Male Human Technician 1

except we don't get a holiday to do it with (well we did on Oct 8th)

today and tomorrow and Monday are all regular work days here

Male Human Technician 1

Turkey day came and went for me about a month and a half ago.

As to my gaming history...

I started playing chess, then Avalon Hill's Tactics 2, then Starfire, before getting the basic D&D boxed set in 1983, graduating to the expert set and then 1st edition AD&D and tracked it up to 4th edition and Pathfinder. I've played various other systems: Role Master, White Wolf World of Darkness, GURPS, FASA's Star Trek and Doctor Who, West End Games Star Wars, Paranoia and Chill, Star Frontiers, d20 Star Wars Saga Edition, Legend of the Five Rings, Battletech/Mechwarrior, Shadowrun, Traveller (new and old), the gamut of Palladium systems (Mechanoids, Recon, Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, TMNT, Ninjas & Superspies and Palladium Fantasy), Marvel SuperHeroes, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer Fantasy RPG, Gamma World, Boot Hill, Twilight 2000, Decipher Star Trek, In Nomine and Middle Earth.

in a day or so? but you appear to value frequent posts as well

clarification please

Apparently, not everyone is aware that your games are not only great, but that they also have good reason in their foundation.

I'm submitting a dwarf rogue, he's lazy and pays loose homage to Droskar. He avoids real work where possible, but adventuring in old ruins to find gobs of treasure and antiquities lying around to turn around and sell for great profit - well that's the ticket laddie - ka-ching!

I work in front of a computer during the week and can easily get 4-8 posts per day in. Weekends I'm often busy so perhaps 1-3 per day then.
I'm located in the Pacific Time Zone, but work to serve the Eastern Time Zone.

Backstory, Part II:
The High Priest was troubled. He thought it odd that a vampire would trouble himself with the goings on of an 11 year old. Who wouldn't?
Initially, he decided to wait to see if the fiend would leave it alone.
Unfortunately, the challenge posed by attempting to harangue me while I resided inside a sanctuary of Pharasma seemed to excite the fiend.
He would find me in the town if I was out past nightfall so the priests made certain I was in before then.
He would also come to my window or worse, sometimes he'd send what used to be my mother instead. This went on until I was 12.
The High Priest found that it wasn't good for me to live in such a situation, plus he thought it wasn't good to have vampires hanging out at a gothic cathedral...
Yeah, I know, right?
but anyways, under the cover of daylight, yeah, who says the cover of daylight? the High Priest sent me out of Ardagh to a camp on the fringe of Shudderwood about 20 miles north of Morcei.
I stayed with the camp and learned their ways, how to live off the land, how to approach wildlife and when to avoid them.
Life was good for two and a half years, but he found me. The fiend tracked me down and was he angry.
He caught me and Emilia after dark while we were...
well you know what 15 year olds do when alone in the forest after dark
one sec... I need a moment... a tear trickles down Odnik's cheek and he dabs it away
The fiend tossed me aside and he rended her limb from limb in front of my very eyes.
He tossed me around the woods and dragged me back to the camp, depositing me there, he stole off into the night.
The leader of the camp uprouted the camp at first light and he scattered everyone to the four corners of Avistan.
I was brought with one group to Lepidstadt. There I was entrusted to the care of Professor Lorrimorr who taught at the university.
He took great interest in my story and he listened politely as I recounted my sad tale.
He told me that he often encountered the undead in his pursuits and he counseled me on the various types and their various weaknesses.
I stayed with him for a month or so and then he left me in the temporary care of Doctor Crowl, as he had a mission to undertake away from Lepidstadt.
Doctor Crowl let me come and go as I pleased and I spent much of my days perusing the university and visiting the Church of Pharasma.
I spent my days studying ways to defeat the fiend because I knew he would one day show his face again.
I worked at menial jobs requiring heavy lifting to improve my strength, fortunately, my father was naturally strong so it naturally came to me too.
There was no way I'd let the fiend toss me around when next we met.
I spent a little over a year in Lepidstadt, when I received word that Professor Lorrimorr had suffered an unfortunate accident and not survived it.
Stranger still was the fact that he requested that I attend his funeral and the reading of his will.
We had occasionally kept in contact over the year, but it was mostly more tips against the dead.
I'm not really sure why I'm going, but I'm leaving for Ravengro tomorrow.
So have a drink with me for it may be my last and pray to Pharasma that the dead don't stalk you.

Backstory, Part I:
My friend, have you ever been stalked by the undead?
No?
I have, a few times in fact and it's not a thing to be taken lightly.
I see by your eyes that you find my tale unlikely.
You wonder how could a boy thats barely a man have already experienced such horrors.
I know your doubts, but it's true. This land is cursed. The Tyrant's hold on it is diminished, but His power persists.

Now listen, friend and I will recount my tale of woe for you and you can decide for yourself if I speak lies.

I was born a mere 17 summers ago...
yes, 4695 by Absalom's Reckoning on the 5th of Pharast...
indeed, on the Day of Bones, blessings of Pharasma to all.
Now where was I? Indeed where was I...
I was born in county Odranto near the town of Ardagh.
My father died while I was only 6. He was a guardsman on the royal stagecoach.
He met his end in an encounter with some knights of the road while ferrying the taxes.
What's that? Yes, I'd love to find the men that killed him, but there are grander threats about.
As I was saying, without my father's income, my mother couldn't pay the local levies so our home was seized.
The tax collector who evicted us knew my father and he accepted us into his home. One would think it was a generous deed, but alas...
He was a man of many faces and he beat my mother and I mercilessly.
See this scar here? That's his handiwork.
After enduring three years there, my mother had had enough, she waited for the opportunity to steal away, taking me and a sizable amount of gold with her in the early evening.
We fled towards the forest and as darkness fell we trod slowly on the road.
My mother stopped, turned to me and apologized, tears streaming from her eyes, for the years of abuse she had inadvertantly imposed on us.
She was about to pull me in for a hug when her face blanched in fear.
I thought "Oh no, he's found us", and I started to turn to look behind me, but before I could, a dark figure appeared in a flash beside me.
It clutched my mother to itself thrusting its fangs into her. She uttered no sound as the fiend drained her of her life.
I launched my 10 year old frame at it, pelting it with my fists, but its flesh was like cold granite and I was less of a nuissance to it than a fly to a mare.
My mother's lifeloss body slumped to the ground and the fiend turned to me, my mother's blood stil fresh on its lips.
"Boy. You think you can slay me? Your only protection just died in my arms. Should I wish it, I could kill you now", the words echoed in my head, but his lips never moved.
It grabbed me by the throat and lifted me off the ground, my feet dangling, my breath choked in gasps.
I uttered between breaths, "Do it then! My life is ended, I have no father, nor mother now and if I return to the man in whose home I live, I will be beaten. What a life is that! Kill me fiend!"
He tossed me to the ground 10 feet away, sneering and laughing at me. He opened his mouth and spoke.
"No.", he paused, glaring at me and a smile appeared on his mouth.
"It gives me pleasure to let you live out your pathetic life. I do as I will, not as you wish. I will visit you anon to apprise myself of your suffering."
He reached down grabbing my mother's corpse and sped off with it at an inhuman speed.
I'll be honest, I sat there sobbing for a good hour and then I picked myself up and headed for Ardagh.
The priests at The Needle gave me shelter, blessed Pharasma to my rescue once again.
I recounted my tale of woe to them and I think they believed my story was naught but the fabrications of a 10 year old's imagination, but they cared for me nonetheless.
A few months went by and one night I was roused from my sleep by a rapping on my window.
I opened the shutters and looked through the bars and there at my fifth floor window was...
You're a bright one, correct, the fiend was there. His lips didn't move, but as he smiled I could hear his voice in my head.
"Well, Odnik, I've brought you a visitor."
He motioned towards the darkness in the shadow of The Needle and an woman all in white with skin of porcelain appeared.
I gasped in realization! "Mother!"...
except the horror that stood below was no longer my mother.
"Damn you!" I screamed aloud at the fiend.
My anger at all those beatings and the pain of all my losses channeled into one moment of rage directed at him...
After what seemed simultaneously a lifetime and mere seconds, one of the priestesses, Anna Corcesciu, burst into my room having been startled by my shout.
She looked past me out the window seeing that unholy terror. She thrust forth a silver spiral and held it aloft speaking "Begone unquiet dead" as she advanced to the window and repeated her demand.
The fiend sat there staring in at us. He bared his fangs at Anna. His skin smoked as she moved closer, the wisps visible in the moonlight.
He looked at me and whispered "I'll return, make no mistake." and he turned and dropped from the window ledge.
Anna ushered me out of the room and brought me to the High Priest. She announced that my earlier tales were true and that the fiend had come to my window.

is that sufficient?
if not, I can swap out Forlorn for Exile

It's CR19 and HeroLab will let you build it.

Here's the HeroLab portrait.

Denidiel Fallenwillow "Silent Killer of Many"

Background:

Denidiel Fallenwillow was raised in the Mierani Forest.
His family is shunned by many other of the elves living there because of an unfortunate blemish in his family history.
Denidiel's grandfather forced himself upon his grandmother.
The shame is that his grandfather belonged to the enemy faction of elves that live below the earth, the Drow.
Denidiel is one quarter Drow.
He has a dusky skin tone, darkvision, light sensitivity and is shorter than the average elf because of his Drow ancestry.
The stygma tainted his younger years as other Elves openly despised him, pitied him or shunned him.
Denidiel learned to be self-reliant and became a capable hunter living away from the others.
One day, a group of elves from a group known as the Shin'Rakorath came and arrested his father and were looking to arrest Denidiel as well.
Denidiel's remaining elven family gave him gold and told him to head south away from his home and not to trust other elves for fear that they would arrest him.
An encounter with a roving Shoanti tribe of the Hawk Clan left him being adopted by the tribe where he gained a few tattoos and the name Silent Killer of Many, but eventually he moved on.
Denidiel survived by hunting various game and ended up in the village of Sandpoint which he's come to enjoy over the last 5 years.
He can frequently be found at the White Deer Inn (he and Garridan are friends)
Concept/Build:

Elven Ranger
Favoured Enemy: Animals
Combat Style: Archery
Feat: Point Blank Shot
Traits: Forlorn, Shoanti Tribesman
Alternate Racial Abilities: Darkvision, Silent Hunter

Spoiler:
I'm thinking a Dhampir Druid with the following custom archtype that I made. What do you think?

Unnatural Druid (Dhampir)

Night's Bond (Ex)
An Unnatural Druid that chooses an animal companion must choose one of the following animal companions: Dire Bat, Dire Rat or Wolf.
An Unnatural Druid that chooses a domain may choose: Animal, Charm, Darkness, Death or Trickery.
This ability otherwise functions as Nature Bond.

Wild Empathy (Ex) modification
An Unnatural Druid gains a +4 bonus when influencing nocturnal animals.

Wild Shape (Su) modification
The animals that an Unnatural Druid may turn into are limited to Rats, Bats, and Wolves and their variations eg. Dire Bat.
However, this ability functions at the druid's level +2.
An Unnatural Druid may not turn into elementals or plants.
However, instead the Unnatural Druid gains the following abilities.
At 10th level, the Unnatural Druid may turn into a swarm per Swarm Form (variant abilty for Vampire Template)
At 12th level, the Unnatural Druid may turn into a Gaseous Form (per Vampire Template)
At 14th level, while in an animal form (not swarm or gaseous) a creature hit by a natural weapon gains one negative level (DC 10 + 1/2 level + CHA mod). This ability only triggers once per round, regardless of the number of attacks the druid makes.

I was looking at kobolds.

racial skill bonus Profession (Mining) 2 RP
racial skill bonus Craft (Traps) 2 RP
racial skill bonus Perception 2 RP

seriously?
Profession (Mining) and Craft (Traps) are each equivalent value to Perception?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

The kobold build in the race builder section left out the perception racial bonus (so they should be 7 RP not 5 RP), but putting it there would technically make them an advanced race (4 abilities)
perhaps the racial bonus for perception can be optionally slotted under the senses section?

Kobolds
Type: Humanoid (reptilian) 0 RP
Size: Small 0 RP
Base Speed: Normal 0 RP
Ability Score Modifiers: Greater weakness (–4 Str, +2 Dex, –2 Con) –3 RP
Languages: Xenophobic 0 RP
Racial Traits
Defense Racial Traits:
Natural armor 2 RP

Feat and Skill Racial Traits:
Skill bonus (Craft [trapmaking]) 2 RP
Skill bonus (Profession [miner]) 2 RP
Skill training (Craft [trapmaking] and Profession [miner]) 1 RP

Senses Racial Traits
Darkvision 60 ft. 2 RP
Skill bonus (Perception) aka Keen Senses 2 RP

Weakness Racial Traits
Light sensitivity –1 RP

Total 7 RP

The addition in the Race creation section forgot the Skill Bonus (Perception), but then that makes them an advanced race...
I suppose we could slot it in under Senses Racil Traits to get around that
Also it should be Xenophobic for Language

Pg 136 Draconic Breath (Kobold racial Feat)

see attached thread

7 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Text of Feat:
Draconic Breath
You possess draconic defenses and a draconic breath weapon.
Prerequisites: Draconic Aspect, kobold.
Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus against sleep and paralysis effects. You gain a breath weapon that is determined by your scale coloration by either the Draconic Aspect feat or the dragon-scaled racial trait. Using a breath weapon is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of
opportunity. You can use your breath weapon once per day. Creatures within the area of your breath weapon who succeed at a Reflex saving throw (DC 10 + your character level + your Constitution modifier) take only half damage.
Black (Su): You breathe a 30-foot line of acid that deals 2d6 points of acid damage.
Blue (Su): You breathe a 30-foot line of electricity that deals 2d6 points of electricity damage.
Green (Su): You breathe a 15-foot cone of acid that deals 2d6 points of acid damage.
Red (Su): You breathe a 15-foot cone of f ire that deals 2d6 points of fire damage.
White (Su): You breathe a 15-foot cone of cold that deals 2d6 points of cold damage.
Special: Kobold sorcerers with either the Draconic or Kobold bloodline can use their Charisma modifier instead of their Constitution to determine the number of times per day they can use this breath weapon and the DC of this breath weapon.

The special section says instead of and seems to imply that the uses per day is based on Con mod, yet the benefit text says otherwise.
Was this just missed?

Should it say the following?

Errata:
Special: Kobold sorcerers with either the Draconic or Kobold bloodline can use their Charisma modifier to determine the number of times per day they can use this breath weapon (min. 1) and use their Charisma modifier instead of their Constitution to determine the DC of this breath weapon.

Supplementary info for Denael Leafrider:
Denael's family is devoted to Ketephys, the elven god of hunting. They are a family of hunters. Many of his family are rangers and warriors with a forest bent (Devotee of Ketephys). As a result, he comes from a familial line that is stealthy, strong, hardy and quick. Denael likely would have become a ranger, but for a visit from a group of warriors passing through Crying Leaf from Kyonin on their way to Celwynvian. Some of the warriors were armed with a sword type Denael hadn't seen before, the elven curve blade. He became enamoured with it and it became embedded in his young inquisitive mind. He talked frequently with the warriors for the month they remained in Crying Leaf and he discovered that they belonged to a group called the Shin'Rakorath. Denael expressed interest in learning the use of the curve blade, but unfortunately the warriors had a mission to complete and could not stay to teach him. However, one of the elder town members, Randaliniel Moonglint, was a master of the curve blade and offered to teach Denael. Denael spent many years learning the art of the curve blade. One day while training, a beautiful elven maiden showed up and approached Randaliniel. She greeted him and gave him a hug. She was his daughter and she had just returned to crying leaf. Denael was smitten. He spent many afternoons getting to know her. Niriandra did not return the love as Denael was a hundred years too young for her and she was happy alone. Denael drilled and trained hard, partly because he loved it and partly because he wanted to impress Niriandra and her father (Warrior of Old). Randaliniel noticed that Denael was abnormally strong and taught him how to effectively put his weight into the curve blade to maximize his superior physique (Power Attack) and he practiced with melons perfecting his throughward motion with the blade and how to carry the blade to a second target (Cleave). In time, Denael became a capable fighter and he was eager to prove his skill to his mentor. A band of trolls had been marauding the surrounding area and were venturing too close to the town and preying on the merchant caravans from Varisia. A warparty was assembled of veteran warriors to eliminate or relocate the threat posed by the trolls. Denael volunteered when others blanched, he would not be deterred (Courageous). On the mission he discovered the realities of combat, but he did bisect a wounded troll with his curve blade. Denael felt a great amount of internal reward for serving his community. He enlisted in other warparties, gaining experience battling goblins, orcs and other smaller numerous threats. He discovered that threats in greater numbers often attempted to swarm and flank so he learned by necessity to cut down any that attempted such tactics (Combat Reflexes). After a litany of various small campaigns, Denael returned victorious. He went to Randaliniel and expressed his interest in Niriandra. His mentor told him that he would give his blessing if his daughter was willing, but he frankly told Denael that he believes that she is interested in another, Elrathis Willowheart, one of the more experienced and older warriors in the warparty. Denael approached her and she confirmed that she was not only interested in Elrathis, but that they were already covertly seeing each other and were preparing to announce their pairing publicly. Denael was crushed. Seeing them together sent shards of pain through him. He couldn't bear it. He had fought many battles beside Elrathis and considered him a comrade in arms. Denael opted to leave Crying Leaf to escape the pain and focus on the positive, he was young, he would recover, the pain would diminish. Additionally, it offered him a better view of the world outside. In his darker moments, he wished for death and he thought he might find it on his journeys. He travelled south towards Riddleport looking for trouble, desiring to help those in need. He realized that he missed his home and that even more he missed the sense of purpose of protecting the community. While in Riddleport, he encountered two elven warriors, not unlike those he had met years before and he discovered that they were also members of Shin'Rakorath. Denael recounted how he became interested in the curve blade from meeting their brethren and how it led him down his current path. A chance encounter with some seedy thugs near the docks gave him a chance to show his skill to them as the three of them fought off an assault by a dozen opponents. An offer to join them was put on the table and Denael inquired as to their purpose (he had never thought to ask the others he met in Crying Leaf). He realized that he could serve his people, fulfilling his need and readily signed on.

There was a thread on the WotC forums for AD&D3.5 a few years back that really delved into values for race and class features/abilities. It tried to score values for feats and attribute mods and the like.

Was that thread/project feedback taken into consideration at all while this book was being put together?

@DM Drider: It's in the Advanced Race Guide Playtest

He's removing Perception (2 RP) and Elf Magic (2 RP) for Advanced Strength (4 RP).

HP Average +1 means ?
d6 = 4 or 5 or 4.5
d8 = 5 or 6 or 5.5
d10 = 6 or 7 or 6.5
d12 = 7 or 8 or 7.5

Can I use a custom trait?
Devotee of Ketephys
Religion/Ketephys
You are devoted to the Elven god Ketephys. Pick one of the following skills: Handle Animal, Perception, Stealth or Survival. You gain a +1 trait bonus on that skill, and it is always a class skill for you.

er.. trait not feat (corrected)

2 Traits? Does one have to be a campaign trait?

You do realise that there is a d20 Star Wars game, right?
It's called Star Wars Saga Edition.

In Middle-Earth, overt use of magic draws attention from Sauron and his minions (eg. Frodo wearing the ring) and puts the wielder at risk of corruption (eg. Saruman and the Palantir).

The CCG Middle-Earth: the Wizards did an excellent job of conveying this mechanically.

Is this game full?

Are there enough for a separate game?

Male Human Technician 1

no, that's my real alias
I'm running Fextor Beebletrix

Male Human Technician 1

do we have faction specific goals in this adventure as well?
(new to this so I don't know the standard)

Male Human Technician 1

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

hums..."If you go out in the woods today..."

PFS = Pathfinder Society?

Male Human Technician 1

Click the show button next to "how to format your text"

there was a primer around here on how to post
Bold=Speech
Normal=Description
Italics=Thought

use [ dice ]1d20+3[ /dice ] but remove the spaces to get 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
you can preview to see the result if the result will impact what you would post

Many players use HeroLab which has a statblock output preformatted for Bulletin Boards

Male Human Technician 1

Are characters from 3.5 or Pathfinder?

I noticed Theriandis has 6 hp listed, but Bards in Pathfinder use d8.

Is the campaign set in a specific realm? (eg. Golarion/Pathfinder, Toril/Forgotten Realms, Krynn, Eberron, Darksun, etc.)

I'll play a sorceror if it's open.

I would imagine if a non-Clan member had a blade from another clan it would have to be very detailed as to why.

You'd probably have to marry into a new clan and keep your old blade or have some awesome journey to get one.

Even then, members of that clan would likely try to take it from you on sight.

I'd agree with that perception in general, but the Sparrow clan is primarily descended from the Crane clan and the general perception of the Sparrow clan from their Crane cousins is that of either sympathy for their "shame/plight" or mild disdain for their "rustic, commoner" ways. I suspect that they would continue to respect the deeds done by a bushi who had been recognized by the Crane clan even if he no longer was a member of said clan (to do otherwise would dishonour the giver of the gift) provided he did not use such a gift against the interests of the Crane clan (in such an event they would likely kill him and retrieve the family heirloom)

The rationale I had was that one of the Kakita bushi who was in service to Doji Suzume had received such a gift for his deeds as a Crane and when the Sparrow clan was founded this Kakita joined the fledgling clan swearing fealty to the Suzume family just as his distant ancestor had sworn a similar oath to Lady Doji. The sword and associated honor was passed down the family line and ended up in Nakata's hands.

To my knowledge, in Canada where I live it is legal to download copyrighted material for non-commercial use (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_infringement#Countries_where_sharin g_files_without_profit_is_legal).

However, I do cede that the same rights may not be present in all jurisdictions and as such I may inadvertantly be advocating illegal activities and as such I apologize.

yeah, I read your response to the last player

A couple of things would need to change about the character, however: First, I specified that only Great Clans were open to characters. Second, I also specified that you could only have a single (1) disadvantage.
yeah, I didn't see that post until after I had already posted.
GM-The Voice of Tengoku wrote:
If you want to be on the waitlist at all, I'd like a bit more background since you made the mechanics already. It had better be good to earn a Kakita blade: there have only been 4 made in recorded history.
actually, I didn't realize that (the fact that a player can spend 5 XP to get one to me implied that they were somewhat commonplace)
GM-The Voice of Tengoku wrote:
Why are you so awesome as to earn the 5th?

The plan was that Nakata inherited it from his grandfather and so on back to one of the Kakita bushi that swore an oath of loyalty to the founding Suzume, but if there are only four then that seems unlikely.

I just imagine an elven wizard with 10 STR with a Longsword swinging it with two hands should hit harder than swinging it with one.
Likewise if he had a dagger in his offhand he shouldn't be hitting as hard as if it was in his mainhand.
The rules account for this when the player has a strength bonus, but not when they have a penalty or no bonus.

I put the table down to 3 Str for completeness.
