Cannoli peeks around the corner, ”Huh, that’s a big spider. At least we found two of the bodies. Maybe one is our evil idiot. But anyways, time to obliterate the critter. Vic, burn it.”
She casts sun metal on his weapon, 1d4 fire damage on a hit, only lasts one round.

Looking to draw the creatures attacks in order to allow more of his allies into the room Victor tries to punch it with his cestus (fighting defensively) and then moves past the creature to the far side of the room...
cestus attack - frightening defensively: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 1 - 4 = 17
B/P cold iron damage + fire: 1d4 + 1 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (4) = 9
crit confirm - frightening defensively: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 4 = 7

Grizzlebin |

Grizzlebin sprints into the room just as Victor's cestus does devastating damage to the giant spider! Grizzlebin's claws flash as he tries to finish it off!
Grizzlebin will do a move action to get into the room and one claw attack.
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

"W-what's going on up there?" shouts Jakeric from the rear of the formation. He limps down the hallway, ready to defend himself if necessary.
Move action and Total Defense.

I moved you, Daegon.
Vreekka moves up to get a good look at the creature.
Knowledge: Nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
"I think I know what that is..."

GM Shadow Dragon |

I moved you, Daegon.
Vreekka moves up to get a good look at the creature.
"I think I know what that is..."
Vreekka knows the spider is of the 'giant' variety. It can bite and inject poison or 'throw' webbing out to ensnare the unwary. It can see in the dark and can feel the presence of living creatures that touch its web.
No special defenses like DR, SR, etc. Vreekka would also know that vermin of all kind are immune to mind-affecting effects.
Victor's hit causes the spider to recoil! But neither Grizzlebin nor Daegon strike the beast.
It then lashes out at Victor for causing it pain.
Spider Bite!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d6 ⇒ 3
But cannot strike the well-protected foe!
Round 2 - Arachnophobia?
Spider!
Everyone else
The PCs are UP!

Okay... focus this time.
Guardian mutters to himself.
[standard] attack
shadow weapon attack, slashing damage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 162d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
It seems his sensors are not calibrated today.

Cannoli crouches down into a super defensive position, barely any portion of her body exposed to attacks and then slips into the room.
Total Defense, Move. AC is 24, Touch 17 for the AoO.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Daegon's acid strikes web and burns some of it away while Guardian XI's strike connects and slays the spider!
I'm going to assume the group wants to 1) check on the people in the web and 2) search the room. For the first you'll need some Heal checks please; one for each victim.
As you clear the webs away from the two people you realize neither one is the correct age for Gellion. They are both middle aged; one man and one woman.
The group goes to the shiny metal object visible surrounded by the rather sizeable collection of demon bile and find a cold iron arrowhead.
Further searching finds a small chest next to the desk which has some interesting looking items - vials, flasks, and two strange looking bags.
Vreekka examines everything and can determine they are the following:
With her class ability and Spellcraft she'll have no problem identifying them - except one which Victor can assist with casting Guidance to identify.
6 flasks of acid
2 flasks of alchemist's fire
2 tanglefoot bags
3 potions of cure light wounds
1 potion of lesser restoration
1 potion of remove disease

Cannoli dives into the webs immediately after the spider drops, ripping them away to discover… two old people. Ugh.
She sighs and pokes them a few times, ”Well, as the only representative of a divine god… or something like that, I guess it is my duty to do the spiritual healing thingy that I certainly have extensive trained knowledge about.”
Heal + Harrow: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 + 1 = 8
Heal + Harrow: 1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 + 1 = 17
She then coughs and pulls out a wand of cure light wounds, tapping each person with it.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Victor also takes a look at the two people in the webs...
Heal + guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 = 17
Heal + guidance: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 = 16

Jakeric limps into the room. Seeing others attending to those in the webbing and to the alchemical items stashed in the corner, he leans down to look at the giant spider, gently prodding it with his quarterstaff. "I w-wonder where this came from!"
@GM: Does the giant spider have purplish slime characteristics of the creatures in the orchard? Or is probably just a "natural" monster that wandered in?

The spider is definitely infected with demon bile!

GM Shadow Dragon |

Cannoli and Victor (apparently not representing divine power?) examine both of the people freed from the webs and determine that the spider has injected them with venom!
Game mechanics translation: Both people are at 0 HP *AND* 0 Strength. Both of you know you'd have to raise their Strength scores to at least 1 before they regain consciousness.

Cannoli pipes up, ”Well I don’t know what the non-god blessed Victor has to say, but I am pretty sure that lesser restoration vial Vreeka just found will wake one of these two up. Shall we?”

![]() |

Guardian creeps over and peeks over shoulders of those at work on the two unconscious individuals in the webbing.
So, do they need oil changes or...?

GM Shadow Dragon |

Guardian XI retrieves his repair kit and gets ready to give the two people a tuneup! Will anyone else in the party stop him???
Hehehe I love it! :)

Cannoli shrugs, ”Yeah basically. Their blood is bad, which I assume oil is your equivalent. So a full blood change would help. However magic, as usual, has a work around. And also we probably don’t have bunches of blood available to work with.”
She leans in conspiratorially and whispers, ”But IF you did have a bunch of bags of blood somewhere, I wouldn’t judge. Everyone needs a hobby.”

Oil changes are easy! Where is their drain plugs? Are they in the same place on both of them or is it a unique thing? Guardian asks innocently.
Stroking his chin thoughtfully as he considers the mechanics of fleshy organisms.

"Given enough time they should be able to self repair, but it will take a while." Victor explains. "If we want to save the potion I am familiar with various esoteric techniques which could temporarily restore strength to one of them, although the ritual will take a bit of time to perform."
(Victor can use faith healing from the occult skill unlocks. The ritual takes an hour and requires a heal check with a DC equal to the DC of the poison. If successful it will temporarily restore 1 point of strength damage + 1 for every 5 by which the check passed the DC.)

Cannoli pulls herself away from explaining that most biological beings have many many possible oil plugs, depending on how sharp your knife is, and tells Guardian to hold up a second.
She turns to the group, ”I say we use the potion and get one conscious now. It may save enough time that we could use to find the other victims before they expire. And if the one we pick doesn’t know anything, we let our crazy witch doctor have a shot at it.”

![]() |

Jakeric nods at Cannoli. "That m-makes sense--use the p-potions!"
I guess we have to weigh an hour in-game for the (cool!) faith healing vs the instant use but loss of a potion of lesser restoration. I'm good with either option.

![]() |

I am certain I already posted...apparently not. o_O
Heal, guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14
Heal, guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
"My vote goes to using the potion - that's what its creator made it for!"

![]() |

Guardian learned many things that day about drain holes that exist and don't exist.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Sounds like the vote is for using the potion of lesser restoration? If so on which NPC?

![]() |

Using the potion on the man works for me.

GM Shadow Dragon |

Remember he will also need at least 1 HP of healing to regain consciousness. Just let me know who uses what to get resource (spell slot, potion) to do so.
Cannoli administers the potion with Guardian XI lurking over her shoulder to watch the process. After a bit the man stirs and is startled to see all of you!
Weakly he says, "Thank you for saving us!" and then looks at the woman and pleads, "Please can you heal her as well?"

![]() |

I healed both a while back and already marked the resources used.

![]() |

"You're welcome!" replies Jakeric. "We're going to do everything we can to help you two. C-can you t-tell us what happened here?"

GM Shadow Dragon |

I healed both a while back and already marked the resources used.
Missed it in the traffic above - noted!

GM Shadow Dragon |

"You're welcome!" replies Jakeric. "We're going to do everything we can to help you two. C-can you t-tell us what happened here?"
"Of course I owe you that much and more for saving us. If we could speak after we get my wife to Father Ildris Ruvarra at the Temple of Erastil? I can show you the way."
I'm going to assume there aren't any objections so:
The group attracts looks from townspeople but the man shoos them away with thanks of concern but stresses his wife needs to see Father Ruvarra immediately.
Once at the Temple, Father Ruvarra is summoned and gathers all of you into a private room away from prying eyes and ears. Once there Father Ruvarra listens to the healers in your group and begins tending to the woman. The man turns to speak with you.
"I am Altius Vazarro and this is my wife, Belldonna. What happened at our house is that our son, Gellion, has been acting odd - well more odd than usual. He was consumed by some strange alchemical experiments. He recently was ranting about some warehouse and we saw him heading in the direction of our acquaintance Marcuccio Bravoni’s warehouse with one of his friends, Morvinarr. However Morvinarr appeared drunk; that's unusual because, even though he works at the Witch's End Tavern, he doesn't drink. Later we heard a horrible racket in his room and my wife and I went to confront him. Inside we found the spider that attacked us but also a horrible little blood-stained man. That's all I remember before the spider incapacitated us."
Father Ruvarra confirms your party's diagnosis and assures you he can use his magic to cure the Vazarros.

![]() |

Victor listens to the tale with a concerned look on his face. "Would you be able to give us directions to the warehouse?"

![]() |

"I agree, it seems we should pay this warehouse a visit."

![]() |

Cannoli pipes up after a yawn, ”Ok, it is [insert time] on [insert date], when did you go into his room to confront him?”

For a moment is seems like Guardian is staring off into the distance and not really here.
Scratch, bing ǝɹɐʍɯɹᴉɟ ƃuᴉʇɐpdn
He comes to.
The warehouse! Right!

GM Shadow Dragon |

Cannoli pipes up after a yawn, ”Ok, it is [insert time] on [insert date], when did you go into his room to confront him?”
"A couple of days ago. If you have a map of the town I can show you the way to the warehouse."
A knock at the door diverts Father Ruvarra's efforts to heal the couple and he is surprised when it's a member of the town guard.
Looking at the party the guard says, "The Mayor would like to speak with you as soon as possible. I'll escort you there."

![]() |

Victor takes out the party's map (I think I'm correct in remembering that the mayor provided us with one?). "We have this map. Hopefully it's got enough detail to show the location of the warehouse?"
Once Altius has provided the directions to the warehouse Victor packs away the map ready to go with the guard to find the Mayor.

Cannoli sighs, "Ah, she wants to take full credit for us saving people and solving the mystery before we can finish the job, I assume? Alright, whatevs, let's go talk to her."

![]() |

"And we b-better hurry--Morvinaar might have been d-d-drugged!"

![]() |

"Well, Daegon, one can only hope so..."

![]() |

Guardian frowns (or as best he can)
I don't think she's in a position to take credit given the locals who've seen us around lately.
