The interlopers caught her completely by surprise, shocking her for a moment and it was all that Asliath could do to plan out how she was going to get her quarterstaff from her horse. She hadn't thought to bring it down with her when she had dismounted, and knew in that moment that she had made a grievous and potentially fatal error. Panic gripped her and paralyzed her for a few precious seconds with fear...

Geryn Sellsword |

Something that he can't articulate, born from his years of experience as a caravan guard, warns Geryn of the impending attack. With a shout of warning, he draws his sword and charges forward, hoping that at least some of his allies will charge with him. Best to bring combat to the enemy, rather than let them take the lead.
As he approaches the lead goblin, Geryn turns his horse and takes a swipe at him, hoping to disarm the creature. He then yells, "Huma, attack!" and the horse lashes out with its hooves, trying to strike the warg.
Although I forgot to tweak the statblock to reflect this, can I assume that Huma is battle-trained? I'll be writing things to reflect this assumption.
Ride Check to guide with needs:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Move Action: From I8 to K8, then diagonally to M6
Standard Action: Disarm attempt on the goblin in N5/N6
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Geryn has Improved Disarm, so the opponent doesn't get an AoO
Ride check for Huma to attack (DC 10): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Huma: Attacks the Warg (note: Modifiers are assuming that the hoof attack is primary, due to Huma being combat trained. This gives him a +5 to the attack over what it currently shows in his stat sheet.)
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Damage Roll: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Hopefully everything here's kosher; I haven't dealt with mounted combat before, so let me know if anything needs tweaking.
Edit: Added "strike the warg" above.

Durom Stonehammer |

Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, Weird can see the one you posted on OOC map but not the other. hehe
"Geryn why did you put your guard down! By Reorx's hammer, let's build up a hunger!"
Durom moves next to Trap as he pulls out his Repeating crossbow and fires a shot at one of the crossbow wielders.

Brand Vasari |

Brand follows Geryn's lead, swearing something about filthy goblins ruining his party. He grabs his heavy flail in two hands and positions himself between his friends and the charging enemy. Bellowing over his shoulder he says, "I'll buy anyone an ale for every goblin ear they can give me and a plate of spiced potatoes for every wolf ear!" Turning to the enemy, "Come on you slimy bastards!"
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Brand will take both move actions to move to K5 placing himself between the goblins and the rest of the party. Holding his heavy flail waiting to attack.

Leaving the arrow stuck in his chest, Janos instantly leaps up and takes a defensive fighting stance in front of the ladies. "Lady Synran, are you injured badly, milady?!?!"
With a ceremonial gesture, Janos both removes his family's sword and offers a formal Knightly Salute. "Thou shalt fall and be smitten for this couwardly assualt, villians! For . . . Solomnia!!!"

![]() |

It seems difficult for me to keep with conversations as I am off about 12 hours from everyone else, so I am going to try to just add in <Prior> for things that are a little in the past, RP wise, if that's okay with everyone?
<Prior to Brand> With a look of pure embarassment, Janos flushes at the statement about the girl, "I didn't, . . . she was. . ., As I told you then, I swear, my intentions where completely honorable with Miss Shiahnna. She was not, "sweet" on me,", with an innocent look, "and I hadn't held anything against thee for it".

Rumal |

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15, I posted in the OOC, my init is 2 higher. I hadn't added my trait bonus when I rolled. Also, I can't seem to access either map from work, so I will just add what I can.
Rumal, wobbling towards his mule, is irritated to see wolf mounted goblins approach just as he was ready to go get some of Otik's ale. "Damn foul creeshures, yuwer roonin my night, I WANT MY ALE!" At this last he grabs one of the mysterious vials from his belt, sprinkles something into it and throws it at one of the goblins. His fit of rage piqued, the vial he throws smashes and bursts into flame when it hits the open air, creating a small ball of fire engulfing one of the riders.
Move if I'm not within 20' toward the nearest rider, if possible one without party members nearby. Bomb ranged touch on the goblin rider, to splash the mount 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22, damage 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 4) + 5 = 14 fire damage, and 7 splash. If party members are nearby, I can exclude up to 4 of them.

Rumal |

I can see the map now. Since I think they go before me, I shouldn't have to move to throw within 20'. If a rider is close to another wolf as well, that is my target (like the one in N4 is adjacent to his wolf, and the one beside him). If they move to close with me I 5' step back before I bomb.

Two crossbow bolts are launched from the crouching hobgoblins. One strays; the other finds it's mark striking Sir Janos in the shoulder. [spoiler=Janos's crunch]7 damage after the crit
The other hobgoblins and wolves reach their final positions as shown at the end of the round; any PC that reaches them may exchange melee blows.
Durom pulls the trigger, attempting to reach one of the firing hobgoblins, but misses.
Brand stands firm waiting for his foe to reach him.
Ruma lets fly a his arcane chemicals in an attempt to strike both wolves and riders. The ball of flame strikes home on one of the hobgoblins, rolling off of it's shield and into his face. Blobs of flame splatter the wolf beneath him.
Josiah's charge takes him along side of Geryn, and his swing lands on the shield-less hobgoblin leader.

Geryn Sellsword |

Geryn grunts in pain as the spear cuts through his armor and scratches him deeply on the side. He manages to stay in the saddle, though, and grunts as he feels Huma weakening beneath him. The horse manages to remain standing though, despite the ragged wound torn into its chest. "We need some backup here!" he yells as he desperately tries to disarm the goblin leader again, trying to maintain an active defense as he does so. Huma, whinnying in pain, lashes out against the warg once more, but cannot get an angle on it.

Gah, just remembered that you can't have two traits from the same category! Is it alright if I switch out Dirty Fighter for something else?
Also, note to self: Buy barding. And probably a new horse. Here's hoping that Huma lives a bit longer.
Oh, and a general note: If you use the Preview button, you can see how rolls are going to turn out and plan accordingly.

Alessa Synran |

Ride 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Move Action Needed to Mount
I'm guessing my mount is to the north, let me know if this is otherwise.
If this is so, I will attempt to charge the nearest unhurt NPC, probably that riding Dire Wolf 5. Power Attacking; she's mad.
I'm +12 to handle Summer, and it's a DC 10 free action, so I cannot fail. I use the Heel Trick to direct movement. Likewise I'm +8 to Ride, and direct with knees is DC5, so I autosucceed that, too.
Lance Attack 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Damage 3d8 + 18 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) + 18 = 30
I'll use ride-by attack to have Summer keep moving past at our current diagonal, no AoO from the target. Wolf gets one, though. I'll wheel around when I'm able to charge again, probably only move 30ft past.
"Summer, to me! We're going to be last again! There's no glory in watching"
She mounts up on Summer Storm and sets herself forward in a saddle, riding forth with skill gained in countless tourneys. A pennant flutters in the wind on her lance's deadly end, but its sight is lost as she lowers her lance to drive it through armor, and likely flesh.
She rides at the nearest wolf rider open for such an attack.

Asliath Argentleaf |

Asliath bolted like a rabbit rushing through tall grasses, headed for Hasana and her quarterstaff. Her horse was stepping away from danger, but Asliath reached her quickly and yanked her weapon off the horse's saddle and whirled around to face her foes, crouching low to present a smaller target to the vicious goblins.
I figured I didn't need to make any rolls to get to my horse so that I could grab my weapon.

Rumal |

Rumal moves forward, but ends up angling heavily to his right until he bumps into the vallenwood. Now stabilized by the tree he angrily grabs another of his vials, and shakes it vigorously before throwing it at the group of wolves and riders. Trying to overhand throw it while up against the tree causes his toss to fly further to the left than he had planned. Luckily, it still lands right in front of the two lead wolves, splashing up at them. However, it also splashes up at Josiah.

Yockmund 'Joey' Beck |

Standing to the side half-hiding behind a vallenwood Joey watches as his friends thunder off to attack the goblins, blinking into view a pair ofglowing white bolts streak out from his pointed finger, twirling around themselves before striking a worg squarely in the chest.

Sorry I should have posted earlier; I got bogged down with end of semester grades. I'm going to shift some stuff around (mainly just movements where the wolves would have beat your Pcs).
Trapdodger stabs the head hobgoblin, opening a gash on his side of his armor. His nimble hand plucks a string of what he originally thought were beads off of the hobgoblin's belt- only to find it's leather thong threaded through dried eyeballs.

Durom's shots fail to find their mark. No critical fails for a 1.
Asliath arms herself and turns to the battle.
Brand's wolf target comes to him; he strikes a telling blow that leaves the wolf injured and angry.
Sir Janos advances and defends the women, only to see Alessa charge past on her mount.
Ruma's next bomb splattered his targets. With the solo wolves moving out from behind the riders, I'll assume you'd target between two wolf riders to maximize your splash. If that's the case, you'd hit both wolves and one rider (I'll ignore the errant splash for the moment).
Also, your intended move was re-empted by a wolf, would you like another square?
Hobgoblin boss reflex 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Wolf 31d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Wolf 51d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Josiah slams his morningstar into the hobgoblin riders arm, weakening his hold on his shield. It's enough to throw him enough for Alessa's charge to strike true- her lance is driven through his chest. He slumps off the back of the wolf, unconscious and bleeding.
Tl;dr-One hobgoblin is dead. The boss only has a handaxe. Trap and Brand have attacks of opportunity to roll, Ruma needs a new move action, and Sir Janos gets a swing at the wolf #4. Brand and Durom are (I think) tripped, so prone for the start of the next round.

![]() |

For now I am simply trying to draw attacks away from others. I will be more aggresive in later rounds though. Because I am having trouble with the maps, I am trying to keep my movements a bit vague, and am perfectly fine allowing you to move me where you think my descriptions would indicate. :)

GM Trajan |

Round 3 Start Janos, could you see the first map as an image? The most recent few have been pdfs- so if you are able to install adobe reader you can see it: www.adobe.com. This recent one is back to the original tif format- and much smaller.
The following will take effect once Trap, Brand, & Ruma have resolved round 2, and Trap and Geryn have made their round 3 actions.
ROUND 3.
The hobgoblins are blooded but renew their attacks. The lead hobgoblin roars at the archers [b]Simpering dogs, ADVANCE![/d] as he urges his wolf to attack. Dire wolf 4 sees the human (Sir Janos) and bites
Dire wolf bite 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Dmg 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Geryn Sellsword |

Geryn grunts as the handaxe bites into his side. As the goblin leader swings for him again, Geryn twists his sword once more, trying to slam the flat of his blade into its wrist. Doing so leaves his legs unguarded, however, as the Warg tears into Geryn's unguarded leg, leaving him bleeding from another wound.
As the goblin withdraws, so does Geryn, Huma limping beneath him. Get to safety, use the bow... he things in a haze of pain.
Ow, between last round and this one, Geryn's not doing so well--down to 1 HP. Also, you forgot to do crit confirmation on the warg bite (not that I'm going to complain about that too much), boss.
At any rate, since Geryn's on the same initiative as the gobbos, I'm assuming he does this about the same time the leader is attacking him. If that won't work, then he'll just withdraw a ways and switch to his bow.
Ride Check to stay in saddle, DC5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Ride Check to guide with knees, DC5: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Standard action: Geryn makes another disarm attempt against the goblin leader with Combat Expertise.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Heh. I think it's safe to say that the goblin leader is unarmed right now.
Move Action: As the gobbo withdraws, Geryn does the same.
5' step from M6 to L6. If it won't give the goblin an AoO, then Geryn instead moves to J6, then I7, then H7.

Asliath Argentleaf |

I hope to survive this so that I can heal Geryn later, but I can't just wait around and let everyone else take the heat.
Having the Fleet feat and being lightly encumbered, I've got a Speed of 35, so I'm moving from G6 to G4, then diagonally to J1, and lastly, diagonally to K2 using up 30 of my 35 feet of movement and not provoking any Attacks of Opportunity. Now I'm flanking Dire Wolf #4 along with Alessa.
My attack with my staff is as follows: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
My damage roll on my staff attack is: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
(I really hope I got all of that right.)
Asliath, now armed and about as dangerous as she ever gets, runs across the clearing to come up behind one of the Dire Wolves attacking her friends, whipping her staff around in an overhand strike at the beast and bringing it down to smash against its hindquarters.

Yockmund 'Joey' Beck |

Hissing at the ugly wolf as it gets to close for comfort, Joey raises both hands up from the ground, as is he's pulling on sothing heavy, muttering words in the arcane language. The result of his posturing is evident as a thin sheet of slippery oil appears under the threatening wolf, making it's footing so much more harder to find.
Cast grease under wolf 1, DC 15.

Rumal |

Rumal, knees locked together being the only thing keeping him standing, grabs another bottle of his concoctions. He winds him arm overhead two or three times beofre letting it slip and fly at his target. It flies wobbly through the air. Fed up with throwing things, Rumal manages to draw his crossbow from its sling.

Brand Vasari |

Brand takes his attack of opportunity.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Brand doesn't have a mount unless you say he must have one. He walked from the last small village he was in. Abanasinia is not that big. Plenty of people travel by walking from town to town.

Durom Stonehammer |

"Of course no one wants to help to dwarf, damn fuzz ball I'm going to make you into a pair of boots!"Shouts with pain in his voice,
Durom takes a quick back step with a wince of pain and unleashes the fury of his crossbow on to dire wolf 1.
Takes a 5 foot step back to I9, and fires rapid shot with Deadly aim at the dire wolf 1.
Attack 1:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

It's not that, but I'm deployed, and internet speed, and very limited and random connectivity just makes it very difficult to download things. Even when I post, about half the time it doesn't work the first try, so I need to copy/paste almost everything or lose it.
On Initiative Count 13: After battering away the wolfs maw with a reflexive shield parry, Janos takes a moment to focus and reevaluate the situation. "There is no chaos, there is serenity. . .", he thinks like a personal mantra. Letting the Solomnic's military training, he allows the natural instinct and practiced battle-mind take hold. "Remember the basics. Make a Decision, . . . and Do It!"
Noticing that Geryn is not doing well after that last wound, "This is going poorly. We may need to concider a tacticle retreat. If so, I shall cover our exit".
Attack roll:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 <Charging>
Damage roll:1d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Odd, I started to edit my post and after that it comes after Durom's. . .

Brand Vasari |

Brand on Round 3
Assuming that the wolf he crushed with his flail is going down for good Brand turns around and heads to help Durom. "I'm coming my friend! You're not alone."
Spying the condition of Geryn as he rides by he adds "Don't you die on me again Geryn! I'm not playing nursemaid again to bring you back to life.
Brand swings his flail.

"You!" She points to the apparent leader, challenging him, "You're mine! You'll pay for what you did to Geryn!"
She stabs her lance foward, almost recklessly, but dispite the wildness of the stab, the blow is too fast, too powerful to avoid. She only catches him in the leg, but the force and will behind it still bring significant injury. The fire in her eyes burns brighter.
She wheels Summer Storm around.
"Summer! Show that oversized dog the quality of Synran horses!"
Summer Storm bites and stomps at the wolf that snapped at her, but the beast is too quick.
