Starfinder logo

Each day during PaizoCon Online, we’re taking a look at upcoming products, revealing new art and details, and diving deep into the day’s focus with a livestreamed Marquee Event panel and Q&A session. Today’s Marquee Event panel focused on the upcoming Starfinder Starship Operations Manual and other future Starfinder releases. This blog is a recap of some of the reveals covered in that session. Don’t forget to check out the PaizoCon Online Stream Schedule to stay on top of the latest Paizo news in real time!

Though convention season looks very different in 2020 than in years past, we’re still ecstatic to have the opportunity to spend PaizoCon Online with all of our fans, geeking out together (from a safe distance) over what lies in store for our favorite game of space fantasy.

Starship Operations Manual

This summer’s big Starfinder release is the Starship Operations Manual, a 160-page sourcebook for all things starship related, from custom upgrades and expansion modules, to advice on running starship-based campaigns, new starship monsters to challenge parties of all levels, to details on the galaxy’s most prominent manufacturers!

We would be remiss to make a book this size called the Starship Operations Manual and not include dozens of new starships ready to add to your campaign such as the trio shown here.

Starship Operations Manual contains rules on building supercolossal starships, such as in this illustration by Daniele Sorrentino.

Alien Archive 4

Following in Starship Operation Manual’s engine wake comes the Starfinder Alien Archive 4. As with previous alien archives, this book presents scores of new friends, foes, and potential player character races with tons of lore and new rules options tied to each.

Devastation Ark Adventure Path

We don’t just publish rules supplements, though! Starfinder is all about galaxy-spanning adventure, which we provide in the pages of the monthly Starfinder Adventure Path. In August, we’ll launch the first sequel AP in the line with the 3-chapter high-level Devastation Arc Adventure Path. This campaign begins at 13th level, making it the perfect sequel to nearly all of our previous APs, and characters should reach 20th level by the story’s conclusion!

Fly Free or Die Adventure Path

In November, we’ll mix things up and return to our normal 6-chapter campaign format with the Fly Free or Die Adventure Path. In this exciting story, the player characters aren’t necessarily heroes—at least not intentionally. A crew of scoundrels, rogues, and misfits, they find it hard to survive in a galaxy where everyone has a price. Targeted by a crime boss and his army of enforcers, preyed upon by faceless mega-corporations, and hounded by rivals, the crew of the Free Trader Oliphaunt line up the big score that will at last make them rich beyond their wildest dreams. But when their many enemies join forces and the crew loses it all, they find out there are two things in the galaxy that can't be bought: freedom... and revenge.

Galaxy Exploration Manual

Fans wondering what our next hardcover rules supplement will be need look no further, because we’re happy to announce the Starfinder Galaxy Exploration Manual for release in April of next year. This book will provide players and GMs alike with rules for hailing from or exploring the myriad worlds found in the Starfinder galaxy, covering a variety of biomes and planetary concepts, allowing for nearly endless possibility every time a starship drops out of the Drift into uncharted space. It’s still nearly a year out, so we don’t have a lot to show you now, but we’ll have a lot more on this book as its release approaches.

What about the New Starfinder Class Playtest that was announced at todays Starfinder panel? I know nothing else was revealed about it yet, but I thought someone should bring that up here.

Well, do tell us more!

Yes, thank you. That reveal was added by Rob at the end of the seminar. There will be a playtest for a new Starfinder class announced soon. The class was not revealed, nor the book it was destined for.

A playtest for just a single class is almost unprecedented for Paizo... the only previous example I can think of was the shifter. What kind of book would inspire exactly one class for it, I wonder?

An amazing book. I'm looking at the outline now. It's beautiful.

But it will have it's day in trillion suns soon enough. In the meantime, I'm also excited about Galaxy Operations Manual. I'm looking at the outline now. It's beautiful.

Small correction: the shifter didn't have a playtest, but the magus and vigilante did.

My guess for the class playtest is going to be that it is some sort of Mech Pilot or something in a similar similar vein or flavor, like maybe the Symbiont archetype for the Summoner from Pathfinder 1E.

It could also be something like a all-around general Pilot/Driver class, a non-magical Hacker/Virtual Reality Diver class, or a Cop/Detective class of some sort. But, I am thinking it will most likely be a Mech Pilot type of class.

HYPE IS NOW AT LUDICROUS LEVELS!

Oh how I LOVE this game!

In fairness, even the playtest version of the Vigilante was more like four classes in a trench coat than just 1 class, so it probably felt like a bigger playtest than it was.

Thanks for posting this. I had the SpaceX stream on all day so I couldn't watch.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten any Tian Xia love in Starfinder when Asian cultures play such a big role in many science fiction and cyberpunk stories.

Would also be a great opportunity for space kitsunes, Drift wayangs, and samsarans struggling to recapture lost memories of lives during the Gap.

Tengu, too.

Unless something changed I'm not aware of?

With all the new races that came out since the start of Starfinder, I really think we are overdo for some legacy legacy races like Kitsune, Tengu, Wayang, Nagaji, and Samsarans to get some representation in Starfinder, as well as some of the races from Pathfinder 2E like the Shoony, Anadi, Iruxi, and Leshies.

One of the members of Strawberry Machine Cake (from Starfinder Society scenario S1-14: Star Sugar Heartlove!!! in particular) is a nagaji, and in that same scenario, the PCs meet some other nagajis as well. In all cases, the terms "nagaji" and "cobra-headed humanoid" are used interchangeably, suggesting their appearance has changed slightly during the Gap, becoming more ophidian.

Bone is a vesk; Tsuchi-ko is a nagaji.

A new class? I haven't seen the panel. Any clue?

No clues were given, it was only mentioned in the last minute or so of the panel. It's not even clear when the playtest is going to begin other then Soon(TM).

But based off of John's comment, it's NOT tied to the Galaxy Exploration Manual. Which unfortunately means we have no real clue what it could be. Although on the plus side, once that test starts we'd have a pretty good idea what August 2021's book is going to be about.
