Narnel leans casually on his staff, and as the other nature lover among the group begins to look for tracks, Narnel advances slowly behind her, towards the thick brush holding the enemy campfires.
Vaneros Anteri |
Vaneros thorowly enjoys the walk, staying at the rear of the group and observung the rest.
I'm wondering what kind of people they are. They seem friendly enough, but so do I and I'm with a devil, he thinks with a chuckle. Cade appears to be a competent leader and having that walking and talking giant with is can't be bad. But Keaton, he makes my skin crawl. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just because he'll know I'm not a wizard once I cast my first spell.
Once in the target area, he starts looking for tracks, lost equipment, anything that might give them a clue. He agrees to the plan of circling the presumed camp.
"Lemmy seems to be a real asset to you. Is he a real bird or a being purely born from magic?"

Keaton Larroquette |
Keaton eagerly looks Vaneros, magic is something apparently Keaton likes to talk abou!
I believe he is magic! But I am not exactly sure. Someone told me he is part fey spirt. I really do not think he is an animal. Still trying to figure that out. With the exception of a previous traveling companion that taught me my first spells, I am mostly self taught. I have really been trying to master being arcane and all. I try to read and talk to as many casters as I can. Did you said you cast? Where did you study?
Vaneros Anteri |
"Waterdeep," Vaneros answers nonchalantly. "You'd be surprised how long they take to teach you your first spell. I finally had enough of it and left." So to speak.
"I've learned some tricks off my own since then. Tell you what, as soon as we've dealt with the problem at hand, let's exchange experiences over an ale at the inn. I haven't met another caster in a while and it'll be good to get another professional opinion on some things I'm working on."
A self-taught mage, interesting. I must be careful. Maybe he is to reason with and won’t go calling to raise a stake in my name once he finds out my true source of power. He will find out one way or another, so maybe being up front with it will work. This time at least. Maybe...
”You said you were a sailor? Which port did you sail from? And what are you doing this far inland? I always thought once a sailor always a sailor.”

Lemmy takes to flight toward the dell, a half mile in the distance to the north, soaring high in the sky before making a beeline toward the brushed choked valley.
Kenna began to search for tracks upon the ground. It did not take her long before she found obvious tracks through the brush on the north side of the road where the bushes and ground cover had been recently trampled. Best guess would be that the group that passed this way had at least six if not more, along with a wagon or cart of some sort. It looked as if the group had headed north toward the brush choked dell at the edge of the foothills that was about a half mile away.
Vaneros examined the tracks more carefully, sizing up any foot prints and sticking his finger into the cart tracks and then looking at how deep they were. Vaneros quickly acknowledge to the rest that the tracks were all definitely human and he would wager on at least eight and not six. Also whatever was in the cart was extremely heavy, maybe 500 - 600 pounds at the least. It also wasn't pulled by any animals, the humans themselves were actively pulling it. Thus the reason that some brushes, etc. had been laid flat. The tracks was about eight hours old. So whomever passed through here did so late last night.
Sizing up their find, the group of strangers began the journey toward the dell across the field of scattered brush and occasional tree that lay before them. What would they find once they got there?
Please make a post of your actions across the field. If you are using any skill such as stealth or survival please provide a roll or let me know that you are using your passive check for the used skill.

Bears and Bows Round One
As the seven companions began making their way down into the undergrowth and brush as quietly as they could. For some it was easy work but some of the others found the task of being completely silent much more difficult. The group worked their way deeper into the valley pacing themselves apart so that any ones slip up did not reveal and expose the rest of the party. They had not heard a cry from Lemmy so the men they lay ahead must not be aware of their approach.
The group soon drew close enough to the center of the valley that they could smell the smoke from the campfire and hear voices in the distance. The group split apart trying to approach the camp from multiple angles. Soon the lead scouts were close enough to see and hear the conversation around the campfire.
Before the group lay a makeshift camp in front of a cave entrance. Four surly humans sharpened their blades around the fire. The four men wore tattered leather armor and had scimitars strapped to their hips and light crossbows swung across their backs. The fire they were standing close to had a half eaten very large boar on a makeshift spit.
The smell of the animal fat that dripped down from their meal was overwhelming. To say it looked very appetizing would be a understatement of the worst kind.
Nearby the group could see a wagon with a wooden cage atop it. Inside the cage, a large black bear paws at the bars. There is also writing on the side of the wagon but you can not quite make out the words from this distance.
Surveying the scene you listen intently to the conversation.
"I don't know why Sam insisted on leaving us here while him and the others went to meet with that Grimjaw fellow on OUR behalf none the less." spits one of the men.
"Yeah, and why we had to capture that thing." pointing to the bear "is beyond my comprehension as well." spits another.
"Yeah that bear killed ole Louie. Don't see the meaning of staying around this place anyway. That constable fellow is bound to come looking for us sooner or later." adds a third man.
"Ok boys, he left us here with plenty of food." gesturing toward the spit "Plenty of precious baubles." pointing toward the cave "and besides if we get that contract with that Grimjaw fellow then all our troubles and worries will be over, you see. We'll be like really employed and have a nice warm bed to sleep in every night." The fourth one says trying to calm the other three men down.
Just then Laial stumbled across a fallen branch and stepped out into the open. This immediately drew the attention of all four men around the fire.
"Well well, what do we have here? A spy from the village no doubt." one of the men said as they drew their crossbows and pointed them at the woman.
"She's one of those blue skinned, and armored to boot. Tiny little thing though." another one of the men said.
"Well as soon as we get that armor off her, she's mine. Now come on little lady, set those weapons down before you get hurt now." the third man instructed. Licking his lips as he looked on.
"Enough! Be on your guard she may not be alone." the fourth man said as they began to move in Laial's direction.
Lemmy lets out a cry from the branches above, momentarily freezing the men in their tracks as they look up.

If you are currently hidden (your token will be shaded blue on the map) then you can have advantage in this round due to the ambush opportunity if you attack before the bandits go. Once the bandits go they are on full alert and you will no longer gain the benefit of the surprise advantage from the stealth.
Tokens that are (shaded gray) are incapacitated like the black bear because it is caged.
Remember if you continue to stealth it requires your action to do so and you must remain inside a area with cover on the map. You can stealth and move half your normal speed.
Once you attack or move into the open then you loose the hidden status.
Please keep your encumbrance in mind when moving if your movement speed is effected.
Do not wait for others to post, post up your round actions and then once everyone post up I will resolve the actions into the initiative order. If you attack a target that is no longer available because of another players actions that went before you I will move you to the next closest target if available if you can get to them and attack.
Please keep mechanics and dice rolls spoilered and lay out your actions in OOC if needed. Please reference grid coordinates from the map and target number i.e. Bandit #1 etc.
Good luck to all...

(You may have to refresh the webpage to get the latest map image.)
Being spotted by the bandits Laial draws her weapon and readies herself taking on a full defensive posture exactly where she stands. Looking over at the bandits that are preparing to head in her direction she utters a single phrase "You want it? Come get it!"
The bear in it's cage sees the newcomer and slams itself into the front bars of it's cage. It's first halfhearted lunge just caused it to fall back from the door.
Kenna comes bursting out of the tree line in a rush to get behind the bandit and to the black bear's cage. The Scimitar and Dagger she is carrying glint in the light of the sun as she runs.
Cade moves up beside Molock in the tree line as he sings his battle hymn. A blueish light streaks forth from his hand snaking its way toward three of the bandits. Two of the three bandits that was targeted by the blue beam of light manage to dodge out of the way, however the third one did not as the beam hits him squarely in the chest causing him to glitter with a pale blue light. The man quickly tries to wipe it off as if someone had spilled something on him but the effort was meaningless. Cade's song empowers the goliath beside him with confidence and inspiration.
The bandits react to the newly arrived guest. The one with the blue sparkle on him spits "She ain't alone. That one is a mage of some sort!" as he points toward Cade who is taking cover in the edge of the tree line. The bandit raises his crossbow in his direction and fires. The arrow missing it's mark and hitting a tree about five feet away. The bandit then steps to the east inside the edge of the treeline himself, taking cover from ranged attacks.
The next bandit saw Kenna's approach and loosed a crossbow bolt in her direction. The arrow flew straight and the arrow flew true, striking the woman in her neck, just missing her jugular as she crumbles to the ground. Blood sprays from the wound and Kenna's body twitches and convulses on the ground as if having a seizure of some kind. The bandit then moves over, adjacent to the convulsing woman and points his crossbow at her. "Stay back, all of you or I will end her suffering permanently." he growls.
The third bandit yells to the first, "Don't worry I got this mage fellow." as he pulls the trigger on his light crossbow in Cade's direction. The bolt arcs way over Cade's head and flies through the trees behind him with a hiss. The bandit then moves over into the treeline next to the first bandit to find some cover.
The final remaining of the four bandits says "Don't worry about him, I want her." he says while looking at Laial. He drops his crossbow on the ground and pulls his scimitar from its scabbard while moving over next to Laial. "I promise I won't hurt any important spots." he says as he slices the weapon in her direction. Laial sees the blow coming and easily parries with her shield. "Tougher than you look, aren't you." he spits. "This is gonna be fun."
Seeing his fallen comrade, Narnel rushes from his hidden spot in the trees to aid Kenna by attacking the man standing over her to keep him from finishing her off. The man never sees Narnel coming as Narnel swings down heavily with his staff driving it into the bandits shoulder. He then jabs a knee into the bandits midsection. Unfortunately it was not enough to drop the bandit as he prepared to retaliate.
Seeing what is going on in front of him Vaneros tries to study the lock on the black bear's cage but from his distance he can not see a lock to fire at. He notices out of the corner of his eye as Narnel attacks the man about to kill Kenna. Vaneros steps from behind the tree and throws a hand up as a bolt of pure energy flies in the direction of the bandit that is standing over Kenna. The blast strikes the bandit in the chest and knocks him to the ground like a sledge hammer. The man's eyes open wide. Obviously that was enough to send the bandit to the afterlife and protect Kenna for the moment. Although she looked to be in really bad shape.
Keaton whipped up some illusionary magic from the shadows, trying to confuse and panic the bandits before him. The three bandits that remain suddenly startle. "There's too many of them, they are everywhere" one of the men scream from the treeline. The other one next to him answers with a cry "Fall back to the cave!" The bandit next to Laial simply replies to the other two men "Not without her. Stand your ground."
Molok leaves his hidden spot in the trees and closes in on the first bandit that is currently taking cover in the treeline, swinging his greatsword high in the air and then back down again Molok slashes across the man's chest and opens up a horrendous wound right through the leather armor the man wore. The mighty blow causes the man's knees to buckle under the force and Molok is covered in red spray from the man's wound. The bandit before him wobbled left and then right but did not go down, nor did he drop his weapon. The glazed look in the bandits eye was enough to let Molok know he was close to death but just had not crossed the line yet.

Vaneros Anteri |
Is life passes from the bandit hit by Vaneros' blast both can hear a deep moaning resonating in their heads: ”Mmmmmmhhhh! The sweet taste of life coming to an end. Feel it Vaneros, this is your doing...” A laugh rings in Vaneros' ears.
”Don’t you think I know? But his soul still isn’t yours, I didn’t use your powers to kill him, you don’t have the right to take him.” He replies bitterly.
”A pity, but you’re right, a contract’s a contract,” Ixerazhou sighs.
Vaneros dives back into cover and tries to control his breath. Keaton notices his comrade’s amber eyes now glowing like the fires of a forge.
Without giving it another thought Vaneros spins around and throws another bolt of energy at the first bandit he sees, hoping to take him out as fast as possible.
Yet his aim isn't true and he quickly retreats into cover.

Laial seeing the bandit upon her strikes out with her longsword, nicking the bandit on his arm. "Kenna needs my assistance, get this scoundrel off me!" she cries out as she maneuvers herself around the bandit toward the fallen Kenna but does not disengage her foe.
The bear became very upset in his cage as all the violent action was happening before the animal. He struggled against the cage's bars slamming against the door of its prison. The cage's lock had already been previously broken and was currently spiked shut with an iron piton. The cage held no match for the force that the black bear exerted on it and the door blew right off its hinges as the black bear came free as the wagon tore to shreds. With its new found freedom it moved to engage the closest living being which happened to be one of the bandits in the treeline near Molok.
Kenna's body continued to convulse as blood poured from her wound. The crossbow bolt literally protruding from both sides of her neck front to back just below or jawline.
Cade again releases his sonic attack and his vicious words. The sound reverberates inside the bandits head that had just been slashed open moments ago by Molok. Blood now streams from the mans ears, nose and eyes as he crumbles to the ground, landing with a audible thud. Seeing the man fall Cade moves from the protection of the treeline and takes up a position next to Laial now dropping his concentration on the Faerie Fire since it no longer effects a living soul.
The bandit that was just engaged by the bear takes the opportunity to disengage his opponents and head for the protection of the cave. "Head for the cave, the bear is loose!" he screams as he runs. Meanwhile the bandit that had no fear that stood now in front of both Laial and Cade chuckled in Cade's direction "Welcome to the party, boy! You'll have to wait your turn.!" as he brought his scimitar down upon Laial once again. Laial once again tried to block the attack with her shield. The bandit had anticipated this move and swung over the top coming down hard into Laial's shoulder with sparks flying off her ringmail. The ringmail showed a huge chink in its shoulder area but the blow had not penetrated this day.
Narnel examined Kenna's wound as he took his herbalism kit from his pack and applied some to it. The bolt was just to close to a main artery to be removed. She was lucky to be alive he thought. He would not dare even touch it at this point. He tore some bandages of cloth from her clothes and bandaged around the bolt as best he could and as best as the bolt would allow. The ointment seemed to calm her convulsing somewhat, however she still twitched in her unconscious state and her face seemed racked with pain but she seemed to be stable at the moment.
Vaneros steps from his cover once again and launches another blast of Eldritch energy. This time the force goes for the bandit standing in front of Laial but the attack is off its mark as it kicks up dirt and twigs from the ground at the bandits feet. Vaneros steps back into the tree line for cover.
Keaton directed the illusionary sound around the group to increase in volume, simulating that others were fast approaching and ordered the bandit in front of Laial to throw down his weapon. When he refused Keaton frantically began searching out a spot on the ground. tracing the area in his head as best he could, rethinking it as Cade drew in close to Laial. Finally he had his calculations and began by picking up a pinch of fine sand from the ground before him. Placing his hand where in his vision it was at the top of the bandits head, he sprinkled the sand from his fingertips as he blew upon it. "Sleep now" he said softly. The bandit standing in front of Laial and Cade crumpled to the ground snoring even before he landed. Keaton then quickly moved out of the tree line and kicked the mans scimitar away from him and back into a area of heavy grass..
Molok chases after the bandit that was running for the cave, catching up with him and bringing his greatsword down at him chopping into his back. Fortunately the man's leather armor did its job and the blow glanced off of it without so much as a cut. The bandit screamed at Molok "For the gods sake man, don't you see that BEAR! He will kill us all, now leave me alone and we both can live without death this day!"

Cade Ravenhill |
Seeing the bandit before him fall Cade gives a big grin in Keatons direction. His joy is short lived as he hears a horrific roar emanating from the bear behind him. He turns and thinks We are having the worst luck and springs into action and begins running toward the bear and sings, ”♪ Monk of water, fire, earth and air.
Stone like fist to kill a bear♫” and continues in a mocking tone to the bear ”You are going to make a terrific cloak.”
ACTION: and cast Vicious Mockery on the bear (DC 13 Will save or take 1d4 points of damage and have a disadvantage on its next attack action.)
BONUS ACTION: Uses inspiration on Narnel (1d6 to add to a d20 anytime in the next 10 minutes)

Keaton Larroquette |
Keaton continues to strip the man of his gear, tossing it out of his reach should he wake.
The rope is in my pack, next round to retrieve it, then the following round to tie the bandit.
Narnel Falerathon |
Narnel, after seeing Kenna stabilized, darts into the brush near the wagon to approach the bear and Bandit engaged with Molok from a hideden position. As he moves into cover, Cade feels an overwhelming sense of confidence in his abilities to aid Molok in what could surely be a dangerous situation when and if the bear turns his attention that way.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Vaneros Anteri |
Vaneros moves out of cover and towards the campfire and thus: the bear. If this beast gets the idea of eating Kenna... He tries to shut out the mental image that's building inside his head.
"Hey! Hey!" Vaneros starts shouting from the top of his lungs, then concentrates and fires another Eldritch Blast at the now freed beast. "I'm here! Come and get me!"
Smart move. Really smart, he hears the voice inside his head.
I think for once we agree, Vaneros answers, swallowing hard. His stomach is turning as he observes the beast he just challenged.
This is just a ruse. The others will have this thing down and out before he even touches you, the Mage tries to calm himself.
Vaneros moves towards the bear, yet tries to pull him away from Kenna. So maybe field H8 or H10. (do diagonal moves cost 1.5 times movement?)
He then uses Eldritch Blast: Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24, Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 9
P.S.: Please don't let me be eaten by a bear!

Seeing the bandit before her fall into slumber, Laial dashed over to Kenna's side. She stowed her weapon on the way and yelled to Narnel "I got this, I will try to save her. Go help our comrades."
The bear moved but did not have to move far trailing Molok and the fleeing bandit. It turned its mighty rage against the stone man. First slashing out at him with his claws. The sharp claws of the creature ripped into Molok's torso ripping the stone like flesh of the man. Then the bear reached out and took a bite out of Molok's left leg again ripping stone flesh from the man. Molok almost was dragged to the ground and eaten on the spot. Covered now in his own blood and gasping heavy from his wounds, Molok somehow still stands.
Kenna's body lay still twitching in front of Laial's gaze. Her wound still seeping blood through the makeshift bandages.
Cade moved forward insulting the bear with his psychic banter but it seemed to have no effect on the bear. Cade them shouted encouraging words to Narnel to join the fight.
The remaining awake bandit next to Molok used the bears sudden attack on Mollock to try and finish the stone man off with his own attack. He raised his scimitar to deliver a killing blow. The scimitar sliced across the back of Molok catching him by surprise. Molok again staggered under the blow and his footing was unsure but somehow, someway something inside him would not let the stone like man go down.
The bandit turned to run away but with the stone man still on his feet he thought better of it and prepared to defend himself against a return assault.
Narnel rushed to take cover behind the broken wagon but he was spotted by both the bear and the bandit that was awake. However the wagon did provide full cover from any ranged attacks at the moment.
Vaneros darts from cover out into the open by the campsite and taunts the bear as he fires a blast of energy in the bears direction striking it with a powerful blow as it howls in pain and raises up on its back legs. The ripples of the force blast visibly apparent across its hide as ribs break.
Keaton meanwhile finishes disarming the sleeping bandit by tossing his crossbow into the tree line. He thinks better of trying to remove the mans armor as it would probably wake him. Keaton removes his rope from his pack getting ready to tie the man up in a few moments.
Molok, staggering under his wounds brings his greatsword above his head and brings it down in one fell swoop across the bears head. The blow is not pretty, it is not a precise strike but the blade digs deeply into the bears skull as it collapses to the ground, twitches a few times and then stops all movement. The great bear was dead.

Laial inspected Kenna's wound thoroughly. It was one of the worst wounds she had seen and in a very bad place. She could not risk removing the bolt that protruded from both sides of Kenna's neck and heal her quick enough from dying. Using the blade from her longsword as leverage she cut off the extended part of the bolt on both sides so only an inch protruded on either. This caused Kenna to twitch and struggle even in her unconscious state. "Be calm by child, stay with us." Laial said in a calm soothing voice, almost like the ocean tide slowly coming in. Laial then removed her holy symbol and placed it against Kenna's neck and recited a prayer to her deity and waved her hand over the symbol as it began to glow a bluish green almost the color of the deep sea. Kenna convulsed heavily as the wound around the bolt seemed to close around the piece of wood. The wound not completely closing because of the bolts presence but healing the woman some none the less. As the wound healed partially up Kenna's eyes flicked open with a look of terror across them. "Lay still my child, let the magic work." after a few moments she said "Welcome back to the land of the living"
Kenna did not respond yet, she was still in an incredible amount of pain as she looked around at what was happening. Laial gave her water from her waterskin to help sooth her throat and explained about her taking a crossbow bolt in the neck and that she was lucky to be alive.
Cade moved rapidly through the trees, circling around Molok to try and out flank the bandit from escaping into the cave.
The bandit that was still awake struck out at Molok in rage "You will not kill me as you have the rest of my crew. You stone bastard!" he said as he brought his scimitar to strike Molok across his chest. As the blow hits Molok everything goes black as he crashes to the ground hard on the rocks under his feet. The sound is over powering as the stone man falls. The bandit turns to Cade "Get out of my way or you are next!" he spits.
Narnel closed the distance with the bandit coming leaping through the trees. Striking the bandit with his staff across the top of the head which sent the bandit hard to the ground, following that Narnel's foot went out against the bandits neck and with a crack the bandit's neck was broken and he lay dead.
Vaneros meanwhile swirled another blast of energy up in his palms but upon seeing the bandit go down released the energy harmlessly back to nature.
Keaton finishes tying up the sleeping bandit.
Molok's body lay on the rocks before the group, blood coming from his mouth and not moving.

Keaton Larroquette |
Keaton will yell to the group, unaware of Molok's injuries.
This one is secured, and asleep. Can someone double check my knotwork, he us not ships rigging.
Keaton then telepathically talks to Lemmy.
Keaton has a list of questions for the hawk spy.
Good job! Did we get them all?
Did we miss any?
Did anyone or anything come out of the cave?
Did you see any leave the camp before we arrived?
Do you remember any conversation they had?
Anything else you remember from scouting ahead?
Cade Ravenhill |
Cade rushes to Molok's side and gets down on one knee while placing his hands on Molok's head. In his rich baritone he begins to chant;

2 people marked this as a favorite. |
As the goliath falls to the ground, he experiences a moment of vertigo when suddenly he is looking down on the scene from several feet above. He sees his own body and those of the bear and bandits, as well as his comrades. All his friends seem to have an odd aura surrounding them, some stronger than others...Kenna's is almost nonexistent, while the bear, bandits and himself, seem to be dark stains on the landscape. Looking left and right he notices ghostly shapes floating with him. One is that of a great bear, and the others are more human shaped. The human's begin to fade before his eyes, while the bear looms before him, an angry look in is dark eyes.
"I am sorry great one for what I had to do, but I could not be sure you would not harm one of my friends.
As it stands I see we both will be going to see our ancestors. I leave you with no ill will and hope you can do the same."
The great bear looks at the ghostly shape of the warrior then opens it's mouth but instead of a growl or roar, a strangely distant voice says, "You are buying the first round"
Suddenly the vertigo returns, and with it pain and ache and the smell of blood, and pine and the feel of a cool breeze upon his prone body.
"What happened? Where is the bear?", he grumbles as he struggles to sit up.
DM Asmodeus |
Cade kneels over Molok's body and begins to recite some strange words before laying his hands on the stone man's chest. His wounds begin to stitch themselves back together under a slight magical light that radiates throughout the large mans body.
The bandit that was asleep wakes up and struggles against his restraints.
We are out of initiative. Combat over.
Lemmy replies "That is all I seen. I think you got them all. Nothing came out of the cave. Those were the only ones here when I arrived. They were just discussing the other ones leaving them. That is all."

Vaneros Anteri |
With a few quick steps Vaneros is back at their captive. He crouches down in front of him and starts speaking in a low and even voice, never breaking eye-contact. His eyes are still glowing with a strange fiery light.
"We fought, you lost. That's the way of things," Vaneros states all matter of fact. "We have all right to kill you after what you did to our friend and possibly many other travellers on the road. You're at a crossroads now. You can decide to remain silent and let us decide your fate on your past actions. Or you can agree to work with us and try to convince us that you're not beyond saving."
He waits a few seconds for his words to take effect and make sure their captive has understood them.
"Start by telling us what you know. About what you and your companions are doing here. Where everyone is who's not here. Who this Grimjaw is and what he has to do with you. And what is in that cave. Be precise. Leave nothing out. This is your one chance for redemption. Don't waste it on stupid lies and sensless profanity. Don't think I'm above killing you right where you sit, sending your soul straight to hell."
Vaneros doesn't try to scare the captive, although it might have that effect.
