Sadly not going to Gen Con, but I'm showing up to Paizocon as my PFS rogue. Nothing as grand as Jenny though! Sadly, with the no weapons rule, I think I'm missing 3/4 of the costume :-P Also, there's nothing really distinctly "Golarion" about my costume, but I'll see what I can come up with in the next two days :-P

If I saw that picture before I bought a dress for Shelyn for PaizoCon, I would have been too intimidated. Awesome dress & gorgeous chick...but damn I'm going to be really self-conscious. Glad I'm planning only to dress up for the Banquet at PaizoCon.

Don't be embarassed Deidre! I think you are brave for wearing a costume. Just get into the role mentally and you WILL be the goddess of beauty! It's not about the costume so much as the ATTITUDE...and you can threaten the competitors with your glaive if they don't concede that you win.

If it's any comfort, while Jenny had planned to attend PaizoCon, her time got preempted by a photo shoot this weekend — left for Costa Rica yesterday. She is still planning to attend GenCon and DragonCon though as far as I know.

Also remember that getting dressed up is it's own reward. Unless it's specifically your goal to be competitive or join an actual contest then don't sweat it. Trust me, as long as you aren't a big hairy man dressed up like Sailor Moon neither you nor anyone else should ever feel embarrassed about getting into costume at a sci-fantasy/gaming convention. Just have fun! :)

Please don't be self-conscious! That goes for everyone - seeing folks in Pathfinder-y costumes makes all of us at the office ridiculously happy, and we'd hate to think that anybody left theirs in the closet just because there were some other really good examples out there. Remember, at the very least, if your costume is good, you'll make it onto the Paizo blog... and as years of reality contest television has taught us, winning a contest isn't nearly as important as being in the spotlight. :)

Also, everyone has different tastes, so there's no telling which costumes will strike a chord with people. Jenny and Laithoron did a great job, but there are still two months left. And you never know if, say, someone who knows how to wear those creepy quadrupedal stilts might want to dress up as Rovagug...

The best way to pick a costume to make is to choose something that fits the way you look naturally, that way it's easier to make it work! There are many costumes that you'd feel more comfortable in too so pick one that you're going to have fun in.

I personally think nobody should be self-conscious because you're going to wear a costume get lots of well-deserving attention because you look cool! We are our own worst enemies when it comes to physical appearance so I promise you, other people will look and think, "Wow! They look AWESOME!" While you're worried that you look silly or bad. Just do it and have fun! Because I guarantee you, if you show up at the Con without your costume on you'll wish that you had!

I encourage times TEN people to dress up and have fun. I love it, and honestly it is one thing I need in my life... It makes me feel like when I used to believe in Santa Claus...lmao, you know that fun imagination?!

So, all I have to say about PaizoCon as well as GenCon....Come have your picture taken with Amiri (Me!).

I did make the Nethys costume for Blake...I'm REALLY proud of it. Only a few have seen it but I'm definitely proud of this one. It required a lot of paint but that's one thing I enjoy doing. Definitely going to love the pictures after this weekend!

See you at the Con! Amiri may be a little fatigued after this week, hehe, but we'll be there heehehe!

Yeah one problem of having a practical super model in a perfect costume is it intimidates anyone else who might want to get involved. Nothing against Jenny, as she's smokin hot, and has clearly the best intentions, but it would be like if freaking Stephen Hawkings were to enter the local high school science fair. Everyone else might as well not even bother showing up. Since Jenny isn't going to be there that should make for a more even playing field and in any event, as others have said, its more about the fun anyway so even though I too will not be at Paizo Con I hope others still go to town on costumes. I can't wait to see pics.

What does being "smokin hot" have to do with anything? A costume contest is about having a good costume.

And incidentally, I'd mark Jenny's costume down for using anachronistic high-heeled plastic pumps instead of leather sandals. It also lacks a red headpiece pulling her hair back in an authentic Seoni hairstyle.

Remember, folks, this isn't a "sexiest Pathfinder costume" contest. It's just a costume contest. Sex sells, it's true, but so does humor, accuracy, use of props, etc... there are many ways to win. And even in the sexiness category, people also have different types (as in, not everybody at Paizo has the same view of what's hot, or which gender does the best cheesecake :P).

Case in point: I've seen a lot of sexy halloween costumes, but last year I saw a couple dressed as a quality rendition of the Yip-yips from Sesame Street, and I would have given them the gold medal then and there. :)

You could ask all the guys at the table to play characters with low Wisdom scores and no ranks in Perception. Then you could wear your costume and call the neckline a roleplaying aid.
