I have received permission to aid you with your issue, it will likely take me some time, maybe a few hours, maybe a few days to get your device made, depending on how much work it will be to integrate, but from now I mostly need to get some readings off you, blood pressure, BMI, dimensions, Magnetic Reaonance if we can, the usual”

He looks giddy as he nods, running back to the library

I realized the weakness when I was brainstorming a way to get around him being able to access the arrows, I realized that one option would just be to convert your system to mine, but it was pointed out that this would be a much less drastic option as I don't yet have a mapping or warding system available!" He smiles and nods "that was a right good point so we all agreed that this was a much better option!"

”a student by the name of Aton disrupts the metaphysical energy flows within a small radius around himself , most intensely at skin level, this renders him incapable of being noticed by the wards and also from using the navigational system. I aim to fix this by developing a proxy device that could interact with the wards and navigation in his stead! To do this I need programming level access to the nanite system and supplementary notes on the warding system. By the way did you know your system as it stands is vulnerable to attacks by nanite based systems?

Arthur looks around at the papers and screens,interested in it before shaking his head to clear it "sorry, I was distracted. Anyway, I need higher security clearance for an important project "

Arthur quickly jogs off, excited to go on to the next step on the task! He leaves without checking to see if anyone would follow, expecting them to know what he's doing and either follow or stay as he ran off to the teacher's residence

He's looking for the head of security via the arrows and the little tablets most of the students have

I am amused by the back and forth walls of text with Arthur

He doesn't even seem to notice the paper thrown at him
"My first thought was indeed to just build a drone and use that to interface for you, but Hermes, my personal robot is incapable of summoning the arrows, and he gets around using an RFID tag on both myself and our room, so any drone I build for you would be incapable of doing likewise without a more direct access that my previous attempts caused the previously mentioned dead nanites, my working theory is that without a soul or will to exert that can be picked up by whatever divination enchantment the nanite security system acts as a carrier for, the system doesn't register them as anything other than an object.... I hadn't thought of just asking... huh..... "last time I tried to directly access the nanites here I ended up with a coating of dead nanites all over me, and while I could probably reactivate then, they'd be my nanites at that point and wouldn't have any more access than if I had built them myself in the first place... hmm, although, if I deaigned then to attempt to access the other nanites and took advantage of their self destruction defense protocols I could probably take down and then maybe take over the whole system! I hadn't thought of that before!"

Arthur turns to the two of them, finally stoping his pacing and monologue "your thoughts?"

Arthur nods and looks deeply in thought "right and given the shifting nature of the school you'd need a navigational device that would be continually updating.... hmm we could make some kind of radar type device to tell what hallways and staircases lead where.... but without some sort of beacon to each possible destination it wouldn't be able to distinguish many of the possible targets from one another. Most of the classrooms would have rather similar geometries and acoustics to radar. I mean you could tell places like the cafeteria that way and maybe the sim rooms but not say light blades from heavy blades"
he begins to pace slightly as he babbles on "next, we could manufacture a variety of RFID tags and place them in various places you are likely to go to, and combine that system with the radar method but you'd still be missing out in functionality with regards to finding someone as opposed to something and in not being able to find things we didn't think ahead in tagging, and we'd need to be sure to input some kind of system to check for damage to the tags, but you'd at least be able to get to your classes, infirmary and your room and the cafeteria and any of the exits to the school. "
he doesn't seem to like this method, finding it distasteful to only offer a partial solution so he moves on to a harder but one more interesting to build and test "But there are other options, my favorite would either be to find some way to get around your issue and have some device interface directly with whatever system the school already uses to produce it's arrows, I'm honestly not sure how I'd do that yet, or I could take a wack at fixing whatever the route cause of the problem is.... not sure how I'd do that either."

"I am extremely good at following instructions. It was a necessary part of my duties as an assassin," Djalos says flatly. "But I am not....I am unsure of the precise term. I currently possess free will. I am supposed to be practicing using it. I think. It's very confusing." At this point they have reached the library and Djalos steers the group through the stacks on a fairly circuitous route towards the section where they had been sorting out the rare documents for clues about Adon's problem.

Arthur glosses over the thoughts of "currently" having free will, the implications at once too obvious and disturbing as he walks into the library "how does one "practice" free will? Just go out and find something you like, hopefully something you're also good at, and then just do it."

Which is why there are advanced courses for the mechanics classes

Arthur looks back at the six tiny robots "here, if it makes you feel better, I'll tell them.... don't leave this room unless it's to protect my work." He looks back at Hermes "that make you feel better about leaving them for a couple of hours?"

Arthur was about to answer when his stomach inturupted him with a growl "Isn't the point of that extra programing you slapped on them to make them safe? Come on, I'm hungry"

I knew I forgot something in my last post.

"I simply added them to the front of its directives branch. The original coding should still be present, save for the circumstance in which it is programed to erase certain code after having it's code manipulated."

The small LED screen on Hermes mouth and eyes displays a smiley face with upturned eyes as his facial recognition software reads Arthur's grin. Arthur doesn't remember telling him to do that.

In his same monotone voice, conflicting slightly with the happy visage, he replies.

"Statistically speaking, it is of mostly the same components as meals I would provide, but with incorrect portion and nutrition ratios."

Arthur briefly wonders what prompted the LED display to change before he is inturupted by his stomach growling "Let's head to the cafeteria"

Arthur frowns "sometimes I think your safety protocols are two severe. With something as overriding as the three laws on it that could hide something in their original programing... I think i'll try the cafeteria today, see what it is everyone without their own personal butler eats" he grins at his robot friend

"ah... hmm, I do need to take apart one of them, figure out what I was doing. this one just volunteered!"

"let's try not to piss off the Dragons who rule this place. We've got enough big scaly egomaniacs pissed off at us. but yeah, local patent laws would be a good idea if we're going to be here a while" the small robot smacks Arthur's hand with a nearby screwdriver and Arthur removes his hand

Hermes steps towards one of the robots and sets an apple down in front of it, which it starts to peel with a few bladed legs.

"I accessed their code through a proxy program to test their purpose, in accordance with Product Testing protocols. This unit peels fruits excluding bananas, durians, and coconuts. The unit on the top left of the desk plays chess and won 7 out of 10 matches I played against it. It expresses no capacity to learn the play styles of repeated opponents and shows a tendency towards castling when other options would be more viable."

He discards the apple peelings, leaving the bare fruit for Arthur.

"I was unable to file patents, due to a block in communications, which I am unable to deduce the source of."

"the patent block is probably because of the whole magic thing around this planet keeping people from knowing where we are" He yawns before looking at one of the small, gear-with-arms-and-legs shaped robot and pokes it. it seems to glare up at him with it's one, centrally placed eye

Ok, couple questions before I start posting and stuff.

1. Today is the day we're doing Dave's party, right?

2. Did you want the hand sized robots to be something Hermes made, or is it actually Arthur who made them without his knowledge? Or are they just there?

3. What happened to the dragon people side plot? The one Mike and Drake are for.

Sorry, comp has been going crazy past couple days, Arthur made them, though as he was clearly somehow building in his sleep, you could have Hermes assist and he wouldn't stop you

Arthur spent the evening quietly enjoying the presence of his friend under the watchful robotic eye of his robot butler.

When he gets back to his room he has trouble sleeping and finds himself awake early morning at a work bench with mechanical parts and a couple small semiautonomous robots the size of one's hand strewn about "uh... did I do this?"

Arthur nods looking at her "couldn't agree more

Arthur lifts into the air with her in his arms. He nods for Hermes to follow them at a respectable distance.

The mention of Kai instantly turns the smug grin on Arthur's face into a grimace"I'm sorry" he says as he holds out his arms for her to be carried

Arthur smiles and shakes his head "it's fine, I can make you another, maybe we can even improve on the design! And until then you are welcome in my arms"

Arthur grins "if you haven't noticed, I can fly, if the armor I gave you still works and you had it on you you'd also be able to fly, but in the meantime I could carry you"
