And it worked. So you can at least know that it will be worth the sacrifice. Of course, technically the future is still fluid and that one is just one of many possibilities. But the probabilities are closing up pretty fast. That one's still the most likely."
"Fair enough. And I have your permission to place Talysmyn in the past after she's born?"
He nodded.
"For what it's worth, I am sorry. And Ursiel? You aren't going to be able to continue locking away your memories of what you really are. I know it's served you well so far. But with Saluriel playing for the other team now, it's making you way too vulnerable."

"Okay." She stood up. "If you ever need to talk, I'm willing to listen. Just send for me whenever. The benefits of time travel, you never have to worry about double booking yourself."
And then she was gone, and he was alone on the rooftop with the pigeons and a whole lot of knowledge he wished he didn't have.

Well, he is right. I guess I am a little distracted. I am used to see Ignace every morning for breakfast. But we haven't really been seeing each other for some time, I guess I kind of miss her.

Arthur spent the evening quietly enjoying the presence of his friend under the watchful robotic eye of his robot butler.
When he gets back to his room he has trouble sleeping and finds himself awake early morning at a work bench with mechanical parts and a couple small semiautonomous robots the size of one's hand strewn about "uh... did I do this?"
"Yes, sir. It is possible you may feel fatigue and slight confusion, symptoms of Sleep Walking. This is a new behavior for you, and may be hazardous to your health if continued. I was unable to prevent your sleep movements due to your having coded rule 37 in my prime functions: HRMS-XI is not to wake Arthur Barren or any designated parties or by inaction allow said parties to be woken, unless A) The Awakening is due to an alarm set by Arthur Barren or as an indication of emergency. B) Arthur Barren has instructed HRMS-XI to awaken Arthur Barren under specified circumstances. Or C) Arthur Barren stands to be critically injured as a result of being asleep."
Hermes steps towards one of the robots and sets an apple down in front of it, which it starts to peel with a few bladed legs.
"I accessed their code through a proxy program to test their purpose, in accordance with Product Testing protocols. This unit peels fruits excluding bananas, durians, and coconuts. The unit on the top left of the desk plays chess and won 7 out of 10 matches I played against it. It expresses no capacity to learn the play styles of repeated opponents and shows a tendency towards castling when other options would be more viable."
He discards the apple peelings, leaving the bare fruit for Arthur.
"I was unable to file patents, due to a block in communications, which I am unable to deduce the source of."

Dave slept more contently than he had in quite some time, given the exhaustion of the previous day and the pleasant flirtation with Andromeda and Tybalt. He streatches and looks over to Tybalt on the other bed and smiles before he removes his shirt and gets started on his early morning workout
A little while into his work out, the cat stirs in his pile of cushions and stuffed things, sitting up and yawning before stretching in the incredibly satisfying looking way that only a cat can. He blinks a little bit and slips on a couple of his enchanted jewelry pieces, the ring with the tiny treasure chest, and a small chain made of glass around his wrist.
"G'morning, Shiny." He blinks a little more as if adjusting to a change in his vision and smiles happily.

"If I recall correctly, you are, as of today."
He gestures through his outfits with mage hand, picking out a short sleeve hooded shirt with shades of blue and teal fractal patterns. It's just the right shade to hit with his eye color and accentuate them. He also pulls on a pair of black harem style pants, and no shoes as usual.
At this point he was accustomed to Dave's morning work out, and he hadn't figured out yet for which of their benefit Dave did it shirtless in, but he manages not to stare too much.
"So, birthday boy, what do you want to wear today? Just name it." He puts his hands on his hips and looks down at the excercising Aasimar with the side long smile he gets when he plans to use the skills he's so proud of.

It is likely that I am solely incapable of interrupting or circumventing magic of this scale to reattempt to file the parents, though I may try if you would like, Sir. If this planet is entirely concealed from outside interference, perhaps it may be worthwhile to investigate local intellectual property laws and file patents with the government of this planet as opposed to the Dragon Empire."
He seems not to notice the apparent distaste of the fruit robot and Arthur's inspection.

When the chess bot smacks Arthur, Hermes immediately has an electrified blade drawn against it, humming softly.

Hermes pins it to the table with one hand while the tip of one of his fingers pops open and accesses the robot's code via a programming port. There's a small beep and he retracts the access and lets the bot go.
"I have added the three laws to its primary directives. It is now forbidden to attempt harm. You may work with it at your leisure."
He stands back up straight and sheathes the blade somewhere in his forearm.
"Would you like me to bring your breakfast, Sir, or would you prefer to go to the cafeteria?"

Arthur frowns "sometimes I think your safety protocols are two severe. With something as overriding as the three laws on it that could hide something in their original programing... I think i'll try the cafeteria today, see what it is everyone without their own personal butler eats" he grins at his robot friend

Tybalt Baneko |

A little of the cat's enthusiam trails off as Dave doesn't seem outwardly happy about his own birthday.
"Is everything ok? I thought you would be more excited... I mean, I can still make you something if you want, but I don't have to. I just wanna make today special for you."
His tail flicks a little bit as he glances to his fabric swatches, obviously starting to consider what he may have done wrong. But, he's not entirely unprone to misreading emotions.

I knew I forgot something in my last post.
"I simply added them to the front of its directives branch. The original coding should still be present, save for the circumstance in which it is programed to erase certain code after having it's code manipulated."
The small LED screen on Hermes mouth and eyes displays a smiley face with upturned eyes as his facial recognition software reads Arthur's grin. Arthur doesn't remember telling him to do that.
In his same monotone voice, conflicting slightly with the happy visage, he replies.
"Statistically speaking, it is of mostly the same components as meals I would provide, but with incorrect portion and nutrition ratios."

Kitty Tanaka |

"Ohaiyogozaimasu!" she said cheerfully bursting into the room. "What are you two doing still in bed?"
Kitty groaned. "It's called cuddling, Nee-chan. It's something that you do when you're in a relationship for more than ten minutes," she teased sleepily.
"Pssht," Nanami said, with a dismissive shake of her head. "Why would I want to spoil a perfectly good thing with conversation...or worse....feelings. "
At this point Miu decided to pounce on the intruder, attempting to sink her tiny fangs into Nanami's leg, which was foiled when Nanami suddenly poofed across the room, leaving a tiny trail of smoke for Miu to bite. "Is that a tiger? Oh, you have to bring it! You just have to! You know how much Obaa-sama likes cute things!"
"Nee-chan, I assume you're here as the advance warning system, but you need to leave so we can get dressed," Kitty said as patiently as possible given that it had been a rough night getting Saffire and Miu to adjust to their new living arrangements as she was very short on sleep.
"Fine," Nanami said with a sigh. "Spoilsport. I'll be waiting outside." She poofed away again, this time outside the room and Kitty reluctantly got up, giving Michael a shake to make sure he didn't drop back to sleep. "Come on, it'll be Anthony-kun bursting in on us next. You know that's true. It'll be better if you at least haver pants on before that happens."

Tybalt Baneko |

"What? Oh no I'm excited, just been busy and I forget when it was"
The cat's smile returns as he starts pulling swatches to run through his fabric machine, flipping through them and holding them up towards Dave with one eye closed.
"Good! I can't wait. Feels like I've been working on this for like three years."
He settles on a pattern and starts to pull fabric out of the odd pasta press looking machine he has, thumbing through a notebook with mage hand before suddenly stopping and tossing the book away.
"I just remembered that I remember your measurements. And design patterns. And math stuff. I'm so used to not remembering anything that I forgot that remember stuff now..." He trails off as he realizes how weird that sounds. "I'm still getting used to the lace thingy..."
He shakes his head and starts cutting a pattern from Royal Blue and Black fabrics, both very high quality.
"So, I need time to set up for the party tonight, but I think I can start on that right after lunch. What do you wanna do today? Just name anything."
He smiles and looks back from his work desk, once again excited about the day.

"Probobly." igni doesn't look away from his book, chomping down the last of his toast.

Asha Soleil |

Asha wandered into the cafeteria, still sleepy. She had stayed up too late the night before. And not for any fun reason. She was lonely since Rena left. And when she felt lonely she tended to drift back into her old habits from her tower days of sleeping only in short bursts at odd times. It wasn't good for her to be by herself. She knew that. But so far she hadn't been given a replacement roommate.
She got a tray and put a lot of food on it. She needed so much energy to power her abilities. She stumbled a little bit under the wait and bumped into a pair of boys talking at one of the tables. She started to apologize when she saw who it was. Igni saw a look of fear and revulsion on the girl's face for just a moment before she literally fell through the floor, leaving her breakfast tray behind to spray food and drink all over Igni and Lucas.

"Uh. Bye."and he snaps his fingers, the food on him catches fire and burns to ashes, the drink burns up in bursts, and igni turns back to his book, mostly unphased.

Sorchan del Sol |

Sorchan looked at the three girls sitting at the kitchen table. Raelle had been released from the infirmary just a few minutes ago after a mental scan from Healer Zamarosok last night had confirmed that she was not suffering any long-term effects of the botched ritual. Ignace looked very prim, as she always did when she was stressed. And Chara was slightly less bouncy than usual. They could tell that there was something wrong. He handed out plates of burnt pancakes with kerosene and waited while they ate.
"Dad, you're just making it harder," Fieri scolded from the doorway as she arrived and saw all the long faces. "Don't keep us in suspense. How bad did it get?"
He sighed. Aside from Ignace, the entire family was overly direct. What else could he expect? "We found a dozen or so others among their servants who had been put through the ritual. I was worried that there would be others hidden among the other Houses, but I found a record of every trial and success they had among their papers. They hadn't yet got around to selling their subjects as slaves. Raelle would have been the first. Thank the gods that didn't happen," he added with a shudder.
"Amen to that," Raelle said, making a face.
"Anyhow, the bad parts are the list of failed attempts. The ones who died. One of the first ones was Charles Charbonnier."
"Wait," Raelle said, frowning. "Like, our Uncle Charles. The one who went missing before I was born? The one that Chara is named after?"
Sorchan sighed. "Yes. They've been at this for a very, very long time. And all this time I never noticed, never suspected," he pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to stay focused. "They probably picked Charles as a form of revenge because of my relationship with your mother. They never approved. Understandably your mother is taking this pretty hard. After all this time, it was hard to hope, but with so many exiles showing up, she hoped that....but that's not going to happen now. Charles is dead. They destroyed his mind and spirit and then disposed of his body." He stopped, unable to continue. Unable to face the blank, horrified looks of his children.
Fieri stepped up behind him and hugged him. "It's a hard thing," she said softly. "When someone you cared about turns out to be a monster. When others are happy to see them torn apart. Even when you can't help but reject the things they did, you also can't help but remember who you thought they were before you knew the truth. You told me once before that we're defined by our own choices, not by our families. You aren't a monster, just because they are. I know you're blaming yourself for not seeing it sooner, but they were really good at lying."
Chara climbed off her chair and hugged him gently around the knee. "Is Mommy okay, Daddy?" she asked, worried.
"Yeah," he said hoarsely. "Mommy's okay. But she's very sad. She cried a lot and now she's tired. Let's let her rest a while longer, okay?"
Chara nodded.

"Did she just...fall through the floor?... by accident?

Igni Phoebus |

igni is right back to not looking away from his book.
"Seems like it."
he assumes the problem, whatever is is, is known and able to be dealt with by the staff.
"If you're worried, maybe tell a teacher. They Probobly already have something in place."

Djalos Tyon |

Djalos shakes Adon awake. "We need to get to work," he says shortly, before diving into the pile of books once again.

Asha Soleil |

Asha bounced off of the field that kept her from falling through the bottom of the basement and solidified again on the basement floor. She lay there for a moment getting her breath back and trying to determine where she was.

Meanwhile, in the firebird encampment....
"I don't like it, Sister," the taller hooded figure said to the slightly less tall hooded figure. "We promised we wouldn't interfere. It's good for them to learn to solve their own problems."
"That was before they made a complete muck of everything, Brother," the slightly less tall hooded figure said, glaring at the large cages in the middle of the center of camp. "It's time for the Elders to stop sitting on our hands and take charge. While there's still something left to take charge of. These youngsters don't know how to handle freedom. Unlike us, they don't remember ever living anywhere else but that ridiculously garish piece of flying rock."
"Hey, Father chose those decorations himself," the taller hooded figure objected.
"Yes, and Mother always said he had terrible taste in decorating. I agree. All those flourishes and decorative bits gave them completely the wrong idea of what the purpose of the place really was."
"Well, I liked them, Sister, and there's nothing you can say to make me change my mind."
"Oh really? If I weren't going to be busy this afternoon saving an entire civilization, I would definitely take you up on that challenge."
The taller hooded figure shuddered.

Adon Derro |

Djalos shakes Adon awake. "We need to get to work," he says shortly, before diving into the pile of books once again.
Aron half opens his eyes.
"I.. Wha? What a-"then his eyes rather suddenly fly open, his skin turns even paler then usual, he scrambles to his feet, and plows out of the library with a parting of "havetogoeatnowbye!" adon is downright sprinting to the lunchroom, skidding to a halt when he gets there. He gets in line, and fidgets the whole way up to the food, gets a huge amount of it, and goes to sit down, devouring it all in moments. His skin gets a little less pale in a hurry, he takes a few breaths, and stands to get up for seconds.

after a brief pause, he's not that bad. A little weird at times, but overall, he's ok.
As they watch, Lang's form improves greatly.
She blinks in surprise. "Er...thank you," she said, taking the briquette. She broke off a few crumbs to feed to her pet before taking a bite herself.
"It's just....everything is so very different here. None of the rules are the same. There are all kinds of strange people. I miss my Mama. And I'm trying really, really hard to be good. But it's hard to know what that means here. I don't know yet if Lang is bad or good, but we come from very different places and I think don't always have the same idea about what those mean. Does that make sense?"
Sun smiles at the young firebird girl. It actually makes more sense than you think, at least to me. And as far as being "good" you are doing just fine. You have a much nicer heart than you probably realize.
Looking to Lang as he finishes, Lang sees that as well, thats why he is trying to be your friend. besides you two may have more in common than you think.

Fei, of the Sun Soul |

After the bout of activity on the landing pad, Fei decides to wander the streets of Kuros. Given that his new duties would keep him in close proximity to the town, it seemed sensible to familiarize himself with its layout.
After a couple of hours of all but patrolling the town, the young monk then returns to Avalon's Infirmary to make sure all has gone smoothly there. He lingers for a while after finding out about Phaezeriel, sitting in on the vigil over his currently dormant form and silently offering up prayers that his friend will be well.
As dawn approaches, he excuses himself and heads out to the green for his (once again solitary) morning katas. Afterward, he makes his way past the throngs of hungry students in the Cafeteria and down to the training room in the sub-basement. While passing one of the many rooms in the basement level, his ears catch the sound of something either falling or being knocked over.
Fei touches the door panel, opening the portal and turning on the lights...and revealing a student laying on the floor of one of the unused meeting rooms.
"Good...morning. Are you...alright?" the young monk intones to Asha with a quick bow as he tries to visually ascertain whether or not she is injured.

igni is right back to not looking away from his book.
"Seems like it."
he assumes the problem, whatever is is, is known and able to be dealt with by the staff.
"If you're worried, maybe tell a teacher. They Probobly already have something in place."
He frowns and strokes his chin. "I just might do that, but first I want to know something from you. What were you doing yesterday"

"Hmm." she said, noncommittally. "Well, I guess we'll see. But I'm willing to at least try to be friends."
"At least he's doing better at his practice now," she said, changing the subject. She wasn't very comfortable with emotional discussions.

Asha sat up. "Oh, hey, thanks," she said brightly. "I must have forgot my flashlight this morning because it's not in my pockets and these pockets are specially designed to hang onto stuff when I go all incorporeal. I fell through the floor again. Huh, I don't recognize this room. I must have bounced further than I thought after I hit the bottom," she said, looking around as she stood up. "I'm okay now," she said with a smile. "I just saw someone I really didn't want to see and got scared and then whoosh, right through the floor. And then, whoops," she said again, as she wobbled and nearly fell over. "And apparently that's a bad thing before I've even had breakfast. So hungry now. But I should be able to stay solid now no matter what. Cause it takes a lot of energy to fall through stuff."

Sadie, cleaner now, and in a fresh set of clothes, blearily enters the cafeteria in search of coffee. She sees Adon and waves, but doesn't pause on her beeline for the caffeine. Once she has an extra large coffee mug, she heads towards the line with the food, meeting Adon on his way for seconds. "Hey, you're up. I thought you'd still be sleeping. You know, since you haven't in a while. I had to leave the library for a bit to take care of basic bodily necessities like coffee. Djalos was all like I can ignore my bodily processes. Sometimes I think that kid needs to be reminded he's not a machine. Anyhow, how are you feeling?" She yawned as she filled her plate with toast and bacon.

Djalos appears to pay no heed to Adon's sudden departure, continuing to pore through the books. He pauses for a moment. It is difficult to cross-reference using the current unorganized data set. An optimal use of my time would be to categorize the information for easy retrieval. The elf thus begins rapidly sorting the books, based on author, content, date of publication, insanity of author, potential of trauma for the reader, chance that the contents of the book is a delusion of the author's, and alphabet letter.
