Kitchen Swarm - Round 2

22 Centipede Swarm (7hp dmg)
21 Ikto (1hp dmg)
18 Iovia (3hp dmg, poisoned, off guard)
9 Za Minyahil
8 M'Baba (poisoned stage 2, off-guard, 1 hp dmg)

The swarm moves back towards where Ikto stepped out, pouring over his feet and legs. Both Ikto and Za Minyahil are exposed to dozens of centipede stings resulting in damage and possible poisoning.

Ikto and ZM take 6hp dmg, but may make a DC20 basic Reflex. Both must also make DC20 Fort save vs poison or start to feel venom effects (5hp dmg and off-guard). They have +1 resistance from the anti-venom still. M'Baba takes 4hp dmg as the poison advances to stage 2 automatically because of crit fail. Iovia needs a DC20 Fort to end the poison or also take 4hp dmg. Those at Stage 2 are off-guard and clumsy 1. All the party is now up.

Za Minyahil gives a weirded-out "ghhhh!" as they're bitten but their plantlike physiology doesn't respond to the venom. They snap their fingers and point at the swarm.

Ouch, crit fail, so I'm definitely at Stage 2.

Feeling woozy, Iovia makes it to the cauldron, and then her hands lift, she chants some words, and lightning lashes over the swarm.

Step, then Electric Arc. It does Zap!: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3 electricity damage with a DC 16 basic Reflex save.

9 Za Minyahil (24/30hp remain, arcane cascade stance)
8 M'Baba (21/26hp remaining, poisoned stage 2, off-guard, clumsy 1)

Za Minyahil unleashes a fiery cantrip but the flurry of creatures on him cause the flames to miss the swarm and they do NOT ignite the oil on the floor around the creatures. They then focus in a strange plant-like way, hoping to deal extra damage in the next round.

Iovia is able to stagger to the cauldron as the effects of the venom hit her hard. She does succeed in casting a spell which does minimal damage against the swarm of centipedes.

Still need actions from M'Baba and Ikto to close the round. A better spell attack roll or aiming for the oil may have ignited it.

Ikto struggles with the venom, but is still able to unleash a fiery spell that hits the swarm burning several of the angry arthropods.

Between Ikto's spell and the oil ignited by M'Baba, a majority of the swarm seems to be roasted and burning. There is still a roiling
number of centipedes however. Thick smoke from the oil burning starts to fill the kitchen.

End of Round 2

The smoke will be an issue, and you may have to consider fire suppression even after the swarm is ended.

9 Za Minyahil (24/30hp remain, arcane cascade stance)
8 M'Baba (21/26hp remaining, poisoned stage 2, off-guard, clumsy 1)

Though diminished the centipede swarm is still able to generate enough stings to wound Za Minyahil and Ikto who remain mired in the midst of it. They are also now surrounded by burning oil and will need to avoid getting burned on top of being stung.

Swarm bites: 1d8 ⇒ 7 DC20 basic Reflex
Fire damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2 DC16 basic reflex

All the party may act. Ikto and ZM will take 7hp unless they make a DC20 Reflex. They will also each suffer 2hp dmg unless they make another DC16 Reflex. In addition, everyone needs DC20 Fort save vs Poison or take more damage. Success moves you down a level, which may mean zero damage. Failure moves you up a level. Those at level 1 are off-guard. Those at level 2 are off-guard and clumsy 1

PS: Ikto is in real danger of going unconscious unless he makes the right saves (and perhaps fails others...)

As she lifts the lid of the cauldron so Abena can escape, the cook's assistant takes a look at the fire near the door and the still crawling swarm of centipedes, and says, "Abena staying right here, missus," and she crouches back into the iron pot.

Rogue 2 | Perc +6 | AC 18 | HP 16 / 26 | conditions: sickened

M'baba continues helping organize and clean the kitchen. He actually enjoys the work. The goal is clear and the way to get there also. He thinks for a while, if the centipedes were drawn to eat the mites, why were they still coming after? There had to be something else. He tries finding something that would achieve this.

Nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

While M'Baba can't exactly recall what might draw centipedes to swarm across the kitchen as they did, his post encounter inspection of the place is extraordinarily thorough and he does not turn up anything there out of the unusual that would draw the mites or the centipedes. The behavior is certainly atypical, but there doesn't appear to be a cause here.

Za Minyahil joins M'baba in helping clean the kitchen, scooping up the decayed wood fragments left behind by their conjured tree and ushering it out to the garden out back. It would help the fruits and vegetables grow. Life springing from death, much like themselves.

Are the rest of you knocking off for the day or going to check out another location? What about the sample centipede you gathered from the kitchen?
