Well, never say never. There's always trauma bonding and such. :p
Wyssal has never lived among Halflings so, as she's mentioned, to the extent she's had past relationships they have been with humans. But Larry is quite different from the skinny, feline, smooth-talking, pretty-boy Varisians she's used to.

Lawrence Hastings |

LOL! That's definitely not Larry!
Likewise never say never. But right now Larry really likes Wyssal as a friend. He sees her as too small, too pretty, and too sweet for him to even think of her other than that.
And he knows that he's just average for looks. That's part of why he tries to be nice. The other part is that being nice usually just comes natural to him.

Tomodai |

Okay perhaps I read the other players comments incorrectly -- but I thought it was a simple suggestion of Larry barging in on Wyssal in a less than appropriate manner of dress or some such. Creating a moment of awkwardness and/or a bit of comic relief -- that said where (if anywhere) that leads to would most definitely be up to yawl -- but back to the here and now -- again the suggestion from what I read was -- awkward comic relief more than a romantic blossuming ;-)
Note personally I thought the concept of awkward comic relief was a fun idea -- which is far short of anything more serious but perhaps a segue into such a thing maybe later on should things play out that way.

Note to Darius-the goblin captain was a worshipper of Lamashtu, not Urgathoa

GM KoolKobold |

sent a message to see if Tomodai is still with us. I'm trying not to let this campaign fall apart

Darius Deverin |

YES! That's great for players to hear!!

Wyssal Freeling |

Whoops, sorry, I thought I'd posted the post I just posted some time back. I guess either something went wrong or I misremembered.
I might be slow, though I expect things to get better now that school is out. But I'm not going anywhere. I don't think this campaign is going to fall apart.

GM KoolKobold |

What’s the plan if we don’t hear from Tomodai soon? I don’t want to replace him but if he can’t play we need to do so

Lawrence Hastings |

I'd say no reply for a week he should be moved to the back-burner and look for another.
Another thought considering our current active group. How about a uRogue with magic focus? Take Minor Magic with the bookish rogue feat and have points in spellcraft and knowledge-arcana. (and any other knowledge that seems appropriate) Not stuck to a single cantrip like the old rules. Can do the cantrip to attack as a spell-like ability (so no sound to ruin the sneak attack) and switch it out for others as needed. Between that and Wyssal and UMD we should be able to cover arcane magic. ??
We're likely to run into traps, locks, etc where a skill monkey will be needed.

Wyssal Freeling |

If going the UnRogue route rather than a full arcane caster, Eldritch Scoundrel might be a good choice since it gets 6th level casting in line with Magus.
Wyssal has the Studious Librarian archetype, which will eventually let her cast a spell or two from spellbooks and scrolls without consuming them. She'll want to become a collector of those things since it makes her a sort of Swiss army knife for when just the right spell is needed. But an arcane 6 level caster off the wizard list could still be really handy.

GM KoolKobold |

So if no word by next Wednesday we look for someone else? That’s fine with me.
Apologies if posts will be slow, this entire week my mental health and energy have been rock bottom.

Lawrence Hastings |

Sounds good.
I'd forgotten about Eldritch Scoundrel. It's good but really reduces the rogue side of the build. Skills, Talents and sneak attack are kind of the core of a rogue and ES removes about half of those. Gaining the magic is good. But sometimes it's hard to balance out which you want to be, a magical rogue or a sneaky mage. ??
Interesting archetype. There are so many I'd never even read that one.

GM KoolKobold |

imo 4 skill ranks per level feels small for a wizard. I know the wizard’s list of class skills isn’t big but still makes more sense for it to be like, 6 ranks per level.

Wyssal Freeling |

@Larry: It true the archetype isn't as good a rogue as a regular rogue in some ways, and it's not a replacement for a wizard either. I guess it's kind of like an option to be a version of Arcane Trickster without multi-classing. The ES archetype would want a higher than usual INT and could probably get by with less DEX so in practice the skill point gap might not be a big as it seems.
It would probably play more like, a utility and buffer caster who uses ranged touch attack spells to get sneak attacks under the cover of invisibility or darkness or fog-type spells and so forth. I've never seen one played though.
@GMKK: I haven't played wizard a lot, just some, but I've never been bothered by the 2 skill points per level. Most wizard class skills are INT skills and wizard is quite SAD in favor of INT. If we're talking knowledge checks (and wizard is really an encyclopedia rather than a skill monkey) a wizard is getting at least 5/level with a 17 INT, and most wizards will be at 6/level because they'll have an 18 INT at first level. A human wizard will be at 7/level at first level. Keeping in mind that all ability score increases will probably go to INT, and skill points per level just keeps climbing. There will also the to +3 to +4 added for all the INT based skills. That's pretty good, very competitive within wizard's skills domain to any other class except Investigator, who blows everything else away.
It's Sorcerers and Clerics that get screwed by 2/level skill points.

Wyssal Freeling |

It's been a while since character creation so to remind everyone, or tell you the first time if I failed to mention it to other players before, Wyssal will be dipping Lore Oracle for 1 level at either 2nd or 3rd level, probably 3rd. She'll be taking the Lore Keeper revelation, which will switch her knowledge skills from INT to CHA based. CHA for Knowledge plus Bardic Knowledge will make her very good, at least as good as a wizard if not better, at knowledge checks. A skill monkey or arcane caster won't need to cover them.

Tomodai |

Okay folks finally got the time and a place I could post. First I moved and now my internet provider is only giving me partial access to internet and most of what I can get to is not something I want to get to and most of what I want or need to get to I cannot get to. They fixed it for about 1.5 weeks but then it went back to being an issue. They have now decided it is my hardware and will do nothing more until I can prove it is not my hardware. Highly annoying since nothing has changed with my machine but there router (and its replacement) are new elements.
This means I have limited access to the internet (gmail, youtube) and when I would usually post is when I cannot get onto Paizo (due to the limited access not allowing me to get to this site). I have taken part of a day to come to the library to put this information out.
As a player I would be sporadic at best but would still be willing to be a player just not sure how often I could post until I get my home machine fully operational.

Lawrence Hastings |

Are you sure they are blocking your access? I haven't seen this in a couple of decades, but maybe they are using a bad DNS server.
Try a google search for "configure a public dns server" and try configuring that yourself. It will use the public servers rather than your ISP's servers. It worked for me back in the days.... I still had to disconnect my home network before calling their helpdesk to explain what was wrong with their network! But usually I only had to start explaining the tech in words that their tier 1 people couldn't understand. Then I got to their people that knew what was wrong and could tell me when it would be fixed.

GM KoolKobold |

Sorry to hear your Internet is giving you trouble, Tomodai. While we would love to still have you, if you do have to leave because your internet is spotty and you don't know how much you can post, that's fine. Whatever you choose.

GM KoolKobold |

Sorry for the silence. I’m…not sure if keeping the game going is good or not. I don’t want to but I also know waiting for Tomodai might be a bit much, and obviously Tomodai still wants to play but we don’t know when he’ll be back.

Darius Deverin |

Darius is on the fence. Sure, he'd like the campaign to continue; but if it ended, this campaign would join the dozens of other failed campaigns Darius's Player has experienced.
What do the others say?!!

Lawrence Hastings |

I'd like to continue.
Recruit someone new. If Tomodai's situation improves he can rejoin?
If we can't recruit an arcane caster I could drop Larry and create an Eldritch Scoundrel just for the fun of trying it.... I would lose the fun of the banter between Larry and Wyssal. :-(

Wyssal Freeling |

Yeah, I agree. We can bring in a new person and if Tomodai is able to come back we're still only at 6 in the party. A party of 6 is almost the standard for party size in PbP games here.

GM KoolKobold |

Alright everyone let's double check-which do we need to prioritize more, a rogue or an arcane caster?

Darius Deverin |

An arcane caster would bring in cool spells.

Wyssal Freeling |

I might have a tidy solution. I'd vote for an arcane caster. Wyssal can make a tiny alteration to handle traps and such. I was planning on dipping a level of Lore Oracle at either 2nd or 3rd already. If I add the Seeker archetype to that, it trades all the Oracle skills for the mystery for Disable Device as a class skill and the ability to disable magical traps.
The Lore mystery gives all knowledge skills in class. Wyssal is a Bard so that's redundant anyway. There's an alt version of trapfinding included as well, but since Wyssal will only have one level, that will never go past the initial +1.
Of course Wyssal won't be as good as a dedicated Rogue, but she does have a good Dex, and enough skill points to consistently improve Disable Device. Given the need is occasional, I'd think decent at it in return for an arcane caster added is a fine deal.

GM KoolKobold |

Been talking to someone, since it looks like Tomodai will be back, I’ll bot him if that’s okay. Meanwhile the new team member will be the rogue. If that’s okay with everyone.
