More Venture-Officers On Board

Monday, January 23, 2012

With the coming of the new year, we continue to grow Pathfinder Society at a tremendous rate. With that, I want to make sure we have good leadership in place so that continue to grow and expand. Over the past few months, we added three more Venture-Captains who have not yet formally been introduced, and today we are adding even more to the growing list of Venture-Captains.

I am excited to add three new areas to our Venture-Captain regions. The first is Kansas City, Missouri. Seth Brummond fills an important role in an area ripe for growth and that has been wanting a Venture-Captain. Not only will he be serving western Missouri, but will also be able to help organize and coordinate growth of Pathfinder Society in eastern Kansas.

The second new area is Albany, New York. The capital region of New York has seen an explosion of growth in Pathfinder Society activity over the past several years and I look forward to seeing the direction Evan Whitefield takes Pathfinder Society.

The third new area is Houston, Texas. I know that Houston has seen sporadic Pathfinder Society play and is just waiting for someone to step in and get things organized. Robert Vaughn is just the person to hit the ground running as we watch the Houston Lodge grow.

We also have had two Venture-Captains step down due to real-life responsibilities. I wish fair winds and following seas to both Rene Ayala from Arizona and Neil Shackelton from Toronto. Both of them have done an outstanding job establishing a foothold for Pathfinder Society in their regions and the new Venture-Captains have big shoes to fill.

Assuming Rene’s responsibilities, Jason Leonard has been appointed as Venture-Captain of Arizona. Assuming Neil’s responsibilities, Robert Trifts has been appointed as Venture-Captain of the Ontario region of Canada.

In addition to the new Venture-Captains above, we have added the following Venture-Lieutenants to help some of our current Venture-Captains reach out to areas in their regions that are either too far away to cover on a regular basis, or are too numerous to cover at all. They include the following:

  • Albany, NY – Brett McLean
  • Arizona – Cody Lucas
  • Central/Southern Illinois – Shaun Burton
  • Indiana – Chris Bonnet
  • Oregon – Todd Tepper
  • San Diego, CA – Terence Brawley
  • Virginia – Jeremy Hitchcock
  • Wisconsin – Matthew Starch
  • Melbourne, Australia – Ryan Koetsveld
  • Ontario, Canada – Jeff Mahood
  • Denmark – Jacob Trier

We are still in need of additional Venture-Captains in some regions and you can find the list here. If you are interested in applying, please contact me after reviewing the application process in the previous link.

Here's a possibly odd question - How far north does the Albany, NY region cover? I live up in Lake Placid, and so far we don't have any Pathfinder Society coverage (granted, there's only a few gamers up here in Yetiland).

What is the best way to contact a venture captain (specifically Robert Vaughn for Houston)? I haven't gotten to play my 8th level cleric of Pharasma since last year's Comicon.

Congratulations to all the new Venture-Officers, and especially to fellow Canadian Robert Trifts, stepping up from Leftenant to Captain!

Via email, generally. There's a list of all of us on the link Mike provided in his blog entry. It doesn't look like it's been updated with Robert's contact info yet. Also, both Dave Woodfin (VC Austin) and myself will be at OwlCon during the first weekend in February. It will be a great opportunity to play PFS and hook up with other players in the region.

I expect Robert will be there, too, but I haven't heard either way.

Also, a warm welcome to all the new VCs and VLs, especially Robert. I know Dave is going to be happy now that he's *just* covering Austin and San Antonio...

Welcome aboard all, especially Robert. Hope to see you at Owlcon. (We could still use a standby GM.)

If not, you're always welcome at my game at Asgard Games. We play the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Monday of every month at 6:30.

I just wanted to respond even though I haven't gotten the official upgrade in the Paizo system yet...

Thanks to everyone for the well-wishes, and I promise to do my best to help grow the Houston Lodge into a vibrant and active gaming community. I will be trying to meet with all active players and GMs over the next couple of months to develop a strategy for growing the Society's presence in our region.

Jonathan: I will be at OwlCon as a player the first weekend in February. I plan to use the PFS play there to meet a lot of our community in a brief time.

psychicmachinery: My email will be posted later today on the Venture-Captain site, but it is houston.venture.captain.rlv@gmail.com.

Please get in touch with me if you have ideas about the Houston PFS, as I am going to be looking for allies and community leaders. I hope very much to be meeting and gaming with you all very soon!

I actually tried to come and play last Monday, but ended up getting sucked into a late meeting at work...I will do everything that I can to get to the next one though, as you are on my list as someone to know...

I haven't received any applications from Miami.

Congratulations to Ryan Koetsveld!

Looking forward to meeting you, Robby, at Owlcon.
If you're playin, you need to get into those low level Quest for Perfection games with Team Monk.

Thanks for the warm wishes. I'm not a Shackleton, but I'll try to run Kingdom of the Impossible frequently anyways. :)

Generally speaking, I think Evan and I are actively covering as far north as the Saratoga area. However, shoot us an email and we'll see what we can do to help out.

Congrats all! It is great to see PFS continue to grow.

How about a Venture Captain for Sacramento? We have a million plus in the area, and lumping us with the bay area(a 1 1/2 to 3 hour drive), just doesn't work for events that are semi-weekly.

Robby,

If you haven't already, join the Texas PFS site we have set up.

Pathfinder Society Texas

We are trying to keep the whole Texas community connected and we us that site for it.

After registering for the Page email Dave Woodfin so he can accept it.

It can happen if the right person comes along and submits an application and sells me on the idea. Kansas City wasn't initially on the list but Seth sold me on the fact the area needed one.

Point any interested party to email me.

Huh. So, we finally got us a Venture Captain. Silverhair is someone you want to meet as well. He headed our Owl Con efforts the previous three years. Did a great job too, but it stressed him out to an insane degree. Look forward to meeting you in a couple of weeks.

Secondly, I've organized/helped a organize games through stores in my area. Our Venture Captain is about an hour and a half away.Basically, if they build it, they will come. Every store in our area but one (of 7) have people other than the Venture captain coordinating games.

I say this because I get the impression (several times) that some people are just kinda waiting for a designated leader, like a Venture Captain/Lieutenant to organize everything or that they somehow need permission.

Run your semi weekly events in Sacramento. Then apply if you want the position.

Players can support this too. If you have a n00b or two at your table, delay an action, or do something less impactful so they have a chance to get some spotlight time, especially so if you have an uber-opto character and they have a standard one or a pregen.

Welcome to all of our new VCs and VLs. A hearty huzzah to each of you and the communities you support.

Interesting Note, 2 new Texas location were added Venture-Captains Wanted list:

Amarillo, TX
Odessa / Midland, TX

I did not even know there was a significant PFS presence in those locations.

Probably a special PFS rule allowing cows to fill in if there's not enough players to make a table is in order...

I jest, I jest!

Just a suggestion here, listing everyone's e-mail in plain text is an excellent way to increase their spam e-mail.

Listing e-mails in plain text may be a conscious choice on your part but if I have to publicly list e-mails I either put them in images or Cyrillic homoglyphs.

Sajuuk,

Definitely send us an email. While Brett is correct in stating we are looking to focus mostly in the Albany area I do want to see more groups start up all around NY. If there is anything I can do to help let me know.

Thanks,
Evan

Do the cows have to be beef cattle or diary cows to make a table?
