"Eww. Poor bastard", Vondal laments as he gazes down at the ruined body. "Any treasure?"

Ceirn moves forward to keep an eye further down the hallway so nothing attacks while they search the mimic.

@ceirn: forget to do something?
everyone, give me a perception check, dc 16
Your first action within Undermountain!! And it was a mimic! One of those strange abberations that can change shape into forms of common objects. many of an adventuring party, not only here in undermountain, but elsewhere in the Realms, has had nasty run ins with these creatures.
You breathe easier, knowing you conquered your first encounter within the demse of Halastar's madness.
You watch as vondal pulls the body out of the mimic's mouth. You do a double take- its a female! a female elf! the way her body lays limply upon the stone floor, you know that she is dead.
Gray robes with gold trim cover her body, while well broken in leather boots clad her feet. However, her face and hands are covered in soot.
Vondal begins to pat the elf down as you watch, and you take in the scene before you...

Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard |

The dwarf searches the bloody corpse and begins to toss items on the floor.
"Alright...coin purse...let's see, oh, wand in the inner pocket..book..possibly traveling spellbook....dagger..belt, very bloody...something in these oilskins..and a bag..", Vondal pauses as he open the bag. "..powder..maybe a drug. Won't know anymore until we prestidigitate these clean."

Simon Severant |

Simon's brows furrow, he walks to the edge of the blackened spot to further investigate.
Perception, Know Arcana or Dungeoneering Rizzen?

Simon Severant |

Whenever a DM ends a sentence with "see what happens" it raises the hair on the back of my neck!
Simon inspects the color difference o the floor, it looks like a blast went off, they certainly heard a blast go off but Simon wants to ascertain if that's what really happened.
Knowledge Arcana - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Knowledge Dungeoneering - 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19

Gaelden the Lost |

”At the end of the day, it is better to be the ones looting a corpse than to be the corpse that is looted.” Gaelden rationalized. ”That, and scrounging for loot tends to pay more than most honest jobs.” She added with a wry smile.

RIZZENMAGNUS |

you scratch your head, thinking hard, but nothing leaps out at you that would say that yes, this is magical, however....
You think about this from the perspective of Undermountain, a dungeon thats been designed by an immortal mad mage... it makes sense that something with the hidden magicks of undermountain could have done something...
it wide. very wide. 20 feet wide youd hazard a guess. as for how long the hall is, you cannot tell. it disappears out of sight beyond the limits of your vision.

Astrillith |

The tiefling sighs as her eyes start to flow a feint but sickly green
"Let's see if there is magic about" as she scan the area with Detect Magic

Simon Severant |

"Astrillith, there's some sort of effect here based on the aftermath of magic, but I cannot quite puzzle it out, any ideas?" He watches her cast detect magic as she states it aloud, "That is indeed, a good idea".

Kolaiah |

Kolaiah steps forward, her sharp eyes immediately drawn to the scorch marks on the floor. She kneels carefully, inspecting the blackened lines with an experienced gaze. Her hooves shift slightly on the ground as she runs a hand over the markings, examining the faint outline of the circle at the center.
"A lightning strike, several in fact," she murmurs aloud, her voice low and thoughtful. She shifts her gaze toward the body, brow furrowing. "Something—or someone—was at the heart of this."
She leans back slightly, her arms still crossed as she takes a moment to consider. Her thoughts race, but nothing jumps out at her to indicate any clear cause. She scratches her head, the horns on her forehead glinting slightly in the dim light.
"I’m not sure it’s magical in the way we’re used to," she admits, her eyes narrowing slightly. "But then again, this is Undermountain we’re talking about. A place designed by a mad mage. What makes sense here often doesn’t follow the rules we’re used to."
She stands up, stepping back from the circle, her mind still turning over the possibilities. "Could be a spell, or something else. Either way, we’ve got to keep our wits about us."

RIZZENMAGNUS |

heads up for everyone. tomorrow and friday i will be doing college tours with my daughter. so i will not be able to post.
You cast detect magic, and you cannot believe your eyes!!!
Everything around you is glowing with a hint of pick your color. You expected the items that vondal recovered from the body to glow, but were not expecting the walls, the floor, and the ceiling to glow! Faint traces of magic overlay every stone and rock, every bit of mortar, every tool mark cut into the surface. The entire hall, the tunnel, everywhere you can see, the halls glow with a faint lingering aura of magic.
You look pull your gaze from the wonder of Undermountains structure, and instead focus upon the items.
The ring glows, the oilskins glow, the dagger, the spell book, and the bag of powder glows as well. Most of the items have auras of transmutation. The powder, the dagger. The ring holds only a moderate level of aura, but no specific school. Same with the spell book. The oilskins give off a strong aura of evocation. The wand holds a moderate aura of transmutation.
will post more later tonight

Astrillith |

she blinks a few times and then shakes her head and then looks down at the gathered loot "Besides this whole place glowing slightly, my educated guess is that the ring, those oilskins, the dagger, obviously the spell book and lastly that bag of powder are all magical in some way or another" she looks a bit longer and continues "The ring is of no decernable school, same with the book, the oilskins are potent evocation, so perhaps be careful with those, and that wand, transmutation, so i suggest dont just go pointing it all willy nilly"

Ceirn |

"The lightning probably came with her fighting the mimic. I wonder how many adventurers this thing ate who just came down alone." Ceirn says as he leans against the wall and keeps an eye down the large hall leading further on.

Simon Severant |

Simon shales his head at Ceirn's conjecture, "Based on what I've read of this place, she didn't come down here alone, she probably just got separated from her companions and ended up alone, or worse yet stumbled on a portal elsewhere in the Realms and ended up here, completely unprepared.
Can any of you speak with the dead? Perhaps she can tell us herself what happened".

Gaelden the Lost |

Unable to do as such, Gaelden quietly whispered a prayer for the dead. While she doubted it would help, as all souls were judged, it felt right to at least show a modicum of respect.

Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard |

"Can any of you speak with the dead? Perhaps she can tell us herself what happened".
"Not I", Vondal stated. "I don't think Astrillith can either."

RIZZENMAGNUS |

Pac slithers down off of Astrillith's shoulders and begins to crawl upon the floor, its tongue flickering in and out of its mouth tasting the air.
A stillness fills the air... silence overbearing. A quiet fills your ears, only disturbed by a heavy breath or rustling of fabric upon your body.

Simon Severant |

Simon steps off of the discolored area on the floor, a bit miffed he cannot quite figure out what is happening. He begins searching that area (within 20' both side of the corridor) for any secret doors/passageways.
Perception - 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26

Ceirn |

Ceirn continues to lean against the wall and watch as the other search the area.

Gaelden the Lost |

”And by inconvenient he means tragic.” Gaelden added. ”Especially as the rest of us would likely not be far behind when we inevitably fall into the first trap in our path.” The Paladin said.

Simon Severant |

I was getting that sense...
"Well, no need to linger overlong. Let's keep heading the way we were heading".
I believe that corridor heads west, same formation as before and the same passive bonus applies for Simon. He of course keeps his head on a swivel as well!

Ceirn |

"Lead on." Ceirn says. He stays leaning against the wall as the others file past and then joins in as they head further into the dungeon.

Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard |

Both Vondal and Astrillith have a penchant for rings, so they'll negotiate. The dwarf is fine with the others claiming the rest.

Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard |

Vondal holds up the ring to the grimspawn. "Astrillith? This look magical to you?"

Simon Severant |

"Hold, I think I found something".
He begins to search for traps, "Incidentally. I'll take that spellbook if no one else wishes to claim it".
Perception - Trapfinding - 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29

Gaelden the Lost |

”It would do me no good.” The Paladin said, glad that she was not the only dealing with the traps.

Ceirn |

"We may wish to identify them before divying up the items we find. It's unlikely to be cursed, but being eaten doesn't speak wonders for her equipment." Ceirn says.

Simon Severant |

"We may wish to identify them before divying up the items we find. It's unlikely to be cursed, but being eaten doesn't speak wonders for her equipment." Ceirn says.
Simon tilts his head and shrugs, "That's a fair point" he states as he works over the area looking for traps and trouble.

Kolaiah |

Kolaiah watches as Simon moves through the room, inspecting the area and the gathered items. Her large frame shifts slightly as she looks over the treasure, her gaze resting on the rings and other objects.
"I can't say I can identify these rings, but they may be of interest," she comments, her deep voice steady. She shifts her weight, tapping her hoof lightly against the ground in thought. "Ceirn’s right though, we should make sure we know what we’re working with before dividing anything up."
She eyes the items, noting the unusual situation. "Cursed or not, we need to be cautious, especially given the way this place works." She turns her gaze toward the others, ensuring her tone is clear. "Better to be sure before someone ends up wearing a cursed ring or carrying something far more dangerous than it appears."

Vondal "Silvertongue" Goldbeard |

"Of course. Of course", Vondal agreed. "If we can't do a instant curse detection on the ring, I'll hold on to it in my pocket."
