... Brand drinks a few more rounds.
Listening to Otik, the big man leans toward the fireplace, warmed by the drink and the fire. Unusually serious Brand adds "I feel bad for them Otik. I know how to feels to want to find something bigger than yourself. To find some comfort from the hardship of this world. Well, maybe in the morning, when they release those prisoners they'll be allowed to go home and stay away from all this." Brand waves his hand in the air. Half whispering to Josiah "My friend, I'm with you if you wish to leave this place tomorrow. It's just not the place I remember."
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand sits in a chair near the fire and relaxes. He gazes into the flames for a moment and breathes a sigh. It feels good to me home again. Brand looks around at his friends and chuckles, but seeing how pale Geyrn is looking he hops back up and helps the warrior to a nearby seat. Otik I think we're going to need some accommodations for the night. Geryn here was injured on the way into town. Durom too. There were a number of goblins that ambushed us as we headed into Solace. It's a shame the town militia is too busy spending their time locking up peaceful protesters rather than patrolling for goblin scum that dare to come this close to town. Brand checks Geryn's bandages.
Male Human Cleric / 3
It looks at those people are desperate, which can be dangerous. All the anger Brand was feeling melts away and is replaced with pity. Brand looks around and frowns at the stockades, but Durom's urging to get on to Otik's is too much to resist. The big warrior's stomach grumbles. He looks back around and forces a smile. "I wish you peace my friends, but we must be on our way." Brand hustles to catch up to Durom. "After today I could use some good food, good drinks and good friends. Durom, did I ever tell you about that dwarf that I out drank in Crossing. Poor dwarf never could get over it. Of course he was from Kayolin, not Thorbardin. Maybe they don't make them as tough up north." Brand laughs for real making sure not to look at the temple or stockades less it ruin his mood.
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand stares at the flames for a moment before sighing and kicking dirt to put out the fire. He retrieves his weapon and gear and climbs up on the back of Janos' horse. Thanks for the lift my friend. I still find it hard to believe that things can be as bad as that. Goblins are like any other vermin, you just have to root the pests out now and again. I wouldn't be worried about it. Let's get to the inn and get something to eat!
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand drags his dire flail in the grass to get rid of the blood and matted fur sticking to it. Then he lays the metallic spiked ball in the fire to burn off any lingering traces of stench. Meanwhile he grabs his healer kit from his pack and head's over to Durom. Looking over his shoulder to Alessa, "That was one hell of a charge! Where in the world did you learn to do that?" He places a hand on the dwarf's shoulder to keep him still then he unpacks his kit. "You and Geryn are going to need at least three or four days of rest. Hold still a moment and let me tend to these bites." then he starts cleaning and dressing the wound. Heal Check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 "I'm all for heading into Solace and killing more of these bastards, but I'd rather do it on a full stomach if I had the choice."
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand wonders why everyone is leaving the fight when there is still one wolf attacking the dwarf. He swings at the last remaining wolf standing in a puddle of grease. Crunch:
Attacks wolf #1 Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 "Die you hairy bastard! Not you Durom."

Trapdodger Barefoot wrote: I thought the DM said the opponents ran away opening them up to sneak attack! Yeah, not all of them ran away. Wolf 1 and Wolf 3 stayed to fight. Alessa pretty much took care of Wolf 3, heh. But Wolf 1 was still up to full hit points and Joey put grease under it and it was attacking Durom. It has only taken 7 points of damage and was not subject to sneak attack. So Brands going to attack it I guess...
Male Human Cleric / 3
Are all the opponents really gone? I thought we were in round 4 and there were two wolves left, but everyone is acting like they all ran away... *confused* I know a few people dropped out of combat because they were hurt, but I didn't think the battle was over. Maybe I'm wrong...
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand on Round 3 Assuming that the wolf he crushed with his flail is going down for good Brand turns around and heads to help Durom. "I'm coming my friend! You're not alone." Spying the condition of Geryn as he rides by he adds "Don't you die on me again Geryn! I'm not playing nursemaid again to bring you back to life. Brand swings his flail. Brand moves south 2 squares Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand takes his attack of opportunity. Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Brand doesn't have a mount unless you say he must have one. He walked from the last small village he was in. Abanasinia is not that big. Plenty of people travel by walking from town to town.
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand follows Geryn's lead, swearing something about filthy goblins ruining his party. He grabs his heavy flail in two hands and positions himself between his friends and the charging enemy. Bellowing over his shoulder he says, "I'll buy anyone an ale for every goblin ear they can give me and a plate of spiced potatoes for every wolf ear!" Turning to the enemy, "Come on you slimy bastards!" Crunch: Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Brand will take both move actions to move to K5 placing himself between the goblins and the rest of the party. Holding his heavy flail waiting to attack.
Male Human Cleric / 3
"Aslaith and Alessa!" Brand bounds over and gives each one a hug in turn. He holds them back to inspect them. "Aslaith you haven't changed a bit. As beautiful as ever, but can this really be you Alessa? That scrawny little girl that left our company so many years ago? By the lost gods, you're a woman now! Now I'm starting to feel old." Brand laughs. He turns to Janos and grabs his hand to shake it. "Janos, good to see you again my friend." Brand looks around and lowers his voice only slightly. "Before you say anything, I just wanted to apologize about that whole fiasco with that young maiden that was sweet on you just before we left. She probably should have said something about the two of you, but you know her and I started drinking and once the ale is flowing, well one thing led to another... anyway, that's all behind us now. Yes?" Without waiting for an answer Brand looks around and says, "Yes, let's move on to Solace. Although you might want to give me and Trap a head start considering we don't have horses of our own. I sort of lost my "last" horse in a small gambling event in that last village I was in."
Male Human Cleric / 3
"No thanks Geryn." Brand says with a smile. "I haven't forgot that "rabbit" stew you made on that one trip. I still say it was skunk you had in that pot. I'm sure Durom and I agree that we'd face just about any danger to taste Otik's potatoes again." Brand laughs. Turning to Joey he says, "So my friend, do you have any new stories to tell us? Let's enjoy ourselves while we can. Meeting up after all this time should be a time to rejoice, not a time to sit around worrying and fretting about this or that."

My one lament is a lack of game stores and meeting people to play with IRL. I'm in Alabama. So it's a 9 hour drive, but luckily this year a friend gave me a voucher that was about to expire so I got to fly. Sean C. Macdonald wrote: So are we all friends or should any of us have bad blood between us? (like Sturm and Raistlin) I don't mean enemies, but opposing philosophies. If anyone is a stickler for the rules then Brand would probably rub them the wrong way. Just an idea. Sorry I posted as Sean C Macdonald, but I set my default to Brand now. As far as backgrounds, Brand has been on his own staying in the Abanasinia region north and west of Solace, but he hasn't been to Solace since he left five years ago.

Brand gives the dwarf a bear hug. "Durom! How have you been you old cuss? I see your still as ugly as ever." He laughs and releases his grasp. "Josh, Joey and Geryn need to lighten up. Things can't be that bad in Solace. Are there really goblins? I've heard of the Seekers. They're out of Haven right? I thought they were helping people. I met a missionary or two when I worked for some local merchant lords. They weren't bad people." Brand sits down next to Joey and stretches his legs out to warm his feet by the fire. He pulls the cork from the vial the gnome handed him and drinks it. His eyes start to water and he starts to cough. "*cough* Yup, that's the special brew all right. *cough* If there are goblins in Solace we'll go in and take them out. I think it's just an exaggeration anyway. Who in their right mind would hire goblins?" He wipes his eyes and turns to Trapdodger. "That's what I've been doing Trap. Killing goblins and other vermin for the past couple years. I mean I started looking for proof of the true gods, but I've given up. They don't exist." He takes another swig from the vial and begins to cough again.
Male Human Cleric / 3
Brand hums to himself as he approaches the fire on the road ahead. As he walks he shrugs his shoulders to readjust his pack and makes sure his flail is loose in the holster. He's not sure who he might meet, but confident that he's more than a match for them. As he draws near he hears the unmistakable slurred voice of Rumal talking about ale and he relaxes. "Ho! What have we here? I go away for a few years and you decide to start a party without me? How have you been? Trapdodger, I barley even noticed you over there. Rumal my friend got any of that special brew to share?" Looking at Geryn, Joey and Josiah. "Why is everyone so serious and jumpy? Is it me? I know I'm a bit older, but I've been told I've only grown more handsome with my age." Brand smiles and greets his friends giving them hearty pats on their backs. Yay! My first ever in character post!

Ahh I see that they didn't convert the Passion Domain for Sirrion. I guess I'll do that... I also need to update the domains for my cleric character. Passion Domain
Rage (Su): You have the ability to call forth a rage from deep within yourself. For a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level, you can act as if under the effects of the rage spell. The effect takes a swift action to activate. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. Crushing Despair (Su): You can emit a 30-foot aura of sadness for a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level. Enemies within this aura are affected by crushing despair unless they make a Will save with a DC equal to 10 + 1/2 your cleric level + your Wisdom modifier. The crushing despair effect ends immediately when the creature leaves the area or the aura expires. Creatures that succeed on their saving throw are immune to this aura for 24 hours. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. Passion Domain Spells
Background:
Brand spent much of his childhood among gypsies before his mother married a man in Solace that took him and his mother in. In his early teens his mother died from a wasting sickness that the local healer was unable to cure. Brand rebelled against his father outwardly blaming him for his mother's death, but inwardly blaming himself, wishing that there was something that he could have done. In all the historic tales he had been told of as a young child it was the stories of the ancient gods that gave him the most hope. However, when Brand watched his mother breathe her final breath he regarded the stories as nothing more than myths and children's stories rather than true history. Yet in his heart he continued to hope he was wrong. As a young man he made many friends. With his personable and outgoing nature he proved to be quick with a joke and his fists. He was never one to abide by bullying and would always defend an underdog, no matter what the cost. His natural talent with fighting and restless gypsy blood motivated Brand to join with various mercenary groups that travelled through the region. Five years ago he left his home and traveled across Abanasinia joining the militia forces of various petty warlords that squabbled with one another over land and money, fending small villages against goblins, various predators and border disputes with the nomadic tribes of the plains. During this time he grew spiritually as a man taking time to look at the suffering at the world around him and his place in it. As his final job ended near home he decided to take some time to meet back up with his old friends and share some stories and drinks with them before heading out again.
Party Role:
Brand would fill the Flint/Caramon (Protector) roles in the story. Even if he's selected to be a cleric of Sirrion then he could continue that role as well as the role of the Prophet if we have no other full clerics step forward. Although I think that "Josiah Carpenter" could fulfill the Prophet role as he seems more suited to taking the Goldmoon role. BTW Josiah, what god were you thinking your character would follow? Just curious. &:)
Sean C. Macdonald here... Here are the stats for Brand as a Cleric and as a Fighter. So which-ever is needed for the game I can use. Just let me know which one you think fits best (if at all, heh). Cleric:
Brand Vasari [CLERIC] Medium Humanoid (Human)
Movement: 30ft
STR 16 / DEX 13 / CON 14 / INT 10 / WIS 15 / CHA 14
Domains: Liberation, Travel
HP 14+2d8+2+4(con)
Fighter:
Brand Vasari [FIGHTER] Medium Humanoid (Human)
Movement: 20ft
STR 16 / DEX 17 / CON 14 / INT 10 / WIS 9 / CHA 13
HP 13+2d10+2+4(con)
BTW, if you pick the fighter I don't suppose I could ask for a DM re-roll of my hit points. &:) pretty sad rolls for a fighter.
So are we starting in Solace or at least the Abanasinia region? Should our characters be from there? Sirrion is the god of Fire and Alchemists, :) So maybe aardvark's gnome alchemist and I know one another to start with? I'll start on a background soon. |
