"How is a screen that duplicates something the school already does a security risk?"

male human gestalt fighter 15/duelist 9, rouge 5, monk 1

"And through what method would it "interface"?"

adon is quietly looking at a book. He blinks a few times, each one slower then the last, then closes his eyes.

skip if you want:

"So, what do you think, Vantablack? You've stayed quiet." the abyss shuffled back and forth, the fabric around it wavering, warping.
"You're too rushed. You're blinded by your eagerness, your desire to push the boy's desire. It's far from time."
the black figure with the crooked smile reels a bit, before the abyss lightly shoves it.
"you should have expected that answer. It's not that we don't care, it's that we have more patience then you ever will."
the abyss shivers and wavers, concealing into a smaller, compact form, little larger then a human head.
"do the rest of you share this sentiment?"
the crooked smile becomes less pronounced, turning it's head to look at the the bleach white orb of infinate maws, folding it's infinite self over it's own finite flesh, every fold producing a harsh note, each note a syllable, and the folds become a song.
"Y-y-y-y-you wo-o--o-ould be wiz-z-z-e to lis.s.s..s.sten. Pre.e-.e-mature hostility c-c-ould..."
"fine."
The dark figure cuts it off, only for the point to cut in, expanding and stretching but never getting any closer to anything.
" ;/---;()$&----)(/@?/.:\•—–¿¡`aa¡/-`)$£ ."
"shut up. Just... Shut up. Speak in mortal or not at all."
The jagged smile groans, it's smile as clost to gone as it can be.
"fine then. If I have to, I'll do it myself.
the abyss pipes up once more.
"Is it in his interests? Is it really, destruction?"

adon reels back a bit, as if jerking awake from a dream.

He doesn't even seem to notice the paper thrown at him

"My first thought was indeed to just build a drone and use that to interface for you, but Hermes, my personal robot is incapable of summoning the arrows, and he gets around using an RFID tag on both myself and our room, so any drone I build for you would be incapable of doing likewise without a more direct access that my previous attempts caused the previously mentioned dead nanites, my working theory is that without a soul or will to exert that can be picked up by whatever divination enchantment the nanite security system acts as a carrier for, the system doesn't register them as anything other than an object.... I hadn't thought of just asking... huh..... I guess I could ask the head of security for access, the device itself could take any one of dozens of options from a spinal tap implant to a little flying saucer with arms and voice recognition, which is plenary easy to make, it just needs a rudimentary AI, to a fancy gauntlet, it's just that I'd need access to the school if we went with this method."
"Well, you could ask? I mean, this kind of thing shouldn't be too hard to get permission for, right? If you had security permissions wouldn't that work around the problem? Or am I missing something? Either that or we'd need some kind of....familiar....or pet....or something like that. A living creature could access the arrows so long as it stayed out of the range of Adon's anti magic and could feed the info back to him, right? Like it would see for him."

"I... Honestly don't know much about the security system and interacting with it. Can't hurt to ask, though. Even if it doesn't work, it's not a big deal... Yeah. Yeah, thank you."

male human gestalt fighter 15/duelist 9, rouge 5, monk 1

adon chucks a wadded up peice of paper at Arthur's forehead.
"I'm enough of a threat on my own, thank you. I don't need you tearing down the school on my behalf."
for just a moment, adon's voice had an echo, of sorts.
"You seem to be complicating the issue. All I need is directions from the wall, and I can't touch or directly communicate with it. I simply need a proxy between me and the wall. So, it should be a relatively simple matter to set up a machine that can interact with the school and get directions at a distance from me, where my interference makes things difficult, and send it back. It's... Just radio waves. The hardest part would be gauging my intent, as I don't know a way to make something recognize speech without Magic. With something that would allow me to simply ask a question of a remote device that could recive instructions from the school, it would be somewhat simple. To solve the problem of it's distance from my location changing input location for the school to give direction, all you would have to is provide a way to spoof locations. If you're talking on the scale of Nanites, a single nanite on each hallway wall would be able to issue the request to the school."

adon stops, a moment, and pats the wall.
"Or, perhaps, take the simpler option.
you could simply ask the school for input on my behalf via proxy. After all, it makes decisions on it's own constantly. It should be able to recognize a request for information, feed that information to a simple machine that records the response and sends it to me. All that would be needed would be a way for my request to be heard by the school outside the area of my interference, and the information it gives me in turn to be returned to me."

adon's expression is flat and kind of aloof. His eyes widen, a bit, after a moment, the static somehow seeming... Deeper, as he does.

ur!a rljubf,:

do remember, this man is here to aid you. This behavior will likely result in you not getting what you desire. I reccomend you adjust.

"... Ah, but perhaps you already thought of that, and have a reason it won't work?" he says, aloofness seemingly vanishing. "I mean, my major skill lies in magical analysis, not engeneering. Perhaps I'm missing something."

male human gestalt fighter 15/duelist 9, rouge 5, monk 1

adon glances up from a book.

"ah, I um, need a map of the school. I disrupt magic around the school with my presence, so the arrows don't work properly."

"Like I said, there's nothing wrong with fighting. I just think it's important to do it for reasons that you can live with, that won't make you and the people you care about unhappy. As best you can. We all mess up sometimes. It's okay to be happy when you're doing something you're good at. It's okay to be happy about other things too. I think maybe you just need more practice at being happy," she said with a grin.

adon chuckles a little at that. "maybe you're right."

adon takes the mirror, and holds it near his hands. His fingers reflect as static wreathed claws, consuming his fingers wholly in the reflection.
"Whoa. That must make brushing your teeth kinda surreal," she said as she looked at the reflection over his shoulder.

he sorta bears his teeth, and holds the mirror near them. The're razor sharp in the reflection, and the same static as the claws are made of. Then he holds it a bit farther away, pointing behind him, showing some rather indistinct and blobby static wings.

"It's an utter mess. I really hope I never end up looking as feral as mirrors seem to think I'll be."
"Weeeeel, maybe it's like lycans? I mean they can look pretty feral in their animal form. Plenty of sharp teeth and so on there too. But they also have a normal looking form. That wouldn't be so bad. And, uh, I'll be sure to let you know if you have any food stuck in your teeth. Since mirrors are apparently not going to help with that anymore."

"... Hmm. Maybe."

Perhaps we should split up to find some of the technological geniuses this school no doubt provides a home to. Once we know who we're looking for, Djalos, then you can go and talk to them. That will be more efficient than wandering I think. And in the meantime we can keep going through these books and scrolls to see if we can't find any more clues. I mean, if the being isn't actually trying to hurt Adon, it may be more about finding a way to let him function with it. Don't forget that these texts have a bias. adon eventuslly starts making his way back into the library toward the group. The arrows flicker and falter as he tries to find his way, and he ends up lost. Eventually he sees his room, and slips into it for a moment, hunting for gloves. Perhaps that would help, so that his antimagic didn't have to touch the walls when he was touching them for direction. He wanders in, and his room looks diffrerent, to say the least. The room had melted into a horrible almagam of envorment to try and provide a "correct" environment for adon's "race", and failed horribly. Adon's eye twitched, and he once again silently thanked the fact that he didn't have tear ducts ever since the static ate his eyes. After all, can't be crying in front of friends. He starts rummaging about, but wherever he touched in his room destabilized more, until the room was a shifting mess of static with occasional flickers of envorment sheer and there. Eventually, he manages to find a closet, and takes out cloth, binds up his arms and hands, and takes a moment to try and regain his composure, looking around the writhing room.
"... And this is what they want me to call home. I guess I don't really get much of a choice. Sooner or later..."
adon shakes his head, steps out of his room, and walks away, touching the wall again, the arrows more stable this time. And as he walks away, unbeknown to him, the door itself flickers and fades, as if his room was never there in the first place.

"Well....he used to be a typical seven year old. Running around, getting into trouble, playing with his friends. And then his powers happened. He used them to stop his friend from getting run over by a cart. He can control metal. Well, it's like some kind of extreme magnetism. But just because he used his powers for good doesn't mean that the townspeople cared," she said bitterly. "It was bad enough when they ran me out of town, but with Dara...they were going to kill him, Adon. For something he couldn't help. And when Mom and Dad protected him....they killed them. And Dara saw it. People that he'd known and trusted and they killed our parents right in front of him. Somehow he got away. Someone must have helped him. He got away and he made it here by some miracle. But now....he doesn't talk anymore. Hasn't said a word in months. He's terrified of people. It's hard for him to trust anyone. He has trouble making friends, or even just sitting in a classroom. He tends to make a sort of walking fortress around himself out of any bits of metal he can find. There was someone who was teaching him how to use these special gloves to talk. It's a sort of sign language and the gloves can translate it to text that they display in the air. But that guy just sort of disappeared. Stopped coming to lessons. I don't know exactly what happened. But I know that Dara isn't really making much progress lately. And I don't really know what to do for him. I'm trying, but...I'm hurt and angry too and it isn't really helping."

"Okay, okay," Sadie said, frowning, hand on her temples. "We need to stop and think this through. If this Emm is the static-y one, then that can't be what Adon summoned. That being was bound to him by his parents when he was a child. Whether it's Emm or something else, he's being punished for his parents' bad decisions in that case. Which doesn't necessarily mean that what Adon summoned isn't this creature, but he's bound to two separate entities in this case, so we need to keep that in mind. Second, I may not be a scholar of the fey, but I've been reading these books too, and the fey and the Others are not the same thing. They're totally opposed to each other. Seriously, you should have seen how Nala reacted. Doesn't mean the Others aren't also sneaky bastards. Just that it's important I think to keep the sides straight," she said calmly.

And then she turned to Adon and smacked him. "What the hell were you thinking?! You could have died?!!!"

adon flinches as the slap, his movement accompanied with flashing imagines of static wreathed claws, wings, quills, and talons superimposed over his fingers, back, hair, and feet respectively. He exhales sharply, and the flickering stops.

"Did you want an answer, or did you just want to slap me?"
adon doesn't give Sadie time to answer.
"It was a possibility. But not a likely one. First, the dining itself woudl've had to fall through, and that wasn't likely, Becuase sir allone and I have rather similar mindsets. Secondly, if it did fail, I could've easily staggered the small distance back into the wards, and been teleported to the infermary. They have extremely useful non-magical treatments. Thirdly, even if I had died, my non-bolstered resistances woudl've been relatively easy to bypass by any teacher willing to resurrect me. And if no teacher was willing, it's obvious I never really had much of a place here."
adon sighs.
"I do my best not to jump into anything without a plan."

"The magic in question is called binding."

Adon sighs. His eyes seem unduly focused on dajalos.
"A method of binding a spirit to yourself for power, at the cost of concessions to the spirit in question. I didn't directly do magic, I called a being to me who could. I told him not to mention it, due to... The rather desturbing way the spirit in question is summoned. His name is sir alonne, and as long as I'm bound to him, I cannot deny a challange, nor can I attack any opponent who has surrenders. In exchange, he gives me acess to blood magic and fortifies my magic even further, along with allowing me to use alonne's seal."
