Okay, I'm just now realizing that we have three Wildborne characters. While having half the party being stealthy might be cool, I think having more variety would be fun. In lieu of that, Aeshuura, can I change to Slyborne like you originally assumed I would be?

![]() |

Haha, Jardeth, the Owlbear Rodeo link is for another campaign. I may use Owlbear Rodeo later for this game, just for setting scenes and the like, but not yet. Free account only allows for two Campaigns at a time.
This system is not strictly designed for the grid, so I may try first with theater of the mind. Maybe a basic map for reference, but the distances are not strictly tracked, but we will play it by ear...

Vesper Frostwing |

@Kephalos: Is it acceptable that you talked me into helping you sneak aboard a Persian sailing vessel and take a small keg of Valencian Orange Wine... which that nosy guard ended up taking in order for us to stay out of the clink... Now we need to get it back somehow without getting in more trouble.

Kephalos |

@Thillenethiel: Assuming a druid would likely have experience in the woodlands that Kephalos lived in before he migrated to the city, my question for you is:
What have I discovered about your past that I hold secret from the others?

Thillenethiel |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Okay, the part that I was dreading the most, the questions...
Firstly, Kephalos...
..discovered that Thill's first and only partner died and he left his circle because of it and has never returned.
I'm curious of your thoughts on Thil not knowing Keph, even with this answer?
Mine are these, if you feel a connection fits your character, feel free to dibs it. I will also begin directing them at folks that it feels fitting for.
*What did you confide in me that makes me leap into danger for you every time?
*What animal do I say that you remind me of?
*What affectionate nickname have you given me? (I'm leaning toward Vesper on this one)

So this is an opportunity for us to decide how Kephalos discovered this fact... It is an exercise that will help explain why the group is together, and not just thrust upon each other with no knowledge at all.

”So Treehugger. Do you take on the beast you choose smell or keep your own”?

Vesper Frostwing |

I am sorry, I don't understand the question.
Vesper woke up to sneezing at the musty odor of Enna's Badger and was jokingly asking if you were able to not be so... animal like.

Thillenethiel |

In that case
"Yes and no," the elf responds thoughtfully. "Some of an individual's smell comes from aspects of their form, while most of the rest seems to be inherent to the person. Lastly situations such as excessive alcohol consumption does also seem to transfer between forms." With a smile, he adds, "Did that answer your question sufficiently?"

Thillenethiel |

As for how Keph learned that about Thil...my initial thoughts are that there are potentially two groups looking for Thil. One is his old community "The Circle". It is a community that is dedicated to living in the wilderness and in community with the flora and fauna. The other is a group of hunters, led by a human with a grizzly scar across the left side of his face. Thill gave him that scar.
Thill is not particularly young, so the timing on this is fairly loose.

You bet! Is that one of your questions, or is that for my connection question?
Kephalos' question wrote:What did I recently convince you to do that got us both in trouble?
Hey Vesper, can you get back to me on this, please? I'd like to know if you're claiming my connection question for you, or if I still have it available.

Okay... I thought the point of these questions was to form some way of the PCs knowing another PC. Why are we assuming Kephalos doesn't know Thil?
I was envisioning that Thil has been a druid long enough that he knew Kephalos' faun community before they were chased away.

Sorry about that. I was claiming your question. I guess I don't understand completely what we're supposed to be doing here. I thought the instruction was to claim one of another character's questions. If not I'll post my questions tomorrow.

Kephalos |

Kephalos wrote:I was envisioning that Thil has been a druid long enough that he knew Kephalos' faun community before they were chased away.Sure. Thill has been wandering. Was Keph chased away, or the whole community?
The whole community, probably!
Okay, here's my thinking about fauns. Fauns are peaceful beings that live in the forest. Satyrs are mischievous beings that live in the forest. Fauns and satyrs are very similar physically. In fact, most non-fauns/satyrs have difficulty telling them apart, but fauns and satyrs don't have this issue.
My guy was a faun who lived in a community that was mistaken for satyrs by a mob that was enraged at something a satyr did. The faun colony was scattered, and my guy ended up fleeing to a city where he had to live by his fast reflexes to survive the streets. Eventually, he fell in with the thieves guild, where he learned many stereotypical thief skills, but it goes against his nature, and he's looking for a way to leave.

Thillenethiel |

Sure. How about this...
Many years ago, before the scattering of Keph's community, a wandering elven druid happened across the faun community and stayed for a few days. During that stay, he helped the community and they in turn, let him stay with them. Something was bothering him however, and he moved on. Not long later someone else came by looking for the druid and called him Thil. While with the community, he was content being called Elf. They told the tale of the druid leaving his people when his partner was killed, and they were trying to find him to beg him to come back to his people.
Thoughts..?

The point of this exercise, as I understand it, is to create connections between the characters rather than have them all random strangers coming together and expected to work together...
Does that sound about right, to all your understanding?

Vesper Frostwing |

Feel free to jump in on any or all...
Connections:
* What favor have I asked of you that you’re not sure you can fulfill?
* What weird hobby or strange fascination do we both share?
* What secret about yourself have you entrusted only to me?

Kephalos |

Yes, I think we understood that. The question is if one player is supposed to target their questions at other players, or if a player is supposed to review other player's questions and choose one for their PC.
I don't think it matters which way we do it, but it was creating confusion upthread when we were doing it different ways. Checking the SRD, I found this:
STEP 9
Create Your Connections.
Connections are the relationships between the PCs. To create connections, follow these steps:• Go around the table and have each player describe their characters to one another—at a minimum, their name, pronouns, character description, experiences, and the answers to their background questions.
• Discuss potential connections between the PCs using the questions included in the “Connections” section of your character guide as inspiration.
• Suggest at least one connection between your character and each other player’s PC. Accept any suggested connections you want to explore, reject any you don’t.Note: A player can reject a suggested connection for any reason, and it’s okay if there isn’t an established connection between every pair of PCs—you can always discover and develop those relationships through play.
The second bullet point talks about the questions, but doesn't really clarify. However! The list of questions for each class says "Ask your fellow players one of the following questions for their character to answer, or create your own questions." Honestly, I think it's fine to make the connections however we want.
So, Vesper claimed one of my questions, and I targeted the other two questions at Thillenethiel and Jardeth. Thil answered one question, and Jardeth has the option to answer or reject the other question.
And I still need to create a connection with Enna. Hmm...

I believe that not everyone needs to be connected to everyone else, but at least should be connected to one other PC.

Enna Glade-comber |

Sorry about my absence – these past couple of weeks have been verging dangerously close to "brain is mush" territory, and I am not sure if things are poised to get much better in the foreseeable future.
Regardless! Here are Enna's connection questions. I do not mind handling those on a "first come first served" basis, though if people prefer the targetted approach I can do that too.
• What friendly competition do we have?
• Why do you act differently when we’re alone than when others are around?
• What threat have you asked me to watch for, and why are you worried about it?
And as for everybody else's…
* What favor have I asked of you that you’re not sure you can fulfill?
Perhaps Vesper asked Enna to locate some ridiculously rare spell/alchemical ingredient for him? And of course she hates turning people down, and she has been looking really hard for whatever it is, and probably she'll have tracked it down soon, very soon, any day now…
*What did you confide in me that makes me leap into danger for you every time?
What if she admitted that, despite her unfailingly cheery disposition and exhibiting a seemingly perpetual wanderlust, deep down Enna worries constantly that her absence from her forest home endangers the place in some altogether nebulous manner, and that pretty much every day she has to convince herself not to abandon her current undertakings in the "outside world" and hurry back to the Bircenwood?

Firstly, sounds good. Thill gives encouragement to Enna that new experiences are valuable and allow for preparedness when she returns to Bircenwood.
I propose that Enna and Thill have a friendly competition of making effective, useful, etc.. things out of natural things. I how that makes sense, I feel like my words are not great.

Vesper Frostwing |

Sounds good to me as well. Those "Snow Grapes" are difficult to source in this climate... but you did guarantee that some of the more isolated mountain paths would turn up results...
I can't experiment on the "Icy Eyes" spell without that.

School just started, so I will be a little busy this week. I will try to get us started when you all are happy with your connections.

Quoth Enna at the time: " 'Snow' problem at all!"

I.e., crafting items using natural resources like wood and such? That works for me. (Although I'm not sure how good Enna really is at that, stats-wise. :ᚦ)

Vesper Frostwing |

Vesper Frostwing wrote:"Kephalos... is there anything you wish to share with us"?I'm confused by this. As far as I know, I don't have any information that I haven't already revealed.
Sorry. Vesper was just joking since you know these guys... and they seem determined...
