Cannoli encourages her new best friend to act, ”You got this, Firebug. Blast as many as you can and we will chop up the rest.”
With an AoE target friendly environment, Vreeka should get a shot first at this point imo. Cannoli will Delay.

"This place is more like the Worldwound than I expected!" growls Grizzlebin as he launches himself as the nearest fiendish foe!

Noting that these foes can't be tripped or disarmed Victor realises his best option is to aid his allies attacks (As a few of the party's melee combatants have already gone I'll let our GM decide which attack Victor aids. I assume the centipedes are all flat-footed so it's safe to use his whip, if not he will use his cestus which only has a 5 foot range and a +1 attack bonus instead of the whip's +6)...
whip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 (Victor gives a +4 aid another bonus if he successfully aids another)

![]() |

"Fiendish centipedes. They're immune to mind-affecting effects, they are venomous, and they can't be tripped. Also, fiendish creatures have some resistances..."
Vreekka throws another flask of acid on the ground - this time between, but slightly behind two of the centipedes. (affecting red and yellow, see map)
Acid flask: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 (vs AC 5)
6 splash acid damage each
"... but acid should affect them normally."

GM Shadow Dragon |

Daegon fires his crossbow but his aim is a bit off, just barely missing a centipede.
Guardian XI goes berserk on these centipedes (since they aren't creepy spiders) and annihilates two of them!
Grizzlebin calls upon the power of Elysium and also dispatches two centipedes!
@Vreekka: You posted right before I was posting. I'm leaving it up to you if you still want to use the acid flask or save it since there's only 1 centipede remaining and let Cannoli swing away for free.
@Cannoli: If Vreekka decides to save the acid flask, Cannoli can accept Victor's +4 aid bonus on her attack.

![]() |

If Vreeka gives the thumbs up to attack the last one, the catfolk rushes in with a *merrow* and swings away!
CI Morningstar + Aid: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 4 = 19 for CI/P and B: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
If not she just smiles at the slaughter.
Either way Cannoli laughs, ”Oh wow, those were easy.”

![]() |

Of course Cannoli can attack before Vreekka throws the acid!

GM Shadow Dragon |

Cannoli pounces with cat-like quickness and completely squashes the last centipede!
Anyone searching the door or who is opening it? Please arrange your tokens in marching order for how you're entering the next area.

Was Victor able to investigate the door before the centipedes attacked, or did the centipedes jump out before he had a chance?
Oh I remember Victor rolling a 1...it was epic! 8)
Victor's examination of the door reveals it's the safest door he's ever seen.
Completely not trapped.

![]() |

You sure about that Victor?
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

![]() |

Now it's Vreekka' turn to look at her colleagues with a huge smile. "That was awesome, too! I didn't even have a chance to take aim before you guys vaporized them. High five!" The alchemist holds a hand high with an open palm.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Afterwards, she looks at the door. "I don't see anything dangerous." But she decides to step back, anyway.
I moved Vreekka to the back of the group.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Daegon and Guardian XI, doubting Victor's keen eyesight/ocular sensory inputs, check the door for magic or any traps and confirm it's the safest door they've ever seen/analyzed.

Cannolin yawns, steps back and waits for the door to be opened. Then yawns again.
”This saving people thing is tiring, my adrenaline is starting to fade.”
How long since we entered for buff durations?

”This saving people thing is tiring, my adrenaline is starting to fade.”
How long since we entered for buff durations?
Given the searching, clearing demon bile, etc. I'd say 3 minutes.

![]() |

You sure about that Victor?
"Oh yes 100% sure!" Despite probably having inspected a section of wall rather than the door itself.
"I can open it once everyone is ready."
Victor is happy to open the door once the party are ready, he will re-cast shield on himself just before doing that.

GM Shadow Dragon |

So if there's any other buffs before Victor opens the door please post them. Once everyone is ready we'll move forward.

![]() |

While waiting for somebody to open the door, Vreekka drinks her extract of Heightened Awareness.
@GM: Vreekka will NOT drop the spell for better initiative.

Now it's Vreekka' turn to look at her colleagues with a huge smile. "That was awesome, too! I didn't even have a chance to take aim before you guys vaporized them. High five!" The alchemist holds a hand high with an open palm.
Guardian looks at her palm curiously, and eventually tries to press the middle of it like a button.
Ready to go.

Grizzlebin |

Grizzlebin's fur loses its silvery sheen as the holy energy from his home plane gradually dissipates.
All good to go here.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Victor bravely opens the door and the group enters...
Torches in each corner of this large room shed dim flickering light between high columns of barrels and crates. Four large pillars support the ceiling. Purplish-black slime covers the eastern wall and much of the room’s southeast corner, stretching between the walls, pillars, and crates with long filaments. Countless shapes, varying greatly in size, crowd the sludge. Several of these shapes, pinned to the walls and crates or lying on the floor, appear human-sized.
The "human-sized shapes" are in the SE corner of the room indicated with an upside down smiley face.

I assume that white cloud on the map isn't visible to the party as its behind the crates? As Victor is planning on moving south would he be able to see what it is once he starts moving?

![]() |

Cannoli exclaims, ”Great oozly moozly, I think we found the source gang!”

![]() |

"More weird bugs? Huh, these look familiar, too. Give me a second to recall some details..."
Knowledge: Nature, HA: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 2 = 26 (flying thing)
Knowledge: Nature, HA: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 2 = 18 (swarm)
@GM: Resistances, Immunities, and then Weaknesses, please.

GM Shadow Dragon |

@Victor: Correct on all counts.
Vreekka recalls some obscure information about the solo creature; it's called a giant hook fly. It is resistant to cold and fire 5 each, a small resistance to magic SR 7, and is immune to mind-affecting effects.
She also knows the group of flying things is a swarm of much smaller hook flies. They are immune to weapon damage and can drain blood from those it attacks.

![]() |

As Victor may change his plan once he has moved far south enough to spot the cloud (as he would still have some movement left), would it be possible to know what he sees when he moves there? If it's a potential foe it would also be good to know if it is carrying any sort of weapon?

![]() |

"...ah, yes, a giant hook fly and a swarm of tiny hook flies."
She proceeds to share her knowledge about both.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Depends on how far he moves.

![]() |

His plan is to move behind the giant hook fly, if he spots anything from there he will let the rest of the party know.
Victor moves around behind the hook fly and attempts to distract it with his whip...
He will move around behind the hook fly and get ready to aid Grizzlebin's attack (assuming he attacks the giant hook fly). As before the aid will give a +4 to the attack (and potentially also a bonus for flank).
whip aid another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

GM Shadow Dragon |

As Victor moves behind the giant hook fly he notices a human male covered in purple slime; perhaps it's Gellion?
Victor Heal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
And Victor can tell the group not only have they found him but he looks in bad shape. So bad, in fact, Victor isn't sure what's keeping him up.
Gellion takes a slight step back to avoid Victor's whip and chants some weird stuff! Then throws something (a flask?) at Victor to boot.
"'I'm not sick but I'm not well! The demon worms will put you in HELL!"
Attack,Touch: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 = 151d6 ⇒ 4
The item (definitely a flask) explodes on impact, engulfing Victor in fire. Hanging around with Vreekka means everyone knows Victor is the victim of alchemist's fire.
Victor takes 4 points of fire damage and will need to either extinguish the flames or take another 1d6 of fire damage next round. The giant hook fly also takes 1 point of splash damage.
Grizzlebin and Vreekka are UP!

Grizzlebin |

With a mighty roar that reaches all the way to Nirvana, Grizzlebin leaps to tear at the hook fly with a savage bite!
Grizzlebin will do a Charge attack bite vs the hook fly.
Bite (charge, Aid, flanking): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 13
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

GM Shadow Dragon |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Grizzlebin shows he has more hair on his chin as he charges the Abyss-tainted vermin and takes a bite and EWWWW that fly tastes nasty!
Giant hook fly has taken 10 HP of damage.

![]() |

"Let's hope the small ones are not resistant against fire."
Vreekka follows Grizzlebin to get a clear line of sight to the swarm. She throws a bomb...
Bomb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 (vs touch AC)
Fire: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 + 4 (+50% vs. swarms) = 12 fire damage total
Also, 6 splash fire damage for all other creatures that might be in adjacent squares (Reflex DC 15 for half).
Question: Can a swarm be flat-footed, too? It hasn't acted yet. Probably doesn't matter right now because of the high attack roll, but would be good to know for the future...

![]() |

Gellion's rash actions catch even the android off-guard, who is surprised at the attack on Victor.
Remember! Stop! Drop! and Roll!

GM Shadow Dragon |

@Vreekka: Yes they can be but whether it effects their AC depends on the swarm in question. I've seen one swarm whose Dex bonus was +5!
Vreekka's bomb erupts in flame which engulfs the swarm and causes a rain of tiny falling corpses. It also, unfortunately, has started some of the crates and their contents on fire! Maybe someone should put them out???
Meanwhile the giant hook fly looks none too pleased with the damage inflicted by Grizzlebin. Whether due to the pain caused or it senses his connection to a positive plane, it attacks him!
It's a biting fly!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 171d4 ⇒ 4
But the bite isn't the only damage done to Grizzlebin. The fly attaches to him and lances him with its proboscis!
Con Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2
And Grizzlebin looks a bit drained after the experience.
Round 1 - The End (?)
Victor [-4 HP, on fire]
Gellion [He don't look so good.]
Grizzlebin [-4 HP, -2 Con]
Vreekka
Monster Small
Guardian XI
Monster Big [Burnt to a crisp]
Daegon
Cannoli
Jakeric
Round 2 - The End (?)
Victor [-4 HP, on fire]
Correction: Due to the GM mixing up the swarm with the hook fly the giant hook fly did NOT take 1 point of fire damage from the alchemist's fire. As you recall from previous encounters some fiendish creatures have fire resistance.
Guardian XI, Daegon, Cannoli, Jakeric are UP! Victor will be up after them as he leads off the 2nd round.

![]() |

Somebody else will have to deal with the fire. For now, Guardian intends to smash bugs!
[move] 15ft
[standard] attack SMALL
cold iron greatsword, slashing damage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 122d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9

GM Shadow Dragon |

Guardian XI takes a mighty swing but barely misses the giant hook fly.
Daegon shoots a blob of acid and it also barely misses.
@Daegon: It's the -4 penalty for firing into melee that got you. :(
What will the heroes Cannoli, Jakeric, and Victor do?

![]() |

The catfolk's eyes go wide as the enemy finishes speaking. Cannoli gets a big smile, takes a moment and replies, "We are pathfinders here to stop you, because that is what we do. Can't you see your friends are dying as the devil's pact you're buying?"
She glances over at the large fire and then at her teammate who is only a little bit on fire, then shrugs and rains some water down upon the worst of the burning crates.

GM Shadow Dragon |

@Daegon: It does have the grappled condition and I took that into account with its AC. Both you and Guardian XI were *SO* close to hitting. Sorry. :(
Cannoli douses the fire with some water and tries to talk Gellion down; will it work?
Jakeric and Victor are UP!

GM Shadow Dragon |

who has a non lethal way to do damage...maybe save Gellion....
Hopefully one or more of the martials bought a sap.

![]() |

As it may have an impact on what Victor does, is the slime covered human currently armed after throwing the alchemist's fire at Victor? If he is what sort of weapon is he holding?
who has a non lethal way to do damage...maybe save Gellion....
Victor's whip does non-leathal damage and he also has the stabilize cantrip if that is needed. There is also that sap we found, I'm guessing Guardian probably has that as it's a martial weapon.

![]() |

Determined to pull his weight in the group--and keep anyone, even Gellion, from dying--Jakeric limps into the center of the warehouse and mumbles an arcane incantation he once saw in a moldy old book!
Move action and casting daze on Gellion (DC 12 Will save vs enchantment/compulsion/mind-affecting effect to resist). Hopefully we can slow him down until the bugs and fire are dealt with.
